I want to upgrade, but can't do "Mountain" Lion with my computer.
However, my iMac meets the requirements for the Lion upgrade.
Where can I download and purchase the upgrade OS x Lion? Can't find it in the App Store.

Then, having followed the link, i got told, it would not be availabe in the German AppStore: i should change over to the american AppStore. Uh? i do not know how to switch in the AppStore-App to the US-Store (without tweaking some things)

Occasionally Safari beings to crash every time I open it. Move this to Safari and let the experts there help you clean up and diagnose your setup, trouble with yoru history and cache, how to launch in safe mode, and maintain your system. And what plug-ins or extensions or other modifications can interfere.
Use Pacifist and the 10.7.4 combo update to do an extract install if it is missing.

I'd purchased Mountain Lion on release date and Maverick on release date as well. I realized my old Macbook Pro (late 2007) is supported by Mountain Lion, so I want to upgrade it from 10.6.8. However, in the App Store purchases I only see Maverick and search the App Store doesn't bring up Mountain Lion.

I tried that on both the old machine (10.6.8) and new one (10.9.2) and see just Maverick. I'm logged in the same Apple account for both. I see that I made the purchase in my receipts on July 26, 2012.

If you already purchased it, you can just call Apple online Store and they'll give you a code to download it again. If you haven't purchased it before, you might be out of luck. Apple seemed to have really phased it out and hasn't made it available online for quite some time. They were selling USB drives for a while longer, but those are no longer available as well. Some people have commented that they were able to call the Apple online store and purchase it over the phone, but those reports are a few months old.

Now that Mountain Lion is out, you can't buy older versions of OSX directly from the Apple Store. However, you can try calling Apple (1-800-MY-APPLE) and tell them that your hardware doesn't support Mountain Lion. I'm sure they still have copies of Lion. It's not like they destroy all traces of previous versions of OSX every time a new version is released.

It's still possible to get Lion and Mountain Lion in the online Store (you get a redemption code to download them) but it hasn't yet caught up with the emergence of Yosemite. Possibly if you give it a few days it will be updated.

Java 6u38 came out quite a while ago and Apple disregarded it because they are trying to force people onto Lion and Mtn Lion and dumps the responsibility for Java onto Oracle.
Yes, it came out in mid-December, but how did they disregard it? Linc Davis says it's in Developer Preview testing as we speak, but it's all minor bug fixes so what's the rush?
I can't argue that Apple wants to get out from under Java and has publically stated that for several years now. It's turned into a security nightmare, much the way Adobe Flash has, so I don't blame them at all for walking away. I still expect them to fulfill their agreement to continue support of Java 6 through end-of-life.

I just bought a 2012 mac mini and I want to install mountain lion on an SSD that I bought separately. Where can I find the mountain lion installer file to create a bootable USB install drive? When I go to the mac app store, mountain lion is not listed in my purchases and when I try to buy it, it says "We could not complete your purchase. OS X Mountain Lion is not compatible with this computer." It's already installed on the mac mini, I just need the installer file so I can install it on my SSD.

Follow any of the internet instructions to create a ML USB thumb drive.
I tried this method, and while it did get me the installer image, when I restored it to an external and tried to use it to restore a Late 2012 Mac Mini, I got the same "No" symbol I did with other ML installers.
Here are some screenshots of what was loaded onto my external before I yanked it, when the screen turned black durring the restart. The highlighted file is what I restored to my external to use to restore the Mac Mini.
