Where'd my shuffle go?

After downloading the recent iPhone update I seem to have lost the shuffle feature on my iPhone/iPod. Also, when I play any song of an album it repeats that song instead of continuing to the next. What's up with that?

When on the 'Now Playing' screen, tap the screen once. It will display the progress bar near the top, and below that you'll see the shuffle and repeat icons.
You apparetly currently have shuffle turned off, and repeat turned on. Tap the icons to change their status.

In iPhoto 6 there is no Shuffle option in the slideshow mode. However, if you select an album or a number of photos in the library and use the Play button in the toolbar at the bottom there will be a Shuffle option in the Settings window. That's the only place you'll be able to shuffle the slides.

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.

Where is Smart Shuffle?

Simple question. I'm using iTunes 8.0.1. Where is the Smart Shuffle function in the PLAYBACK are of the Preferences? This function allowed you to control the randomness of playback when the playing play list was on random (or shuffle). In other words, it used to control if songs from an artist were more or less likely to be grouped together when playing on random.

What the ****, Apple? This was a very awesome feature. Now when I pick a playlist and choose the "shuffle" button, it winds up playing blocks of songs by the same artist, which is NOT what I want. I used to be able to control this by adjusting the smart shuffle setting and reshuffling a playlist. Now I can't, and that blows. I suppose you think your "genius" thing supercedes this -- but why take options and tools AWAY from your users???

My shuffle generation 2 doesn't appear as a device on itunes. I'm connecting from the dock. Do I need a direct cable?

Okay, I finally figured out where you were talking about. When you are in the Library or Album window and click the Play button at the right of the toolbar, you get slideshow settings that include an option to shuffle the pictures. However, if you click the Slideshow button to create a slideshow from a group of pictures, Album, etc., the Settings button in the Slideshow toolbar does not have an option for shuffling the pictures. The pictures play in the order they are shown in the top row where it shows the thumbnails. If you want to change the order, you have to reorder the thumbnails.

Where's the shuffle turn off?

I just made a playlist of 70 songs that I need to play in order
for a party in 2 hours and can't fint the shuttle turnoff URRRR!!!
I go up to controls and its turned off there but still wants
to shuffle on the play list. Itunes 11.1.5
It seems everytime you do a software update something goes haywire.

Found it. You have to right click on your palylist to turn on and off.

Brand new and corrupted ipod shuffle 4th gen.

i have a new ipod shuffle 4th gen which isnt working with itunes. This is the replacement for my original one which we had the same problem with and apple support deemed it faulty. But surely we wouldnt be that unlucky to get two in a row that are faulty? There must be another explanation.
We are using a Macbook Pro running OS X 10.6.8 (and the software is up to date with no available updates). The connection with the headphone jack->USB cable is flush and 'clicks' into place. We have the latest version of itunes and we have even updated it again today after recieving the replacement ipod. When we plug the ipod into the USB the light initially goes green and then flashes orange (is trying to sync as far as i can tell) and itunes then comes up with a message that the ipod appears corrupted and to restore the ipod.
So we restore the ipod, still no good. Manually reset the ipod, still no good. Tried both USB ports, no change. The ipod is seen by the computer in system profiler under USB so I dont think its an issue with the cable. When I plug in the headphones I get the usual message to load music to the ipod shuffle via itunes. Our old ipod (nano 4th gen) works fine with itunes and we have no trouble syncing.
I wonder if it is that we are temporarily living in europe at the moment. Macbook Pro (and ipod nano) bought in Australia, and ipod shuffle bought locally (germany) via apple online store as the local stores didnt have them in stock but online was in stock. We didnt think this would be an issue but maybe it is the problem (I would have thought they would all be generic and only the packaging/instructions etc would change depending on sale location and language, especially considering the voiceover telling me to load music via itunes is an american voice speaking english, not speaking german). Also as we are new in germany we dont know anyone to test it out with on another computer. If we did find someone who could test it with (hoping maybe a work collegue might be able to help), would they also have to be running a Mac or would a PC running windows cause more issues?
Any suggestions on what to try before we go back to apple customer support once again.

