Where are my albums?

Upgraded to this new mac software and had problems with iPhoto. Didn't support my printer so had to buy a new one (not impressed). Husband had trouble getting iPhoto to work/print and had to reload library but now this new iPhoto (which i don't like as it is just like Picasa) has not retained my albums.
My last 6 years of photos in albums by year and month are now lumped together in one awful mess.
How can I get my albums back without having to spend hours doing it manually?
Can anyone help and if you can I need  i need iPhoto for dummies.
thanks

First off you need to provide clear details
What version of iPhoto? Of the OS?
And note that printer support is not part of iPhoto - it is at the OS level and as OS updates are made printer suppliers may have to update their drivers - the same as on any computer - a New OS may require updates to other software too
a really basic question - since you do not like iPhoto why are you using it? It is not required - you are welcome to use Picasa or any other photo management program you want
As to albums - the most common reason that albums are "missing" is that they are hidden - hover your curser over the work albums and a light grey shoe or hide will appear to the right of the work albums - click on show and see if that resolved things
and you need to explain this statement since it does not explain anything
My last 6 years of photos in albums by year and month are now lumped together in one awful mess.
we can not see you or your computer so you actually have to provide details of us to be able to help

  • Where are my albums stored, and is there a list that I can choose from?

I have my first album completed
and it is on the organization area.
I now know how to start another album,
but where does my first album go and
how do I get it there? Will there be a list of my
    albums??

    Hi again Mimi
I hope things are becoming a bit clearer. There is always a bit of a learning curve with any new software but keep persevering.
    Try This:
Create a new album by clicking the plus sign in the album panel and give it a name.
On the top tool bar select File>>Get Photos & video>>From Files & Folders
Then browse on your computer for the folder you want and choose the photos to bring into Organizer.
The photos will appear in a separate import window in Organizer.
Press Ctr+A to select all of them and now drag the new album icon from the left panel on to one of the photo thumbnails.
All the selected photos you imported into Organizer will then be put into the new album and you will see the album icon appear on all of those thumbnails.
Organizer will always show all of the photos you bring in; so if you put 50 photos in Album #1 and 50 photos in album #2 Organizer will show 100 thumbnails when you click the “Show All” button or open up elements again. But by clicking on any album button on the right panel it will display only the photos you put in each separate album.
If you wish to see a list of where your photos are, change the display criteria in Organizer from thumbnail view, to folder view and it will show those folders you have linked to Organizer.
Once you have created albums you can make web galleries using the available Flash templates and share them using the free bandwidth on Photshop.com, available to users of Elements 8 (& 7 I think).
Click on the link for a tutorial.

  • Convert from PSE 9 to PSE 10 - Where are my albums?

Hi there, I am a new user to this group... I just converted to PSE 10 - Windows XP, however, my albums did not convert from PSE 9.  Otherwise, the conversion appears to be successful.  Does anyone have any answers?  Thanks.

Albums are displayed on the right hand side pane of the application. It may be in collapsed state. You can expand the album categories, the albums would appear.

  • Where are my albums in iPhoto 11?

I recently purchased iPhoto 11 and installed it on my MBP 10.7.5.  I previously had numerous albums, now they do not show up and I don't know how to recover them.  Anyone know how to display them again?
AHHH! Why won't my OS update in the description below!!!  It is a MBP 10.7.5 NOT iOS7. Sometimes this gig is so frustrating!

    Try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder (Snow Leopard and Earlier).
or with Lion and Mt. Lion from the User/Library/Containers/com.apple.iPhoto/
    Data/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder
3 - reboot, launch iPhoto and check for Albums again.
NOTE:  In Lion and Mountain Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.

  • I just upgraded to the new Photo and find a few things missing. May find more later. My Events are gone. Also, the Albums and Projects that I created that were on the left side tab of iPhoto are now gone. Where are they?

Where are my Events from the old iPhoto? Also, where are the albums and projects I created that were on the left side tab in my old iPhoto?

    Hersco wrote:
After importing my iPhoto Library no Events became Albums. Some of my Albums are still Albums, but many are missing from the Albums tab and Sidebar. One of the Albums listed has no photos when it should have 142. Another is missing nearly all of its photos. I found some missing Albums by name via the search window. Yet they remain missing from the Albums tab. Very strange indeed. This is one big mess right now! Thank goodness iPhoto still works.
Yes, it's a mess for sure, and I've lost confidence in it for now.  First attempt, 5 photos came up missing.  Delete and start over, then after second attempt 18 photos go missing.  Even one single missing photo is a real confidence breaker for me.
After conversion, and activation of the sidebar, all of my Events were migrated into a single "Photos" Album called "iPhoto Events".  Why would I want "legacy" Events segregated into one big Album?  What the heck am I supposed to do with that?  That's useless if new photos are going to be organized in some other way moving forward.  I cannot imagine new photos automatically putting themselves into a new Event inside of the "iPhoto Events" Album... because they won't.  I'll be stuck with my old iPhoto Events in this one Album, and the new stuff organized as per Photos.  Weird, just weird.
Also, in the "all photos" view, there are dates that are just blank.  I think I know why.  In iPhoto, I merged various photos into single Events.  For whatever reason, within the Library, this left empty folders behind.  iPhoto's fault, not mine... I simply dragged & dropped photos to combine Events.   Then during Photos import/conversion these empty folders got converted into "blank" days within Photos... this is simply ridiculous.  When programming for an import, you'd want to ignore a folder if there are no files inside of it, not convert it into a block of photos that contain no photos.  It's nonsensical... you cannot have an iPhoto Event with zero photos, yet that's what was converted over.  LOL.
I'm certainly not going to invest the time into cleaning up and moving hundreds of Events and 18,000 photos if Photos can't even do a simple library conversion.  Heck, what about the dozens of photos that my iPhone 5S fails to geotag for whatever reason?  Can't edit geotags.  Can't bulk edit meta data.  These are pretty basic functions.  Total fail.
I'm going back to iPhoto for a while, hoping Apple eventually cleans up this mess into something usable.

