Where are my deleted emails?

i just switched to Mail and i'm having some issues with deleted messages.
i have an IMAP account set up, but my deleted messages are just gone, even though i have "move deleted messages to the Trash mailbox" and "Store deleted messages on the server" checked.
i originally had a trashcan icon in the left pane, as well as a "deleted items" folder.
a few old deleted messages showed up in the "deleted items" folder, but freshly deleted items were nowhere to be found.
thinking I just needed a fresh start, i deleted local mail files and the mail plist file, and recreated the account.
the trashcan and deleted messages no longer show up.
what do i have to do to get my deleted messages back?

that doesn't work.
my (local) Trashcan doesn't even show up in the left column and the "Trash" mailbox on my IMAP server is empty.

  • Why are my deleted emails saving in my 'pictures' as a PDF adobe when they should have been in my deleted email file not saved in my pictures??????

Why are my deleted emails saving in 'my pictures' as a PDF adobe when they should have been in my deleted email file not saved
    in my pictures??????

I deleted emails from my windows emails and when I went into my pictures there was all my recently deleted items as pdf adobe files and I cannot right click and delete. But why would my deleted emails be going to my pictures in the first place. So i think it must be in how the adobe program is set up and need to know how to change the settings so my deleted emails are not sent to my pictures.I do not know what other details you would require?

  • Why are my deleted emails showing up ghosted in my MacMail inbox?

  • Deleted mail account - where to find deleted emails

    Hi there
I have done the same stupid mistake others have done and accidentally deleted my mail account. I was trying to delete my gmail account in mail but selected my primary home email account instead.(I blame the computer) Thing is, it seems a 'partial' delete, in that this morning I still receive my incoming emails, ie the account settings are still there. Also all my sent emails, and trash from that account are still there. But as for the incoming emails for the past 5 years - nothing. And in library/mail there is no record of this account folder. Where does the deleted stuff go, if it doesn't go in the trash, and why did my deleted account action not wipe all the emails, incoming and outgoing, and not the account setup details in mail preferences? I am just curious because there is a small part of me that hopes somehow i can retrieve the emails from within the computer without having to pay for a data rescue program. (there would only be about 20 or so emails that we've need to keep for work purposes)

    hi!
I have a question -- if I delete my mailbox in mail (one of them) -- which is my gmail personal account -- will it delete everything off Mail AND my gmail or just Mail Application? So hypothetically, if I delete the gmail account in Mac Mail and when I sign in that same email on gmail.com -- all my mail will still be there ?
I want to just have my work email on Mac Mail and I dont want my personal email on Mac Mail as well.
    Thank you!

  • Where are the deleted photos on HD?

I'm trying to locate the place on the HD where copies of deleted Aperture pics are stored. I've searched the HD, Aperture book, Spotlight but still nothing. Thank you.

If you have the show warnings when deleting masters checked in preferences, this is what you see.
Managed master files stored in the Aperture Library will be moved to the Trash.
Referenced master files may be used by another project, library, or application. They will remain in their current locations unless you choose to move them to the Trash.
All versions, adjustments, and metadata will be permanently removed from your library. This operation cannot be undone.

  • Is there a setting where I can delete emails on all Apple machines at once (iPad, iPhone, Mac)?

I would like to be able to delete my emails on my Ipad and have them be deleted on my Iphone and Macbook Air at the same time. I feel like I spend most of my time going from one machine to the other deleting emails that have accumulated. Is there a solution for this?

I assume you have a POP account.
For each device you have to change the Delete from Server setting.
    iPad & iPhone:
Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > select the account > Advanced > Delete from server...you can change this to when removed from ibox (or any other setting to suite your needs)
    MacBook:
From Mail app  Mail > Preferences > Accounts > select the account > Advanced check "remove copy from server after retrieving" box then select your prefered option from the drop down box.

  • Archiving was turned on, but no folder was ever set. Where are the archived emails?

Finally convinced the wife to stop using webmail, and to begin using Thunderbird. I setup the pop3 account downloading all of the folders one by one, recreating the large folder structure.
Somehow, archiving was turned on. No folder was ever created for the messages to go to. Thunderbird states that the messages are going to the profile named "Personal". There is no "Archive" folder inside Personal.
Everything older than 60 days is now missing. These are emails going back 2001! Where did they get moved to?

I am thinking about Archiving as the same thing as an Outlook Archive, meaning - a completely separate set of folders mirroring what is on the server. That isn't the case, is it?
And <major expletive>, you were right. The "Delete all mail older than 60 days" was set. In my wildest imagination, I cannot imagine ever setting that. I would not willingly delete my wife's message store of 14 years.
<Another major expletive>! Glad I air conditioned the dog house in June. Gotta start thinking about getting a heater. She may let him in, but this is gonna be home for a while.

