Where did boot camp go?

Ok I installed Windows 8.1 on my 13" Macbook Pro 2012 non retina about 4-5 months ago. Today I decided to also install Ubuntu 14.04. I'm not sure where it went wrong, but now when I hold the option key while booting the only drives that come up are Macintosh HD and Recovery HD. It used to have Macintosh HD, Recovery HD, and Windows HD. I checked Disk Utility and the Boot Camp partition still exists. I just don't know how to get to it. Please help.

By trying to install Linux you have successfully crapped the bootloader thus losing your Windows system and the Windows partition.
Install OS X Using Internet Recovery
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
Boot to the Internet Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND-OPTION- R keys until a globe appears on the screen. Wait patiently - 15-20 minutes - until the Recovery main menu appears.
Partition and Format the hard drive:
Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
After DU loads select your newly installed hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Install button. Be sure to select the correct drive to use if you have more than one.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
This should restore the version of OS X originally pre-installed on the computer.

Where is "Boot Camp Software Update 3.1 for Windows 64 bit"??

Did you try just 3.2 update?
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL979
I find this "you need 3.0 first" then have to install year old 3.1, and only then can you install 3.2? what kind of Windows motherboard support is that?
And, you already have 3.0 installed off a 10.6 OS X DVD, and have you tried to use Apple Software Update (Windows obviously)? though I think the standalone updates are better and less trouble or problems. Download and keep them handy in case ever needed in the future too.

  • Where's boot camp assistant

I bought one of the newly released macbooks and am thinking about installing boot camp on it. Looked up how to install it in help; it said use boot camp assistant in the utilities folder. However, when I looked in utilities there was no assistant for boot camp. I also checked my installation disks and did not see it in the bundled software package or optional software folder

    This should help:

  • Where is boot camp 3.0?

I ran out of room on my main hard drive, so I erased it and RAIDed it with another hard drive to make a 2TB drive. Then I went into my windows 7 partition to play some games. THEN I went to the boot camp icon in the system tray to boot back into mac only to find that it no longer recognizes my mac hard drive. The boot camp control panel shows only my windows 7 and windows xp partitions (which are located on two separate drives). So I uninstalled boot camp and reinstalled from my original Mac Pro install disc. The control panel STILL doesn't see my mac drive. Turns out I have boot camp 2.0. SO I looked to upgrade to the new 3.1, problem is when I tried to install it, it said it needs 3.0 FIRST. So I look for 3.0 and WHOA, it is NOWHERE TO BE FOUND! I have searched high and low. Even to lame torrent sites and I still can't find it! Why isn't it on the apple site? Seriously. Does anyone know where to find it? Please. I am at my wit's end here.

I don't think your problems are anything that BC 3.0 will fix.
I find the idea that motherboard support drivers have any kind of pre-requisite 'odd' and unheard of.
The fact 2.0/2.1+ worked before and it was only when you created a RAID.
But Option boot works, and Mac system preference Startup Disk control panel sees your startup volumes.
When I was using multiple Windows OS, I had to use Windows own boot manager to control which was the default, and which to load, as well as a 10-30 second delay to change which one; as well as having to install Windows 7 afterward. Then I found Windows 7 XP Mode which made things easier, and didn't need to run XP natively.

  • Did Boot Camp, XP works great, question about OSX use now

Part of Boot Camp is you make a partition in your HD for Windows. I did this and now when I boot OSX there's a 2nd HD on my desktop title "Untitled" for XP. Will this secondary HD always appear when I run OSX? I find it very annoying on my desktop. If I can't get rid of it is there at least anyway I can rename it without reformatting it?
    Thanks,
    Jacob

you can rename it. boot to windows, right-click on "Local Disk" under "My Computer" and rename it there. when you boot back to Mac, it will have the new name.
You can't remove it from your Mac side though - it is a volume just like any other and will show up. my only suggestion would be to go to finder preferences and de-select "show hard disks on desktop"

  • Question mark (?) where My Boot Camp Applications used to be

I have just upgraded to Mountain Lion and therefore needed to upgrade my Parallels to version 7.  However on the upgrade to Mountain Lion, the My Boot Applications Folder became a question mark (?) and I was prompted to upgrade to Parallels 7 which I have done.
I have since read that boot Camp 4.0 (which I presume is included with Mountain Lion) does not support Windows XP which I run from both Boot Camp and Parallels.  I can boot OK from both ways, but have the annoying question mark in the dock.
    Does anybody have any idea's?
    Many thanks
    Andrew

This is a function of Parallels not Bootcamp.
Drag the broken alias out of the dock and release it in a puff of virtual smoke.
Next tme you start Parallels do not launch your VM but right click on it in the VM window panel and select configure from the pop out window panel.
Click on the options button and Applications
Make sure the share windows applications with Mac and show Windows folder in dock are ticked .
Parallels will then recreate folder alias.
As for Bootcamp 4 not supporting XP this is correct, however if you created your Bootcamp partition prior to Lion/Mountain Lion you may still have Bootcamp 3.6 drivers with an XP install i know i do.