  • Where are all of my photo albums?

I just updated my computer & found that Iphoto is now gone & that Photos has replaced it. Where are all of my photo albums that I spent so much time organizing in Iphoto now? I can't find them anywhere in Photos. It's a very badly, designed system!

    Hi Eric,
Thank you for taking the time to respond.
I have a time capsule doing automatic backups on my iMac.  I would not know which date to restore from as I just happened to notice the missing mail when I went to look for one of the old messages.
I tried your suggestion of checking the Mail/V2 files in finder, but it did not work.  There are messages there, but they too only go back a year.
If you have any other suggestions, please let me know.

  • Where are the first three Back Sabbath studio Albums? All the store has is their LIVE album crap.

It's frustrating that they have the lousy live albums of Black Sabbath and none of their original studio albums.
Specifically, their first three albums. The best music they ever did. Why aren't they available?
Also, where are all the Blues Brothers Albums. Again, only one of their Albums. Is there someplace to put in music requests to iTunes?

The itunes store can ONLY sell what the owners of the distribution rights allow them to sell.
Whomever owns the distribution rights to these albums has not reached an agreement with itunes that would allow them to sell the albums.
    You can make requests here:

  • Where are my iPhoto albums?

I cannot seem to locate my iPhoto albums when I need to attach pictures from there in an email or need to upload pictures from there to say, Costco Photocenter.
In my old Mac I found my albums following this path: User/jetteshears>Pictures>iPhotoLibrary>Album>2010 Prom.
In my new Mac there is no Album folder in my iPhotoLibrary folder when I open it from Pictures (user/jetteshears>Pictures>iPhotoLibrary. I found an Album folder under Metadata, but it was empty. I have created 4 albums in iPhoto with lots of pictures. I just cannot find them when I need to attach pictures from them.
Sorry, but I don't know the Mac terminology for what was Windows Explorer in the PC world. The schematic picture of where things are located on the computer. I seem to have a hard time finding my way around the Mac. Is there such a thing as a Mac Explorer?
I know my pictures are on this Mac. I want to send them to Costco to get them printed. Where are they?

There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:
*For Users of 10.5 and later*
You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Command-Click for selecting multiple pics.
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
(Note the above illustration is not a Finder Window. It's the dialogue you get when you go File -> Open)
You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
*For users of 10.4 and later* ...
Many internet sites such as Flickr and SmugMug have plug-ins for accessing the iPhoto Library. If the site you want to use doesn’t then some, one or any of these will also work:
To upload to a site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. However, if you're using Gmail you can use iPhoto2GMail
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
*If you want to access the files with iPhoto not running*:
For users of 10.6 and later:
You can download a free Services component from MacOSXAutomation which will give you access to the iPhoto Library from your Services Menu. Using the Services Preference Pane you can even create a keyboard shortcut for it.
For Users of 10.4 and later:
Create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser
    Other options include:
    1. *Drag and Drop*: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. *File -> Export*: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. *Show File*: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.

  • Where are all the songs and whole albums i bought for i tunes? i have a new macbook but iTunes has none of my paid for music

where are all the songs and whole albums i bought for i tunes? i have a new macbook but iTunes has none of my paid for music

Your purchases won't automatically show in your new Mac's iTunes library. If you go into iTunes > Preferences and on the Store tab tick the 'show iTunes in the cloud purchases' then what you can redownload should show in the Music part of your library with a cloud icon against them - click on the cloud to download them. Or click on your name towards the top right of iTunes and then click Purchased on the popup, and you can redownload them from there.
If you've moved countries since buying the music, or if the rights-holders have removed them from the store, then you won't be able to redownload them. In that case if you still have your old computer then you could copy them over from that (e.g. via an external drive : How to move your iTunes library to a new computer - Apple Support or via home sharing), or copy them from your backup of your downloads/library and add them via File > Add Too Library

  • Why have all my previous "My Ratings" (stars) have been removed and Smart Albums(i.e. 5 star rating in past year) virtually destroyed in the update to the new Photos program?  Where are the "My Ratings" capabilities ?

