As you can tell the one with Firewire 800 can take Airport Extreme cards, while the one without can only take the old Airport card which can be found at places like this:

Where can I buy an airPort extreme caed for my powerbook? are they even available, if not how can I go wireless ?

eBay is a good source, though as ever, buy wisely and make sure you get the right card for your specific model.
Alternatively there are wireless cards available that go in the card slot. Again eBay is full of them but be sure they're OSX compatible - its a good idea to put this phrase in your search terms.

It just plugged straight in and was recognised as an Airport Card. This is from the UK site but I'm sure you can find the same thing wherever you live, or at that price just have it shipped.

My eMac can't find installed airport Extreme card

Having bought a netgear wireless modem for a wi-fi connection, I was told to install an airport extreme card on my eMac, which I did - several times. But the eMac says he can't find when I look for it, either in the internet setup or in the general information about the hard and software. I also installed the accompanying software. Why can this be ? Thanks for your advice!

@Christoph: Um, no there aren't. The only thing I know of is the Belkin TB hub, which is $300 & way more complicated (& bigger) than just an adaptor.

I have reinstalled Mountain Lion. Now I found the folder in my Time Capsul where the keycahins are saved. (Library->kechains) I only need the passwords for WiFi Internet access. Which exact data do I need to restore?

At first I must say that such upgrade is not supported and to be honest I don't know if new WLAN card will work properly.
It is also important to mention that such upgrade will cancel valid warranty so I don't know if this is so good idea as you think.

Good question. For someone who has experience with notebooks disassembling it is definitely simply but I don't know if this can be simply for you. Fact is that notebook must be disassembled and cover from the bottom must be removed completely.
Please think twice before you do anything.

Instead of using either of the AirPort cards, you may want to consider using a USB wireless adapter instead. The advantage of this would be that thise adapters support the newer 802.11n networks. FWIW, I use one with my G4 Quicksilver Power Mac and it works great. There are a number of vendors out there that sell these. One example would be Other World Computing (OWC).

I downloaded a driver from "driverguide.com" as suggested by one responder. It came along with a Trojan virus that fortunately my antivirus program (Panda) found.
Next I tried the suggestion about downloading Version 2..0 driver.  I did, but my Windows XP could not open the file. (Not sure why Version 2.0 was suggested, since my PCI card is Version 4.1). So this suggestion went nowhere.
I did find that there are MANY Linksys items for sale on Ebay and may pursue one of those.
In closing - I want to thank all those who responded and tried to help. I also want to mention that I am not happy that Linksys basically "threw us under the bus" by no longer providing a simple driver download for WMP54G owners. There are thousands of us out there and it is certainly easy to forget where you filed away your installation disc.....especially if you're older and have trouble remembering things anyway. (I'm 78).
