Where are Mail folders in [User]/Library?

I get (but hate) Apple's striving for minimalism, but am I correct that it's now impossible to access Mail folders in the  [User]/Library?
There must be a solution.

The On My Mac mailboxes are stored at "~/Library/Mail/V2/Mailboxes/". The Library folder is hidden since OS X Lion, so use the Finder's "Go To Folder" menu in the "Go" menu and enter that address.

  • Where are my photos? iPhoto library hides them AND renames the folders

I recently upgraded to Lion OS and can no longer see my photos and videos in Finder. A search shows that they are all in a dir that is actually an iPhoto library. Bizarrely it has been given the name of the first lot of photos that I imported in to iPhoto from a flash drive - so all of my photos are "packaged" inside a file called "mom's photos"!!!. In Finder it appears as a data item - NOT as a folder - the contents of which can be seen by clicking "Show Package Contents". Inside this "package" is the directory tree that Get Info shows is the path for a photo file. The photos have been arbitrarily put in to directories called "Modified" and Originals within which they have been stored in folders with year names ("2003", "2006", etc) that have no connection to the date the photos were created or their file names.
Is this considered to be progress by Apple?  How can I work with my files independently of iPhoto or iMovie (raw video being also inside the iPhoto library "package")? How can I reverse the renaming of the folders? Can I rename the iPhoto library to a default name - such as "iPhoto Library" for example!
Any pointers on how to deal with this new regime for handling photos and video will be welcome

    It's really very simple.
If you want to manage files, use a file browser.
If you want to manage photos, use a Photo manager like iPhoto.
No version of iPhoto has supported the user accessing the files via the Finder. None at all. In versions 1 to iPhoto 6 it was possible to view the contents of the library, but accessing was not supported. Making changes within the iPhoto Library was not supported. Renaming files and folders corrupted the Library.
So, with iPhoto 7 (released in the autumn of 2007) the library was moved into a package to protect it from Users making these changes.
How the files are stored simply doesn't matter. Why? Because everything you need to do can - and should - be done via the iPhoto application. It's a database, after all, and like any db requires that you manipulate the data via the app itself, not a back door.
iPhoto is your go-to app for anything you need to do with your Photos. You simply never access them via the Finder.
So, you can edit either with iPhoto - or in any other app: You can set Photoshop (or any image editor) as an external editor in iPhoto. (Preferences -> General -> Edit Photo: Choose from the Drop Down Menu.) This way, when you double click a pic to edit in iPhoto it will open automatically in Photoshop or your Image Editor, and when you save it it's sent back to iPhoto automatically. This is the only way that edits made in another application will be displayed in iPhoto.
Or, you want to access your photos for any reason at all:
There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:   You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Command-Click for selecting multiple pics.
(Note the above illustration is not a Finder Window. It's the dialogue you get when you go File -> Open)
You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
There's a similar option in Outlook and many, many other apps.  If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
If you want to access the files with iPhoto not running:
For users of 10.6 and later:  You can download a free Services component from MacOSXAutomation  which will give you access to the iPhoto Library from your Services Menu.
Using the Services Preference Pane you can even create a keyboard shortcut for it.
For Users of 10.4 and 10.5 Create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser
    Other options include:
Drag and Drop: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
File -> Export: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
Show File:  a. On iPhoto 09 and earlier:  Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.    3.b.
b: On iPhoto 11 and later: Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Reveal in Finder -> Original. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
All of the above are a: faster and b: safer than rooting around in the old library folders.
I know it's a change but you'll get used to it. And, of course, if you don't, you can always use another app.

  • Where are Mail downloads kept?

Did a fresh install on a new Pro and not carry any problems forward. I can't seem to locate the "Mail Downloads" folder on ML, as I moved from 10.6.X, and it was in the user library.
I am trying to get back all the Mail attachements pre move that are no loger available. Where do I find the dowloads for mail in 6.2?
    thanks for any help

The Mail Downloads folder is on ~/Library, being ~ your user folder.
OS X Lion and Mountain Lion have hidden the Library folder of your user folder because of security reasons, so to access to Mail Downloads, open Finder, select Go menu > Go to Folder, and type ~/Library/Mail Downloads.
If you want to show the Library folder on Finder, open Terminal and type:
    chflags nohidden ~/Library

  • Where are my folders and collections?

I had many photos and collections created in lightroom - now I only get some.  They are in my storage - but for some reason they do not show up in the library - where are they and what causes this?

