  • Lost contacts after reinstalling - where are they stored on a mac

My mac book pro crashed on me, so I reinstalled OS 10.5.8. I had all my files backed on an external harddrive, but now my palm desktop(palm 505 - software version 4.2.1) is empty, and my palm handheld is also empty. Where can I find all my contacts on my mac? hope someone can please help me!!!
    thanks in advance!!

thanks for that info - I didn't know that about finding the library in 10.8 (obviously) -- and I was able to find the library and navigate my way to my catalog -- it looks like it's fine - in fact I was able to run the catalog manage, repair, optimize etc and it says everything is fine - however when I restart PSE and the organizer, my photos are still all missing from the albums.
too late now, but tomorrow, I'll try to see if I can find that catalog in yesterday's time machine back up -- do you know if that's possible?
I'm not really sure what happened - because when I started out today, things seemed to be working fine - it wasn't until I tried to add a new album that I discovered the issue with the missing photos.
truthfully I don't care about the albums - they would be easy to reconstruct -- but I'd like to be able to delete the names of them and start again - but I can't seem to find info on how to do that.  the book I have doesn't give that basic kind of info - more info on using the tools to be creative.
thanks so much for your help - you're very knowledgeable about PSE!!! and Mountain Lion which I've only been using for a few months.
    cheers, Lynne

  • Where are the updates located for Mac App Store app?

    Hi,
where are the updates located for Mac App Store app? I don't think /Library/Updates is the only location. Because I'm now having 10+ of Apps reporting updates is needed, but only 1MB+ files is located in /Library/Updates.
    Please help!

If so just use the search bar in the top right to search for the update you are looking for.

  • Where are passwords stored on my hard drive, can I access them, alter them

Where are passwords stored on my hard drive/ folder, can I access them and alter them. Can I add passwords to that file/ folder.

Using the Saved Password Editor may be overkill for most users. The quickest way to manipulate saved passwords in Firefox is on the menu bar go to:
Tools -> Options -> Security -> Saved Passwords -> Show Passwords

I have reinstalled IE 5.5 but the error remains.

Before you reinstall your JRE/JVM have you tried it in other browsers such as Mozilla, Netscape Navigator, Opera, or others? IExp has taken a giant leap BACKWARDS (IMO) in that it doesn't ship the latest JVM, so it's probably just a browser issue. If its your own applet that you are trying to load, if it works in the appletviewer then there's nothing wrong with your JVM.

  • Where are rooms inside Lync for Mac?

Where are rooms inside Lync for Mac? (14.0.10)
We do have Lync 2013 server and configured the persistent chats / rooms. People using the Windows version are able to use it but we are not able to see any support for rooms in mac version.

    Hi uıɹos,
Anthony is right that the Persistent Chat feature isn't available at this time in the Mac client.
But in the first half of 2015 Microsoft will release a public beta for the next version of Office for Mac, and in the second half of 2015 Microsoft will make the final release available. And
I believe that it will be supported this time. (http://blogs.office.com/2014/10/31/new-outlook-mac-available-office-365-customers/ )

  • Mac question: where are extensions stored

I'm shortly going to be upgrading to a new Intel iMac from a
G5 desktop Mac. I need to know where all the extensions are stored
on the Mac, so I can make sure I don't lose them! (Still using
    Dreamweaver MX2004)
    Can anyone let me know?
    thanks

    susie,
The original .mxp file can be anywhere! You should search all
    of your
    folders for .mxp files.
If you disable all of your extensions, DW will generate
    alternate .mxp
files from the .mxi, but these may differ from the original.

