Where are my Photos and Music after running Migration Assistant

Ran Migration Assistant to bring over all information for my new MacBook Pro from my old MacBook Pro can't locate my iTunes and my iPhoto library. I ended up running Migration Assistant twice and appears I have duplicate information for lots of items. New MacBook Pro is now taking up about 500G of Space old was about 250G?
I do have plenty of back ups and they are current.

no, I didn't see any message that I had to copy everything somewhere else first.
Is there any other software on the planet that requires this?????  I updated my firefox software a few weeks ago, got no message that bookmarks needed to be saved elsewhere prior to update, so I didn't back them up.  Guess what happened after the update...ALL MY BOOKMARKS WERE STILL THERE!!!
I can't believe that it was not stated more clearly that everything has to be backed up prior to a simple software update!!
Some of the apps were on my itunes, but none of the content nor the settings...so I'm basically starting from scratch.  All this for an update that is probably doesn't change anything anyway.
I maintain my initial message to anyone considering updating their apple device:
CAUTION!!!! CAUTION!!!!!
WHEN YOU GET A MESSAGE THAT YOU NEED TO UPDATE YOUR APPLE DEVICE, SKIP IT UNLESS YOU ARE WILLING TO LOSE EVERYTHING YOU HAVE ON IT AND START FROM SCRATCH.
All of your apps and other content should still be in your iTunes library from when you last synched your iPad. You may need to re-check under each tab to make sure that the content synchs again after the update. As I understand it, the update basically reformats the device.  The content *should* have been restored after the process was complete, but even if it wasn't, you still have not lost it.  It's on your computer, waiting to be re-synched.
Even if your apps somehow were lost from your computer, you can always re-download them for free from iTunes, just as you can for iTunes music. But I doubt that you have lost any content from your computer.

  • Problem with Lion upgrade after running Migration Assistant

I have a MacBook Pro that I purchased earlier this year.  I bought a new MacBook Air yesterday.
I used Migration Assistant to migrate some of my data/settings from my old MacBook Pro to the new MacBook Air.  After the migration, all of my original data was still available on the MacBook Pro (good as I wanted to keep a copy on the MacBook Pro and not all data was migrated).  The new MacBook Air received all the right data and is working well.
I then purchased a Lion upgrade for my MacBook Pro and started the installation process.  The installation process seemed to be going fine, but the MacBook Pro eventually hung.  I let it "run" overnight hoping that it would finish the process, but the machine was still hanging a day later.  I forced the MacBook Pro to shut down using the power button.  Now, when I restart the MacBook Pro, I get the "Mac OS X Utilities" screen asking if I want to Restore from Time Machine Backup, Reinstall Mac OS X, Get Help Online, or Disk Utility.  Does this mean my data is not longer available on the MacBook Pro?  Also, I do/did have the MacBook Pro connected to a Time Machine and it had up-to-date backups at the time I ran Migration Assistant.  However, I noticed that after running Migration Assistant, the MacBook Pro was complaining that it was no longer connect to the Time Machine.
My instinct tells me that I should attempt to restore the MacBook Pro using the Time Machine backup, but I'm wondering if it might be able to revive the MacBook Pro without having to take that step.  Or, maybe I should select the "Reinstall Mac OS X" option first?  Any ideas?
If I need to use the Time Machine backup, do I need to do anything special given the post Migration Assistant behavior I described above?
    Thanks for any advice!

How can I fool Time Machine into using the original Backup Folder and just doing an incremental backup?
You can't. after using MA on it you have to start a new backup sequence. you can change computer name in Sharing preferences to anything you like but it won't affect TM backups.

  • Where are my photos in Lightroom after I have edited and saved them in Photoshop?

I'm using LR and Photoshop CC. When I export a photo from LR to edit in Photoshop and then save it in PS and close the file why doesn't the saved file appear next to the original file? I know it's in Lightroom somewhere, but I always have to close LR and reopen it before the edited file will show up in Lightroom next to the original file with the same keyword. What determines where the file will be located within the list of files with a particular keyword. It seems to depend on which external editor I use. Sometimes the edited file is not shown with the original until I close and re-open Lightroom, sometimes it will be at the end of the list of files with that keyword and for some external editors it will immediately show up next to the original file.

Anyone looking? Or has everyone given up on solving this problem. Apparently, most don't have this problem but no one knows how to solve or why it happens. Others have had this or very similar problems and no one has found an answer. Adobe just ignores my queries about this as is normal for them.
When I select photos in LR and Export to Photomatix Pro to create an HDR photo the saved result appears immediately next to the original files in LR. When I select the photos in LR and go to Photo > Edit in >Merge to HDR PRO in Photoshop the resulting photo does not appear next to the original files even though LR says they are in the catalog. After I close and reopen LR they will be there next to the original files. Photoshop is the only editor where I have this problem. When I use any other editors such as those by OnOne, Topaz, Photomatix Pro, process a file and save the new files shows up immediately in LR right next to the original file. When I process a file in Photoshop and Save it I notice the filmstrip in LR jumps but the saved file from PS doesn't show itself until after I close and reopen LR.
    AAARGH!

