Where are the Events in the new Photo App in Yosemite?

I just updated from iPhoto to Photo and it seems like I lost the Events ("Ereignisse") of iPhoto and there is no option to show them. Can someone help?

I have the same question. Almost all of my smart albums were based on Events, and now all of these are broken.
Example, I had a smart album for best hikes of the year, and it compiled all 5 star photos from Events with "hike" in the name.

  • How do i get photos sent via email into the new photos app in yosemite 10.10.3

Using mail on my mac, having upgraded to Yosemite 10.10.3 i now cant import photos sent via email into the new photos app. if i highlight the photo in mail and right click the mouse the option is still to export to iPhoto !!

I was clicking on the photo, so thanks for telling me about the save icon - unfortunately this still tries to open up and save to iPhoto the same as clicking on the image but my photos have been moved from iPhoto to the new photos app as part of the update to 10.10.3 Yosemite. Although it also gives me the option to save other places i cant work out how to save into the photo app

  • Anyone else having freezing issues with the new photo app on yosemite?

Whenever i send a pic or video directly from photos....it kinda freezes and won't let you do much more. I have to force quit every time

The warranty entitles you to complimentary phone support for the first 90 days of ownership.
If you bought the product in the U.S. directly from Apple (not from a reseller), you have 14 days from the date of delivery in which to exchange or return it for a refund. In other countries, the return policy may be different. If you bought from a reseller, its return policy applies.

  • How do I fix orientation of photos after they were changed after importing iPhoto library into new Photo app in Yosemite?

When I switched over to the new Photos app in Yosemite v10.10.3 and imported my iPhoto library to it, random photos in my library had their orientation changed. Some are upside down and some are turned on their side. I have a huge photo library, so this is frustrating. Hoping I don't have to go in and fix each one. I tried rebuilding my library by lauching Photo holding down option+command, but that didn't fix anything. Please help! Mahalo!

You do not have duplicate albums or photos.
    Photo Stream
    http://www.apple.com/icloud/features/photo-stream.html
The Camera Roll is for photos/videos that were captured by your iPhone, and for a photo saved from a received email, MMS, or from a website. These photos are also placed in the Photo Stream to be synced with your computer and/or with another iOS 5 device. Photos/videos in the Camera Roll can and should be imported by your computer as with any other digital camera.
All photos transferred from your computer via the iTunes sync process are stored in the iPhone's Photo Library. The photos in the folders or albums below include a pointer to the original photos stored in the Photo Library. The photos are not duplicated taking up double the storage space. This way you can view the photos in a particular folder or album below only by selecting the folder or album, or you can view all photos in all folders or albums be selecting Photo Library.
    This cannot be changed.
Removing photos or folders/albums of photos from your iPhone that were transferred from your computer via the Tunes process is done in the same way - via the iTunes sync process.

  • Using the new Photos app on multiple devices - confusion!

