Where are the update files located?

Hi. We have five Macs around here: two Tigers, two Panthers, and a Jaguar. It's a royal pain to have to download the update files individually for each machine. Can somebody tell me where the update files are stored, so we can save time and bandwidth on updates by copying and/or running the updates from one machine to another?

Seems you never use SU to download, before.
It took me a little while to decide whether to be offended by this or not...
I take it you mean that SU, had I downloaded to disk without installing, would have created the directory in question, but since I had not used this option the directory has not yet been created so it was not there.
Thank you for the tip. I am, even as we speak, downloading the appropriate update files to my Jaguar machine's desktop (the interface is a bit different, but I now know what to look for heh heh). For future updates I shall do the same.
Many thanks...:)
Matt

They are all stored in the iPhoto Library.  You would need to examine its contents to see them separately (outside of iPhoto).

  • Where are the audio files located?

You know how when your video source is missing, it shows that ! with a yellow triangle around it? Then, when you hover over the !, it shows you where iMovie expected to find the video, and then you can just move the video there and it's fixed. But for audio, it doesn't show you where it is supposed to be located when you hover over the ! in the audio file (music green bar).
So, where are the music files supposed to be located so that it can find them?
    Thanks!

To the best of my knowledge, iMovie simply links to the music file from wherever it is located in your system. That could be the iTunes Library, your Desktop, an external drive, or other places. So if you move the music to a different location, I assume that iMovie will lose track of it. iMovie doesn't actually import the music to the project - it's just referencing it (as far as I'm aware).
If you know the name of the track (or tracks, or artists), try doing a search both within iTunes and on your hard drive using Spotlight. If found, the best solution is probably to drag it again into your project, then do the necessary edits if applicable.
Note that, in iMovie the music tracks are identified by song name - it's shown at the beginning of the green audio bar. So the songs shouldn't be too difficult to track down. It's just a pain having to re-instate them.

  • Where are the memory files located?

I backed up all my premiere pro cs4 files when reinstalling my operating system and now can't get the program to run exactly as before.  Other than my documents, where else are the memory files stored?

If you mean documents and settings/adobe/premiere pro/4.0  ..those files are written when the program installs onto your computer. They are related to installation of other things in your registry of the Operating system...
Basically you are looking at having to re-install your premiere program, but first I would delete those files that you stuck in there...
What you tried to do can't be done, is the bottom line...

  • Where are the image files located?

hey guys, my book is 75 mb and I can only guess that it's because my images are Too big. I don't know how to get the file sizes down because I replaced them but they must still be retained in the image folder because when I look at the size its 75mb. Does anyone know where the images are located?

Finding out where the images are held doesn't really help – here's why:
iBA a files aren't really document files – they're more like zipped folders. iBA does a whole heap of background stuff to make the book work. When you drag an or import an image into iBA, it gets filed into a certain place within that folder structure, and presumably 'logs' that location in some xml-type wizardry somewhere else in that folder structure.
Because of this, it's not a great idea to muck around with any of that stuff - it often makes things worse, not better.
As for image size - as Vinny said - all you can do is make the images 2048 x 1536 if you want view them full screen. That looks best on a Retina display, as almost all iPads being sold now are.
I don't know what your intentions are with the project, but in my experience, 75Mb pretty small. Is 75Mb the iBA file or an exported .ibooks file? Once a book gets exported to .ibooks format, the file size comes down. The iBA files I have worked on are much larger – the smallest being about 975Mb, going up to about 3.25Gb.

  • Where are the *.ini files located?

I remember a discussion about deleting some of the *.ini files (or whatever they are called) but I can't find the link, don't remember the filenames and can't find their location.
I'm having the same problem with Media Encoder where it only goes partway through an encode and then returns an error message. The last time I experienced that, I deleted the startup files and things worked fine. I think that there was a link from Dennis Draeke about some config files and their location.
    All help gratefully accepted!
    TIA,

