Where are my JPEG files?  I can see them in iPhotos, but I want them in an ordinary folder.

I would like to be able to use my Photo Files from an ordinary directory/folder, as one can on a Windows PC.  On my Mac Air, curses upon it, I can only find them i  iPhotos.  I want to edit them using another piece of software, but that software's File menu needs to refer to the traditional PC structure.
Rant: I really dislike apples unless they're Braeburns.

If the photos are already in iPhoto you can export a copy of them using the iPhoto File menu Export item.
For future photos, there is no requirement that you use iPhoto. You can bring them to your Mac using Image Capture and store them however you like. Go to iPhoto and open Preferences on the iPhoto menu and on the General tab of Preferences set "Connecting camera opens" to Image Capture.

The iPhoto library should be in your user folder/Pictures unless it was moved.

  • I have a numbers sheet which suddenly turned up as a thumbnails.jpeg which I can see is a spreadsheet but too tiny to view. How can I open it in its original size and how did this migrate to a firefox doc app?

I have a MAC OSX10.6.8. I use Apple's numbers program to do spreadsheets.
I have a spreadsheet which I have worked on intermittently for 3 years. The last time I closed it in Sept 2011. it was ok. When I reopened it again in Nov it had become a "Thumbnail.jpeg (240x310 pixels.) " I can see that it is the spreadsheet, but I can not enlarge it so that it is useful. It is just a blurred image. I have no idea how this happened. When I click on it, firefox opens so I believe that it is a Firefox app.

  • I have lost pictures in iPhoto, but I can see them in the data folder, except they are only thumbnail size.  They will not open at regular size and are showing unreadable in the "originals" folder.  I've rebuilt and nothing is restoring these pics.

I have lost pictures in my iPhoto.  We moved my iPhoto to a external hard drive and I believe since then, I have random pics missing.  Some pics will show up in the "photos" and some show with a title and a blank picture.  When I click on "package contents" in iPhoto, I have found the "Originals" folder where all the pics are pulling from and the file is there but won't open.  However, in the DataXML folder under package contents, I can open the file but it is much smaller (supposed to be 1 MG, but showing in the data folder as 63kb).  How can I get these pics restored in the Originals folder?  I've rebuilt the library several times and I just ran the iPhoto Library Manager and it won't pull from the data file.  Help!!

Make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • I have MacOS 10.5.8, since two Firefox updates ago, my allowed pop-up windows are no longer accessible-I can see them when I look for all open items (Exposé) but nothing happens when I click on it. If I don't use Exposé, the window isn't visible at all.

I block pop ups except for allowed sites, but on the allowed sites, the pop up windows don't appear unless I use Exposé, then when I click on the one in Exposé, it just returns to the open Firefox browser.

    Hi Tracy,
I don't suspect Malware yet, Id guess Disk corruption or failing Hard Drive with Files not found.
Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.

Some snaps show up as black screens when I try to view them as single pictures.Even when I run them in slideshows they show up as black screens. These are jpeg files. How can I avoid this happening?

There are several possible causes for the Black Screen issue
    1. Permissions in the Library: Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Include the option to check and repair permissions.
    2. Minor Database corruption: Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.
    3. A Damaged Photo: Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and right click on it. From the resulting menu select 'Show File (or 'Show Original File' if that's available). Will the file open in Preview? If not then the file is damaged. Time to restore from your back up.
    4. A corrupted iPhoto Cache: Trash the com.apple.iPhoto folder from HD/Users/Your Name/Library/ Caches...
    5. A corrupted preference file: Trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. (Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
    If none of these help:
    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'

  • TS1315 when trying to download photos  from my digital cameras I keep getting the message that pics can't be downloaded because of an unrecognizable format. It shows that they are all jpeg files. One camera is a Canon, the other a Panasonic.

when trying to download photos  from my digital cameras I keep getting the message that pics can't be downloaded because of an "unrecognizable format". It shows that they are all jpeg files. One camera is a Canon, the other a Panasonic. I have had these cameras for a few years and have never had a problem downloading.

