Where are the new iMacs Shipping From

Hey everyone. I ordered mine thursday, BTO:
Better 17", 2GB RAM, 2.0Ghz Intel core 2 duo.
Any Idea where it will be shipping from? I ordered a bunch of other stuff with it, and that stuff is shipping from all over the country.
Thanks

I didn't know that, Glor. All Macs I have seen shipped that were BTOs came direct from China. Apple does has distributors here that ship the stock configurations out of course, but I was not aware of local distrbution points for BTOs as well.
I have never heard of a locally shipped BTO from anyone on these discussions.
Did any of yours come from local sources? Just curious as mine came from China.

  • How much faster are the new iMacs from my older Macpro?

Anyone have any idea how much faster a new iMac would be than my older Macpro? Please see attached image. Thanks!

There are a number of benchark tests for the new iMacs. A quick Google search found:

  • How much fast are the new iMac's?

I've been looking at upgrading my G5 PowerMac for a while and now Apple has just updated the iMac. How much faster are the new models over the just superseded ones and my G5 (spec below).
I mainly us it for my work with Photoshop CS2 and the G5 does a great job most of the time but is showing it's age. I was looking at the 2nd model but for not much more you can get the 27inch screen with better upgrade options.

    Hi Craig,
even the very first 2006 released Intel iMacs were faster than the G5 iMacs including yours.
    See this Barefeats test http://www.barefeats.com/imcd3.html
Check additional tests on Barefeats on older iMacs against newer ones http://www.barefeats.com/
The new 2010 iMacs of any sort run circles around the 2006 iMacs, so you are in for a very pleasant surprise

  • So how are the new iMacs? (Reviews, sightings, etc)

I've been scouring the 'Net for any information about the new Intel iMacs, but hardly a peep from anyone that I've seen. I'm specifically looking for information on the new 24, but any info will do.
    Are they quiet? Fast?
How are the screens? Are they too big (yeah, right). I read here [http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=3080026&#3080026] that the screens are dark on the sides. Isolated issue?
How do the internal speakers/bigger amp sound? I'm looking to get rid of mine to free up desk space and I'd like to confidently be able to put them into storage.
I've already ordered mine last week (second Mac to own, first iMac), but I'm waiting on it to ship, as it's a BTO with everything upgraded except the RAM is only 2G. This wait is killing me! There is little info on these new Macs. Please, someone post at least a first impression introductory review.
Any info/pics that anyone can share would be greatly appreciated. I've set up RSS with Flickr, Digg, Google news and the iMac discussions and I've seen 3 different 24" unpacking photo sets with what seems to be cell phone quality snapshots and 0 reviews.
Someone fill us in and post some quality shapshots so we can see how big this thing is!

    Michael,
Sorry to hear about that however once Apple ships the product it's in the hands of the shipper and Apple loses all control the same as Dell, HP, Acer etc... All the manufacturer's go to great lengths to ensure machines are packaged adequately so they can take the rigors shippers put them through however there are always going to be individual cases where contents are damaged. For example most computer manufactures make their packaging so the computers can be dropped from 10 or more feet onto a concrete floor. However there is no way they can protect a box if it's kicked in or crushed.
If she bought the computer from Apple's online store simply call AppleCare, explain the issue and they will arrange for a replacement. If it was purchased from another vendor and shipped to you then you will have to deal with that vendor's return policy.
Either way it's a shame and I'm sorry it happened to you and your daughter but rest assured it's a rare exception.

    Roger

  • Where are the iPhoto files separate from the program?

    Hi.
I am running iPhoto 8.1 in Leopard 10.5.6 on my early 2008 MacBook Pro 15".
I want to "backup" my iPhoto files. How I used to do this before Leopard, was to go into Pictures and find my iPhoto folder and there, I would find all the folders of my imports from my camera, numbered and in order by years, also. I would them just drag and drop each folder into Toast, and when it reached a DVD volume, I would burn a disc.
Now, in Leopard, I cannot find the iPhoto Files Folder. Every way I have tried to access it, I end up with iPhoto and when i click, it opens the program. SO what I have is the open program with the photos in the events.
How do I find and Where is the iPhoto Files Folder.
    Thank you.
    Waiting for your replies!