Thanks, I stumbled onto the solution by opening an earlier catalog I had saved (or backed up).  Not sure how I ever "opened" the erroneous catalog - or how I was able to open the correct one - but I did.

  • Where are my folders from snow leopard mail now that I've converted to lion?

I had an extensive folder structure in mail before the upgrade.  I can't find it now.  What should I do?  Please help.

    Straus,
There is a small button with SHOW written next to it in the upper left corner of the Mail app.  Right below the icon bar.  Voila, it will re-appear.
I went through the same panic!

  • NEW EMAIL - Where are my folders?

I clicked on the new email option to see what it looked like and now I do not see any of my folders including the folder of important emails from my previous provider Comcast moved to Verizon via TrueSwitch.  Where is my folder of these Comcast messages?

    NewFIOSAug2010 wrote:
The far left shows Email with an icon, inbox, sent, drafts, spam detector and trash.. Then the next area is Message Center Storage. The only arrows I see are on the right side of this area for collapsing this menu area. So I do not see any arrows around the email icon area.
So I do not see anything about my folders.
I also do not see anything about my personal homepage.
So you are saying it does not look something like this (obviously I have a few folders defined)?
You don't have the "Create/Manage Folders link either? Strange.....unfortunately I have no clue what might be wrong, wish I did.....
Edit: By chance do you happen to have the option to go back to the "Classic" webmail? I still do, in the upper right hahd corner:
If you do, you might try that to see if you can get back and find the folders. But even if it works, eventually you will be forced to migrate to the new webmail (we all will), and I don't know what will happen then.

  • Where are mail boxes

Where do I find mail boxes and messages. I am trying to transfer data from an old iMac G4 to a new iMac. I've had lots of trouble and posted several messages here and in other forums. I think the only thing left to do is find my mail from the old Mac and put it on the new Mac. I tried importing from a folder called "mail" and got many of my old messages but in a confused state. There's white folders and blue folders resembling but not identical to my folder configuration in Mail. (the folders came through in the transfer but not the messages.)
    Geoff

Sorry about being so vague. I'm dealing with 2 computers, not 2 sets of files within one computer.
Mac 1 is a iMac G4 that has been replaced by Mac 2, a recently purchase iMac.
When I first tried transferring data I attempted to do it from a TimeMachine backup on an external hard disk. I did not have a fire wire cable to connect the two macs and the sales person told me to use time machine from the external disk. That hard disk was partitioned with one partition for TimeMachine and one that I used for CCC cloning. I followed the migration assistant but the new Mac did not see the Time Machine partition, only the cloned partition. It saw it as another computer. I transferred data from that. All went well, until I realized I had not updated the clone; the clone was about 3 weeks old; I didn't have recent data.
Then I learned I also transferred some problems into the new Mac which I'll not reiterate here. Trying to make a long story short, I've posted several times on these forums and spent several hours on the phone with Mac support and updated/re-transferred data several times.
At some point I lost a week's worth of recent email. Now I have 2 weeks worth of recent email on the new Mac, all the folders/mailboxes I had in the old Mac but they are empty. All the old (pre 3 weeks ago) email is still in the old Mac.
I've tried importing the mail folder from the clone. Now I have a pale (as compared to the other baby blue folders) folder in my mailbox sidebar labeled "Import" that has a confusing mess of my old mail. I think all the old mail is there but I don't know how to get it into the "proper" folders. ie the folders it was in on the old Mac.
The end result is I have been using both computers. Too look up email from the past I use the old computer.
I guess I should have paid the $100 to have the Mac sales people transfer the data.

  • Where are Mail e-mails, Safari bookmarks located?

My MacBook Pro was having problems (constant restarting, no desktop) yesterday so I ran Disk Utility from the Leopard Install disk. A few permissions and disk errors were repaired. I ran the utility again twice and both times no errors. But I still kept getting the constant restarts, so I did and Archive and Install. No problems this time, computer rebooted fine. However, when I open Mail all my previous e-mails are not in the account, nor are my Safari bookmarks.
This did not happen when I upgraded my four other Macs to Leopard. Is there a location where they might be found, and how do I do this?
    TIA,
    John

Your mail is in Library/Mail. If you go in there and delete the Envelope Index file (while Mail is not running) the next time you launch it it will offer to re-import your mail.
Your Safari bookmarks are in Library/Safari/Bookmarks.plist

  • Where are my folders?

