Where Are My Missing Master Images?

I keep my Aperture Library as a "managed" library rather than "referenced, so every master image is kept inside the Aperture Library icon.
Today I decided to look inside my Aperture Library (by selecting Show Package Contents), and I can only find master images from the past five years. The "Master" folder contains folders for projects I've titled 2012, 2011, and back to 2008. None of the earlier images that I keep in Aperture, 2007 through 2003, appear in the "Master" folder in the Aperture Library, and there are no folders for 2007 and earlier.
That is, if I look in Aperture Library -> Master -> I see folders for 2012, 2011, 2010, 2009 and 2008. But that's it!
There are also no folders inside Preview for those earlier years, or inside Thumbnails.
And yet...
And yet when I'm in the Aperture application, I can Export any of the images, all the way back to 2003. So the master images are obviously available to Aperture somewhere. They exist. And I checked -- those earlier missing images not Referenced, they're Managed, just like the whole library.
So where are they??
I dug through other folders inside the Aperture Library package but didn't find a thing.
Help!

But I'm digging around inside the package and still puzzled -- images inside the folder Aperture Library.aplibrary -> Masters -> 2009 -> 06 -> 14 -> 20090614-214439/ were indeed shot on June 14, 2009. So it appears that those various level folder names reflect image creation date, not the import date.
Joe,
these various level folder names reflect what Aperture thinks are the import dates.
The "Import Session" is one of the Aperture specific Metadata tags. You can display it in the Info/Metadata pane of the Inspector Panel, if you add it to one of the presets, and then you'll know, where to search, if you absolutely must to sleep well .
You can also use this tag to search or to define a smart album. For example, the image below has been captured in 2003, but was imported in 2010, and will be found in a 2010 folder.

  • I saturated all the available iPad (3rd. generation) screen space (home screens or desktop space) with apps, and the apps that got bumped out of the last screen, mysteriously disappeared? Where are those missing quick lauch app icons?

Running my 3rd generation iPad on iOS 7.0.4, I saturated all the available iPad screen space (which would be the 15 home screens or desktop worth of space) with apps, and the apps that got bumped out of the last screen space mysteriously disappeared. Where are those missing quick lauch app icons now? The apps are still installed and can be searched/accessed through the finder, but they no longer have a user friendly access. How can I solve this problem?

Hi Hexonxonx, thanks for trying to help, but next time please read the entire discussion, in oder to better comprehend what is being asked. The reason being is that your answer added nothing to what had already been mentioned.
Like I said, I was aware it was possible to access the apps through the finder, but the question revolved around how to recover the quick launch app icons for certain vanished apps.
Wow, kind of a snotty response to someone who was taking their own time to offer help.  Whether you thought it was helpful or not, didn't deserve such an unkind retort.  Maybe when you realize we all just users here trying to help others like you, who have issues and we don't get anything in return for the countless hours some people here spend offering that assistance, you'll maybe be a little less quick to be critical.
    Just sayin.......
Oh and Meg offered the right answer.  Put your Apps in Folders, which will create extra space for the apps which have disappeared.

  • Where are bg color / bg image in CS 5.5?

Where are bg color / bg image in CS 5.5? They don't appear in the properties panel when a table is selected. Thanks.

The background color and background image attributes of the table tag have been deprecated by the W3C and should no longer be used to specify those two things. As a result, they have (rightly) been removed from the table Property inspector). Instead, you are expected to use CSS to apply these two styles to the table in question, e.g.,
    table#thisOne { background-color:#FF6633; background-image:url(path/to/image.jpg); }
which will style this table -
    <table id="thisOne">...</table>
with a color and a background image.

  • Where are my "missing" files?

I had downloaded some files all to one folder created on my Desktop. I later transferred all these files and the folder to an external hard drive as a backup. I think-but am not certain-that I then dragged the folder and files from the Desktop to the Trash, and then emptied the trash. This is what I intended to do. In any event, the icon for this folder and its files no longer appears on my desktop.
I was recently looking for something else and did a "Find" based on "ending with" the same extension as these files referred to above, and lo, here appeared this folder with its files which I thought I'd deleted. The find window indicates the path to be the computername/Desktop/Foldername/filenames. However, if one clicks on the Tiger desktop icon and displays the desktop window, no files or folders appear there (which is what I expected, as I had removed everything from the desktop to the trash earlier as I indicated above.) If one closes all windows and looks at the desktop, only the hard drive icon appears there. Therefore, where ARE these files which appear in the Find window which say they are on the desktop but aren't? The files are indeed there someplace, too, as one can double-click them open and they are fully functional.
Is this a case of UNIX/OS X goofiness? Is there more than one "Desktop" in OS X? (I've never had something like this happen in the MacOS before all the way back to MacOS 1.x)!