How I used to do this before Leopard, was to go into Pictures and find my iPhoto folder and there,
This has nothing to do with Leopard or the Operating System.
With iPhoto 7 (iLife 08) the old iPhoto Library Folder became a Package File. This is simply a folder that looks like a file in the Finder. The change was made to the format of the iPhoto library because many users were inadvertently corrupting their library by browsing through it with other software or making changes in it themselves.
Want to look inside? Select the iPhoto Library and right click on it. From the resulting menu select 'Show package Contents'. A Finder window will open with the Library exposed.
Standard Warning: Don't change anything in the iPhoto Library Folder via the Finder or any other application. iPhoto depends on the structure as well as the contents of this folder. Moving things, renaming things or otherwise making changes will prevent iPhoto from working and could even cause you to damage or lose your photos.
I would find all the folders of my imports from my camera, numbered and in order by years, also. I would them just drag and drop each folder into Toast, and when it reached a DVD volume, I would burn a disc.
Any time you access the iPhoto Library via the Finder or any other application you risk damaging the Library.
If you want to burn a back up using Toast then use the Media Browser built in to Toast or any of the following:
There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:
    *For Users of 10.5 Only*
You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Apple-Click for selecting multiple pics.
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
    *For users of 10.4 and 10.5* ...
Many internet sites such as Flickr and SmugMug have plug-ins for accessing the iPhoto Library. If the site you want to use doesn’t then some, one or any of these will also work:
To upload to a site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. However, if you're using Gmail you can use iPhoto2GMail
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
*If you want to access the files with iPhoto not running*:
Create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser
    Other options include:
    1. *Drag and Drop*: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. *File -> Export*: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. *Show File*: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
    Regards

  • When are the new iMacs coming out?

I want to buy a new iMac but I'm not sure if I should wait to get the next revision.  Are they coming out soon?

History has shown us this for the last several iMacs...
21.5" and 27" was introduced in October of 2009
The next revision was July 2010..
You should be able to see the pattern from above. If you look back further for different models you will find other similar patterns.
We never really know for sure until Apple releases the next version.

  • Where is the new iMac touch?

I need a new iMac - but only one with touch :-)

We shouldn't speculate in these columns but I've seen nothing to suggest this is on the horizon.   Moreover, there are suggestions it may not be practical for most people simply because of the angle you would have to sit at.

  • Where are the new symbols?

Yesterday during the live event introduction of Adobe Creative Cloud, one of the team members (can't remember which one) said that there were new symbols included in our membership. He was demonstrating the updated microphone in Photoshop and also for Illustrator. Where are they? I went to add-ons and all I could find was a download for $39.99. Does anyone know where they are?

    gone... bad improvement...

  • Are the new iMacs Merom or Conroe?

Alright so I don't totally care whether my new iMac that is coming is a Merom or a Conroe, but I'd like to know. I can't believe that is anywhere in the specs. Does anyone know? Thanks.

    Hello,
Okay cool. You would think they would put that on the
    spec sheet though...
Well, it is in there, kind-of. The show that the bus speed is lower.
But, they obviously don't want to advertise that they picked the slower of the Core2Duo products. That isn't something that they're going to want to draw attention to.
It really works in their favor that Intel decided to call both products Core2Duo instead of calling the Merom by the Centrino name and Conroe by Core2Duo.
If Intel had kept the distinctive names, Apple would have a harder time convincing us to buy a Centrino-based desktop because it would be very obvious it was being powered by a mobile processor.
But, with Intel calling them both Core2Duo, only the people who really, really care are going to look and see what it is using.
I think they probably are best leaving the details out when it comes to marketing. They still won't sell one to me (I was wanting Conroe). But, they'll sell tons of them to people who only look at the surface and see "Core2Duo".

  • After downloading 4.0 on my Windows XP Firefox continues to work as before but none of the new features is available except for tabs on top. Where are the new features?

Mozilla Firefox Installation Started: 2011-05-01 17:51:37
    Installation Details
    Install Dir: C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
    Locale : en-US
    App Version: 4.0.1
    GRE Version: 2.0.1
    OS Name : Windows XP
    Target CPU : x86
    ==========================================
The next time I started Firefox, the tabs were at the top but none of the other advertised new features for 4.0 have ever appeared, such as the Firefox button, ability to group tabs, etc. I even downloaded 4.0 two times, with the same result both times. I would really like to be able to use the new features. Thank you for your help.

