First off, it is a "Bad" idea to enable 'root', as that is the one known account that exists on every Unix system. If 'root' is enabled, it makes it much easier to break into a Mac via the one account that has absolute control over everything.
Having said that...
i too do not observe in editor section enable root user when I perform what Kappy offered in link.
Did you click on "Login Options" to get the "Join..." button?
Did you click on "Open Directory Utility" ?
Did you go to the Menu Bar and click "Edit"? It should be right there 2/3's of the way down the "Edit" menu -> "Enable Root User"
If you want another way.
Start an Applications -> Utilities -> Terminal session
sudo su -
password: <enter your admin password here>
passwd
Changing password for root.
New password:
Retype new password:
You have now enabled 'root'. I hope you gave 'root' a very VERY STRONG password, as you have just opened yourself up for script kiddies to go after your root account. -
My iPhone 3GS was recently stolen. I can't find the box and it has not been synced to my computer in a long time. I just use it as an iPod now. I have the IMEI but not the serial number. Is there a way that I can get the serial number using the IMEI number. Thanks

The governments in some middle eastern countries have banned Facetime and it is disabled on iphones purchased in those countries. The countries include KAS, UAE and others. There is no way to get Facetime on such phones (for example it cannot be downloaded and installed) and taking the phone to another country does not cause Facetime to reappear on such phones. The only way I know to achieve this would be to create three separate bookmarks on the Bookmarks toolbar and click on a one that you want to load in the current tab. You can also try to right-click the Back arrow and click the entry at the bottom of the list to return to the first page.

I can not export photos onto DVD. After I click export, close iPhoto, click Finder, At this point I can't find the file to burn. (copy to be used on Windows) Sorry for the lame question....new to mac
So it sounds like you are trying to burn a DVD with photos on it so the photos can be either transferred to or displayed on a Windows PC, is that correct?
For the purposes of this I am going to assume you are using iPhoto '11.
Gather the photos you want to burn to DVD in one album in iPhoto. This is not absolutely necessary but it sure makes things easier for me.
Select that album, then go to the File menu and select Export...
In the dialog that shows up, select the File Export tab. Select the setting you want to use for export. Click the Export button.
Another dialog will show up. Set the location to Desktop and click the New Folder button. Name the folder something nice and descriptive and click the Create button.
Click the OK button. Quit iPhoto as the rest of this work will be done in the Finder.
You will now have a folder on your desktop with that nice descriptive name. Find it and select it. Go to the File menu and from it select Burn "Descriptive folder name" to Disc...
Insert a blank DVD when prompted.
Let the finder complete the work and eject the disc afterwards.

my iWeb image names are incompatible with FTP servers and must be renamed but I can't find the images in iWeb. I can upload to a desktop file and change them there but then I would need to download them to a new site in iWeb to publish them.

Yes, I discovered by this unfortunate experience that the names of photos are a serious issue if the site is to ever go to an FTP server. Apple should discuss this carefully in their "manual".
One more question: I uploaded the website to a folder on my desktop. When I open it, unlike the photos in iWeb, there are folders for each page which have all the photos in them. I went through each folder and changed the names to be FTP compatible. I'm using iWeb SEO Tool which allows one to upload from this local folder to an FTP server but having trouble.
Is this because there is an imbedment in iWeb that uses the old photo names to link to the actual photos and it can't find them because of the name changes?

How can I delete files from it?The startup disk is the internal SSD in your MBA. You may delete files by draging the file to Trash (or clicking on them and then execute COMMAND+Delete). Then empty Trash.

I have ITunes installed on my PC which runs Windows Vista in support of my IPad. When I try to install the update for ITunes 10.7 version, it says it can't find the "itunes64.msi" file. How do I correct this, or where can I find a download for the itunes64.msi file?
(1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):

(2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get aCode 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
(3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
(4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
(5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time? -

I am trying to install (upgrade to) Mavericks from Snow Leopard (10.6.8). However, the current version of Mavericks is 10.9.1. I'm being told that I can't do this upgrade without 10.9. Any ideas as to where I can find the straight 10.9 (pre-patch) version of Mavericks?
The version on the App Store for Mavericks is 10.9.1 and it's the full installer.
The only time you would need 10.9 is if you were installing the delta download of 10.9.1 from Apple's Software Update Support page.
So, just go to the App Store and you will be able to download/install Mavericks 10.9.1 without the need of 10.9. -

Where has the find duplicates function gone in the new iTunes? It use to be in a drop down task bar menu in the old versions but i can't find it in the latest.