  • Where are my forwarded emails?

I used Entourage for many years before switching to Mail.
In Entourage, when you forward an email, you could always find it in the sent folder.
This does not seem to be true in Mail.
When I go to the folder that the email is located in...
I DO see a "forwarded arrow" next to the email in question
but when I click on that arrow, I get a message that reads...
Mail is unable to locate a response to this item. You may have deleted it.
But when I go check on my wife's computer...
It shows that I successfully forwarded it.
So...where can I look to see the copy that I forwarded?
    Thanks!

Sent Box Behaviors set to Never delete sent items since I started. There are roughly 12,000 emails in there ....
So - makes me wonder, what is the indexing capability of Mail and/or Spotlight? (I do not know the answer to that one.)
Spotlight does find email messages by title or content. Why not try looking for those replies using Spotlight to search on the message Subject? Just a thought.
Are you configured to keep messages locally for off-line viewing and saved on the server? Spotlight is only searching the local mailboxes. I do not know if Mail looks both in Server bases mailboxes and local. Something for you to test and learn.
Some of web based email servers have their own maintenance and deleted schedules. My Gmail tells me to set all the local settings to "never", etc. and then the Gmail servers delete and clean up on their own schedules ignoring the settings in Apple Mail.
I am sorry I don't have a better understanding of your specific situation, but if you can use other tools (Finder -> Find and Spotlight) to locate the message replies, that might put you on a path to figuring out why Apple Mail cannot locate the messages.
You can post a new thread: "What is the maximum number of local messages that Apple Mail can index properly?" To me, 12,000 seems like a lot; but then I wrote my first data bases on 1 MB external floppy drives so I may have a warped sense of limits for current systems.

  • Where are my deleted songs?!?!

I selected the songs from my library that i wanted to get rid of and click the delete button. when it asked me if i wanted to keep them or move them to the trash i click the keep button. Now i dont know where those songs are! Can you help?

The songs you deleted are still on your hard disk; to see them, navigate to the iTunes library, which is ~/Music/iTunes/iTunes Music/ by default, where ~ is the folder in the Finder's sidebar with the house icon, and locate the accompanying files.
If you've moved the iTunes library or turned off the option to automatically copy files to the iTunes Music folder when they are added to the library, they could be anywhere accessible to the computer; perform a search in the Finder.

  • Where are my archived email and address book?

For other reasons (couldn't open web pages) I did a MS Recovery where it claimed my personal data would be spared. Some aps would need to be reloaded but the data should remain.
I have been using Mozilla for a few years (great program, BTW) and had created an address book and had folders of received email that I had archived according to family member.
Since the recovery step completed I have re-installed Mozilla. It is working and has pulled new email from my EarthLink account. I'd like to now re-install the address book and my archived email folders assuming they are truly still around.

Windows will not preserve the following during a refresh:
Desktop applications that are not included with Windows. These are typically applications that you downloaded from the Internet or installed from a disk. This includes any anti-virus programs, games, or other applications you may have installed. To make it easier to reinstall your applications, a file will be created on your desktop listing the applications that were removed.
I doubt the Thunderbird profile has been preserved, otherwise Thunderbird would have picked it up after being re-installed.
Be more careful the next time, and make sure to create a backup of your profile on a regular basis.

  • Why are my deleted emails only staying in the trash folder for a month? How can I find older deleted emails?

my trash folder is only showing emails back to April 28th.

Does the account use POP, or IMAP?
If IMAP, your Trash folder is almost certainly on the server and as such, may be subject to the email provider's policy on trash/deleted folders.
Check what your provider's rules are on trash retention. You may be permitted to adjust the period for which they are held. Alternatively you can set Thunderbird to use a trash folder under your Local Folders account which will be on your own hard disk and thus invisible to your email provider.
And of course check the settings in Thunderbird for what to do with deleted messages. You can set it to automatically remove messages after a defined period. Look under Tools|Account Settings for deletion settings.
OTOH, if you're routinely deleting messages and relying on them being kept indefinitely, I'd suggest you rethink your procedure and not delete them until you're confident you no longer need them. Recycle bins, waste bins and the like are the first to go when disk space gets tight. Most email providers have a policy of automatically removing messages over a certain age from the Deleted folder, specifically to manage and reduce disk space usage.

  • OMG Where are all my email folders?

All the email folders I created (about 12) to organize mail from clients and personal contacts are gone ... tell me I haven't lost the messages as well!
I tried to pull them out of TimeMachine from before I did the upgrade to 10.8 and I can't - previous backups are "pinked" out.
Seems like other may be having simular problems. Hope this is easily resolvable :/
Also - seems like I can't "Quit" email - need to force quit!