It is difficult to understand your issue from your discription. I have three suggestions.
    1. Visit the Boot Camp forum. You posted in the Mac Book Pro forum about your Boot Camp issue. The Boot Camp gurus hang out in the Boot Camp form. https://discussions.apple.com/community/windows_software/boot_camp
    2. Read the Boot Camp installation guide. http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/boot_camp_install-setup_10.7.pdf
    3. Do not post personal information such as phone numbers in public forums.

  • My new iMac does not recognise an iso image of windows install disk in boot camp

I have the iso file for win7 64bit but when I run bootcamp I do not get the option to use a USB stick, so loaded the file onto a DVD-R disk.
When I load the disc the iMac tries to read it then stops and asks to me to put the disk in.
I am logged in to the machine as the administrator.
As a registered MSDN member I downloaded the iso file direct from the Microsoft MSDN website only a couple of weeks ago.
Any asisstance will be most appreciated, as I am a Mac newby and I really want to dump my old windows laptop and desktop machines1

I have a Mac Book Pro (A1226 -late 2007) and I want to run Windows 7 Ultimate on it via Boot camp.   I am currently running Mac OS X 10.6.8  with Boot camp 3.0.    For some reason I can't seem to install Windows 7 through Boot camp.  Can I even install it on this computer?  Would I be able to run Windows 7 on this computer if I purchased Parallels instead.

  • White screen of death and computer halts with ATI 4870 in Boot Camp

    Hi!
I have just received the ATI Radeon 4870 for my Mac Pro (Early 2008)and have upgraded my Leopard to 10.5.7 and works fine on the Mac side. When I reboot and hold the command key I can see my MAC and my BOOT CAMP 2 options as always before. When I click on boot camp I get a white screen with a black frome around it and there is NO hard disk activity and nothing happens no matter how long I leave the computer alone. Before I had no problem booting into my boot camp loaded with vista 64 bit. I have another partition with parallels and that is fine but not this boot camp partition.
I am using ONLY this card in the system. I removed the NVIDIA card.
ALso I tried putting in my Vista 64bit DvD into the drive and rem=booting and see the option when hold the option key to go into MAC,WINDOWS,DVD.... When I select DvD and computer adjust to work in a windows enviroment again the system halts. SO I believe it has nothing whatsoever to to do with drivers inside Vista. It would have to be something that needs upgrading for bootcamp to allow for this video card to work on Bootcamp?
Again I have the latest updates of the OS.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks for all your time!

CorkyO recommended what I would do: install old card, uninstall any graphics drivers and delete them, and use Driver Sweeper as well. So that there is nothing there.
If you have a raw unformatted drive, pull everything else and leave that in.... as if it was a PC and starting for the first time.
    Don't use Boot Camp Assistant.
Don't put Windows on the same drive as OS X.
Do try Windows 7.7100 RC 64-bit.
Apple has not posted a link to graphics drivers since early 2008.
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1442 - "Not found" and WAY out of date (167.xx) which would be foolish and obviously would not support Vista or 4870.
I would pull the Vista drive for another reason, too, so you can start fresh and import or access the files on it later.
Vista is sensitive to the presence and drive position of where the drive and OS was, the master boot record and such which I confess to not fully understanding.
Which is another reason to install Windows with no other hard drives present.
You keep saying you used COMMAND rather than OPTION key to restart into Windows, so figure typo/slip.
I would RESET SMC and ZAP PRAM/NVRAM. Force the device tree to get rebuilt. And that is important to OS X - suppose to do so but the G5s it never worked properly on its own.
There is a reason why people that play with graphics cards and drivers use Driver Sweeper, it works, and it is essential at times.
Early boot is under the control of EFI. I don't know what if anything Apple does (I don't trust the firmware updates that were suppose to provide better Windows compatibility only to learn it was mostly for XP and not Vista, and that it added a full 30 seconds to my boot routine into Windows - where EFI + Boot Camp does make Windows think there is a traditional BIOS.... my best summary guess.
Work with the only factual symptom: pulling one card and putting in 2nd is causing a problem.

  • Windows 7 Boot Issues (After Installation via Boot Camp)

    Hi All
Today I attempted to install Windows 7 x64 on my mac via boot camp.
The install went fine, and I installed the necessary drivers using my Mac OSX Install DVD.
When I restarted I could select Windows as the disc I wanted to boot into, but after selecting it, I only saw the white blinking cursor at the top left hand side of the screen for a few seconds before the computer restarted and booted into OSX.
I tried it a few more times just to make sure it wasn't a one off.
I then inserted my Windows install disc and attempted to repair startup. There were no issues detected.
I can also successfully boot into Windows 7 through VMWare Fusion in OSX, leading me to believe that there must be some thing wrong on the Mac end of booting (although I'm not familiar with the booting process in Mac, so I'm not really sure).
If anyone has any idea what's wrong, I'd really like a hand!
    Thanks
