Where did catalog paths go in File Open Recent in Lr3??

In Lr 1 & 2, File >> Open Recent shows you a list of your recently-opened catalogs, INCLUDING the path for each one.  I just upgraded to Lr 3 and only see the catalog NAMES are listed under Open Recent... and no paths.  I don't see any option to turning paths on in Edit >> Preferences or Edit >> Catalog Settings.
In the past, I had a separate folder for each shoot, each with it's own Lr catalog... I named each folder for each specific shoot, but always named the catalogs "edits"... so i literally have hundreds of catalogs named "edits"!  This was never a problem in Lr 1 or 2 thanks to (1) the paths being displayed in the recent catalog list and (2) them being stored in separate, specifically-named folders... but now I can't distinguish between them in Open Recent... and I'd prefer not to rename all those catalogs!  Anyone have any insight here?  Much thanks!

Thanks for the effort Dorin, but actually that isn't true & doesn't help:
(1) You're incorrect, LR 2.7 does in fact show paths under "Open Recent".  See attached picture of my screen from my old computer running LR 2.7 (I coudln't take a direct screenshot which shows active menus).  Dorin, I believe your paths don't show because they are test catalogs, and possibly your one actual catalog is in the same path as the test ones?  Not sure, but obviously from my picture you can see paths.  (My folders, on the F drive, are labled with dates & names, as you can clearly see.)
(2) "Stop creating so many catalogs. One is enough."  Seriously?  Because I take over 50,000 shots for wedding season alone each year, let alone all the other completely unrelated things I do - commercial, landscape, events, portraits, etc.  Having just one catalog is nonsensical for many reasons - most notably that it would be so bloated that I couldn't organize anything properly (I use colors, flags, and stars already in each individual catalog already) & it would have amazingly horrible performance.
So my question remains - does anyone know how to (or if we can) turn paths on in the Open Recent list in LR 3?  Is there anyone from Adobe on these forums?  Thanks

  • Show full file name in File Open Recent Files menu.

I would like to be able to see the full file name in the File > Open Recent Files menu. With long file names, I cannot differentiate between the file I want to edit and the series of images I exported - they all look the same when truncated. (Mac)

I'm working in CS6 on Windows and wondering exactly the same thing. I usually export PDFs or JPGs of current work using the same or very similar names for tracking purposes but trying to open recent files then becomes a game of trying to figure out which of the various identically-truncated file names actually corresponds to the file I want to reopen.
Is there a way to get Illustrator to display the FULL file name in the Open Recent Files menu?

  • File Open Recent (Showing old files)

For some reason very often in PS CS3 if I go to File > Open Recent it doesn't show me the most recent files. Very, very annoying. Anyone have this problem or a workaround? Thanks.

I shut down PS by the X in the upper right hand corner in Windows.
Had not thought about working over a server. If I'm always live on those servers why should that make a difference? Shouldn't the app be able to go out and retrieve the file if it can connect?
    Thanks!

  • What happenrd tu our albums and where did a bunch of empty files come from?

We have recently had problems with iPhoto 4 (See my message there) and tried solving at least some of them by upgrading to '06. The installation seemed to go smoothly and when I received message that a photo library was found and did I want to import it I said yes, assuming it was my old library. Well it took a while to bring in about 6300 pictures. Before I continue let me add that I had copied (drag/drop) the -4 library to second hard drive for backup. I had also carried out an Archive and Reinstall trying to solve other problems.
I now have two new problems:
    1. Eventhough the photos seem to have come through OK we lost our albums. Is there a way to recover them? My wife put a lot of time into several of them and she is NOT PLEASED!
    2. Now my library has been expanded to about 12,000 files. I can't say photos since it appears a second file containing nothing was created for almost all of the photos, I can't see a reason a few were skipped. If you try to edit one of these "photos" the rainbow circle appears and the program freezes, a force quit of iPhoto is the only way to gain control of the computer. This also happens if one of the blanks is included in a slideshow. I can delete them but I may wear out my mouse clicking on all of the blank files. They have the same id as a photo that does behave properly.
My best guess is that aliases were somehow taken through the transformation. //is there a way to aviod these problems when I upgrade our 15" Powerbook?
    Thanks.