I find the recent way ios/Photos handles photos quite confusing. I am not too concerned about not having a Camera Roll, but seeing how not having this creates strange behavior when editing/deleting photos, I can see how the Camera Roll is definitely necessary or the whole thing needs revamped to handle things better.
    Here's my set up:
    iMac with iPhoto
iPhone 5s with the new Photos app
iPad Mini with the new Photos app
The one things I DO like is that whenever I take a photo (or upload in the case of my iMac), the photo is duplicated across all devices. That means I could take a photo on my iPhone and then edit it on my iPad Mini which has a bigger screen. (Well, so I thought..but read below.) Yes, you could do this with Photo Stream, but having all photos in one place is a bit easier to remember and find. I also like that when I delete the photo on the device that I took it on, all photos on the other two devices are also deleted. Easy. Thanks.
But that is where the ease of use ends.
If I delete the photo on any other two devices (i.e. the devices that I did NOT take the photo on), it only deletes on the devices which I didn't take the photo on. In other words, it leaves the photo on the device which I originally took the photo on.
To add to the confusion... if I edit the original photo, the edits do not get duplicated to the other devices! I see the original photo on the devices with which I did NOT take the photo but the edited one is on the original device I took it on.
Let's add even MORE confusion....if I want to edit the photo on a device it was not taken on, I then get a notice that it has to be Duplicated before I can edit it. Well, okay, I do that and then edit it. However, I now have the original showing up twice on the device it was originally taken on...the original photo and the now duplicated photo--it's the EXACT same photo since no edits get carried over from the other device.
I believe all of this is because of what happened when ios 9 combined the functions of the Camera Roll and Photo Stream together. It exhibits both behaviors but since you cannot be sure which photo was taken on which device, you have less understanding what will happen when you try to delete a photo or edit it.
Here's the key headache....What happens if I want to make sure a photo is deleted from ALL my devices and I don't remember which device I took the photo on? I will have to check every device just to be sure! I can't even open up iPhoto on my Mac and delete it from the Photo Stream album because it will remain on the original device. So, I have to check all devices and also iPhoto on my Mac for good measure in case I actually uploaded a photo there--which I do since I am scanning in old photos.
Key headache #2...you end up with duplicates of the photo if you edit the photo on any device on which it was not taken on. You also get different versions of the photo. You end up not knowing which photo was the original. To be sure to have all edited photos eventually on you iMac, you'll need to sync all devices physically to iPhoto.
Who has time to track all this?
What should happen is this...all of the photos, including their edits, should sync exactly on all devices. My Recently Added should look exactly the same across all devices and carry over any edits...now that is what I would call Continuity and Handoff! But as it stands, we don't have anything close to this...is more like Pandemonium and MixUp!
This is really a mess and way too confusing to keep track of. I can only hope this get resolved when Photos on the Mac is released.

Go to the App Store and check out the Purchases List. If iPhoto is there then it will be v9.6.1
If it is there, then drag your existing iPhoto app (not the library, just the app) to the trash
Install the App from the App Store.
Sometimes iPhoto is not visible on the Purchases List. it may be hidden. See this article for details on how to unhide it.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4928
One question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?
iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.

  • The New Photo App Not Syncing Properly

I've been pulling my hair out over the last week or so with the new Photo's in the iCloud and how the online database won't sync properly.
This is how I went about the upgrade.
I have a Mac Mini which has been for the past several years drawing down my family's photo's and video etc from all out devices using iPhoto. This has worked very nicely. I've been adding pictures from my stream into albums etc with about 200 or so. All files are stored locally of course in organized folder which is then back up on to a external drive.
After the latest update I opened the new Photo app and it started to convert my library over and started to upload all the photos, some 15000 pictures and a few hundred videos. I started to check my iPad and iPhone which is where I started to see problems, missing albums, missing photos, duplicates etc. Before anyone asks I emptied my trash in iPhoto before I updated as I had read about the new app pulling all the photos from trash in too.
After several days of stopping and starting my iPhone and iPad looked like it should with my albums and the correct amount of files. I checked the online iCloud Photos through my browser which also match, but I had all the old iPhoto months and daily libraries still showing despite me organizing my libraries not to group the photos in these old style albums.
At this point I also looked back on my Mac Mini to find that all the libraries had totally disappeared and there seemed to be a couple of thousand files missing, ie my ipad, iphone and online coun which is at something like 15,634 files and the Mac Mini Photo app was showing about 13,450. Plus, it was now saying uploading some 24,000 files but was in fact doing nothing.
At this point I decided to turn my main iMac on and see if I could get the databases to pull down from the iCloud to see if it matched. Three days later it's stuck at some 3200 files and saying it's still adding 15,000 files. I then went back on to my Mac Mini and started a fresh version of Photo and it's now stuck in the same state as the iMac saying it's adding file but nothing is changing.
    Please help.

How did you import the photos?
Are the missing photos perhaps referenced? Then they cannot upload to iCloud.
You can check with a smart album, if you have any photos in the library, that cannot upload to iCloud.