OK! This is odd and I don't see why it is happening! I can do what you recommend -- I had already done that even--but, I cannot get the Desktop enclosing folder to display: it disappears.
I can do a "find" and get a list of the files in the Spotlight window. At the bottom of the window I can see that the files are in "Folder A". I can see that Folder A is in a folder entitled "Desktop". I can see that this Desktop folder is on my internal hard drive (the only hard drive on this computer). From the nesting at the bottom of the window I can double click on the Folder A and get a finder window to open in the column view. This view shows that it is in the Desktop folder among all the other stuff listed in the left-most column, which otherwise shows the rest of the contents of the Hard Drive. However, if I do anything in this window, then the Desktop folder DISAPPEARS along with its listing of Folder A and the files in Folder A. If I click on the Desktop icon which appears on the left along with the typical Tiger icons there (Applications, Documents, etc.), then all that appears is the one other folder which is actually on my desktop and which I can use in a normal fashion, but it has nothing to do with this mystery Desktop which has my Folder A with my "missing" files.

  • Why is my Hard disk capacity so low? Where are the missing gbs?

I have just purchased a mac book pro intel core duo 2ghz 80gb and have happily been instaling and setting up to suit all my needs.
It is currently showing that I only have 45.3gb of drive space left and that 28.91 gb has been used up already.
I know that i havent installed this much or even have that many files on it yet. my applications folder shows 4.72 gb in use and my documents folder shows 10.78gb. Theres 1 album so far on my itunes / music folder and nothig in ictures or movies. So where is the missing gbs? I can't believe the os system can be almost 14gb! Any clues?

Isn't the figure closer to 13? That is about typical.
To understand why, fire up Utilities > Activity Monitor (System Memory tab) and look at the size of Virtual Memory.
VM may be 5-8 Gig. That's all space being used on your hard drive by hidden VM files.
The sleep file may be 2-3 Gig. And then there are various caches that speed up all aspects of the computer.

  • Where are my missing wish list items for music?

For some reason I cannot find my entire wish list. I haven't checked all the applications but my music library is missing many wish list items I had saved to my account. I can remember some of them but I was really looking forward to saving all my interests in my account and now many of them are gone. Is there anyway to get them back?

  • C'mon Apple - Where are my missing clips?

Someone at APPLE/FCPX Developer (s) must know the answer to this question that I posted earlier, surely????
I imported some files into my existing event folder. These files were labelled as "untitled" as I used FCP7 and an HD deck, that I had to hire for a weekend ( cost me more than I expected it too) to import into my external hard drive. I did this because I was using FCPX, but die to severe dropping of frames, I went back to the old reliable FCP7.
Anyhow, I decided to learn FCPX (work requirements) and imported these files into the events folder. Now, the original files are no longer on my external hard drive, neither are they in the projects or events folders and I have tried every search possible.
I am running FCP7 and when I start FCP7, lo an behold, I get the offline clips missing red line thorugh it - so I know I didn't imagine this.....
In the middle of a project and a over due website - would hate to have to rehire the hd deck and re-import the footage all over again.
    Anyone....????please.....

"You imported files from an HD Deck to an external hard disc using FCP7"
Yes. I however imported it twice, once with FCPX and then had to switch to FCP7 as FCPX was dropping a lot of frames. I am running a MacBook Pro 8gb Ram, 2.53 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 3 external hard drives.
"You then imported those files from the external disc to an FCPX event (stored where?)"
In the same hard drive i.e external hard drive, in the capture scratch folder, that FCP7 created.
"....Did they ever come in to the events folder or did you get an error message? What happened?"
Yes, I imported them into the events folder, using the import function.  I was given a folder saying original media. Had no error messages.  Went away for a couple of hours, leaving the Mac on ( but closed) and came back and can't find the original folder, the files on the external hard drive, with the capture scratch folder have gone. The files in the event folder are nowhere to be seen. I've exhausted my searches with spotlight, finder and combing through every file on the hard drive. Was up till 4 am this morning trying to figure it out.
And sadly NO, I did not back it up with Time Machine.
I am just wondering whether the answer may lie in the file names. When I logged and captured the files, as there were a lot of tapes, I let them default to the 'untitled' names. FCPX tends to group the files as keywords and gave each of my other files (imported with FCPX) wit their own default names. ( I did not change the defualt settings when importing)
But in any case, I cannot understand why FCPX would take all the 'untitled' files from the external folder and destroy them?
Also when I use the Advanced list in FCPX, there are a lot of 'null' files with no data on them.
Hope this explains this in a little further detail. Thanks for the reply though.....

  • Where are the aperture master files?

...trying to find where the photo files actually are on my hard drive?
    using Aperture 3.1.2 , fyi.
    thanks

I recently had this problem and just figured out what it was. A3 default import option set <Store files> to 'in the aperture library'. What this actually does is ad the photos to the 'Aperture Library.aplibrary' file, which gets increasing bloated file. If you find this file and right-click to 'View package contents' you'll find your photos buried in there in <masters/year/random-number/>.
If you want the files to simply be stored on the hard drive in a select file location, just change this dropdown in the import options to be the Image library location (or some other).