    OB:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Does you backup copy of your V4 library contain all of your photos? That is have you added any to the new library that's giving you trouble? If not then try the following:
1 - copy your backup library folder to your HD and name it something like "Primary Library" and put it in your Pictures folder.
2 - download and run BatChmod on the Primary Library folder with the settings shown here, substituting your account name for mine. You can either type in the path to the folder or just drag the folder into that field.
3 - launch iPhoto with the Option key depressed and, when asked, select the Find library option.
4 - navigate to the Pictures folder and select the Primary Library folder.
Then you'll go thru the upgrade process again. See if that won't get you thru it OK.
If albums are lost the pictures will still be in the main library.

  • Where did my MS Word recovered file go?

I started doing my dissertation last night. I have two documents open (both unsaved). One of the documents was already a recovered file (Document1).
I fell asleep and forgot to plug in my charger. When I woke up, my laptop's battery has already died so I plugged it on the charger. However when it turned on, only one of the documents was recovered (Document2). How do I go about recovering the already recovered file (Document1)?
Hope this makes sense and that someone can help me.
    TIA!

What does not make sense is why you don't save your work, especially after having to recover previously?
If the file exists it will be wherever Microsoft chose as Words default autorecover location, I suggest that you ask in a Microsoft Office forum.
    Try this one

  • Where did the scrubber go in the most recent update?

I just updated the Podcasts app yesterday (3/20/13).  I used to be able to slide the cover art for an audio podcast up in the Now Playing screen and scrub the current podcast forward or backward, or turn on 2x, 3x, etc.  Now I can't find that same control.  Is it gone?

    Found it!!!
if you are on the now playing screen with the show art and tap on the art it will show up as a transulent overlay at the top instead of the cover sliding up.

  • Set File Open dialog path in Acrobat

    Hi forum,
Is there a way to set the path for the File Open dialog that shows in Acrobat?
The situation I have is that the navigation up and down folders to Watermarks and files to be inserted is a painful process.
I would like to add buttons to the add-on toolbar that set the File Open dialog path to predefined folders, however after reviewing the Javascript guide it looks like this simple task is not possible, or exposed by the API.
Could someone please confirm if this is possible or not?
    Thanks
    Simon

    No, it's not possible.

  • I opened a new catalog and now can't open my old catalog?

I opened a new catalog in LR and now I cannot find my old catalog with 12K pictures on it? I've googled this, been on YouTube, tried to reach support. Can anyone help?

The file should be in your recently used catalog list (File, Open Recent).
If not then use your operating system to search for all files with the "lrcat" suffix.
Failing those we might need to know the LR version and your OS.

  • TextEdit's "Open Recent" menu command: how to increase # of files listed?

In TextEdit (v. 1.6, in OS 10.6.5), under the "File" menu, there is a command called "Open Recent >" which when chosen lists the ten most recently opened TextEdit files. Select one from the list, and it re-opens.
I find this functionality very useful, but I also wish that more than just ten recent files were listed. I would much prefer 15, 20, even 25 recent files in the list.
Is there any way to increase the number of "recent" files listed under "File>Open Recent>..." in TextEdit?
There doesn't seem to be any option for changing the default number in TextEdit's "Preferences."
Other applications also have a similar functionality, and in some cases the default is more than ten, in some cases less. But a few other applications give the user the ability to alter the number of files listed. Yet not all. So, my second question is: Is there a universal way to alter the number of "recent" files listed in:
    • All Apple applications
    • All third-party applications
    • The Finder?
Mostly I'm interested in solving the TextEdit problem, but I might as well ask this secondary question while I'm at it.

