  • Where are my important files located in Leopard 10.5?

I had an old file from apple titled "Where are my important files located?" which applied to 10.3. I could not find this same doc for 10.5. It had the location of all the important files for safari, mail, address book, etc. and was handy when I was mirgrating files or backing up or so forth. Is there now an updated file/doc for this with regards to 10.5 Leopard? Or is every important file's location still located in the same location? Thanks

    Hi Teal,
I'm a big "foggy" on a lot of the OS X 10.3 "Panther" stuff but I think you'll find OS X 10.5 to be pretty similar in most regards.
As far as your user information, everything related to your user will be in the /Users/username location. The "Library" folder is probably the most important when it comes to application related data such as Safari, Mail, Address Book, iCal, etc. Some applications will have a folder directly inside the library folder (/Users/Username/Library/ApplicationName) and some will store data in the Application Support folder (/Users/Username/Library/Application Support/ApplicationName)
The important thing, is that all of your user data is stored in the /Users/Username location that will often be represented by a "House" icon when signed into that user.
Where it gets a little tricky, is some applications will store data in the /Users/Shared location and the /Library location. So if you ever do a total system migration there's a possibility you'll need to reinstall some applications. A Time Machine backup can assist with system migrations as it does a full and complete backup of your HD, including the User's home folder.

  • Where are my iWeb files located? My Domain folder is empty but the pages still open in iWeb.

I have a Macbook Pro OSX 10.6.8. iWeb opens all my pages and the website is fine.  When I look for the page files so that i can edit them in Text Edit I cannot find them.
I have searched EVERY file folder etc. on my computer including the Domain folder which shows empty.
So my question is - Where are they and how do I access them?

Download and use  Find Any File  to search for ".sites".  FAF can search areas that Spotlight can't and if you have a second domain file on your HD FAF will find it.
If you want to access the HTML files of your website then you need to publish your website to a folder on your hard drive.  With iWeb 2 that's done with the File ➙ Publish to a Folder menu option.
With iWeb 3 that's done by clicking on the site folder in iWeb and selecting the folder you want to publish toi:

  • Alternative to specify the jar file location other than server classpath.

    Hi,
We use weblogic 8.1 for our development purpose... and mostly work on ejb's. Every time a new ear file is created and deployed we need to specify the jar files needed to run that application in server classpath.... is there any alternate way so that v can avoid specifying these jar files in server classpath...

  • Where are my edited files located?

I recently needed to make room on my PC so I transferred my entire Pictures folder onto my external hard drive. Apparently any photos I had edited in CS5 then saved in Lightroom were moved and I cannot find where they are saved to locate in Lightroom. When I click on them in Lightroom it just says "This folder cannot be found". Its only for photos edited in both Lightroom and CS5, any that were only in Lightroom can be found on my external hard drive where I backed them up, I'm only looking for files with "edit" in them (e.g. _DSC6181-edit.tif). Any help in finding these files that were apprently moved would be great, thanks!

There are no edited files. Lightroom stores all the adjustments in the catalog. It applies those adjustments to the image whenever you choose that image in Lightroom. Since you moved all of your images to the external hard drive, that is where they are located. And you are going to have to go through the process of linking everything up again.

  • Where are saved state files located?

A presentation that I've worked on for several hours won't open.  The last time it did open, it crashed and that seems to have destroyed the document.
I've been hoping that maybe an Auto-save of a previous version might have been created.  I didn't have Time Machine running at the time (I was OOTO), so I'm hoping that the auto-save feature might save me.  However, I cannot find the location for where these files are stored.
Does anyone know where to look?
    Any help would be appreciated.

To the best of my knowledge, iMovie simply links to the music file from wherever it is located in your system. That could be the iTunes Library, your Desktop, an external drive, or other places. So if you move the music to a different location, I assume that iMovie will lose track of it. iMovie doesn't actually import the music to the project - it's just referencing it (as far as I'm aware).
If you know the name of the track (or tracks, or artists), try doing a search both within iTunes and on your hard drive using Spotlight. If found, the best solution is probably to drag it again into your project, then do the necessary edits if applicable.
Note that, in iMovie the music tracks are identified by song name - it's shown at the beginning of the green audio bar. So the songs shouldn't be too difficult to track down. It's just a pain having to re-instate them.