I am having the same problem which has happened very infrequently before. Generally it's one photo and happened when my battery died.
However today I tried to download six photos.
None would download including several others for a total of 21 that would not download.
Since I had just installed a new powered hub and added three new external 4T hard drives, I got concerned that it was the hub. Then got really worried that I'd have problems with the data I have been backing up.
However following this sequence of events, I've determined it's not the hub, but still don't know what is causing the problem.
    (1) Put a fresh battery in the camera - same results
(1.5) Used a different port in the new hub - same results
    (2) Put the card in the card slot in the back of my iMac - no problems except that one image I knew about last week. The six new images imported.
    (3) Tried again using the cable - still same error
    (4) Changed cables - my husband has the same camera - still same error
    (4) Put the card in his camera with his cable - still same error
    (5) Put the card in a card reader and used the same slot in the new hub - no problems - same one wouldn't import but message that there are no new photos to import.
    (6) Moved the offending one image to the Trash while the card was in the card reader
    (7) Put the card back into my camera and used my cable. iPhoto had no error and displayed the message there are no new photos.
    Conclusion:
    Not the camera
    Not the cable
    Not the hub
Must remove bad photo from the card
However, I have not had to do that before. I went through several imports on vacation when there was one bad image and just ignored it each time.
Any idea why this is happening now?
    Thank you

  • Turkish characters are distorted with firefox wheras I can see them OK with IE.

    I have a website in Turkish .
Turkish charactes ,such as ç, ı, ş, ö,ü etc sometimes show as ? or some strange charactes. I can see them perfectly well with internet explorer. Also the page is distorted, so the bacground image repeats. Again, there is no problem about this when I use IE. I get complaints from my visitors also.
Thanks for your concern in advance.

    You're welcome
The server currently sends that page as Windows-1252, so you may want to change that encoding to ISO-8859-9 if that is how you saved the page.
It would probably be better to save the pages of your website in Unicode and re-upload the files.

  • Where are the FTP files in the XDB?

Hi, I can 'MPUT' a bunch of files into the XDB. But exactly where are they and how does XDB handle them? If I query the dba_objects view from sql*plus, I can not see them. Also, how do I refresh a HTTP connection to the XDB? The first time I connect, it ask me for password. Then I think the browser somehow cache the connection, so everytime I go back I see the same folders and objects, even if I close and reopen the browser. Thanks!
    John

    John,
valid XMLSchema-based documents are stored in the default table specified in the XMLSchema. Other types of files are stored as LOBs. Further, which browser are you using? Internet Explorer version 6 should be ok - 5.5 has caching issues.
This extract from the XDB Demo whitepaper explains the repository:
All the meta-data required to manage the Oracle XML DB repository is stored in a database schema owned by the database user XDB. This user is created as part of the Oracle XML DB installation procedure. The primary table in this schema is an XMLType table called XDB$RESOURCE. The table contains one row for each file or folder managed by the Oracle XML DB repository. The documents in this table are referred to as resource documents.
The XDB$RESOURCE table is not directly exposed to the SQL programmer. Instead the contents of the repository are exposed via two public views, the RESOURCE_VIEW and the PATH_VIEW. The RESOURCE_VIEW and PATH_VIEW provide the SQL programmer the ability to access and update both the meta-data and content of a document stored in the Oracle XML DB repository.
Both the RESOURCE_VIEW and the PATH_VIEW contain a column called RES. This is an XMLType column that can be used to access and update the resource asscociated with a udocument stored in the Oracle XML DB repository.
When Schema Based XML documents are stored in the Oracle XML DB repository the document content is stored as an object in the default table identified by the XML Schema. The repository contains the meta-data about the document and a pointer (REF of XMLTYPE) that identifies the row in the default table that contains the content.
It is also possible to store other kinds of documents in the repository. When non-xml and nonschema based XML documents are stored in the repository, the content of the document is stored in a LOB alongside the meta-data about the document.
The supplied PL/SQL packages DBMS_XDB, DBMS_XDBZ and DBMS_XDB_VERSION provide the SQL programmer the ability to perform common tasks on the repository itself. The
methods provided by these packages make it possible to create, delete and rename documents and folders, to move a file or folder within the folder hierarchy, to set and change the access permissions on a file or folder and the ability to initiate and manage versioning.