Long time LR user and pro photographer, so rather confused about this aa I should know what is happening.
Just updated from 3 from 5 (skipped 4).
Imported new cards (2 separate jobs) into LR, as per normal. Even edited one of the shoots. The files are still (thank god) still on my HD(s), where they should be, but LR is not showing them. One job is in a parent folder created before I upgraded to 5 (I use a similar "bucket" structure to Peter Krogh's workflow), the other in a new parent folder created since upgrading.
Wondering if I've missed some setting in Prefernces or......??
Anyone else had this problem, thoughts where I'm missing something.
    Thanks!!

Ugg, bummer. I use the XMP sidecar, so if I have to re-import I get my changes back in.
Try a clean catalog and see if you run in to the same issue. Could be a LR3 > LR5 deal. I've seen a few other folks experiencing various problems skipping 4. If nothing else, it might tell if it's your system or just the catalog.
    Good luck.

  • Where are mail attachments stored?

On my Macbook Pro all attachments are available to be opened when I'm not connected to the internet. I assumed this was true with ipad but could not open attachments on plane yesterday. So, I assume in ipad attachments are stored on server (I use mobile me) and must be opened/downloaded individually then saved in other apps like Goodreader or Pages. If this is true, is there any way to automatically store attachments like a mac does in mail downloads?

Mail attachments are stored on the server. You need to tap on the attachment to down load them to the iPad. The same holds true for a desktop or laptop computer.
If your need to view an attachment where you don't have an Internet connection it is best to open the attachment before hand when you an internet connection.

  • Where are Mail attachments (IMAP)

can i access mail attachments in "Local Mail" or IMAP based email?
i have a series of 3-ring binders with resumes and portfolios in them and i am trying to move this "database" to a digital database. since i am not sure that i have sorted all the EMAILS from which these resumes and portfolios came, i don't want to have to find every email sent with these printed documents and it would be much easier to scroll through the attachments in coverflow and grab the ones i need digitally while trashing the corresponding paper version...
    ideas?
    thanks.

  • HT4796 I can't see where are the folders that I had in my old PC on my new Mac after the migration. Even when I see it on my Mac using the search box, it doesn't appear with the right order of my old PC. I need some help, please.

I used the Migration utilitie from Lion and eventhough I know the folders are there (with a quick search I find images etc) the proper order is not displayed.

  • Where are the FOLDERS? Creative MediaSou

I bought muvo v200 and get Creative MediaSource Organizer but...there is always but...
First----I read all post regarding to this problem but now one have describe problem in detail so I?ll try to do that.
I am downloading all my music with Azureus and all my songs came to my disk as specified folders so I want to be able to put that folders into v200 from "my playlist" option in Creative MediaSource Organizer.
I want to add downloaded songs from that folder into playlist(ok that can do) , edit them (this too) and then put them on my v200 as folders, NOT in alphabetical order WITHOUT folders. I have a huge amount of songs begin with A A2 B2 -sides and position on vinyl. So when I move them to my v200 it all mixed up. I don?t want to use drag and drop option to achieve this because Azureus make at beginning of downloading complete folder and files, even though these files are not completed, so I want to move complete folders to my playlist and then move them AS FOLDERS to v200 ( I don?t want to make a double copy on my hard for downloaded folders and then do transferring-it will waist my Gigabytes ). So main problem is FOLDERS FROM PLAYLIST TO v200. If this is impossible I don?t understand what is worth having a folder function on v200 if Creative MediaSource Organizer can't make them when transferring.
    AND
Is there sync function v200 with PLAYLIST. I delete some songs from player so when I connect it back I want that song delete from my playlist too ( it will be very hard if I have to do it manually).
I hope that these function with folder and synchronization are possible because it'sll be huge mistake for big company as CREATIVE not to make them. (maybe upgrade soon please)
    or some other program !!!!!!!

I'm 99% sure you can't do it. Perhaps someone else can confirm.
I remember a thread about using MediaSource to copy tracks to the MuVo with folders, but I can't find it unfortunately.Message Edited by SSR on 05-06-2005 05:59 AM

  • IChat v4 - where are the example and user defined back drops?

When I go to iChat preferences, audio/video, then select show video effects, there are only two pages (one including sepia, etc. and the other including bulge, etc.). There is no Eiffel Tower image or a page with user defined choices.
    Am I missing something?

You will only get two pages if your Mac falls below Apple's system requirements for backdrop. (Intel Core 2 Duo and a camera with exposure and focus lock.) As it is, you're only getting the first two pages of effects because you have a dual processor Mac.