My iphone ipod no longer shuffles

my iphone ipod no longer shuffles and i do not even have the "ovals" or the "shuffle" symbols...anybody got any ideas? i saw the previous responses on tapping album artwork, but that doesn't even apply here because it appeals the symbols r gone. i do have these dots that turn into STARS across the top that i have never noticed, but where did my shuffle and repeat functions go? please help.....Thanks

Storage space on the iPod would not affect shuffled playlists or playlist shuffling, though substantially full iPods may wind up skipping songs on larger playlists after a while, and require a restart. As for compressing the files themselves, you can automatically re-encode files to a lower bitrate by checking the box on the summary page when your iPod is connected to your PC/Mac.
As for the shuffle problem, after restarting your iPod (hold the center button and Menu for a few seconds, until the Apple logo appears), make sure you're telling the iPod to shuffle the songs in a playlist by repeatedly clicking the center button until the Suffle Menu comes up, then scroll to the right to turn it on. From that song forward, the playlists' contents should be shuffled every time the playlist ends, or is accessed from a new song.
Shuffle does sometimes turn itself off, I've found, so double-check the setting is still on. Also, iPods shuffle by randomly assigning a playlist order for your songs, which is different from traditional shuffle (on, say, iTunes or Windows Media Player, where the new song is determined at random upon the current track ending. The iPod only chooses a random order of songs when you shuffle, to conserve battery life and queue up songs coming up on the playlist in the event of a shock).

Random shuffling

Today my iPod started shuffling tracks within a playlist. It shuffles music and audiobooks. The setting is not on shuffle so I'm not sure where this random shuffling is coming from. Any ideas? Help?

So the Shuffle setting that is accessible via the Now Playing screen is white (meaning it is off). The Shuffle icon looks like to arrows crossing over each other and can accessed by tapping the Now Playing screen once, which also brings up the repeat icon/setting and scrubber bar.

Ipod nano 6th gen touch screen stopped working please help

Everything on the ipod nano 6th gen is working except the touch screen and once it goes to sleep i have to hold the sleep button and the volume down button to turn it back on. I went into the volume -, sleep, volume + menu and went through the tests and in the touch panel error check section it says i have IC error reported: 0xFFFFFFFF. Please help as i have reset and restored and update itunes etc. Do i need to send it in to apple? The touch screen was working at one stage and then i disconected from the computer while it said eject first (this is when the touch screen stopped working) and put the ipod on a different computer. The first computer was windows 7 which i used just to charge it a little and the second one im using is windows vista.

I have had the same problem and changed three Nano's. Each time the fault is diagnosed by Apple as "water damage".
If you take your Nano to one of their maintenance centres they will look into either the headphone socket or the power dock and and tell you that you have infringed the warranty by somehow getting the thing wet.
Basically is a poorly designed piece of kit whereas a simple shuffle is way more robust.

My iTunes Match still has not finished after 3 1/2 days and step 3's total number keeps changing, Why?

So I finally broke down and subscribled to iTunes Match just to see how it is and if it would be worth it to me. well right now im about to wig out because its been 4 days and i still have not gotten past step 3 on the proccesing...now to itunes match's defense, or iMatch as ive seen it called, i do have an emense itunes library of movies, tv shows, podcas, ringtones, and music (somewhere around 15,000 total) so I knew it would take a while, but 3 days?! And thats not even the problem, thats just a little grip I have cuz now I can't access my music on my iphone almost everything is greyed out.... i gould a back door to it where if i shuffle the album and skip to the song i want then that will work BUT! thats too much of a hassl!
Ok enough ******** cuz ima sit here just to see how long it takes and report back. Now for the real question.... I want to know that in all this waiting why does step 3 where it uploads artwork and remaining songs total number keep changing, i.e. :
this is the screen ive seen for the last 3 full days, and the total items uploaded keeps changing yesturday it said 1500 of 7000
so is it updating the number as it uploads them or what? It's confusing but im trying to give it a chance.

ok so day 4-5 and im still not finished with the inital iMatch process.... BUT i found out that nothing was wrong its just taking for freakin ever. oh well at least i only got 1000 more to go....