  • Where are the Physical Files of Portal App (Forms,Reports, etc)

    Hi..
We are developing our portal using Oracle Portal..
We use the Portal form, report, link, url, dynamic page etc in our development.
    The case is,
Our QA want to restrict the access to the file (version control).
So, they want to do a backup/copy of the development files (form, report, dynamic page etc..) and if there are changes to the portal, they want to use the backup as the development files.
    The problem is,
we not sure where the files are..
We don't know where the forms, report, dynamic page are restored and what are they (.jsp?.cvf?.java?.fmb?.rdf?)
    Can anybody help?
p/s Fyi,we also use jsp..so, we can see the physical files..e.g. index.jsp,login.jsp....but for the portal form, report, link????Where are their physical files?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
Portal Application components do not have any physical files. It is available as a package in the database. You can see it in the manage component screen. Clicking on the package body link will show you the whole package. You can copy this into a .SQL file and compile it later whenever you want, in the schema where the application is built.
    Hope that helps.
    Thanks,
    Sharmila

  • Where are my MTS file thumbnails?

I usually use Sony Vegas pro to do my editing of video.  I often gave used the Elements Organizer to rename the cameras numbered clips to something more meaningful before I start.  I have opened all of my holiday pictures into Organized & I can see the thumbnails for all formats used on the holiday except for the .MTS 1920x1080.   I can see the thumbnails in all other programs like Windows Explorer to Sony Vegas.
Where are the thumbnails & how do I get them to display?
    Thanks in advance

You don't say which version of the Elements Organizer you're using or what operating system you're working on, but they can make a difference which files display thumbnails in the Organizer.
Also, you do want to ensure you have the latest version of Quicktime from Apple.
And there are some components that only become activated when you first use them in a Premiere Elements project. In other words, if you're doing all of your editing in Vegas, you're not giving Premiere Elements a chance to download the components necessary to display .mts files in the Organizer. Try starting a Premiere Elements project and adding the .mts file as the first clip on Video 1. This will trigger the program to download the .mts components.

  • Scratch Disc Full: Where are the temp files kept?

    Hi,
I just tried to open a few of very large image files (9GB in total) and when I did I got the message "scratch discs full". Now I understand why that happened, but it seems to have eaten a whole load of disc space that wont come back. I've since closed photoshop, restarted my Mac, etc. but about 10 GB is still used up where it wasn't before. I can't locate any temp files anywhere (prefs only tells me the scratch disc is my Mac HD, not which folders it's in). Can anyone help me with this? Where are Ps temp files usually located on a Mac? I need those 10GB back!
    Mac OSX running Photoshop CS3
    Thank you!

Hi again Chris (or anyone else who cares to contribute),
My Mac's HD space continued to disappear and I have now, finally, located the cause (I think). I checked the system log (Stystem Profiler/Software/Logs/system.log) which was itself 4.5 GB in size (too large I think?). However, when I went to the file location (/var/log/system.log) I also noticed that the "asl" folder (in the same folder as the system log) was 20 GB in size!! Having read a few forum posts about similar issues, I took the risk of deleting both the system.log and the majority of files in the asl folder. This seems to have worked a treat (I now have 25GB returned to me).
As I said in my original post, this all started happening when I opened a few very big Photoshop docs (ones with layers). Do you have any idea what caused / is causing this to happen? I haven't opened Photoshop since deleting the asl files, but new ones still seem to be appearing in the asl folder. They are tiny (100KB at most) but I'm a little concerned I haven't fixed the problem. Any suggestions?
I can't see why new asl files would be appearing when I haven't even opened Photoshop.
    I'm running on OS 10.5.8
    Many thanks,
    Matt
P.S. By the way, the size of the system.log seemed to be caused by a repeated message regarding RealPlayer, which I assume is unconnected, but I have included it below just in case (I've removed RealPlayer from my Mac to see if that helps, but the asl files still seem to be appearing):
Jul 28 18:16:07 localhost RealPlayer Downloader[299]: Failed to create window context device
    Jul 28 18:16:09: --- last message repeated 1 time ---
