That's why Apple Store works in every country. The only way you can get your warranty working is by sending it back to the US so they can send a replacement or do whatever they need to do. Get it to your closest Apple Store
From https://www.apple.com/legal/warranty/
Apple may restrict warranty service for iPhone and iPad to the country where Apple or its Authorized Distributors originally sold the device.
Edit: "If you seek service in a country that is not the original country of purchase, you will comply with all applicable import and export laws and regulations and be responsible for all custom duties, V.A.T. and other associated taxes and charges. Where international service is available, Apple may repair or replace Apple Products and parts with comparable Apple Product and parts that comply with local standards."

  • Invalid b-tree node and the disk can't be repaired.  Is it worth the reformat or is the hard drive trashed?  This is a Mac mini, I've had it since 2010 and already had to replace the hard drive once.

Swapped out the monitor on my Mac mini tonight and it wouldn't start back up.  Managed to boot off the install disk and run disk utility, which gave the invalid b tree node error.  Wasn't able to repair the disk, suggested a reformat.  Is this worth my time?  Or is the disk toasted?  I got it in 2010, it's out of warranty and has already had the hard drive replaced once.  Thanks!

If you want to save the data from the drive, Phoenix might be able to copy (clone) it off on another volume. You can check it out at:
    http://scsc-online.com/Phoenix.html
Phoenix does a file copying cloning, not block copy cloning, so a new index is generated on the drive when the copy is being made. If none of the files got lost, meaning just the index is screwed up, I would think this would work.
Regarding the hard drive an index problem isn't a hard drive problem. That hard drive may be in perfect working order, especially since it's fairly new.

Take a photo of the losing parts and send it to  ifixit.com
They will advise you what to get replaced.
or you can bring it to Apple store (you need a booking slot) and get a quote.

  • I don't have many files, or many large applications on my MacBook Pro. 13'' with a 320 gb hard drive. However, Activity Monitor says I'm using almost half of it. What can I do to clean out the hard drive and keep only the files that I actually use?

I'm curious if there's a "defragging" or "cleaning" service available from Apple that I can use to take back some of my hard drive space.

Here are some links with information and caveats.

  • My MacBook was stolen and I am curious if the hard drive can be transferred from my stolen Mac to another one and the thief still have access to my personal things such as photos?

My MacBook Pro was stolen recently. I have the Find My Device app on but if the thief doesn't connect to wifi can he still access my photos? Also, can he switch my hard drive into a different computer/Mac and still have access to my photos, iTunes, iCloud, passwords, etc?

He can do whatever he chooses now that he has the Mac. Including removing the drive from it (or just accessing it normally). If he is experienced he will know how to reset the password or create a new account on it.
You should be worrying about all the personal data, are your credit card numbers on the machine, bank accounts, charge accounts. All are now compromised.

  • I recently bought my first mac and am wondering if my external hard drive that I used with my pc will be compatible?

I know that it will not be formatted for a mac, so does that mean I will be able to pull up information but not change or add to the content at all?

    MelK1983 wrote:
    How do I know that?
Use Disk Utility which can be found in Applications - Utilities.  Select the external drive in the left-hand sidebar and info will appear at the bottom of the window, including formatting information.

  • Recently bought a new Macbook pro...want to swap hard drives with my old macbook pro

I recently bought a new Macbook Pro:
    13 in, 2.5 GHz Intel core i5
    8 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
    500 GB HD
Intel HD Graphics 4000 512 MB
    Mid 2012 model
I'd like to install the 750 GB HD (with Bootcamp Windows 7 install) from my old macbook pro into my new macbook pro.
Here are the old computer's stats:
    13 in, 2.3 GHz Intel Core i5
    4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
750 GB (This is a WD I bought and upgraded myself into the old computer)
Intel HD Graphics 300 384 MB
    Early 2011 model.
My question is this: the guy at the tech shop said he didn't think swapping out the hard drives would work because the 750 GB HD in the old machine would have the drivers, etc. installed for that architecture. I think he might be wrong.
My question is this: if i were to swap out the 750 GB HD from the old machine, would I experience any issue in running both Mac OS X 10.8.3 and Windows 7? Or is homeboy right -- is this architecture too different?