  • WHERE ARE TEMPLATES STORED ON MAC

Where are Captivate templates stored on Macs?  I have an ongoing issue that still isn't resolved i.e. I can't access captivate after installing it and I'm wondering if this may be connected.  I cannot find any templates on my Mac for captivate, when I try and open a new project 'From Template' it simply opens the my documents folder and even though I've looked for a '.cptl' I cannot find any.
Am I being simple or should there be some file in this format somewhere on my hard drive if Captivate has installed properly
Any help on this and of course my original posting would be greatly appreciated
    Kind regards
    Martyn

I have not found any .cptl files installed on my Mac. I did create one that I had someone helping me use. Unfortunately, she keep saving it as a template and in doing such, create a bigger mess down the road.
The issues I had with using them created such 'challenges' i have steered away from using them. The potential for goodness was there, but it made more work for me in the long run.
The template made 'ghost' slides in our projects and were a pain to find to remove. I basically looked for images or video in the library that had duplicates and then it deleted it from the library. In doing such, it showed the template slide. I was then able to hit the delete key to remove it. And then 50 or so others. Doing this, it dropped the Captivate file down to a third of the size since I was able to finally get rid of all the hidden stuff.

  • Where are actions stored locally for Photoshop CC on a Mac (OS 10.9)?

I've looked everywhere (on my start-up hard drive) and can't locate where Photoshop CC keeps actions locally. Even if I'm syncing to Adobe Cloud service, I assume there has to be a local version somewhere.

Well, funny you should mention that...
What got me started on this time-suck of a quest is looking into this folder:
    ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Adobe Photoshop CC/Presets/Actions
and discovering there were no actions to be found there! So, in my WTF moment, I went, where are my actions? Why is the Actions folder in my home library empty? That's not cool. (More importantly, will the little darlings survive the transition to CC 2014?) I could see them in the Actions palette, so, whew, they're still in tact, but that's what got me asking, Where are they? (Note that I use the tilde for "/User/[user name]" as a shortcut.)
The other thing that threw me was this:
The default actions with their .atn extension are living out in the open for all to see in
    /Applications/Adobe Photoshop CC/Presets/Actions
So, not only did it seem like actions were still alive and well living as separate, .atn files, but that my own actions were intentionally being hidden for some reason.
So, R_Kelly, I'll be curious, once I do the big install of CC 2014, if actions end up where you said to look because that would actually be a big change.
It does seem like they are living in
    ~/Library/Preferences/Adobe Photoshop CC Settings/Actions palette.psp
because I made up some actions, synced up to the ol' cloud in the sky, and they came down to my other computer, so apparently that's how it works.

  • Broken Disc - where are iMovie files

My original iLife DVD is toast and iMovie is not working properly. I have a back up of my HD before the problem started. Where are all the important files I need to move back to my HD to get iMovie working again?

No... as I mentioned the iMovie Events folder contains two very small files (8 kb and 4 kb) - far too small to be the actual Event... if I remember correctly, the Mac also contains a number of "invisible" files - perhaps the actual event is stored as one of those..... (I'm trying to see if time machine backed up an event which seems to have gone missing, but have no idea how to find it)

  • Where are versions stored in Bridge\Adobe Drive?

We are currently working with CQ5 \ Bridge 5 \ Drive 3. Lets say I have video file inside CQ and I want to change the version with Bridge. The new video file is a lot smaller, say 30megs less. I copy the new old file over using Bridge and add it as a version. I can now revert back to the old version if I want to or just use the new one. The question is where is the larger file stored? I don't see it in the DAM any more, only see the new smaller file however. If I check the actual file inside the var\dam in CQ I can see variations but I don't know if these are the actual files.
What I'm getting at is that if I need to replace say 400 larger video files with smaller ones are the large ones still stored some place on the CQ server and would I manual have to delete them? I just need to know where those extra files are stored.
    Thanks!

Thanks for the help. I was unable to find the "show package content" option inside the windows version of Bridge. For whatever reason it only seems to be a Mac option.
    Omke Oudeman wrote:
The only file there is the newer version. So, that all comes back to my original quesiton what happens to the original file? Where is it stored. Is it cached some place on the CQ server and I need to delete the original from the versions?
I'm afraid I don't have an answer for that. Don't know how CQ works but in general creating a new and smaller version should leave the original untouched.
But I come to think of it as same behavior as in Lightroom, Aperture or iPhoto that uses a library structure.
Don't know if you are on Mac or Windows. But on a Mac you can select this library file that itself shows only the icon (mostly in default picture or movie folder). But if used with large amount of files it can grow to quit a size. Using right mouse click gives the option to show package content and that reveals several folders with amongst them an original or master folder that contains the originals. (if you find them don't move them to other locations but copy, otherwise you can loose the functionality in CQ
Hope this helps you on the right track.

