Where can i get back up disks????

Hey whomever reads this
I just purchased a used emac off ebay with 10.3.9 installed. It did not come with system disks. I only have 384mb of RAM at the moment and will not be able to add more until after the holidays so i cannot upgrade to Tiger or even Leopard (when it comes out) until i can upgrade the RAM. So basically my question is where can i get the Panther Disks?? I would just like to have them just incase i ever need to reinstall the OS before i can get my RAM upgraded. Can you get them from Apple? The older OS's are available for download but i could only find up to 9.2. I don't want to buy panther, i would rather upgrade ram and get tiger. If i can't get panther, would i be better off creating an image as a back up to hold me over? If so how would i go about this and also it would have to be on CD if possible. I put the CD/RW from my PC (boo to windows) into my mac the other day but i don't have a DVD drive. Wow, thats a lot of questions i just asked, lol, if anyone can help in anyway that would be great
Thanx
Jeff

You can buy Panther discs on eBay and from other online sources. A good place is www.applerescue.com. Panther discs are not available for download and are not free. In fact the person who sold you the eMac should have provided the installer discs that came with the computer, although they may not have been Panther discs.
You can purchase Tiger directly from Apple. Tiger requires a minimum of 256 MBs of RAM, so you do have sufficient RAM to run Tiger.
I would get an external Firewire drive of size equal to the internal hard drive and then clone the internal drive to the external drive. Disk images are not very useful for system backups because you cannot boot from a disk image.
To clone your system:
How to Clone Using Restore Option of Disk Utility
1. Select the destination drive on the Desktop and press COMMAND-I to open the Get Info window. At the bottom in the Ownership and Permissions section be sure the box labeled "Ignore Permissions on this Volume" is unchecked. Set Ownership and Permissions as follows: Owner=system with read/write; Group=admin with read/write; Other with read-only.
2. Open Disk Utility from the Utilities folder.
3. Select the backup or destination volume from the left side list.
4. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (journaled, if available) and click on the Erase button. This step can be skipped if the destination has already been freshly erased.
5. Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
6. Select the backup or destination volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
7. Select the startup or source volume from the left side list and drag it to the Source entry field.
8. Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
For added precaution you can boot into safe mode before doing the clone.

I have Satellite M300 and I need the recovery disc. My microsoft system crashed and I need to do a recovery.
    Can you help?

    Hey mate,
You can get a new recovery disk from an authorized service provider. On the Toshiba website you can search for the nearest so please check this!!!
Alternative you install Windows from a Microsoft disk and then you can download all drivers on the Toshiba page. Then you have factory settings back too but its more complicated as the Toshiba disk.

  • Satellite A300D - Where can I get a recovery disk?

    Hello
I'm new here and got a problem.
my daughter bought a A300D-18 PSAHCE 00C00PGR in April 09.
She told me now, she tried to create a recovery disc at once, but it failed.
Now I'm looking for a recovery disc for her vista home premium SP2.
Does anybody know, where I can get a recovery disc for her?

    Hi
I can only say check your user manual ;)
If you dont have a recovery disk you can order a new one from Toshiba directly:
    https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx
If the preinstalled OS is still installed you can try again to create the recovery disk. I can recommend DVD-R mediums, this worked for me.

  • Where can I get the Boot Disk for my macbook pro? Downloading OSX Lion is taking too long

I got a macbook pro that was owned by someone for a few days before. I tried to restore to factory setting but now downloading OSX Lion is taking forever with my internet connection. Can anyone help me find a boot Disk to speed up the process?

Apple no longer sells a Lion installation USB flash drive (they did at one time). SO you'll just have to wait for the download to complete. It's best to 'hard-wire' the download - not over wifi but with an Ethernet cable connected directly to your router. That will gain you some speed.
You could also try taking your MBP to a friend's home where they may have a faster Internet service. My download speed is 22+Mbps with my cable company - you may have a friend or neighbor who has something similar? Of course, you are always at the mercy of Apple's servers - sometimes they're just overloaded and a download that should take 20 minutes can take up to an hour and one-half.
    Good luck,
    Clinton

  • Where can I get Panther & startup disks?

Getting old and lost my disks for my iMac (20 inch 1.8ghz/first generation).
Is there someplace I can purchase or download?

Call Apple Customer Support 1-800-767-2775. Provide the serial number and specifications of the Mac. They may be able to provide a replacement set of discs for a fee. These discs will be for whatever OS was installed on the computer originally, so if you have an upgraded version you will need to obtain the discs some other way.

  • Satellite A215 - Where can I get a recovery disk?

I had my laptop formatted about two weeks ago, unfortunately they did it in Spanish (I'm living in Mexico at the moment).
I've been looking for the recovery disk to restore my laptop to the way it was when I bought it. I lost mine and I'm in real need of this/these disk(s). Does anyone know where I can buy them? Or can anyone give any other suggestion?
    I'd very much appreciate it.

    Hi!
I think you should contact an authorized service provider and ask for a recovery disk. If its possible to do this, they can tell you how to do this.

    Hello
You can get a new Toshiba recovery disk from Toshiba directly. Just follow the instrucions on the website:

If your notebook was delivered with Windows Vista you can use the HDD recovery feature to reinstall it. Go in the advanced menu with F8, select repair my computer and then the Toshiba recovery option. Thats all! :)
    Windows will be reinstalled automatically.

    OK.
That depends on the operating system you have installed and the CPU\chipset your notebook has.  To install the proper drivers, you will have to identify the devices that the notebook has on your own.. I certainly can't do that from afar. That is the downside of buying a notebook without an operating system. You will have to do the legwork, but we will try to guide you.

  • What is Recovery HD and where can I get it?

What is Recovery HD and where can I get it? Disk utility says my hard drive is corrupt and needs to be repaired using Recovery HD. I downloaded Lion and do not have a CD from which to restart. Please help. My computer barely functions. This just began today, although it has been slower than usual for a few weeks. I removed lots of old Aperture Libraries with no benefit - even worse now.

The Recovery HD is in lieu of a machine-specific Mac OS X install disk that you received in the past with versions that predate Lion.  With Lion and Mountain Lion you no longer buy a DVD of the Mac OS X nor do you get an install disi with a machine that has the system pre-installed.  The Recovery HD is a means to resinstall/restore the operating system, only.  None of the peripheral software or data you have have accumulated.  For that you still need a backup of the hard drive.
Likewise you cannot write to the Recovery HD...doesn't even show up in Disk Utility and will not show up on the desktop if you have your hard drive(s) and partitions display on the desktop.
It will show up if you restart and hold the Opt key, and you can boot from it that way or the Command+R key way that is most often recommended.

How do I return calendar to original view?   All I can see is an hour by hour grid...can't get back to page where I can enter new appointments/events

Hi, at the bottom bar you should see a series of five buttons. Press the "Month" button if you desire to see the view of the month. As for creating a new calendar event simply press the "+" button in the upper right-hand corner to create a new appointment. *
    * Please note that this is all within the app called "Calendar".