  • Where are my photos, and how to I move them

Hi, all. I'm a very inexperienced Apple user. Switched from Windows to Apple a little over a year ago and still can't figure out this Apple OS. IPhoto is also pretty mysterious to me, but getting a little less so.
Here's my current problem: I want to back up my data. I want to do it by copying my folders from my "administrator" account (that's the thing that looks like a little house when you're in the "Finder," right?). I notice that when I go into the "pictures" folder in the administrator account, it's completely empty. I think I know why, but I'm not sure how to fix it.
A few months back, I went to the "genius bar" at my local Apple store with a bunch of questions unrelated to iPhoto. The "genius" who was helping me did something that made the photos accessible to all of the accounts on this computer. (I made two accounts in addition the administrator account, but I've decided to delete them because they serve no purpose.) I think that's why there are no photo files in the "pictures" folder in the administrator account.
    Can anyone here figure out:
    (1) how I can get all the photos to show up in the pictures folder in the administrator account;
    (2) how to make sure that all the new photos I import into iPhoto go into that folder from now on; and
    (3) how to do this in a way that won't cause a problem when I delete the two accounts that are not administrator accounts?
Many thanks in advance for your help.
    Regards,
    John

I did the search using the "magnifying glass icon" at the top right corner of the screen. I got several results, but none gave me any useful info. The first result puts me into the photo library in iPhoto, but doesn't tell me where the library is stored.
I only know this--it was made into a "shared" folder, or something to that effect. Does that give a clue as to where it is and how to move it or change it?
    Regards,
    John

  • Where are my photos and albums?

    Hello,
I had over 1200 photos in IPhoto and they’re all gone! When I opened IPhoto, it looked like it had never been used and there are no photos are in the trash bin.
This is what happened, I was deleting a few things in HP Gallery trying to clean things up and I had to leave my home to do an errand. When I got back and opened IPhoto, all of the photos and albums were gone.
Luckily, I have a back up file with all the photos, but I no longer have any of the albums. Here are the files I believe I deleted from HP Gallery: Library.IPhoto, Thumb 32.data, Thumb64.data, and ThumbJPG.data. Do any of these files have anything to do with the missing photos and albums? If so, can I restore IPhoto with the albums?
I have spent hundreds on hours scanning family photos and creating albums in IPhoto to give to family members. The thought of sorting through 1200 plus photos, trying to recreate these family albums is depressing. What could of happened?
    All comments appreciated!!!

    Hi don,
You run into problems when you have another program accessing iPhoto's important files.
The Library.iPhoto contains all your album info plus much more. The Thumb files can be recreated on a rebuild. If you trashed the first file, then no you cannot get your album info back.
Two Apple kbs for you to read
Don't tamper with files in the iPhoto library folder
    About the iPhoto Library folder
You will have to create a new library by following the next directions:
    Close iPhoto
Rename your messed up iPhoto Library to "iPhoto Library_old"
Drag this library to your desktop
Hold down the Option key and launch iPhoto
This is the window you will get
Create a new library or choose a library to open
Choose to create a new library
Once this new empty library is open it is time to import the images from your old library
    Go to File>add to library
Navigate to the old library on your desktop and choose it.
iPhoto will start importing the images from your old library
    This is what to expect:
Your images will be imported in nice dated rolls. (make sure your view is set to sort by rolls to see it) There are a couple of caveats to this. You will get rolls named "Originals" These rolls will contain your video clips and your original images that you had edited. If you had RAW files they would be in those rolls too (I don't do RAW, so I don't know for sure) Delete what you don't want from those rolls. You will also get the jpeg pointer files to your video clips imported. They will just be jpegs and will not point to the video clips anymore as iPhoto made new ones when the clips were imported again. You can delete those. they should be in a roll right next to the newly imported video clips so they are not hard to find. The thumbnail files don't get imported as iPhoto makes new ones when the images are imported.
Once all you images have been imported, check through the library and make sure everything looks ok.
You can now start making your Albums, and do your keywords or any other organizational steps.
You can also delete the old library on the desktop.
It is also a good time to backup this new library to CD/DVD by burning the iPhoto LIbrary folder in the Finder, or copying the iPhoto Library folder to an external drive formatted for Macs, or copying the iPhoto LIbrary folder to an iPod.
    Good luck!
    Lori

  • Where are my files after running Migration Assistant?

I ran Migration Assistant using a Time Machine back up as I bought a new MacBook Pro that could hold all my files that I previously had on an iMac and another MacBook Pro. I first ran Migration Assistant and got all my files, preferences etc. on the new MBP no problem, but then after trying to combine the files from the iMac using a Time Machine back up as well, I don't see any of the files from my iMac available anywhere. However, all the space is filled up. Where are my files? Am I doing it wrong?

