  • I opened iPhoto and it opened as if i just bought the computer. Where are all my photos and how do I get them back?

I opened iPhoto and it opened as if I just bought the computer. Where are all my photos and how do I get them back? Luckily for the most part, I backed up photos on my flash drive, but I had just imported dozens of pictures from my phone. I reopen iPhoto soon after and the prompt asking how I would like to start iPhoto and all came up. I selected what brought me to the iPhoto I open up to every day only without any pictures.

Are you in the correct account that contains the iPhoto Library?
Did you ever move your iPhoto Library to an external drive?  If so, and you disconnect this drive, iPhoto will create a new blank one in the pictures folder.
Check your computer to see if the "iPhoto Library" was accidently moved to the trash.
If you still can't locate your images, launch finder, and select "all images" in the source column.  This will display all images on your computer.  Be carefull not to delete, move or modify the images you see in this manner, as it will cause issues with good iPhoto Libraries, however it may help us locate where the images are.
Once you locate an image, click it once, then in the top menu bar, select "view / show path".  This will display it's location along the bottom of the finder window.
Once you know where the image is, this should help you launch iPhoto to the correct library.

  • HT201317 I had my photo stream on and my icloud all set up, i just had the screen replaced and they somehow lost all the photos off my phone, but why wont the photo's reload back on to my iphone now that im connected to wifi again, where are all my photos

I had my photo stream on and my icloud all set up, i just had the screen replaced and they somehow lost all the photos off my phone, but why wont the photo's reload back on to my iphone now that im connected to wifi again, where are all my photos???

When photos are added to the photo stream album on a device (either due to a new photo having been taken or having been synced from another device using the stream) they remain in the album.  However, the syncing process involves copying the photos to the photo stream server where they are kept for a maximum of 30 days, up to 1000 photos.  If a device is reset or the stream is turned off or turned back on again (or in your case, the device was repaired), the photos that were on the device's photo stream album are gone and the only ones to appear are those that are currently on the servers (recall the 30 day limit).
If some of your photos are older than 30 days, then they are no longer stored on the cloud and hence are not synced down to the iphone.
Recall, photo stream is just a syncing service, it is not designed as a storage service for photos.  Always sync photos to a computer for archiving.

  • Where are all my photos stored?

where are all my photoes stored?
and music btw. I am cleaning my drive and need to back up

Assuming the default setting, your photos are stored in the iPhoto Library, in your Pictures folder.
Same assumption with iTunes: The Music folder.

  • Where are all my photos you said had been moved

where are all my photos you said had been moved

If you had photos in Photoshop.com when the migration happened, then an account would be created for you on Revel using the same Adobe ID unless you had already created one.
Did you already have a Revel account when your files were migrated?  If you did not, then the photos would move to <YOUR FIRST NAME HERE>'s library. If you already had an account  with an existing library and photos, then migrated files would be moved to a library named "Photoshop.com library". To change libraries, use the menu on the upper left at adoberevel.com or go into Settings, if on an iPad or iPhone.
Please let me know if that helps.

As far as restoring goes, you will have to check itunes restore from a backup, or have imported them somewhere else.

  • Where are my actual photos??

Why is it I cannot actually get to the photo files like I could in previous versions?? (iPhoto 7.1.3)
I'm a big boy and can be trusted to handle MY files the way I want to.
Where are these stored and how can I access them WITHOUT opening iPhoto?
    Bob

    Bob
Why bother do all that - all of these are faster, easier and safer.
There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:
For 10.5 users: You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Apple-Click for selecting multiple pics.
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
To upload to a site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. If you're using Gmail you can use THIS
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto. With 10.5 you can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
Or, if you want to access the files with iPhoto not running, then create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use THIS
    Other options include:
    1. *Drag and Drop*: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. *File -> Export*: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. *Show File*: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
You can set Photoshop (or any image editor) as an external editor in iPhoto. (Preferences -> General -> Edit Photo: Choose from the Drop Down Menu.) This way, when you double click a pic to edit in iPhoto it will open automatically in Photoshop or your Image Editor, and when you save it it's sent back to iPhoto automatically. This is the only way that edits made in another application will be displayed in iPhoto.

  • My photostream photos dissapeared - only the last 1000 show...where are my old photos???