  • Where are passwords stored for Safari websites

I thought the place was the Keychain, but where else is are passwords stored?
I have jsut done a complete reset of the keychain from keychain Access, and the passwords page shows empty
Yet when I go to certain websites, I still get logged in automatically.
So where are these other passwords stored?

    HI,
The usernames and passwords are stored in the Keychain Access application but only if you have the Safari Preferences set up to do so.
With Safari open, from the Menu Bar, click Safari / Preferences and select the AutoFill tab.
Make sure Usernames and Passwords is selected.
    From the Finder Help Viewer...
When you set up a user account in Mac OS X using the Accounts preferences pane, a keychain with the same password is automatically created the first time you log in to the computer. This keychain is the default keychain. When you create passwords for servers or applications, the passwords are added to this keychain.
You may want to create an additional keychain for personal use that isn’t automatically unlocked when you log in to your user account. For example, you can create a “top secret” keychain to store notes, financial information, and any other items you want to store securely.
    To create a keychain:
Open Keychain Access, located in the Utilites folder in the Applications folder.
    Open Keychain Access
    Choose File > New Keychain.
Type a name for the keychain, and then click Create.
Type a password for the keychain, and then type it again in the Verify field.
For help choosing a good password, click the key button to the right of the Password field.

  • Where are iBooks stored on the new Mavericks OS?

I was trying to find where Apple is storing the iBooks on Mavericks.  I knew where it was before Mavericks.  I download a lot of books and pdfs from the Internet that I manually add to iBooks and I would like to know where they are being stored.  I am trying to get my wife's mac with the same books and mine.  Right now it is missing a few.  It would be easier to just find where they are stored and copy them than for me to go to all ot these websites and redownload everything.

Creating an OS X-style "alias" is not enough. I haven't tried the following solution (and I won't do it myself as my HDD is big enough, sorry), but the correct way to do this kind of jobs on OS X is to create a "symlink", or "symbolic link", which is a UNIX-style alias (read more about it on Wikipedia if you'd like to). To put it short, you type/paste the following commands into Terminal.app, one at a time (you will be making changes to your system files and you will be prompted for your admin password, which is pretty dangerous if you don't understand the mechanisms—remember to quit iBooks.app first, make backups, and be prepared for any damages):
    sudo mv "~/Library/Containers/com.apple.BKAgentService/Data/Documents/iBooks" "/Volumes/EXTERNAL DRIVE/PATH TO IBOOKS FOLDER";
    sudo ln -s "/Volumes/EXTERNAL DRIVE/PATH TO IBOOKS" "~/Library/Containers/com.apple.BKAgentService/Data/Documents/iBooks";
You should change "EXTERNAL DRIVE" to the name of your drive, and replace "PATH TO IBOOKS" with the path you want to store iBooks documents on your external drive. For instance, replacing "PATH TO IBOOKS" with "iBooks" simply creates a directory named "iBooks" under the root directory of your external drive with the iBooks data. Note that after doing this you won't be able to properly use iBooks without connecting the external drive.
This might or might not work, but I hope this helps.
(If this doesn't work, recover to the original state by quitting iBooks.app first, and type/paste the following into Terminal (you might again be prompted for your admin password):
    sudo rm -rf "~/Library/Containers/com.apple.BKAgentService/Data/Documents/iBooks";
    sudo mv "/Volumes/EXTERNAL DRIVE/PATH TO IBOOKS FOLDER" "~/Library/Containers/com.apple.BKAgentService/Data/Documents/iBooks";
This will most likely recover your original working state of iBooks.)