After experiencing the situation where a codec (LEAD MJPG) that had worked previously suddenly would not export through AME again, I tracked down the preferences files as outlined above and removed the following files:
    Adobe Premiere Pro Prefs,
    Adobe Premiere Pro Prefs~2
    AMEPrefs.xml
And once again I could export with any codec settings I chose with no problems.
    I'm working with 1280x720, 30P, square pixels, 44.1kHz, 16-bit stereo material.
When not working, the encode would proceed about 1/2- to 2/3 of the way through and then stop and return the message:
    - Preset Used: 1280x720P TX-1 Settings - LEAD Codec
    - Video: 1280x720, 30 [fps], Progressive, Quality 90
    - Audio: 44100 Hz, Stereo, 16 bit
    - Bitrate:
    - Encoding Time: 00:15:27
    4/10/2010 2:56:50 PM : Encoding Failed
    Error compiling movie.
    Codec compression error.
This codec may be unable to support the requested frame size, or there may be a hardware or memory problem.
After removing those three files, encoding would finish properly and return the message:
      - Preset Used: 1280x720P TX-1 Settings - LEAD Codec
    - Video: 1280x720, 30 [fps], Progressive, Quality 90
    - Audio: 44100 Hz, Stereo, 16 bit
    - Bitrate:
    - Encoding Time: 00:03:09
    4/11/2010 1:39:31 PM : File Successfully Encoded
    4/11/2010 1:39:31 PM : Queue Stopped
Thought I'd post the results in case it might help help someone solve a problem.

  • Where are the update file downloaded on Mac iTunes?

I'd like to know where iTunes does put the iPhone update file, because I suspect the one it downloaded for version 2.0 of OS is not good as at the "verifying the iPhone software" state of the update, iTunes reported "error -6" and the iPhone passed in DFU mode.
So I would like it to re-download it, and for that I think I need to remove the already downloaded file, no?
EDIT: I found it. FYI, it's in ~/Library/iTunes/iPhone Software Updates/

Thanks for the help! They were exactly where you said. I just navigated to the folder as you described and had to look through each one until the folder with the Reminders showed up. (Specifically, I had to go through the .caldav folder). I hope this helped the other person as well.
By the way, do you know how to make the Reminders show up again in the completed list? I tried copying them into the real Reminders folder on my Mac, but they don't appear in the actual app. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that they were orginally deleted. But either way, I can still see the dates.
    Thanks once again.

  • Where are the edited files located in Lightroom?

I want to be able to use my edited files in InDesign but the only way I know how to do it is to export them to a folder in the finder. This poses a couple of problems. For one it doubles the amount of disk space I use and perhaps more importantly it will not bring the changes I make in Lightroom over to InDesign. Does anyone know where Lightroom saves the edited files after they have been edited in Lightroom?

I don't know InDesign, so your mileage may possibly vary, but I don't get involved in formal LR exports and imports when editing with other apps.  What I do when I need to use another editing app in addition to LR is right-click the image in LR and select Edit In... and pick the app I want to use.*
I'm given three choices for the other app:  Edit a Copy With Lightroom Adjustments (the choice you want in your example), Edit Copy (start over, ignoring what I've done in Lightroom), Edit Original (ditto, but BZZT! not a great idea, to me at least).
The file opens in the other app (and also in Lightroom, as a copy) in the default file format that app is set to use, such as .tif, assumed here.  I make the edits I want there, and then I Save the image again within that app.  That saves the app-edited .tif copy back to the Windows folder being used by Lightroom for the imported .dng Lightroom image files. Note also that there is now a second copy of the image that appears in the Lightroom filmstrip, adjacent to the right side of the .dng image, that is the .tif file and reflects all the edits in the other app. I can make further edits within Lightroom to the .tif (or to the .dng file without the app edits), but in the .tif file, I now can't undo any changes made before I saved in the other app.  Those edits, including the Lightroom edits before opening in the other app, have now become destructive edits in that .tif file.  (This is why I recommend working with a copy, not the original.)  If I need to undo something LR did before I went to the other app, I delete the .tif file and start over with the .dng.
When I'm done editing from LR (I let LR manage the final edited copy), I can Export that .tif file with any additional edits LR made, Print from within LR, etc.
*If you can't see the app you want to use when you select Edit In, go in LR to Edit>Preferences>External Editing tab, and under Additional External Editor, click the Choose button and navigate to the .exe file for the app you want to use.  You also set the file format and other preferences there. Save your new preference with the OK button, and right-clicking will bring the other app up in LR as an Edit In option.

  • Where are the project files located on the hard drive

does anyone know where on my hard drive I can find the imovie project files. In the itunes under imovie it shows two projects but they are not on my ipad in the app. how do i delete them if they don't show up when using the imovie app.
    Thanks
    Roger

If you see a project in itunes (in the apps tab, and then File Sharing),
you can import it into iMovie iOS from the main screen.
Open iMovie on your device and go to the projects screen, if it isn’t already showing, by tapping My Projects in the upper-left corner above the viewer.
On the screen, tap the Import button , and tap the name of the project you want to import. When the import is complete, the project opens and can be edited like any other project.
Have a read of this helpful manual that explains the in and outs of iMovie iOS:
    http://help.apple.com/imovie/ipad/1.2/index.html#
This explains in more detail about getting projects in and out of iMovie iOS.
