Where are your users developing shared dashboards?

Hi,
I'm wondering how other organizations handle dashboard and report development in OBIEE.  Do you allow your users to modify their shared dashboards and reports in production?  Or do they make their changes in another environment (TEST, DEV, etc) which later get promoted/copied to production?  If they are making changes in production, are your users accepting that a shared dashboard they use might change without notice?
I'm just trying to get an idea of best practices.
Thanks,
Tony

Hi Tony,
This is quite an interesting point to think about. To me, the best practice is
1. Allocate everybody a shared folder in production (In other words in OBIEE; My Shared Folder), so they could develop their own content at will.
2. As most of the organizations do have a BI development team  (If not, at least a support team!!), hand over the control to them to publish these dashboards to a wider audience, if the users believe they have quite some intelligent dashboards that are shareable.
This particular process has quite some benefits; For ex
1. A quick look by the BI team to understand the content developed and analyze if this is quite reasonable.
2. With data level restrictions in place, the users' content might not be really shareable with other users.
3.Let the BI team tune the reports if needed, just to make sure they scale under heavy loads.
and many more..
Do let me know if you have any different perspective.

  • Where are the users startup items physically located?

    Hi all
I messed around with my login items as I had a startup problem (very slow startup). I 've deleted the Microsoft AU Deamon, now I want to reinstall it from a backup - but where is the thing???
Where are the users login items physically located?
    Thanks

Where are the users login items physically located?
The physical login item process could be located any where. Your ~/Library/Preferences/loginwindow.plist initiates login applications or processes.

Where are Photoshop User Customized Workspaces Saved?

not right in front of me right now, but in documents and settings\yourusername\application data\adobe.... somewhere in there is a folder called something like "workspace settings". you need to have view hidden files and folders and view system files turned on in explorer's tools menu to view the application data folder structure.

  • Where are the canned reports and dashboards?

I assume I'm missing something obvious here. I'm walking through the installation guide for Informatica users, and that all seems to be working out. I've also done the configuration of the OBIEE repository and loaded that in, so I see the metadata and all the tables/joins etc. But I thought there were canned reports and dashboards included -- where are they? I don't see them mentioned in the documentation and figure there should be a more obvious way to find them than looking at all the directories in the installation...
So... can someone point me in the right direction?
    Thanks!

    Hi
The canned reports /dashboards are in the catalog. on the machine where you installed BI application, OracleBIData\web\catalog
you will find EnterpriseBusinessAnalytics.zip, then unzip this file and update the instanceconfig.xml and restart the presentation services.
    thx

  • Where are my User Loops in Finder?

I want to edit some tags and names of my third-party loops ... however I don't have a User Loops folder in the same location along all the Jam Packs and other Apple Loops in the folder Library/Audio/Apple Loops/Apple/
I can see/hear/play my third-party loops in the Loop Browser in Logic Pro X, but I can't find the AIFF and WAV files anywhere in my Finder folders ... seaching by loop file names doesn't bring any of them up either?
This is getting frustrating. Any suggestions where I might find my User Loops?

Your user loops are  in your user library, which has been kept hidden by default since OS X 7 (Lion).
To access your User Library, use the Finders' Go menu, then press alt and you'll see your User lib destination be added to the dropdown. Choose it.
You can also make your user lib permanently visible (meaning it will also be included in Spotlight searches) via the Terminal application:
    Make the Library Visible Permanently
Apple hides the Library folder by setting a file system flag associated with the folder. Any folder on your Mac can have its visibility flag turned on or off; Apple just chose to set the Library folder's visibility flag to the off state. To reset the visibility flag, do the following:
    Launch Terminal, located at /Applications/Utilities.
Enter the following command at the Terminal prompt:
    chflags nohidden ~/Library
Once the command is executed, you can quit Terminal. The Library folder will now be visible in the Finder.
Should you ever wish to set the Library folder back to its default hidden state in OS X Lion, simply launch Terminal and issue the following Terminal command:
    chflags hidden ~/Library

  • Where are all the Develop Presets located?

In the Develop Preset folder (Vista: C:\Users\Howie\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Lightroom\Develop Presets) there are only a few presets listed instead of all the creative and sharpening presets as seen in the Quick Develop "saved preset" drop down. Where are all the other presets located?
Note: my goal is to look at each creative preset to see just what settings are being applied.

Don - that is not what he is asking.
Howie - I have no idea where they are stored on Windows - from a quick exploration I guess they are in the Application .exe file. On the Mac you can get into this, but I'm not sure you can on a PC
However the simplest thing to do is Apply a Preset and Note what is does in the Develop Module. That will be what the Preset is trying to do.
Alternatively Apply the Preset and Create a New Preset with a Different Name, it will have the same settings.

  • Where are all the files shared from Motion 5?

When I share the compositions I create in Motion with Apple Devices (PCs and Macs, 1920x1080p), they show up in iTunes. But they are not available in finder after some time. Where have they gone?

When you export with "Add to iTunes" unchecked, what is the location you are saving to?
The file should be in the location you select unless you (or someone else) moves or deletes it.
Does the "Show in Finder" option in iTunes not take you to the media?
If it is working, you should be able to access the media and then do what you need with it.
Are there any other details (steps, configuration, etc.) you can share?  Since we can't see your computer it's difficult to know what is happening without as much information as possible.

  • Where are your iMovie '08 creations? I would like to explore them.

I would love to see your iMovie '08 productions. I know they have them for iWeb '08 and find them educational for seeing what is possible. The only thing I would ask is that when people have used third party applications to modify the work, that they identify it so that I wouldn't be scratching my head trying to figure out how a certain terrific feature was made.
So is there any such list of iMovies '08 made by you all? I hope.

  • Where is the User Group stored

    Hi all
I have a question about the User Groups.
I want to know where are the User Groups and their information stored in Business Objects.
Is there a system table from where I can access/pull this information.
    Thanks.

    Hello,
You can use the Query Builder (on the BusinessObjects Administration Launchpad under Administrative Tools) to query the CMS database.
The following query would return some details of all user groups in your system:
    SELECT
    SI_NAME, SI_DESCRIPTION, SI_ID, SI_ALIASES, SI_GROUP_MEMBERS
    FROM
    CI_SYSTEMOBJECTS
    WHERE
    SI_KIND = 'usergroup'
You can find documentation on querying the CMS in the Developer Library:
