Where are my applications?!

A week or two ago I purchased a new iMac for the office. When I set it up, I migrated all my files and applications from the old computer to the new one. The new one has had a few bugs since then (which is a different, longer story), so I decided to reinstall the system software and start from scratch. Rather than migrating all my old files and applications from a Time Machine backup, I went ahead and set everything up manually.
However, my Applications folder seems to be missing a lot of very important applications. Namely, the entire iLife '08 suite with the sole exception of iWeb. That's right. No Garage Band. No iDVD or iMovie. Not even iPhoto. What the ****?
Lucky for me I have everything backed up so I know I can recover all of these apps. But I'm wondering why the system install disk that came with the computer won't reinstall these applications? It makes no sense. Any thoughts?

What's Pacifist?
One related note, will using the Migration Assistant utility re-install just my user account settings and files from Time Machine or it will also re-install the Application folder in its entirety?
Pacifist is a tool that is used to extract apps from the Apple DVDs.
It is available here:
http://www.charlessoft.com/
If the iLife is on the install CD or DVD, it might be under extras or in some obscure place.
You might insert the disk and use Finder to browse through it, although some apps are hidden, which is why Pacifist is often useful.
I have never migrated from TM so I don't know the answer to your second question, but when I migrated from my other computer to this one with Tiger, all the apps came along.
If you find iLife on the TM backup, you should be able to simply restore it directly without using any migration tool. Just use TM itself, click on iLife or whatever app is missing and restore it.

  • Where are my applications stored in Lion (Parallels VM etc)?

i have a home folder that has a "Applications" folder and i have a sidebar folder that says "Applications".
in the "sidebar folder" i have tons of apps including the apple applications but in the Home Folder > Applications folder i have two applications and a "VM Windows 7 Applications app" folder. this VM folder also has a ton of windows applications in it.
i ALSO have a "VM WIndows 7 Applications" /icon/ in my dock which takes me to a Parallels folder in my LIBRARY that apparently also contains a lot of applications.
    1. i can't tell if i manually created the VM folder in the Home > Applications folder (it says "app" at the end which is really goofy but it also has a lot of apps in it). can i move the apps in this folder or delete this folder?
    2. i don't understand why or what the Home > Applications folder does compared to the other Applications folder and why there are two apps in this folder. can i move these?
this gets confusing if i am looking to see if an app is installed.
    TIA

    hi kappy.
i think i was not clear because i don't understand what is going on with all of this..
Q1. i have two mac apps (1Password and HP Installer) in a Home > Applications folder and then the rest are apparently in a HARD DRIVE NAME Applications folder. what is the reason that the two mac applications are in the Home > Applications folder? and are all the others located in the HARD DRIVE NAME > Applications folder?
Q2. i have an /oddly/ named folder in the Home > Applications folder (this is named "VM Windows 7 Applications app" folder) - so the path for this folder is Home > Applications > VM Windows 7 Applications app - and i have a Home > Applications (Parallels) > WM Windows 7 Applications folder. why do i have two of these and which one of these is correct?
Q3. i also have a Home > Library > Parallels > Applications Menus > VM Windows 7 Applications folder that is /apparently/ giving me an icon on the desktop in the DOCK that lets me see and call up all my windows applications. presumably this is listing all the items in one (both) of the folders listed in Q2??

  • Time machine - where are my applications?

I'm fairly new to the Mac and I just got a Time Capsule, setup my backup (excluded the 2nd partition of my harddisk, the 2nd partition contains Mountain Lion while the first one has Mavericks) and now I'm not able to find my applications anywhere in time machine.
I tried to follow those instructions: Select Applications in Finder, then enter Time Machine. After it loads  go to the backup you want to restore from.  Select the applications you want to restore.
I see my applications only in TODAY, no matter to what I go back in time, the applications folder is not shown. I did not exclude it from the backup, so why doesn't it show? It's grey on the left side (under favorites) and when I go to Macintosh HD it doesn't show at all.

Thank you for the link Eric. In 15 hours (estimated backup time) I'll know more and let you know.
@etresoft: Sorry, I was not very precise (I'm not a native speaker), I have the TC now for about 3 weeks and there are multimple backups (my computer is running 12-13 hours per day and TC backup is always on).

  • Where are my applications - something changed?

has anything changed from snow leopard to lion/mountain lion?
i have Lion on the mac pro and ML on the MBP and i can't seem to find my Mac Applications in a finder directory. i /can/ find an application folder in my home folder but it simply contains a folder called "VM Windows 7 Applications.app" and i can find a "Applications (Parallels)" folder but it contains a folder called "VM Windows 7 Applications".
i can also find my mac os applications by clicking on the "Applications" item in the sidebar but where is this on my hard drive? is it now hidden?!
    TIA

It's at the top level of the drive. Command-click a folder's name in the title bar to see its location.

  • Where are my applications for like my printer?

I used to be able to find my applications in FINDER.....now I can't find them.  I upgraded to Mountain Lion and now discover my Canon PIXMA 560 won't scan.
    Please help

Canon apparently has not produced a Mountain Lion compatible version of their utility Canon Solution Menu.  So you cannot use that anymore.  You may have to use Mountain Lion's "Print & Scan" which is found in System Preferences on your Mac.
    Hope this helps

  • Where are the application shortcuts located?

    Hi
All downloads completed and used trial instead of Serial Number but application does not appear?

Hi, Jeff. This didn't work for me. I just installed CS6 and I have no shortcut icons anywhere. I still have my CS5 entries under Start > All Programs (Win 7 Pro 64-bit). I tried the CS5 icon both under All Programs and on my taskbar. Nada. I must be overlooking something....
I'm making my own shortcuts in the meantime (but I'd like to be sure I caught everything). I noticed that under x86 apps I have folders for both CS5 and CS6 with the exception of Adobe Device Central (mine is CS5).
I found them.  They're only viewable via Start > All Programs > Open All Users > Programs
I guess I can simply copy them to Start > All Programs > Open > Programs

  • Where are logged unhandled exceptions in wls?

    Hello,
I have deployed an application in weblogic standalone server, but I don't where I can found logs. Where are logged application's unhandled exceptions?
I have tested ADFLogger in some java class of the application. But here too, I don't know where I can read these logs, when deployed on standalone weblogic server.

You can find log file location from WLS Admin Console, for example: http://biemond.blogspot.com/2011/07/change-log-files-location-of-weblogic.html
Also, if you selected Oracle Enterprise Manager option when WLS domain was extended with ADF libs, then you can browse log files from your browser.

  • Where are files for my applications kept? I'm trying to do a clean install.

I have an intel imac OS 10.6.8. I have to do a clean install and need to transfer my files to a USB flashdrive because time machine hasn't backed up in 3 months. Where are files for my applications kept?

Since you mentioned Time Machine, I'm assuming you have an external hard drive? So why not make a complete backup - either with Time Machine or a bootable clone with CarbonCopyCloner or SuperSuper? Applications sometimes transfer well, but not always - it depends how many files/parts they have on the hard drive in different locations. There is no simple answer to your question because of that - it depends on the individual application. I'd back up all of it, do the install, and then use Setup Assistant to port things back.

  • Where are applications saved on computer

    hi,
i can find where all the applications are saved but i want to change it to another drive but i cant find where i change this.
i know for music you have to go into preferences but cant find it for iphone applications

On the Mac there is a new folder inside the "iTunes Music Library" folder (on the same level as e.g. "Album Artwork" and "Previous iTunes Libraries" is) for applications.

  • Where are my cc applications?

I downloaded and installed photoshop, dreamweaver and premier pro cc versions (I previously had cs6 of all these) but cannot find
them in my start menu. I see all my cs6 applications but no cc. Where are they? How do I run them? They show as installed in the creative cloud window.

    mabehr1234,
The reason for Photoshop getting installed in two different location is because we have installed both PS CC 32 bit and PS CC 64 bit on the machine . Its the same on my windows machines as well.
the folder for the 64 bit system is Program files and for 32 bit it is Program Files (X86) . Now since, production premium is available only for 64 bit system thats why its installed in the Program files folder.
I hope that might answer the query that you have .