    See [[What are Tab Groups?]]
    Other things you can do:<br><br>
    * Right click a blank part of the tab bar and click "Tabs on top" to remove the checkmark. Tabs will subsequently reappear below the search bar.<br><br>
    * Repeat the same steps, but click the top one called "Menu bar". This will reinstate the text links at the top. If you already have these, reverse the procedure to get the orange Firefox button<br><br>
    * To rearrange the layout, repeat the same steps again and choose "Customize". A panel will open and while that remains onscreen, you can move elements like toolbars, buttons etc around and place them anywhere you wish. You can also drag anything you don't like into that panel and add anything you want by dragging it out of there.<br><br>

  • Where are the reconstruct mode options from liquify in cs6?? please help

I m in advanced mode but can only see reconstruction as original? Thanx

    Hi jworthin
Thank you very much for your answer which sounds like a disaster to me, but it looks like there's still hopes ; )
I think you did an amazing job on cs6; I only have it since a couple of days but I really love it
So far the new saving method and autorecover is priceless.
I m not sure about propagation mode (mine is in french and that's how it's written in cs4) but I guess it's the smooth mode which i always used to partially correct some areas in order to avoid the pixel deplacement and stretch that makes your morphing so not pro...
The current reconstruct tool is only based on history, so let's say you want to make a girl pregnant and displace a lot her belly, then before I was using the reconstruct tool in smooth mode and would brush on the displaced belly to avoid those totally stretched pixels; now if I pass with current reconstruct what will appear is a hole whith the background or orignal belly...not sure i m very good at explanations and english is not my language...
Anyways I run a retouching studio and wanted to test cs6 before getting new licences; now the problem is I love it but can't use the liquify tool for a professionnal work without this reconstruct features so I really hope it will come back in an upgrade pleassssse !!!
Also I just found out something weird: when pressing F for full screen, color changes like it would be a different profile; the correct color being only shown in standard mode ??
This happens with a workstation of 3 screens based on windows7 64 pro but there's no problem with a mac on 1 screen ?
Thank you so much for your help
    Best
Edit: concerning the full screen problem, I ve found out what's wrong or looks like a bug, it only happens if "graphic card acceleration" is clicked...

  • Mobile Device Management solutions for K-8 school, where are the new iOS 7 features?

    Hi all,
I work at a K-8 school and we are using Meraki by Cisco as our Mobile Device Management solution.  This seems to be working just fine but with the release of iOS 7 we are trying to figure out how to use all of the new features included pertaining to MDM.  We have about 300 iPad 2s deployed.
The teachers would love to be able to use free apps and, using Apple's VPP, paid apps.  Right now we have to manually enter any redemption code into Meraki and then on each and every iPad log in using the Apple ID and password associated with the license purchased.  I am aware, via several sources, that Apple now allows you to "silently" install apps.  How can we do this? Anyone have any other tips to help in the deployment of the apps with the new iOS 7 features?
    Thanks,
    Scott

    Found one on best buy
    http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Belkin+-+Grip+Neon+Glo+Case+for+Apple%26%23174%3B+iP od%26%23174%3B+touch+5th+Generation+-+Pink/1331013.p?id=1219050712926&skuId=1331 013
by Belkin, so a place to start.
They're a lot more expensive, but Griffin has some of their 'survivor' cases with sealed ports, so you could cover up the ones you don't need.
If best buy isn't an option for you, at least there's a manufacturer to look for.

  • Where Did the New Calendar Come From?

I just upgrade my MacBook Pro to Leopard. All calendars seemed to come over properly. But this AM, one day after the upgrade, I see a *new calendar* that I did not create, called "Library Loans." Does anybody know what the heck that is? It's not a "subscription." It's an item in the calendars list in the left-hand pane.
My inclination was simply to delete it, but then I thought -- what if it has events attached? What if it's evidence of a virus?
So those are my questions -- how do I see what events are in this calendar? And should I delete it if it's empty? Or somehow investigate further.
Thanks very much to anyone who can help.
    Steve Cohen

I think that the "Library Loans" calendar is automated from another program you have on your computer called "Delicious Library" for checking out DVD's Music, etc. At least that is what I found! You are not supposed to delete the calendar, but I did once before I knew what it was. Delicious automatically created a new calendar the next time something was checked out (the return dates are set and posted to the calendar when items are checked out).
    Hope that helps!

  • Where are the .java files compiled from .jsp files stored?

              hi,
I'm new to weblogic server. When I use Tomcat as the jsp server, it compiles .jsp
files to .java files and then .class files. So when an error reported I can track
              it in the .java file.
But what should I do with weblogic? It only saves the .class files in the work
dir. Or is there a better way to trace errors in jsp files?
              Thanks!

This should give you the information you need to set the keepgenerated flag:
              http://e-docs.bea.com/wls/docs60/jsp/admin.html#53346
Also, the .java files will be right next to the .class files with are under
a tmp directory in the /WEB-INF directory under the WEB-INF if it is an open
              directory or in the
              config/mydomain/applications/.wl_temp_do_note_delete/WEB-INF directory if it
              is .war file.