  • Flickr integration in the new Photos App in OS X 10.10.3

I had been looking forward to trying out the new Photos app with the newest version of OS X.
Now it has arrived and it is alright, for what it does, but it's not going to be taking over my photo processing.
The one bit where I feel seriously let down is the Flickr integration - in this area it seems to be a big step backwards from iPhoto.
Has anyone else though been struggling to understand how to access Flickr properly through it?
I can upload photos, but I cannot open my Flickr albums to look in there, as I could with iPhoto. Or is there a way of doing this that I am missing?
The upshot of this is that I cannot use my Flickr feed as a screensaver on my mac at the moment... There are hundreds of curated photos that make me happy, of my friends, family, nice memories, trips that I have taken, in an album on Flickr for this very purpose.
Previously I simply set my mac at work, and my one at home, to use the Flickr album as the source for my screensaver, but now that the Flickr album doesn't appear for me in iPhoto, this is not possible.
Has anyone else run across this? Has anyone else come up with a solution?
(Also did anyone else's inner cynic connect this and the screen asking them to sign up for the iCloud photos solution, and if so, did you silence that cynic or give it free reign?)
-crossposted from the Flickr support forums at the suggestion of users there

Okay, the answer for the time-being seems to be to keep using iPhoto for this task.
iPhoto is still in my applications folder (but for how long).
So, I can use iPhoto for managing my Flickr and Photos for everything else.
That's the theory anyway and I'm going to give it a go until and unless a better option presents itself, please do let me know if you have one.

  • The new photos app doesn't show all of the thumbnails for my Photostream photos, how can I make them show?

I recently updated my mid-2010 Macbook Pro 15 inch to 10.10.3 Yosemite and I am now using the new Photos app. My Photostream shows missing thumbnails for more of the recent photos, I let it sit for an hour and they still don't show. Any tips to make the thumbnails show quickly? I have tried disabling photostream and reactivating it which didn't work. The thumbnails do eventually show only if I view each specific photo, but it would take forever to select each one to make the thumbnail show

    Hi,
Thanks for that  tip and I got as far as that as well with Apple Support but for me the subsequent syncing doesn't work.
I have just returned from another visit at the Apple Store where their top level Genius (if such a thing exists) wanted to see it for himself. Rather worryingly, neither he nor Apple head office has an answer for why this isn't working.
To summarise,  I connect my iPhone 6 (all up to date) with my MBA/iTunes via USB cable. The sync tab under the iPhone allows me to sync my photos via USB and I get a dropdown menu to chose from iPhoto or Photos Sync. Both libraries in same location but iPhoto works, but Photos says there are 0 pictures and won't sync...
The Apple genius was going to try it himself tonight at home. He has my number and has promised to phone. In the meantime my question remains. For those of you who do not use the Cloud for storing pictures could you please confirm the sync is working for you as described above. Thanks

  • In the new Photo app 'Projects' will not stay open

    Hi
In the new Photo app. released last week, I can not get the 'projects' to remain open.  It just crashes and closes and actually now , since this afternoon I can not open any of it without it crashing.
    i have a mid 2011 iMac running Yosemite 10.10.3.
i have a few photo books, slideshows and cards in the projects if this helps.
If anyone can help I would really appreciate it, even if its just so I can access the photos.
    Many thanks.

Many people are reporting the project->crash problem.  To the best of my knowledge, there is no fix for it.
For some folks, a temporary workaround is to select View->Sidebar and access the projects *individually*.
Hopefully this will work for you, fairymoo!
Apple's Meta-Problem: Inexplicably, "Photos" is *NOT* listed as an Application Community on the top-level web-site "https://discussions.apple.com/welcome" ... thus plenty of folks (including the poster and me too) have been unable even to find the right community for seeking/posting solutions.
Conclusion: not a smooth roll-out, Apple!   Not least, why is the Photos Community so difficult to locate?

If Preview and Mail’s media browser don’t work, Gary, can you export all the pictures from the new iPhoto package back to folders and use an earlier copy of iPhoto such as 8.1.2?
I have both versions on my system so it may be the Mail and Preview media browsers are not accessing the new iPhoto package.  I thought they were the new version but maybe not; I see a single iPhoto Library icon and when I control-click on it it offers to show the package contents...

