Where are my original icons?

how can i find the original icons

Hi
The natively installed icons on your Mac are located in various folders in your systems folders and are not in one easy location, nor easily usable for that matter.
What do you want to do?

  • Where are the toolbar icons located on a mac

I want to find out where the toolbar icons are found in the OSX.
The ones that  I am refereing to are those found in finder windows at the top, that show things like the quickview icon etc.
I want to be able to make my own for scripts that I want to place in the bar, so if anyone knows where I can download a template etc I would be very grateful
    Many Thanks
    Matt

You create an alias in the top bar of the Finder window simply by dragging the source file onto the middle area of the bar. What you'll get for a script file I'm not sure, but if it's not to your taste it should be possible to change the icon of the source file in the 'get info' window and then re-drag it to the toolbar.
To remove items from there, you need to hold down the command key (⌘) while dragging to the desktop (same goes for sidebar).

  • Where are Aperture Library icons stored?

After installation of Mountain Lion, all Aperture libraries have lost their icons. They are completely blank (clicking where they should be does nothing). Clicking a library name shows a gray area where the icon should be. Get Info shows the icon is blank. I found the Aperture library icon in the contents of the Aperture application so if that is where the icon is stored for libraries, it is not being used. I can paste iPhoto library icons in each of my Aperture libraries but it would be better if the libraries had their own icons back. A newly created library also does not have an icon.

The Aperture  Libraries use a generic icon created by the Finder. This icon depends on the kind of the library and is not stored in the Aperture library package. But if you set a custom icon, you will see a file called "Icon?", when you browse the Aperture Library package from the Terminal, for example:
Listing my Aperture Library "Leuchtfeuer" in the Terminal: This library has a custom icon.
    ls -aix ~/Pictures/_ApertureTestLibraries/Leuchttuerme.aplibrary
    769261 .
    5451826..
    769262 Aperture.aplib
    9311240 ApertureData.xml
    769265 Attachments
    769266 Database
    9330718 Icon?
    772295 Info.plist
    5445089 Library.data
    5445085 Library.iPhoto
    5445087 Library6.iPhoto
    772296 Masks
    772297 Masters   .............
Sometimes the icon will not show, if the custom icon file has the wrong permissions. Then the icon should show again, if you delete the "Icon" file, for example:
          rm ~/Pictures/_ApertureTestLibraries/Leuchttuerme.aplibrary/Icon^M
did reset the icon to the default icon.
To enter the path to the icon file, only type "Ico" and then the tab key for command completion. The filename contains special characters, as you can see by the ^M in the example above.
Since all your libraries have corrupted icons, I'd try to repair the permissions on your Aperture libraries or to repair the libraries, before starting to patch library packages however, see "Repairing and rebuilding your Library"

  • Where are the firefox icon files located on a Windows XP PC?

I have already looked in Program Files-Mozilla Firefox. There appear to be no icon files! I just need to know the file location.

    please help me!!!!!!!
The .ipsw files for iPod firmware updates are located at:
    C:\Documents and Settings\(account name)\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPod Software Updates
The filenames are a bit cryptic, but you can make out the version.

  • HT204476 So where are my original photos?

What happens if I do delete my original IPhoto library after I migrate to Photos? Will I still be able to access my photos through IPhoto?
This is the absolute worst rollout of a new program I have ever experienced at Apple. Events are also missing from the new program.....except there is a folder labeled IPhone events. How do I set up events in Photos? What a mess.

If you delete your iPhoto Library then no, you will not be able to access your Photos through iPhoto.
    But you will via Photos.
Events are no longer a feature, they've been replaced by 'Moments'. The Folder iPhoto Events contains albums that were automatically created from your iPhoto Events.
Things are different. You'll need to rethink things if you're going to use the app.

  • Where are the default icon set for OSX located?

Hi all. im new to osx and mac (like 2 weeks in) and really like it so far.
I really like the folder icons with the stamped icon on them, like the downloads folder with the stamped down arrow, and the applications folder with the stamped A.
Ive created a folder for my Work files which i'd like to add a custom icon too. i know how to change the icon, but id like to see what other 'stamped folder' icons are available in the osx iconset so i can change it to one of those for consistency sake.
    Anyone know how?
    Thanks

The commands baltwo gave you will show all hidden files, as will TinkerTool, which you REALLY don't want to do! There is an enormous amount of visual clutter that will appear.
A new command appeared in Leopard, I think, which made it possible to easily change the hidden bit for any file or folder, without need of the specialized commands from Developer tools. IF the hidden bit is the only problem this will fix it:
    sudo chflags nohidden /System/Library/CoreServices/CoreTypes.bundle
Just copy the above and paste into the command prompt in Terminal, press Return, then type your admin password (it isn't echoed to the monitor in any way, so type carefully) and press Return again. The CoreTypes.bundle should then reappear.