    Hi,
i am totally confused and frustrated with iCloud.
i had many many photos on my Photostream and am removing all i can from my iphone (after synchroniszing on the cloud) as i run often out of space on the phone. whatever happened, all of a sudden, i can only see the last 1000 images on my Photostream - all of the others are GONE! i havent touched nor deleted anything. on the contrary, i even upgraded my storage to 55GB to be sure i have enough space (iphone reports free 38 GB on my iCloud space). I cant find my older Photostream photos any more neither when connecting from my iphone, nor from my iPhoto and aparently they are nowhere to be found on my iCloud. WHERE are my photos??!!! it will be a huge disaster if i lost them and not sure how to start understanding paying for a reliable cloud and loosing it all? anyone any idea???

First of all, photo stream storage is separate from regular icloud storage, so buying more space is not necessary.
When you take a photo on a device that has photo stream turned on, that photo is added to the local photo stream group and uploads to icloud's servers, which then download the pics to other devices where they are also stored in their photo stream group.  After 30 days, the photo is deleted from the server, but not the devices.  (No more than 1000 pics are accepted, after which old ones are delete to make room for new ones.)
If, however, you turn off photo stream on one device, the photos in the photo stream group will be deleted.  If you later turn it back on, then only photos on the server will download to the group.  Pictures that were deleted from the server due to the 30 day rule will no longer be available.
It is advised that whenever you have photos appearing in the photo stream group, you move them to a permanent album if you wish to save them.
In short, photo stream is a conduit for copying photos from one device/computer to another - never treat it as some kind of permanent storage service; it isn't.

  • Where are all the Photo and Music files hiding?

When I "Get Info" for the Music folder in my Home directory it says that the folder contains 7,672 items taking up 34.87 GB of HD space. On the bottom of the iTunes window it says that iTunes includes 3,514 songs using 16.55 GB.
Similarly, "Get Info" for the Pictures folder in my Home directory says that it includes 24,989 photo files using 28.22 GB of space. However, on the bottom of the iPhoto window it says that there are 5,574 photos in iPhoto.
The question is, what are and where are all of these extra music files and photos?
The numbers quoted in the applications themselves look right. I don't have 7,672 tunes and I definitely don't have 24,989 photos.
I transfered the folders from my iMac to the Macbook Pro by connecting the iMac in Target Disk mode by Firewire. Is it possible that somehow I created many duplicate music and photo files? How do I eliminate the duplicates to free up HD space?
Thanks in advance for your help.

What Mac do you have? MacBook?
    Version of iLIfe?
iPhoto stores and uses a package now for the iPhoto LIbrary which if you do get info and show package contents has your files and library you imported.
Might want to ask in iLife area too.

  • HT4946 Where are my Iphone Photos?

Where are my photos backed up from my iphone? I am using a new macbook pro and cannot locate the MobileSync folder anywhere. They are not located n the Itunes Media folder either.

    Your backup folder is here:
    ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/
You will have to turn on "Show All Hidden Files/Folders" to see it. The only photos in that folder are photos from your camera roll. However, nothing in that folder is directly viewable...it's an SQLite database...without the use of third-party software.
What are you trying to do?

With the new organization of the photos under OS8, it takes forever to find one you're looking for.  And the older files don't seem to be around anymore.  Is there a way to reorganize the photos?  And where did the older photos go on the phone?  Thanks.

  • So where are the real photos that are used between iPhoto and iMovie?

    OK....this is getting ridiculous...
So where the heck does iMovie and iPhoto really store and pull the images from cause this makes no sense...
I will try and make this is a shorten version of a long story...Here is what I am dealing with...
G5 with iLife 06 and all updates...
Powerbook Pro with iLife 06 and all updates...
Spent five days editing project on my Macbook Pro --> emptied trash and bye bye project...Started over on my G5 since none of my clips are editable now (Thanks Apple! I needed that)
I had previously spent a week editing over 200 photos in Photoshop on my Macbook...This included color correction and dust and scratches as well as some retouching...So I transferred all Photos onto my G5 from my Macbook Pro and imported into Library...New discovery...Photos look like crap now...Like they were never cleaned up at all...Interesting...
So I start redoing some of these retouches and save them...Of course the changes are not reflected in iPhoto or iMovie since it doesn't really use the originals again after the initial import...Or does it?
So now here is another baffling thing to me...I do red eye correction to some photos and it is an immeditate change that can be seen in iMovie when importing...But if I rotate the pictures, no...sorry that only seems to take effect after I rotate the original in Photoshop and then reimport into my iPhoto library and delete the duplicates that have now gotten created in the process...
Can someone help me understand what is going on...This added work is giving me a headache...Where and how does iPhoto store and use the images? Why if i rotate a photo it doesn't take effect in iPhoto/iMovie unless I completely reimport, but I can remove red eye instantly...And what has happened to all the changes I made to the existing photos to remove the dust and scratches originally?

