Where are old backups before Maverick?

I have been using Time Machine from 6 month ago on Mountain Lion.  Yesterday I installed Maverick and Time Machine seems working OK. But I reallized that all my backups before yesterday are lost or at least I can not see them when I run Time Machine.  Where are those old backups?   I lost some mail folders saved on my mac while migrating to Maverick and I need my old backups.

sskimpt
all my backups before yesterday (PRE MAVERICKS) are lost
Is it a Firewire or Thunderbolt external HD?
Very important question
FIrewire & Thunder bolt drives are having issues with Mavericks, avoid same until a fix is issued if you can.
many are reporting same, there is a firewire fault and TB HD on external HD from LaCie (Seagate) and from WD especially.
Technicians are looking into it.
Until there is resolution, consider setting up a USB ext. Time machine HD.
Until then consider confining Mavericks use with USB HD.
Ive tested a very long line of USB HD on Mavericks, all seem fine.

where are the backup files for my iPad located on my macbook pro with maverick ?

As an addendum, if I need to, and hopefully won't, unless I switch computers, how can I revert from a copy of a different backup?  Thanks. :-)

  • Where are last documents in Mavericks finder?

    Hi There
Firsty post on here but looking for advice on where (in the new finder on Mavericks) I can see my list of last documents. Previously it used to list them by day/week etc and it was a really convenient feature when I opened finder to see the actual docs listed in that way.
I know I can change each of my folders to 'arrange by last opened' which goes some way to what I want, but this still has everything categorised within individual folders so I still have to click several times to get a single document.
I basiclally want to open finder then just click once if hte document I am looking for was recently used. I am 99% sure this is how finder used to work before Mavericks??
Thanks in advance for any help with this!
    Claire

Folder that don't start with "LabVIEW" are MSI folders. These are defined by Microsoft. The "Program Files Common" refers to the "Common Files" folder inside of "Program Files". You can also see the list here: http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/811FACF92E678065862576660077CE21. There is no shortcut for the "Public Documents" folder accessible from the NI installer.

  • Where are my backups gone?

    Hi!
Today I upgrade my MacBook Pro to 10.6.2. First I manually did a last Time Machine backup to my always attached Time Machine Volume. Then I deleted my complete disk (BIG, big, mistake!) and did a fresh install of Mac OS X.
I then used Time Machine to recover my data from the latest backup, which is from January 9th, 2010! But then I realized that the latest data recovered is dated October 26th, 2009! Now I am missing all my pictures, e-mails and bought iTunes-Music, Mobile Applications for my iPod and some podcasts which I put on my hard disk between October 26th and yesterday.
Browsing the Time Machine Volume there are some files dated December something, 2009, but all my mailboxes are dated October 26th, 2009! There is lot a free space on the Time Machine Volume left, so where the f*ck are my backups? Time Machine always completed successfully, what am I doing wrong?
This is very bad, because photos can't be recovered and I am also missing some e-mails with software license keys...
    Regards, a ****** Mac user... :-/

I'll give you some more, in-depth information:
Using Terminal I browse to "/Volumes/Time Machine-Backups/Backups.backupdb/MacBook", there are lots of directories starting "2009-10-15-235832", followed by "2009-10-26-233742" and the other directories for the weekly, daily and hourly kept Time Machine backups. "Latest" is linked to "2010-01-09-143122" (that's exactly the time I did the last backup before wiping my disk).
In "Latest" I find "MacBook" and then all my directories. So I "cd" to: "Users/<myname>/Library". Lets compare the listings of two directories:
ls -ltr "Mail Downloads": There are some e-mail attachments I got, and the latest files are dated dated 2009-12-21 -- just as expected.
ls -ltr "Mail/Mailboxes/<some-recent-changed-mailbox>/Messages": The latest files are dated 2009-10-15 -- that's the date of the first full backup I took!
As you can see, I did not exclude the Mail directory:
    $ grep <myname> "/Volumes/Time Machine-Backups/Backups.backupdb/MacBook/Latest/.exclusions.plist"
    <string>/Users/<myname>/Downloads</string>
    <string>/Users/<myname>/Temp</string>
So -- why didn't Time Machine backed up my recent data, although Time machine told me it did?
    Any suggestions welcome.
Regards, a still frustrated Mac user.

  • Where are textedit backups

Textedit preferences indicate that the application makes periodic automatic backups while work is underway — and gives the user the option of having those backups deleted when the file is saved. I recently experienced a power failure with a sizable document unsaved in textedit. But I'm not sure where the textedit backup files are saved.
Can anyone tell me where textedit backup files are stored?
Does textedit make a backup of a new document that has been worked on but has not yet been saved at all?
Thanks for any help. Please let me know if this question should be posted in some other forum; I took a guess on this one.
    Greg

    Hi Greg,
this Q was posted a while ago.
Did you solve your problem ?- Eeven IF you didn't find textedit backup file(s) there are ways n means of finding the text that yr looking for-
BUT, CAVEAT (=watch out for caves.. :)) usually as I tell my (exclusive) clientele it's only probable if they 'follow the rules'
    and, RULE ONE is:
STOP :- Do Nothing further with that disk/computer before you call me
    - and I do mean *Nothing - use a different Computer if you have to.*
    Rule 2:
    There is NO Rule 2.
but - depending on circumstance, there may still be a way to find some/most/all .
*+Please post back.+* Even if you are now ok/have recreated or retyped the text, our dialogue will help Those Who Come Later.