  • Where are my CAN icons? Installed LV7.1 and they disappeared.

I have since re-installed CAN (v2.2) with LV7.1 support, and the icons are still not there.
Any clues? Both the menus and vi.lib subdirectories have NICAN sub-folders.

  • Where are my desktop icons going?

Everyone once in a while, usually after long battery use, my desktop icons disappear. The only way to get them back is to restart. Anyone experience this? I'm running 10.6.2 with all updates.

I get that sometimes when moving moving my MacBook from work (where I use an external display in addition to the built-in display) to home (built-in display only). I think Finder misses the display change event, and still thinks that I'm using both displays.
Relaunching Finder fixes it. Option-Control-Click on Finder in the Dock, and select Relaunch. Not perfect, but not as big as restarting the OS.

  • Where are the original documents after scanning/copying?

Where does the document go after it has been scanned or copied on the ADF?   We have scanned three documents and can not find the originals .

    Hi,
Printer/scanner CAN'T chew the originals, they should be on the glass. Their copies or scanned files normally are in C:\Users\[your logon]\Documents or My documents  depending on which Windows on your computer. You can also find where they are by scanning from your computer and the default folder should be under the preview window or on the screen before Save

  • Here's a Lion-noob question... where are the desktop icons?

like the harddrive. the one that usually pops up in the upper right hand corner and says "Macintosh" along the bottom?

Click onto the Desktop, select Preferences from the Finder menu. Click on the General icon in the toolbar. Check the boxes for the items you want displayed. Click on the Sidebar icon in the toolbar and configure what is displayed in the sidebar.

  • Where are the original components stored?

I want to look at the source of a component in library://ns.adobe.com/flex/spark, specifically the swfLoader. How can I find this?

In Flash Builder you can select the class name and hit F3 to view the source.
You can also look in [Flash Builder Install Directory]\sdks\[SDK Version]\frameworks\projects.
Or you can go here: http://opensource.adobe.com/svn/opensource/flex/sdk/

  • Where are these unix executable files coming from and how do I recover the original text file?

where are these unix executable files coming from and how do I recover the original text file?

When you upgraded to Lion did you have AppleWorks installed on your mac?
Most of the AW documents can be opened by Pages 09 or Numbers 09 with most of the orginal format in tact. (I do not know if previouse verision will work) just open the AW file with both and see which one works best.
Text Edit will also open most of the AW files as well but will require a lot of work to restore them to their orginal format.
If you have AW Database documents then they are not supported.
These document show up as "exec icons", Kind: Unix Executagle File.
They also will show up as .cwk file if they are small files. I have a couple that were under 1mb that are shown as " Kind: AppleWorks Document" but will not open.
The only option to open AW database is to have AW installed on a mac with a pre-Lion OS to recover the file.

  • Where is the original os x icons???

Hello there ive manged to lose the icons i had for my movie folder and now it is only a blue colour, where do i locate the original icons that come with tiger????

If you are referring to the Movies folder in your home folder, the custom icons for the folder and the Sidebar are automatically assigned by the Finder to the folder inside your home folder named Movies. Capitalization matters! It must be named EXACTLY Movies, and it must have this path:
    "/Users/yourname/Movies"
If you moved it or renamed it, put it back the way it was and restart. Everything should return to normal.
Sometimes the Finder has a memory failure about icons in general. A restart usually brings it back to normal.

  • I have just restored data from an external hard drive, but half of my iTunes songs are getting the error "original file cannot be located."  Where are these files?

My Windows 7 PC just had to be reformatted, and I have retrieved all of my files from an external hard drive.  About half of my iTunes library is working fine, the other half pop up the error statement "original file cannot be located."  If they haven't come off my external drive, where are they?

This happens if the file is no longer where iTunes expects to find it. Possible causes are that you or some third party tool has moved, renamed or deleted the file, or that the drive it lives on has had a change of drive letter. It is also possible that iTunes has changed from expecting the files to be in the pre-iTunes 9 layout to post-iTunes 9 layout,or vice-versa, and so is looking in slightly the wrong place.
Select a track with an exclamation mark, use Ctrl-I to get info, then cancel when asked to try to locate the track. Look on the summary tab for the location that iTunes thinks the file should be. Now take a look around your hard drive(s). Hopefully you can locate the track in question. If a section of your library has simply been moved, or a drive letter has changed, it should be possible to reverse the actions.
Alternatively, as long as you can find a location holding the missing files, then you should be able to use my FindTracks script to reconnect them to iTunes .