IPhoto slideshow with descriptions?

How do I make an iPhoto slideshow with descriptions?

This helped along with changing how I was creating the slideshow. My original approach was the select "new slideshow" from the File Menu and then drag individual images to the slideshow folder. This is what didn't work for me.
I then tried selecting a bunch of images in an event then selected "new slideshow" from the File Menu, This resulted in a slideshow where I could shuffle the slide order in the image bar at the top. I don't know which step provided the solution, or whether it was the combination - I suspect the combination.

The one feature I'd love to have

I guess there is no specific place where users of iPods and iTunes can beg for features, so here goes nothing
I'd love a button that pushes me out of shuffle mode (within a playlist or whatever), and puts the iPod (or iTunes) into a mode where it suspends shuffle mode and continues playing that song and the rest of the album it is from, until I press that button again or the album finishes.

I guess everyone has their own "I really wish the iPod did X" but this is a feature I've wanted from way before I owned an iPod, and I'd guess there are quite a few people out there that have wished they could dive into the album from a shuffled song.

I see where I can tell it to only show the 10 newest blogs on my homepage.
Now when someone wants to look at older posts, it takes them to the "archive page".
I've only posted like maybe 5 times but I plan on making 100s of posts this year.
Will the archive page begin to become "paged" as in page 1, page 2, page 3 or will someone have to scroll ALL the way down on the same page to view my 1000s of posts?
Hopefully iWeb2010 will have a feature where they can shuffle through all my posts by month, or year.

There is a "search" button that you can add on the main page of your blog, you find it in the "RSS" item of the inspector, but for me it doesn't work anymore since iLife09. I am looking for a solution if anyone has it. I've already tried to remove it and add it again, had to republish the whole blog, took hours, and it still doesn't work

Any way to reset the iPod preferences in iTunes?

For a while now I've had a problem where my iPod Shuffle is recognized as a Shuffle by the Finder, but not by the iPod updater or iTunes. They both seemed to think that the Shuffle was actually a normal iPod. Contacts and calendars would try to sync and even if I only let a couple songs get transferred, I can't hear them with the Shuffle anyway.
This problem had gone away for a couple weeks. My computer was restarted and all of a sudden iTunes was recognizing my Shuffle as a gasp Shuffle. Unfortunately, today it went back to thinking it was some other kind of iPod. So I did a software update (iTunes 6.0.3 to 6.0.4 and a security update) and allowed the computer to restart. Still having the same darn problem. In iTunes the Shuffle isn't recognized as a Shuffle but is recognized as a normal iPod.
When it shows up on the desktop, however, it has the Shuffle icon.
My Powerbook running the same OS and software versions works fine - but all my music is on my desktop. Please someone tell me how to get iTunes to work properly!

You could try if deleting the iPod prefs. helps.
Move 'com.apple.iPod.plist' (in ~/Users/YourUsername/Library/Preferences) to the trash.
Run iTunes. iTunes will create a new iPod prefs. file.
If this doesn't work, you might have to restore the iPod:

IPod Changes Album Sequence

I've been having the follwing issue with my iPod ever since I updated to the new iTunes and updated my iPod firmware. Basically, rather than playing albums in track number order, my iPod will now change the track order to reflect which tracks have been played the most. How do I change this? Because although there are times where I like shuffle, or I just want to hear a certain song, I also would like to listen to albums in their intended order, but I haven't found an option to keep things ordered this way. Thanks for any help in advance.

Try:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Unsync/delete all music and resync
To delete all music go to Settings>General>Usage>Storage>Music>Tap edit in upper right and then tap the minus sign by All Music
- Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
- Restore from backup. See:

- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