  • Where are webutil  htm files located?

    Hello,
I am doing tests with webutil with Ids9.
According to the documentation - I am supposed to find 3 htm files (webutiljini.htm,webutiljpi.htm,webutilbase.htm) in the server directory of webutil, but I can only find webutiljini.htm.
Any idea where the other ones are hiding ?
    Thanks -

This is the bug in the doc. Since we only support with Jinit at the moment, there is only one file.

  • Where are iOS update files located on my Mac in Lion?

Since Lion I can't seem to find the iOS update files on my Mac.  Which leads to my next question can I delete the latest update 4.3.5 and redownload it for a restore?
    Thanks,
    Bryan

Thank you!  I did not know where to find the migrated files either.  I had lots of user folders to look through but finally found the one with my Pc data in it.  Dragging it to the desktop enabled me to access my files and drag them into my Mac Folders.

  • My iTunes is corrupted. Where are my music files located?

Hello! My iTunes in Win8 has become corrputed and won't start. I get an error msg which says that "iTunes Library.itf cannot be read by a newer version". What do I do? Worse yet, I cannot find any of my music files. I have a lot. perhaps 2,500 different individual items, but I don't know what file extension they are, nor what subdirectory they are in.
It would be several days' work to reload every single CD (I don't want to go there!).
Does anyone on the list have any suggestions as to how I can get iTunes reloaded or fixed?

You must use itunes to sync.

  • Where are the audio files located?

You know how when your video source is missing, it shows that ! with a yellow triangle around it? Then, when you hover over the !, it shows you where iMovie expected to find the video, and then you can just move the video there and it's fixed. But for audio, it doesn't show you where it is supposed to be located when you hover over the ! in the audio file (music green bar).
So, where are the music files supposed to be located so that it can find them?
    Thanks!

They are all stored in the iPhoto Library.  You would need to examine its contents to see them separately (outside of iPhoto).

  • Where are the actual Aperture files located? Only in the application? I am transitioning to Lightroom and would like to only move some of the files. Advice appreciated. Also anyone know how to transfer in with edits?

Where are the actual Aperture files located? Only in the application? I am transitioning to Lightroom and would like to only move some of the files. Advice appreciated. Also anyone know how to transfer in with edits? Using iMac, OS X, most recent Aperture and Lightroom 5.7 with plugin for Aperture.

    Define "the Aperture files".
    Read this concise guide.
The files you imported into an Aperture Library can be exported (at any time, and repeatedly) using the command "File ▹ Export ▹ Originals".  Your Originals are never altered.  What went in is what comes out.
Adjustments and changes to the metadata that you made since creating an Image in Aperture by importing a file are saved to a text file.  This file is combined, on-the-fly, with the Original to create the Image that you see in Aperture.  There is no file saved to disk that is the full-size Image.  Thumbnails are saved, and Previews are saved.  These are JPG files, almost always smaller than the Original.  They are not substitutes for the Image for the use you have.
When you need a file of an Image to use in another program, you export the Image from Aperture.  "Export" means "Make me a file of this Image according to these file specs I'm providing".  The way to get files of your adjusted Images is simple:  create them by exporting.  Specify "Original size", and use a loss-less image-file format (e.g. TIFF 16-bit) if you want to retain as much visual information as possible.
Search the Web for information about transitioning from Aperture to Lightroom.  Note that I say "transitioning".  You cannot move a database from one format to another without significant changes, and likely some loss of information.  Adobe provides a tool and some instructions.  I strongly recommend working out the process step-by-step, and then proceeding with first a few Images, then a bushel-ful, and stopping to use the first few, the the bushel-ful, before committing your entire collection to the process.
As always, never use any computer file without having a back-up.
We have seen mixed reports here of the success of the LR tool that creates a LR database from your Aperture database.
If you want to carefully define the process, and test and refine it, use the excellent process-development, analysis, and execution program inShort.
Sadly, there is not and can never be a good, thorough re-positioning of the digital assets in your Aperture Library to become digital assets in a LR database.  Just as a metaphor for any user contemplating transitioning to another digital asset manager:  that would be like digging up a house in one country, planting it in a hole in another country, and expecting to be able to use the toilet and the sinks, turn on the lights, cook dinner, and sleep soundly.
    HTH,
    Kirby.
