Where are the back/forward arrows to navigate web site?

Locking duplicate thread.
as I progress through a web site and I want to go back a page and then forward to the page I just left, how do I do this? I do not see back/forward arrows as in other browsers.
Thank you,

If the menu bar is hidden then press the F10 key or hold down the Alt key, that should make the menu bar appear.
Make sure that toolbars like the "Navigation Toolbar" and the "Bookmarks Toolbar" are visible: "View > Toolbars"
* If items are missing then open the Customize window via "View > Toolbars > Customize" or via "Firefox > Options > Toolbar Layout"
* If a missing item is in the toolbar palette then drag it back from the Customize window on the toolbar
* If you do not see an item on a toolbar and in the toolbar palette then click the "Restore Default Set" button to restore the default toolbar set up.

• Why do the back/forward arrows no longer work - they are grayed out?

When I start a new Firefox window or tab the back/forward arrows do not work and are grayed out. I can get previous sites by right click. I also get an orange "Firefox" dropdown tab in the upper left corner. It appears as though I have a Firefox window on top of a regular window.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
*Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

There's another way.
Right or control click the + then click Remove Item.
Just remembered that keyboard shortcut!

• Why are the back/forwards buttons no longer working after upgrade?

Hi, I recently upgraded from Firefox 3.5 (I believe) to Firefox 4.0.1 and now the back and forwards buttons no longer work. I tried resetting the settings under the toolbars > customize, etc. That didn't work. FYI, I'm using a mac. Any solutions? Thanks in advance...

A possible cause is a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

• Where are the back ups?

Hi all
I'm new to this forum and as my Mac has recently been causing me an increasing amount of problems it's likely that I shall be frequenting the site more often, I shall look forward to your assistance and who knows I might even be able to share some of my experiences and knowledge...
Anyway to the problem at hand.......
I've been running Time Machine since November 08.
I turned on the Mac today and it says it's lost connection with the backup disk and hasn't backed up for 10 days. For what reason only it knows since the external drive hadn't been touch or interferred with in anyway.
Anyhow, the drive wasn't visible in Finder so I unplugged then replugged it and it is now seen.
However.......
When I go into Time Machine there are only hourly back ups
from 20.00hrs 10/02/09
to 9.00hrs 11/02/09
Okay it's the 21st today and it hasn't backed up for 10 days but where is everything preceding 20.00hrs 10/02/09?
I'm slightly worried.

Hi, and welcome to the forums.
A few questions:
How much data is on your internal HD (ie, how much is TM backing-up)?
How big is your TM drive, and how much space is available now?
Download the +Time Machine Buddy+ widget. It shows the messages from your logs for one TM backup run at a time, in a small window.
Navigate to the first backup today (after the 10-day gap). Copy and post the messages here (be sure to get them all, as sometimes they overflow the small window).
With those messages, and the sizes above, we can figure out what's going on.

• Where are the keychains? I cannot access two sites

It has been two wks now that I am unable to get my web mail, and do my banking. I am able to access other sites with no problem.
They just will not load. My Internet provider was of no help, even though they tried several different URLs to help me access their site (Sympatico).
I found, in this site, somebody with a similar problem who solved it by trashing the keychains from the library folder.
My keychains folder is empty! I can find nothing to trash.
Can somebody help please.

Bring up the Keychain app /Application/Utilities/Keychain Access.app navigate to your site's info and delete them. That should remove it from the keychain.

• Where are my backed up bookmarks on my external drive?

Firefox backup issue:
This is concerning restoring my Bookmarks after having to replace my laptop PC. For the past several years I’ve been backing up my laptop to an external hard drive. I’ve always included the User subdirectory in that backup. The User/Dave/Appdata/Local/Mozilla/Firefox/Profile s/d is included. Today I needed to restore bookmarks from a prior backup in April, 2012 after reading the Firefox help on this subject, I accessed my external drive and looked in the s/d mentioned above. However when I clicked on the “wp83jzms.default” file, instead of seeing a list of backup dates from which to choose, I only saw files with “Cache” and “unclassifier” in the file name. Where are the backed up bookmarks from that date?
I also noticed that a different backup had stopped capturing files part way into the Local s/d so that the Mozilla s/d was not written to backup. Wonder what’s up there?
I’m using Windows 7 and Firefox 13.0.1

That is the wrong profile folder and only stores the cache files.
You need the profile folder part in AppData\Roaming to get the main profile folder files.

• Where is the page forward/page back drop down arrow? Went missing in 4.0

Prior to upgrading to 4.0 there was an arrow to the right of the page forward/back icon that opened a drop down of the last 20 or so pages. It is no longer there. I have tried "restore default set" with no luck.

You can get the drop down list by either right-clicking on the back/forward buttons, or holding down the left button until the list appears.

• What happened to the tool bar/back & forward arrows?

the tool bar and back/forward arrows are gone- how do I get them back? When I visit a subject within a site (such as craig's list) I can't use the back arrow to get to the site page

• Where are the tab rewind and fast forward toolbar buttons in ff 6.02?

The navigation toolbar has historically allowed customization with a button which would rewind the tab history to the first tab opened in a session and another button which would fast forward to the most recently opened tab. Neither of the buttons are available when customizing the navigation toolbar. Are those options available in FF 6.02? If so, where are they located. If not, why not? I am aware that a left click on the back\forward buttons shows the tab history. My OS is XP and I am using FF 6.02.

• What happened to the arrow on the back/forward buttons that allow you to jump around in your history?

In the previous versions of Firefox, there was a small arrow button attached to the back/forward buttons. Clicking this arrow showed a menu of the last 10 sites you visited and allowed you to jump back or forward, without having to press the back button 5 times, for example, to get to the fifth last site you visited. Where did the little arrow go? Can I turn it back on somehow?

Right click the Back/Forward buttons to get a list of visited sites.
You can also consider installing this add-on: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/backforward-dropmarker/

• The back, forward, reload and stop buttons are greyed out, the address bar stays blank when I go to a website and firefox loads to a blank page, not my home page. There are 3 users on this computer and it only happens on one user.

Firefox loads to a blank page, not my home page. When I click on the home button it takes me to the home page. The back, forward, refresh and stop buttons are greyed out and not usable. The webpage I am on does not show up in the address bar. If I type something into the address bar, that address stays there no matter what page I go to next.

Just upgraded to v4. It did NOT fix the problem.
