Where can I get an old-school style keyboard (one that CLICKS)

I cannot stand the soft keyboard that came with my Mac Pro and I want to go old school and get a keyboard that gives a loud CLICK every time you press a key, one that you actually feel when the key is depressed. Any suggestions?

Somebody else suggested a NOS/refurbished IBM Model M from clickykeyboard.com. These would have to be used with and USB/PS2 adapter, which is actually a bit problematic, as you may have a bit of trouble getting one that works well. A bigger problem is that those keyboards do not have a key that is recognized as Apple/Command, which means that they are, in fact, useless for a Mac Pro
Instead, you could go to Unicomp (http://www.pckeyboard.com), who manufacture new keyboards based on the Model M mechanism. You should select a version with Windows keys and USB interface - I have 4 Customizer 105 keyboards which I'm completely happy with. Well, apart from the Windows symbols on two of the keys... I'd much prefer to have Apple or Clover symbols.
Then, once you have the keyboard, you need to get a keyboard mapping for it, unless you want to place stickers conforming to the Apple layout on top of some of the keys If you want to create a new keyboard mapping yourself, you should look for a program named "Ukelele" (http://www.sil.org/computIng/catalog/show_software.asp?id=94).
I really appreciate your help. Is it really that complicated just to get a keyboard that clicks? I am not a computer person. I went to that Ukelele site and I have no idea what keyboard mapping is nor how to do it.
As for Tony0074, the one I have is white in the clear casing that ships with new Mac Pros.

OK, I understand that new versions make use of facilities that come with new versions of IOS, but there is/was a version that runs on 3.1.3 and therefore, I assume 4.2.1. Where can I get the (old) version that runs on my IOS?
The app store seems to ignore all legacy equipment owners, and want me to spend loadsa money to get the latest shiny toy. It probably makes business sense, but I dislike companies that take that approach. This is my first venture into smart phones, and I like the IOS interface, but I'm not sure I can afford the maintenance.

This is standard for Apple.  While there is little official mention of the software support lifespan for equipment, typical support has been about 4-5 years for computers.  It strikes me that newer items, especially mobile devices, are not built as sturdily nor do they have the hardware upgrade capabilities required to keep up with newer systems.  When we bought an iPhone 4S we were told by the person in the store we'd probably be looking at a newer model in two years.  The iPhone 3G could be anywhere from 2 to 4 years old, putting it well into.
As for app availability, Apple typically pulls old software versions from its site when new versions appear.  If it is a non-Apple app then I guess it is up to the vendor. It is indeed tiresome but it is not at all unusual.  Since I only ever run used Macs, I download current versions even though my computer won't run them, stick them on a hard drive, then I have them when I upgrade to a newer used computer.  If you run older equipment you have to learn a different mode of operation to exist with the Apple 'new and innovative' but 'forget about the old' philosophy.

here can I get a version of Safari 5.1 that is compatible with Snow Leopard 10.6.3?
Not possible. You need to update to v10.6.8
Click your Apple menu > Software Update
Or update using the this download > Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo
    Then restart your Mac.

  • HT201342 Can I get my old pic back the one get erased when I rest my phone

Can I get my old pic back the one get erased when I rest my phone

You can if it was in your camera roll when you last backed up to iCloud, but you will have to restore the entire backup to recover it (not just photos).  If you want to do this, it has to be done in the initial setup process.  If you have any data on your phone now that is not in the backup that you want to save you'll need to do that first.  Then go to Settings>General>Reset and tap Erase All Content and Settings.  You will then go through the setup screens as you did when the phone was new. When given the option, choose Restore from iCloud Backup (see image below).  Be sure you are connected to wifi and your charger as this will take some time to finish.

  • Where can I get OS X 10.4 discs so that I can reset my ibook g4?

Does anyone know where I can get OS X 10.4 discs so that I can reset my ibook G4 to factory settings?

Hi, and welcome to Apple Support Communities.
Sometimes Apple has older software discs available, and will send them to you for a fee if you have misplaced your original software discs. Try giving them a call. You may have to ask for "legacy hardware support" in order to speak to a representative who knows whether the software is available. Be prepared to give them your serial number so they can match the exact software set to your iBook.
    Good luck.

  • Latest version of Mozilla not supported by online college website. Where can I get downloads for older versions of Mozilla that are supported. Specifically, 3.o to be compatible with Blackboard CE8.3?

I go to Greenville Technical College in Greenville SC where I take online courses. The school utilizes a program called Blackboard which runs something called Campus Edition 8 service pack 3 (CE8.3). This fall I logged in after taking the summer off to discover that my Mozilla 5 is not compatible with their system. The Blackboard support pages indicate that the CE8.3 is compatible with Mozilla 3.o. My problem is that I cannot find that version to download for a reinstall of the browser. Can you help me? • How do I get the old java version (the one that worked) back

I just did the lastest OSX upgrade.  OSX 10.7.   It did a few things to Java.
    1) It removed the Utility to select a Java version to run (umm, so how am I supposed to pick Java 1.5 for some old Java 1.5 apps?)
    2) It made some Java 1.6 applications that I need on my desktop to do my job not work.   Anyone heard of ScrumWorksPro.?  Barfing on a laf.jar that's missing from the new 1.6 version
I can't seem to 'downgrade' back to the version that worked.   Does anyone have the zip file of the old version of Java that worked?  If so, where do I unzip it to.   I'm fine with launching my app from a terminal, I just need the jvm files so I can.  Looks like the installer (or my attempts to get rid of the new version by doing rm -r on every Java dir I could find) has gotten rid of the old version of Java.   I just can't seem to find the installer or the zip files to get the old version.
    Help!

In Firefox 4 by default the Stop, Go and Reload (refresh) buttons are combined and attached to the right hand edge of the location bar.
When you are typing in the location bar it will show the Go button. When a site is loading it shows the Stop button. At other times it shows the Reload button.
If you want separate buttons, Control-click on a toolbar and choose Customize, you can then drag and drop the stop or reload buttons and place them elsewhere. If you place them in the order "Reload-Stop" on the right hand edge of the location bar they will be combined again. For more details on customizing the toolbar see https://support.mozilla.com/kb/How+to+customize+the+toolbar

  • I was given a laptop computer from a friend.  His itunes library pops up when I click iTunes. I have my own iTunes account.  How can I get MY account to be the one that pops up?

A friend gave me his laptop computer.  His iTunes account pops up when I click the iTunes icon.  I have my own account.  How do I make MY account be the one that pops up as default?

You either have an incredibly complex computer setup or I think you are confusing terminology here.  If you have iTunes set to share your library with others in your iTunes preferences then other computers in the area will see it as an item when they are running their iTunes and have it set to check for shared libraries.  Your husband is probably seeing this when running iTunes on his computer.  You can disable this sharing on your computer and/or he can set his not to pick up shared libraries.
By the way, an iTunes account is something you log into when you want to buy something from Apple.  On your computer it is simply your iTunes collection or your iTunes application.  So you need to turn off sharing in your iTunes application preferences.
Your husband is seeing "his" iTunes collection when running iTunes, but it is possible he doesn't have anything in it if it is a brand new computer.

  • Where can I get an old style PCMCIA to GPIB cable?

NI don't sell them anymore. The new cards are in 2 rows I think rather than 1.

There are no adapters that I know of. Both cables are/were custom-made for National Instruments products, but the nonlatching cannot be manufactured any longer.
If you cannot find or use your old nonlatching cable that came with the PCMCIA-GPIB board, your easiest option is to purchase a new controller, whether PCMCIA or USB. I agree that USB seems to be the way a lot of our customers are moving for the reasons of portability to desktops or laptops.