That is normally the case, however Apple has been known to include the drivers for all previous models that can run that version of OS X when a software update occurs.
One way to find out is to remove the 750GB out of the old machine and use a SATA to USB adapter cable to the new Mac, then reboot holding the option key down for Startup Manager, which the external drive should appear as a bootable option, click the arrow and see what happens.
Even if it does boot, there is a issue of copy protected apps (and free iLife) not being compatible with that new machine. So you might want to test that for awhile and update etc., before doing a actual hard drive swticheroo.
Install/upgrade RAM or storage drive in Mac's
If it doesn't work, you can use Migration Assistant in the Utlities folder and it will move all your apps and files from OS X. (using the SATA to USB adapter)
A paid program called WinClone 3 that runs in OS X can clone your Windows partition to the new BootCamp parttion on the 500GB drive.
Windows will complain because it's on new hardware, so you will have to jump through Redmond hoops.

I had files stored on a hard drive that were not on my Mac. I used the hard drive for my first Time Machine back up, but it was not enough hard drive space to finish. Now those stored files are gone. Is there any way I can recover them?  No, they were not part of previous Time Machine backups, and I have checked both the hard drive the documents were lost on and the new one that I now use for backups. Any suggestions would be helpful, as the lost files are old pictures that are gone forever. :[ Thanks!

    1. Yes, if both drives are formatted as Mac OS Extended (Journaled).
    2. Reformat the drives if needed, open the Time Machine pane of System Preferences, and remove the drive with the pictures from the list of items set to be excluded.

  • HT1923 hi, my mac air is really low on disk space, can i remove iTunes (which is huge) to an external hard drive to free up space and then just run it from the hard drive. instead of taking space on the mac? even if the mac no longer has enough to accommo

Hi, my mac air is really low on disk space, can I remove itunes (which is huge) to an external hard drive to free up space?...and then run it from the hard drive instead of the mac, even if the mac no longer has space to accomodate the size of the library?

    Yes.
Copy your music iTunes Library folder to the external drive and change the Advanced settings in iTunes to point to this new location.
Once you're happy with these changes you can delete the same Library from your User account to free up space on the internal drive.

  • I have a quicktime movie on a hard drive, and I have the hard drive plugged into my macbook, and the quicktime movie is not opening, its just a black screen. How do I convert it to the right file so I can watch it ?

I have quicktime movie files on a hard drive, and normally when I plug the hard drive into my computer, I can open the quicktime files and watch them. Now when I am doing it, the quicktime movies are opening up with a black screen. How do i convert it to be in the right format to be able to watch ?

I plugged my old drive into an identical Vostro and saved my bookmarks per the instructions. Later, when I check the file, it was in html format. While waiting for the replacement laptop to arrive, I put my old (Vostro) hard drive into a case so I could access the files. I have been able to launch web pages from the file bt accessing them through My Documents so I know the file is good. The problem is, I apparently need to convert them into a JSON file in order to use them. There is a set of instructions on the Mozilla/Firefox website but that method does not work.

  • Trying to fix my ENVY-7227cl where the hard drive is failing

So my refurbished ENVY-7227cl hard drive is failing after a whopping 4 months and I can barely get it to boot to windows 8 and within minutes it freezes and crashes. I ran the hard drive check on the boot menu and it gave a failure code. I'd like to install a new hard drive as cheaply as possible, but I'm new to this and HP is no help whatsoever.
What would be my best options as I didn't save the recovery CDs?
Is it possible to install a second hard drive on my machine and attempt to copy the first hard drive onto the second? I don't really NEED any of the files on the first hard drive, so I could just install the new one but then there's the issue of installing windows without a key.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Interesting Erico. I think I may go the route of trying to install the second hard drive in the optical drive, copying the files from the bad hard drive if possible and then even swapping the old hard drive with the new and reinstalling the optical drive.  A failing hard drive is a failing hard drive. The data on it is unreliable.
If I installed a new hard drive in the opitical drive, I could then install a free os like ubuntu via USB stick, and then use a transfer program to attempt to copy the old hard drive onto the new?  No. You can use Ubuntu to attempt to copy important files, but that and testing your notebook's hardware will be the extent of it unless you intend to switch to Ubuntu on the new hard disk.  A failing hard drive is unreliable so a cloning program would produce an unreliable operating system on the new hard disk.
Or for simplicity, could i install the new hard drive with a free os and then contact windows about verifying my computer and getting a copy of windows 8 from them? A hard drive is not installed by an operatng system. You must physically install the hard disk and conect it to a SATA port.  You will need to use the recovery media that you created to install the operating system to your new hard disk.

  • Run out of Hard Drive space using Premiere Cs5- Can I save my work, buy and new hard drive?

I am in the middle of a project using premiere cs5 and I have run out of hard drive space. Can I save it, buy a new hard drive and install Premiere and then reopen it again without  it effecting my project?

If you are talking about only having one drive for Windows and programs AND video data and project files, a better option is to buy a second drive and move your projects and video data files to the new drive