  • Where are my backups?

Hi, I have a new mac book pro (retina- Lion OSX 10.8.2) and want to retrieve my time machine backups on this new device but whenever I enter the time capsule application  I  get an error message saying "unexpected error occcurred error -6584'). Eventually the time machine image window starts but none of my back ups are there.
Any idea what's going wrong or what I should do?
(the old Mac that I was backing up was a Mac book pro Snow Leopard if that is of any importance...)
    thanks!

  • Are old backup files saved or deleted in iTunes

I had to restore my Iphone back to factory. The backup file I created was too big to restore and the Verizon tech (who I foolishly let take over my computer) backed up the empty phone over the old backup file. I found a program to restore the original backup data, but it's been overwritten by the recent backup. Does iTunes delete the the old backup files or store them in a different folder?

iTunes only keeps one normal backup, per iOS device. As you've found out, its an incremental backup in that data that has changed or deleted is added or removed from the backup. Unless you backup your computer, your data is gone.

  • Where are the backups?

Are there backups of my iPhone and iPad stored on my hard drive somewhere? I see iTunes say "backing up" all the time and I wonder, 1) are there multiple copies, and 2) do they involve the whole content (media etc.)? I'm wondering if this takes a significant amount of space on my primary drive and whether I can move them to an attached secondary drive.

Is your backup disk a shared disk? How did you "see" the disk for your first backup- was it drectly connected to your Macbook, or accessed wirelessly over your network? In theory, if you can mount the disk on your desktop, you should be able to use it with Time Machine. In practice, however, TIme Machine appears to be more reliable if the backup disk is either connected directly to your local machine, or to your wireless router via USB.

  • Where are old iMovie files that were in "Movie" favorites before I got new iMovie and Mavericks?

Just installed Mavericks and bought the new iMovie.  Looked for labled finished movies folders that I had kept in Movies on my HD favorites on OS 10.6.7, but that Fave doesnt exist in Mavs.  Where can I find the labeled folders with all their working files? Some unlabeled files do exist individually in All My Favorites but seem of little help without labels.

    I meant "All My Files"

  • Upgraded computer and PSE... where are old tags?

I recently got a new computer. I also changed OS from Windows 7 32bit to Windows 7 64bit which required re-formating my drive. I made a backup copy of everything. After installing the new OS, I upgranded from PSE 8 to PSE 9. I tried importing my pictures to the Organizer. It told me that my pictures were tagged and did I want to also bring in those tags. I said YES. However, after importing the pictures, only a fraction of the tags appeared. I have hundreds of pictures and dozens of tags. All the pictures are there but not the tags. Are the tags kept in a specific file that I can just move to the new folder? How do I recover all of the tags?

I made a backup copy of everything.
If you made a copy of the PSE Catalog file *.pse8db, then you need to find that on the old computer, move it to the new computer and then double-click on it. For this to work, your photos have to be in the exact same location on the new computer as they were in on the old computer.

  • Where are the backup files of the iPhone stored on the Mac?

Hi, I made a backup of the iPhone 3G for a friend who wants to go back to a Qtec machine... I could save and restore his pictures and contacts. Now, what about the SMS, do you know where they are stored on my Mac, so that I can restore his messages (the formating might be another problem on a PC or PC-like Handheld). Thanks to all for your contribution (I guess it must be in the Users/Library folder, but where?). Patrick
Message was edited by: The PL Project

On a mac it should be in:
    ~/Users/home folder/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup
    Windows:
    C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup
If I remember correctly everything should be in there...

  • HELP! where are the backups stored?

Hi there, I backup an external drive where I keep all my design work but have left the drive at home and was hoping to work from the back up files created by Time Machine on my Airport Time Capsule but have no idea where they are. All I see is this....

Ha! I found the answer myself...I did a right-click over the icon 'Stephen's Mac Pro' and opened the file with Apple's Disk Utility and then mounted the backup on my desktop and voila there it all is...all the files accessible! fantastic save to the day again by Time Machine!

  • Where are device backups stored?

iTunes has kept multiple date-stamped backups of each of my 7 devices on my MacBook Pro somewhere. I'd like to keep just the most recent ones of each and delete the rest to regain some hard drive space.  What is the best way to do this?  Thank you.

Make sure you are pointing to the right folder wich is in the home directory:
    i.e: "$HOME/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup"
    Where "$HOME" stands for "/Users/YourUserName"
There is another "Library" folder in the "Macintosh HD" disk
and this one is a non-hidden folder when the one in "/Users/YourUserName" is indeed hidden.
This is probably where the confusion comes from (happened to me...)