  • How to add missing Geotags in the new Photos App?

I have explored the new Photos App extensively but have thus far been unable to find any way to edit/replace/add/remove Geotags to photos that are missing them.  With iPhoto, it was very easy to copy a Geotag from an iPhone-Shot photo to a photo taken with my Canon DSLR.  In fact, I got into the habit of always snapping at least 1 picture with my iPhone to save the location whenever i'd go out shooting with my DSLR so I could later apply the Geotag to the rest of the photos when I got home.  Did Apple remove this critical feature from the new Photos App?

  • Deleted iPhoto Photos showing in the new Photos app

I didn't see a new spot to ask this so I figured I would post it in the iPhoto section.  When my wife and I import to iPhoto we usually delete a bunch of random screenshots, etc.  iPhoto doesn't have them but looking back for some reason the new photos app is showing more photos then iPhoto has.  Anyone else seeing this behavior?

I have to disagree Terence.  It creates a complete copy of the iPhoto database.  I verified this by deleting the iPhotos database and photos worked fine.  It also added 188GB to my crash plan backup and time capsule backup.  I have seen other beta testers say it doesn't but it does in my case.  It also did this with no interaction on my part.
It doesn't. It uses Unix Hard Links  the actual photos, so while both Libraries report 188 gigs or whatever, they are reporting the same 188 gigs. Or put another way, when you deleted the iPhoto Library, did your disk space go up by 188 gigs? Time Machine and CrashPlan don't deal with these links - BTW, an online service like Crashplan for an iPhoto/Aperture/Photos library has a high risk of data corruption.
I can't figure out why the new photos app is showing more photos then my iPhoto had.  It seems to be showing a large chunk of things I previously deleted in iphoto but nothing was in the trash
Your iPhoto Library was corrupted and wasn't cleaning up after deletions properly.
I am not against the new photos app. I want to use it so I hope the Apple Fans don't jump down my throat.
The app either does what you want or doesn't. If it doesn't use another one. For me, it's nowhere near my needs and I have no problem making that decision.

  • Can I use the new Photos app with Lightroom?

I have been a user of Aperture but with the new Photos app I can no longer do that.  Will Lightroom work with the new Photos app?  I want better editing tools than Photos offers.

No, Lightroom and Photos cannot share a Library. They are both Photo Managers (neither is actually an editor) with non-destructive processing. The only way to get from one to another is to export to the Finder then import to the second app. It's hard to see a workflow that encompasses both apps.
Really you need to decide which app you want to use to manage your Photos: Photos is a free app geared at the consumer with a phone or point and shoot. Lightroom is geared for the serious hobbyist or Pro with a DSLR, Which photographer are you? Best to pick one horse and ride it.

  • Can I import and open raw files on the new photo app?

    Hi,
Can I import and open raw files on the new photos app on my ipad?  Does it convert it to jpeg automatically when you want to share them?
    Thanks.

Clem is telling you to click on the View menu, move the pointer down to the item "Metadata," & from its choices make sure "Show Titles" is selected. Do this, then make sure you are in a view in the main window that shows one or more videos (or whatever) that you want to title. Click once on one of them, & if the separate Info window is not open, open that (on the Windows menu or command + i as a keyboard shortcut). In the Info window the top line will be "Add a Title."
Click once on that & type your title.
This works for any item, video or photo.

  • When is the new photo app coming out

when is the new photo app coming out? I have iPhoto, will it be wise to quit using it?

Apple did not yet state a release date, only "early this year".
I have iPhoto, will it be wise to quit using it?
Why should you? Both, Photos and iPhoto, also Aperture can coexist peacefully.
Keep organizing your photos in iPhoto, while giving Photos a trial run. And when you are sure that Photos is what you want migrate your iphoto Libraries. But you may still want to use iPhoto for editing or adding Places to photos and similar.
    So keep it installed.