  • Upgraded to Lion - where are the Library & Application Support folders ?

Where are the Library & Application Support folders that were available in Leopard 10.5.8 ?

They're in the same location as before, but you need to use a method such as choosing Go to Folder from the Finder's Go menu and providing ~/Library/Application Support/ as the path.

  • Where are the actual Aperture files located? Only in the application? I am transitioning to Lightroom and would like to only move some of the files. Advice appreciated. Also anyone know how to transfer in with edits?

Where are the actual Aperture files located? Only in the application? I am transitioning to Lightroom and would like to only move some of the files. Advice appreciated. Also anyone know how to transfer in with edits? Using iMac, OS X, most recent Aperture and Lightroom 5.7 with plugin for Aperture.

    Define "the Aperture files".
    Read this concise guide.
The files you imported into an Aperture Library can be exported (at any time, and repeatedly) using the command "File ▹ Export ▹ Originals".  Your Originals are never altered.  What went in is what comes out.
Adjustments and changes to the metadata that you made since creating an Image in Aperture by importing a file are saved to a text file.  This file is combined, on-the-fly, with the Original to create the Image that you see in Aperture.  There is no file saved to disk that is the full-size Image.  Thumbnails are saved, and Previews are saved.  These are JPG files, almost always smaller than the Original.  They are not substitutes for the Image for the use you have.
When you need a file of an Image to use in another program, you export the Image from Aperture.  "Export" means "Make me a file of this Image according to these file specs I'm providing".  The way to get files of your adjusted Images is simple:  create them by exporting.  Specify "Original size", and use a loss-less image-file format (e.g. TIFF 16-bit) if you want to retain as much visual information as possible.
Search the Web for information about transitioning from Aperture to Lightroom.  Note that I say "transitioning".  You cannot move a database from one format to another without significant changes, and likely some loss of information.  Adobe provides a tool and some instructions.  I strongly recommend working out the process step-by-step, and then proceeding with first a few Images, then a bushel-ful, and stopping to use the first few, the the bushel-ful, before committing your entire collection to the process.
As always, never use any computer file without having a back-up.
We have seen mixed reports here of the success of the LR tool that creates a LR database from your Aperture database.
If you want to carefully define the process, and test and refine it, use the excellent process-development, analysis, and execution program inShort.
Sadly, there is not and can never be a good, thorough re-positioning of the digital assets in your Aperture Library to become digital assets in a LR database.  Just as a metaphor for any user contemplating transitioning to another digital asset manager:  that would be like digging up a house in one country, planting it in a hole in another country, and expecting to be able to use the toilet and the sinks, turn on the lights, cook dinner, and sleep soundly.
    HTH,
    Kirby.

  • Where are HTML DB applications under Apache?

There is advice to use for HTML DB administration, and also - for developemnt puporses the web applicatin with URL in form:
    http://server:port/pls/Database Authentication Descriptor/...
For me - it results in page not found...
Well - I have installed HTML BD (10.1.0.2.0) - but - under the
    C:\oracle\product\10.1.0\dbc_1\Apache\Apache\htdoc
there is no directories like \pls...
Are these application located in other places. My installation was succesfull (without erroras) and in installation log I can found that thousands of some DB entries - named 'pages' has been created in DB... Well - what is architeture of HTML DB application - are web pages saved in Oracle DB and as plain text HTML?

They are stored in the database under the flows users. Unfortunately, they are not in a format that is as friendly as html. The pages are rendered using pl/sql packages in the database.

  • Where are the files stored for shared applications?

    Hello,
When I go to iTunes/iPad/Apps and then choose Pages under "File Sharing" and move a few files over, where are those files stored? Does iTunes make another copy and store it somewhere or does it just reference the location I copied from?
Also, if I move a file over and then delete that file, does it delete from the File Sharing section as well the next time I sync?

The information/data for apps is stored together with the app in both the iPad and in the backup on your computer. When you drop a file in the file sharing section of apps it gets added to the backup and to the iPad. When you delete it it get deleted from the backup and from the iPad.