All images must be in a project. You can place then in as many albums as you wish- even albums outside the project where they reside- but they will remain in the project.
Move the images to the album. Then drag them over the project where the album resides and they will be moved to that projects. If you drag them to an album and not the project, they will remain in the original project.
Kinda hard to wrap your head around at first, but you'll see that it makes perfect sense as you progress with the application.

  • Where are my iWeb photos?

I had photos in iWeb and gallery , where did they go, I did agree to go with iCloud, but I don't see where the photos with the mobile me links were sent.
    Thanks

    What happened to MobileMe Gallery?
Galleries published to MobileMe are no longer available. However, for a limited time, you can still save copies of all photos and movies published to your gallery. If you have a Mac, it is likely that most of your gallery photos are already in iPhoto. If not, you can sync your gallery photos to your iPhoto library. You can also download your photos and movies directly from the web. Please read this article for details.
iCloud does NOT allow you to host your web sites. You can continue to use iWeb but, will need a 3rd party web host to upload your websites to. Depending on the version of iWeb you are using you have a couple of publishing options:
iWeb '09 (3.0.4) you can publish to an FTP Server or a local folder. ( With the built in FTP in iWeb you will end up with an address like "www.YourDomain.com/sitename/Home.html )
iWeb '08 you can publish your website to a local folder
I have been using IX Webhosting for several years with little to no problems "usually the problem was something I did" and they have been quick to solve any issue I have come across. The have plans that start at $3.95 a mo (USD) and their customer service is top notch.

  • Where are my scanned photos now that I'm in iPhoto 6?

    Hey there,
Can anyone give me a clue about where my scanned photos get stored so I can find and import them? I've looked everywhere. (What happened to the ease of iPhoto just leaving them on the screen to be dragged onto the library page?)
    Thanks! Ann

    Ann:
    What scanner are you using?
The scanner was set to scan "jpeg to iPhoto
By that do you mean it was set to save the file in a folder named iPhoto? If that's the case then that's not what you want to do. Scan photos to a folder outside of the iPhoto Library folder and then import them from that folder. Putting files directly into the iPhoto Library folder from the Finder or another application will not get them imported into iPhoto.
If that's the case look inside your Pictures/iPhoto Library folder for any jpgs in the top level of that folder and move them to the desktop. Then import them from there.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Where are all the photos after import?

I don't know where to begin. iPhoto has gotten worse and worse over the years, but unfortunately I have tens of thousands of photos in it going back decades.
The tipping point for me was after photo streams and extra syncing was added to iOS 5. After importing to iPhoto I simply don't know where all my photos are anymore.
The import process itself is all funny. Sometimes it seems to just import the photo stream - which doesn't include videos.
Sometimes it will import everything if I press Import again, but the numbers don't match the numbers of photos on my iPhone.
If I check latest import it doesn't match what was just imported.
If I select to delete photos on my iPhone after import it deletes some but not all of them.
I don't have any confidence anymore that the photos imported. And organizing them - forget about it. It's the worse mess I've ever seen. I can't find anything anymore.
    It definitely doesn't "just work."
I would like to clear out the photos on my iPhone 4 because the camera has gotten slow and I read somewhere that having too many photos in the camera roll can slow down the camera operation itself. Is that true? That would be sort of dumb if true because the only way of making albums directly on your iPhone is to leave the original photos in the camera roll.
Is there anything better than iPhone I can use to organize all my photos?
    Thanks,
    doug

Well, I do like that Photostream syncs between my iPhone and iPad. What I don't understand is why the import into iPhone seems to sometimes have just Photostream events and then separately events sorted by date, but without the items that were imported into Photostream events.
Rather than turn off Photostream altogether, what would be nice is if I could just turn it off in iWeb. Is that possible?
I'm sorry my "finding and organizing" complaint sounds vague. It's hard to explain clearly because everything is so convoluted in iPhoto now.
Basically, it used to be that
    (1) I could import and everything would be broken up into events by date;
    (2) I could delete from my iPhone after import and everything would be deleted.
But (1) is not happening reliably. And neither is (2).
I just want to be able to organize my photos and find them. Even finding them in the current version of iPhoto got harder than it was in the previous version of iPhoto. It's just become a really confusing mess of a piece of software to use.
Right now the immediate problem, to attempt to be clearer, is that my imported photos and movies are not broken down by date-delimited events. The problem seems to be related to Photostream imports which confuse the normal event grouping process.
    Thanks,
    doug