    Sweet! That was easy.
I knew there must be some way to adjust the setting somewhere, but it never occurred to me to look under the "Appearance" system preference pane. Strange place to hide it!
Recommendation to Apple: Allow each application to set its own # of "recent" items," and *place the option in that application's own "preferences" menu*. Much more logical there!
In any case: Problem now marked as "solved"! Thanks.

  • .AI files opening as Text Imports in Illustrator

I created two pieces of work last night, 2/4/15, using Adobe Illustrator and once completed I saved the files and haven't moved them from their original destination. I attempted to open the files today, 2/5/15, and have a pop up saying that it is opening the files as a text document and upon proceeding am met with a blank new document in the size of the file I had saved. A majority of previous files open with no problem and all have the same .ai extension and show the preview. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I'm not sure what caused this issue and I haven't run into in previously. Thank you.
I have attached photos of the screen that appears upon opening the .ai files in illustrator.

I apologize but I'm not sure what a networked volume is. With that being
said I'm pretty sure that I didn't save them to a networked volume. I
created a new file, edited the file, saved the file onto my hard drive
along with many other ai files then closed the program. Upon reopening the
program and attempting to open file, open recent file, and creating a new
document then placing my ai file with no resolution.

  • Can I increase the "Open Recent Files" to more than 10?

I haven't been able to figure out how to get more than ten file options
    FILE> OPEN RECENT FILES
I tried Preferences and searching the library.

Settings like this one should be available in the programme preferences dialog.
Yes, you can do a lot by editing the somewhat hidden AIPrefs file, but isn't that pretty archaic … ?

  • 'Open Recent' doesn't display recent files

    Hi,
When I open Pages and choose 'Open Recent' it always says Clear Menu. That's it. No names of recent files, no matter how many files I've recently created/worked on. How do I activate it?

What do you have set in System Preferences > Appearance > Number of recent items > Documents? I've read that that setting can affect Pages. I have System Preferences set at 20 & that is what I get in File > Open recent in Pages. Changing it to 5 doesn't affect the Pages list, even restarting Pages doesn't affect it. You may need to restart your Mac for the change to take effect.

  • TextEdit "Open Recent" list contains a folder I can't open

In TextEdit I went from File > Open Recent > … and noticed in that list a folder icon, titled: ".de0146.000"!
Puzzled, I tried to open it, and naturally got an error message saying that TextEdit cannot open a file in the "Folder" format. So I tried using Spotlight to find where it is, but spotlight cannot find it.
    What is this thing?
How did it get into my "Recent" list?
    Is it anything suspicious?

Thanks for your help and patience WZZZ. I've been away.
1.) I got EasyFind. I'm usually scared of new downloaded software so that's been a useful "adventure" for me.
2.) EasyFind showed it as located in " ./Desktop/RADIO "— a folder in which I file downloaded audio files from Radio Podcasts etc.
But when I selected Reveal in Finder I could not find it in that "RADIO" file, so I presume it was an invisible Folder after all. Its size was simply shown in EF as "--", presumably zero.
I could not copy the line in EF so I hope this adequately answers your question.
3.) I did destroy it from EasyFind as you suggested.
So this whole thing has been a valuable learning curve for me throughout, and as it has been my first foray into using an internet Forum ever, you have been great in boosting my confidence in that area too.
A very special thanks to you.

  • "Open recent..." menu always empty

    Hi,
since i run Mac OS X Leopard the File > "Open recent..." menu is always empty although i have set the number of Recent items to 15 in System Preferences.
I thought this could be due to permission problems but Disk Utility claims that everything is alright.
I highly appreciate any ideas to solve this, because this is really annoying.
    Thanks

IIRC, you have to set that within each application, using this Terminal command:
*defaults write com.XXXX."name of app" NSRecentDocumentsLimit YYY*
where XXX = company, "name of app" = self explanatory, and YYY is the desired integer value. E.g., for TextEdit, I used:
    *defaults write com.apple.textedit NSRecentDocumentsLimit 30*
Relaunching TextEdit and you'll see File->Open Recent->shows last 30 opened documents.