Have you read for possible solutions over in the "More Like This" thread over here?----------------------->

  • Where are my photos and videos in iCloud?

Ok - So I just backed up my iPhone on iCloud for the first time. I had to purchase extra space so that my photos would all be backed up. The apple store genuis told me iCloud would back it up. So how can I access them through iCloud on my computer? I don't see them. I want to make sure that if my phone crashes that all of my pictures will be saved.

iOS iCloud backups can not be accessed outside of restoring your phone.
You should be transferring photos to your computer to be backed up.

Photo Stream can only be accessed via iOS devices running iOS 5 or later, Macs running OS X 10.7.5 or later and PCs running Windows Vista or later via iCloud COntrol Panel.

  • OMG, Lost iphoto08 library and settings after using migration assistant

I wanted to back up all files from my ibook on my new Intel imac using migration assist. All the user settings and names were the same on both machines so it put all the files on my main user account, which seemed to just merge music and documents together. But when I opened iPhoto08 it said it needed to convert the library from the older version on ibook.
Now the library of thousands of photos that I'd put on my imac is completely gone. Searching frantically, but nothing there! This includes several rolls I've taken on holidays.
Please say they are recoverable somewhere as I can't imagine they've just been deleted? They don't appear anywhere in my user "pictures" folder or anything.

    Thanks TD,
But it wasn't in my picture folder. Only one library in there. Have just figured out that when I used the migration assistant from my ibook it deleted my old user profile with all my pictures in it. Have just now found the old library. Now have two photo libraries so have to use iphoto library manager to switch between them.
    Cheers for the quick response!

  • Missing notes and documents after using migration assistant

    Hey there,
I recently "killed" my macbook with a glass of water and tried to at least save all my documents, notes, safari-bookmarks and anything else from the hard disk.
I managed to copy all my word / excel documents and downloads and photos etc. manually to another mac, but I'm struggling to find my notes from the desktop bar. I tried using the migration assistant to get them from the hard disk to the new mac, but they are just not showing up, when I open the notes on the desktop bar of my migrated user account on the new mac. Also none of my documents, which I copied manually to another user account before, are showing up. Except for my Safari bookmarks and contacts nothing seems to be moved to my new mac.
Has anyone dealt with this problem, too and knows how to get the notes back? Restarting the mac didn't help.

If the 2 computers have the correct cable connections, try the Target Disk Mode.

  • After running Migration Assistant, Dashboard no long starts

I installed OS X 10.5 retail, iLife 08, and updated them on a MacBook(2007). Dashboard worked fine, then I migrated my user accounts from a 10.4.11 Macbook, Dashboard no longer starts in any account.
    Anyone else see this happen?

Yeah, I thought about that being easier. And with as much time as I've spent on this, it was appealing. Anyway...the erase and install did not make a difference, still no working Dashboard. I guess I could try an archive and install, but I think I'll be wasting even more time.
I'm assuming that whatever is coming over in my Apps is the culprit. This is my master computer image to be cloned for labs in a Middle School, so losing Dashboard in this environment is not the end of the world, but this just should not happen in principle.

  • Where are my photos on the PC after sync with an iphone?  I know nobody out there is stupid enough to suggest to me that they are encrypted and inaccessible, right?  Seriously?  How stupid would Apple corporation have to be to do something like this?

That would be just as foolish as making my music unusable on the PC...
Okay, Let's assume that Apple is indeed THAT foolish.......How does one get the photos from the phone to the PC and still use them?

The photos are still on your phone, and if enabled in your Photo Stream. They are not automatically transferred to your computer when syncing.

  • Where are my photos?  just tried to access time capsule after my first back up and am unable to open iphoto to verify they were backed up.

where are my photos?  just tried to access time capsule after my first back up and am unable to open iphoto to verify they were backed up.

You can't open your backups directly with apps.
But you can see some types of files in your backups.  If you're still on Snow Leopard (or Lion with iPhoto '09 or earlier), see the gray box at the end of Time Machine - Frequently Asked Question #15.
If you're on Lion with iPhoto '11, you can use the Finder to see the iPhoto library, per the beginning of that same link.  All you can see there is the library and size.

  • Help Please. All recent photos and music are missing.

All photos and music loaded after 2005 are missing. It is almost as if all settings have reverted to a time in late 2005. iPhoto has old photographs present, but no recent photos. However, recent history in Safari is listed correctly. Also, Mail is asking to setup account information, as if this is the first time it has been used. I've explored the possibility of someone creating a new user, or changing home user or home user name or short name, and that has not happened. I've also checked the trash. I've also logged out and in several times.
    Thank you.

    Problem solved.
It seems that someone in my family accidentally moved the "library" folder out of the home directory and onto the desktop. Who know when it happened, but I guess once I logged out and back in either a new library was created, or more likely an older library folder was found and used. I renamed that folder to an unusable version, dragged the correct "library" back to the home directory, re-started and was in business.