II've just got an iphone 6 and set it up using my iCloud backup . Everything has restored perfectly except I've only got 2 of my music albums what has happened to the rest

IIf you purchased them from iTunes then the missing albums May be in itunes on your computer. Make sure they are selected in the Music TSB and sync your iPhone. If you purchased them on your iPhone you can download them again. if you copied the missing albums from CDs that you own you should find the albums in your iTunes library.

  • Where are my missing albums

I spent two weeks of sick leave from work creating a website using iWeb, I had been putting it off for ages. I bought a domain and figured out how to link it all by myself, for which I am very proud of. I have passed out my new website address to all my friends and family only to find that 9 times out of 10 more than half of my albums aren't visible on the site. I'm a little embarrassed because I send potential portrait clients to my site only to receive an email from them telling me they think things are missing from it because the layout looks odd.
    Can anyone help me?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Can you provide us with the URL to you site so we can examine it first hand?

  • Where are my missing artists?

I was going to ask which files I need to back up to avoid having to rip my CD collection for a second time (it took me three months). Had a quick browse in the Finder and Found (ha!) that there's a very limited number of artists in Music>iTunes>iTunes Music.
Also the iTunes folder takes up ~16GB but my iPod has 41GB on it. Where is everything else? And once I find everything which folders/files do I need to back up?
    iMac Intel 20"; 512MB   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   G5 iPod

I think I've found the missing files. Now I need some advice as to how to marshall everything back to where it belongs.
The original iTunes folder (within Music in the Finder) amounts to 16.92GB. I've found a second iTunes folder, taking up 25.7GB, within the Audio Hijack folder where recorded streamed audio goes.
So now I have two iTunes folders, each containing identically named folders/files called Album Artwork, iTunes Library, iTunes Music and iTunes Music Library.xml. In addition the iTunes folder (lets call it iTunes folder 2) within the Audio Hijack folder contains a folder named Previous iTunes Libraries.
No doubt it's a simple exercise to reconcile everything and I'm probably being over-cautious but is it OK just to give everything in iTunes folder 2 a slightly different name then move them into the original iTunes folder?

  • Where are my missing songs

My iTunes library no longer has many of the songs that were once there. This is not my imagination. For example, I have ten versions of "Stardust" in my iPod, which were of, course, downloaded from my iTunes library. However, I now only have two versions there. This is only one example. I suspect that there may be over a hundred missing songs.
I have searched for the songs with "Spotlight, but that didn't help. Are there any other ways of searching for missing songs?
Finally, how do I find the total number of songs in my iTunes library and in my iPod Nano? I would like to see just how many missing songs there are.

    Tygerlylly wrote:
To find out the number of songs in itunes, open it, and click on music and it should say the number of items in music at the bottom of the itunes window in the frame. I found the total number of songs thanks to you. The figures so small and out-of-the-way, that I've missed them time after time. However, I couldn't follow your next tip. I don't see any "iTunes folder," and I don't know how to access it. How do I find them?

  • Account back but where are my missing messages??!!

There is no way I had NO messages between 01:43 and 18:36.  Where have they all gone?  When will BT update us on where they will be restored?
Has anyone tweeted the press on how rotten this service is?  I don't have a Twitter account but I'd have thought I'd have seen something in the press on this by now.

  • Where are my missing apps

I have a number of applications that are in iTiunes (and on my iPad/iPhone) that, when I click on them to get info, respond with an error saying that the app "could not be used because the original file could not be found. Would you like to locate it?". How can I get the apps on my devices to be consistent with those in iTunes without causing more problems? Please note that for some apps I have both an iPad and iPhone version.

For the free apps, just re download.

  • Missing master files in Aperture

I am missing master files from Aperture 3. I rebuilt the library with no success.
Oddly, I can't even find them in Time Machine even though I know I exported versions of them. The entire month of imports doesn't ever appear in Time Machine even though I have proof that I used the master files to export in July. I haven't used Time Machine a lot so maybe I'm missing something.
    What else can I try.

Have you checked, if the missing masters are inside the Aperture Library package?
Sometimes Aperture looses the connection to managed masters.
You need to find out the exact date that you imported your images - you can find that information in the "Import Session" metadata tag - ad this tag to one of the metadata preset that you use to display the metadata in the info panel - set themetadata preset in the  info panel to "edit".
Then open the Aperture Library package (ctrl-click the Aperture Library in the Finder window) and select "Show package Contents". Inside the window that opens go to the "Masters" folder, then inside to the year , month, day you imported the images. Are the original master image files still there?
If yes, then make a backup copy of these images, to have a copy just in case, and try to repair the permissions in your library with the library first aid tools:
Aperture 3 User Manual: Repairing and Rebuilding Your Aperture Library
If you cannot reconnect the missing originals/masters this way, reimport the masters you found inside the library.
Please post back, once you looked inside the library, if the masters/originals are still there.