Upon updating to the new Photos program, all the previous "My Ratings" (1-5 stars) for photos have been removed. Why?  My "Smart Albums" using the "My Ratings", i.e. photos with a 5 star rating within the past year, have been virtually destroyed in the update.  The updates "modified" Smart
Album deleted the "My Ratings" parameter, retained the Date parameter so now Smart Album includes every photo within the date range parameter.  Where are the "My Ratings" capabilities ?  It appears they have been removed.  If so, why ?

Photos doesn't have true star ratings.
However, when photos are migrated from iPhoto or Aperture to Photos, they will have keywords assigned, like "1 star" or "5 stars". You can create smart albums based on these keywords.
You can also assign keyboard shortcuts so if you're in the keyword pane and type 1, it will assign the "1 star" keyword.

I downloaded an album and only have half the songs ...where are the rest

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Try deleting the problematic tune (electing to remove original file if/when prompted) and then re-downloading the file from the iTunes store.
You can re-download content purchased from the iTunes store (availability varies depending on location) using the purchased option from the Quick Links section in the top right corner of the iTunes homepage in your iTunes application on your computer.
You can re-download content purchased from the iTunes store (availability varies depending on location) using the purchased option at the bottom of the screen of the iTunes app on your iOS device.
If the problem re-occurs, select the content which is causing a problem and use the 'Report a problem' button in Your Purchase History using your computer.

  • When I back up my musical files where are they stored?

I got a nano a couple of years ago and put all my albums on it (synced through i-tunes). I hadn't used my nano for a few months and when I went back to it my library seemed to have been replaced.......is it possible that my teenage son overwrote the nano?. Where are my files actually backed up - would it be on the laptop I used during the backup process (even though I was signed on to I-tunes at the time) or are they in fact backed up remotely through the I-tunes site.
It is all so confusing - and frustrating.
I searched for my song library on my Click-free back up device but it does not seem to have stored the songs.....just stored the link to I-tunes.
Could somebody direct me on how to solve my problem.
    cheers

Your music should be in your iTunes library on your computer, and can be synced back to your nano as you did originally.  Have you opened iTunes and clicked on Music to see if your music is still there?

  • HT5622 Some pictures in my iCloud show up blank on my ipad.... But it says I have zero pics on my iPhone... Where are my pictures?

Some pictures in my iCloud show up blank on my ipad.... But it says I have zero pics on my iPhone... Where are my pictures?

Photostream in the cloud only keeps photos from the last 30 days (subject to a 1,000 photo limit). When photostream syncs the photos to your device they will stay there (subject to a 1,000 photo limit) until deleted, which means you may well have more photos in your photostream album on your device than there are in photostream in the cloud.
The consequence of this is that if you turn photostream off and on again on your device (or enable it for the first time), it will only be populated with photos from the last 30 days, which may not be all the photos that were previously in the photostream album on that device.
The problem I see is that the photos aren't on your phone and you won't be able to get them from the cloud because they are over 30 days old.
As for your iPad it sounds like they might be there, but you have encountered some sort of corruption. The problem is you can't turn photo stream off and on again to reset it, because you would lose what ever you have (even though they are corrupt) and they can't be recovered from the cloud.
The only suggestion I have is to try restarting the iPad.

  • Where Are My Missing Master Images?

I keep my Aperture Library as a "managed" library rather than "referenced, so every master image is kept inside the Aperture Library icon.
Today I decided to look inside my Aperture Library (by selecting Show Package Contents), and I can only find master images from the past five years. The "Master" folder contains folders for projects I've titled 2012, 2011, and back to 2008. None of the earlier images that I keep in Aperture, 2007 through 2003, appear in the "Master" folder in the Aperture Library, and there are no folders for 2007 and earlier.
    That is, if I look in Aperture Library -> Master -> I see folders for 2012, 2011, 2010, 2009 and 2008. But that's it!
There are also no folders inside Preview for those earlier years, or inside Thumbnails.
    And yet...
And yet when I'm in the Aperture application, I can Export any of the images, all the way back to 2003. So the master images are obviously available to Aperture somewhere. They exist. And I checked -- those earlier missing images not Referenced, they're Managed, just like the whole library.
    So where are they??
I dug through other folders inside the Aperture Library package but didn't find a thing.
    Help!

But I'm digging around inside the package and still puzzled -- images inside the folder Aperture Library.aplibrary -> Masters -> 2009 -> 06 -> 14 -> 20090614-214439/ were indeed shot on June 14, 2009. So it appears that those various level folder names reflect image creation date, not the import date.
    Joe,
these various level folder names reflect what Aperture thinks are the import dates.
The "Import Session" is one of the Aperture specific Metadata tags. You can display it in the Info/Metadata pane of the Inspector Panel, if you add it to one of the presets, and then you'll know, where to search, if you absolutely must to sleep well .
You can also use this tag to search or to define a smart album. For example, the image below has been captured in 2003, but was imported in 2010, and will be found in a 2010 folder.
