Where did DW put the site definitions?

Hi all.  Just started with DW in CS 5.5, and I'm perplexed as to where it put the definitions for two sites I created.  The directories that correspond to the two sites reside on an external drive.  I took the drive and plugged it into another machine, launched Dreamweaver, and tried to open the sites there.  Nope.  I would expect the definitions to have been stored in the corresponding directories, along with the source files for the site (to accommodate this very scenario).
Where are they?  Can I move them to the source directories on the external drive and access them on multiple machines without a hassle?  If not, DW is out.
Thanks!

Yes, sorry - it was a shot from the hip.
Where are the .ste files though?  I'd rather not have to continually synchronize files between machines by importing and exporting.  Why not just store the site definitions with the site contents?
There are NO *.ste files until you export them.  Then they go where you selected as the destination for them.  Once you have defined a site and exported the definition, there would be no need to ever export again unless you changed something in the definition.
You'd have to ask your other question of the DW Dev team.

  • Where did Automator put the text from my mail messages?

    Hi,
I just used Automator for the first time to gather a bunch of e-mail addresses, then put them into one text file.
There were two actions I used, Get Specified Mail Messages and Combine Mail Messages.
Automator says Workflow Execution Completed. Great! Now I want to open this text file and print it.
Any ideas where to find the text?
    Thanks.

    To La La land
You need to add New Text File action from TextEdit Library.
You the specify the file name and location for it.

  • Just where ARE the site definition files?

I've just received CS4.  I want to move it to my more powerful laptop when I install it.  I know how to do that and I can move site files, but where are the site definition files?  I really don't want to have to set up each site from scratch.  Is there one (or more) files that are the name, url, location, id, password etc for each of the (many) sites in CS3?
    don Carlos

To import/export site definitions (not site files):
    On the old computer:
    Site > Manage Sites
Shift click to highlight all site names
    Export..
Same procedure on new computer then Import..

  • Where is the site definitions?

I had to reformat my hard drive, but I do have a backup. I
re-installed DW-CS4, and would like to restore the site
definitions, as I have several and don't want to have to start from
    scratch.

The problem is that the site definitions (not the site files
    - the
DEFINITIONS for the site) are saved in the Windows Registry,
    and to get at
them, you need to boot from the drive (there are utilities
    that might help
you - I cannot vouch for them, though). If you have not
    exported them and
saved the export files, you will have to redefine each site,
    most likely.

  • How do I manually recreate the site definition (.ste) for an existing site?

My iMac hard drive recently failed and had to be replaced.
Though I had backed up my web site files, I don't have a backup of the site's Site Management (*.ste) file.
Thus, I'm unable to manage this site in Dreamweaver (reinstalled on the new hard drive).
In some forum threads, there are references to "manually recreating the site definition." How do I do this?
    Thanks!

    paintwlight wrote the following:
Does Putting the site to the remote server constitute an Export, whereby a .ste file would have been created during the Put process and, therefore, exist on the remote server?
No. Hit F1 and search for Export.
If so, I assume that if I copy the .ste file currently on the remote server and save it locally (into Library:Application Support:Adobe:Common:9:Sites:Site Prefs), all will be well and Dreamweaver will once again be able to manage the site.
DW can manage the site after you have defined the site as mentioned
earlier. It does not need the .ste files at all. Those are created by
the user via the Export feature and are not used by DW itself.
Gosh, I wish I would have known about the .ste file before my hard drive died. This seems like way too much responsibility to put on one teeny tiny little file -- especially one that's not kept with the rest of the web site files.
The .ste file contains only the paths to your site and the login
information - if you choose to include that information. It does not
contain any of the actual files. DW does not act as a backup or archival
program. You need to keep backups of your entire site (including source
files used to create the site, such as Photoshop/Fireworks layered
images, Flash .fla files, etc...) as well as backups of the .ste files.

  • How do you open the site definition in Sharepoint Designer?

    Hi,
I am looking to open this to try to edit it. Where is it and how do you open it?
    Thanks

    Hi,
According to your post, my understanding is that you wanted to edit the site definition in SharePoint Designer.
A site definition is a collection of files stored on the server used for all new sites and templates created in SharePoint.
They provide preconfigured lists, Web Parts, navigation bars, features, and so on for each site.
The role of the site definition becomes especially important the next time you perform server-wide maintenance, for example upgrading the server, applying a solution upgrade, or a branding exercise.
Not only is the site definition updated, but all the pages associated with it are updated, which keeps them consistent and easily manageable.
Microsoft SharePoint Designer 2010 is a Web and application design program used to design, build, and customize Web sites running on SharePoint Foundation 2010 and Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010. With SharePoint Designer 2010, you can create data-rich
Web pages, build powerful workflow-enabled solutions, and design the look and feel of your site.

  • Why is the iPad inserting letters like vs and bs into the text of my emails? And how do I correctbthis frustration?   I did not put the b after the word correct.

When I put text into something it inserts bs and vs intonthe text and other letters which I do not put in there.  I must constantly go back and fix what I wrote .  Please see the beginning of this...  I did not put the "n" into the text it just appeared there.  How do I fix this problem? Thank you

This can happen if your other fingers accidentally touch the screen when you are typing. Check to see if you are doing this. "v", "b", and "n" on the keyboard are quite close to where your thumbs might be when you are typing.

What model is your iPad? (iPad, iPad 2 or New iPad). Did you get the AT&T or Verizon model? If you got the Verizon model, it doesn't have a SIM slot.

  • Where should I put the sevlet

I just started to work with Tomcat and I compiled the helloWorld sevlet.
It's said from a book that the sevlet should be placed in serlver_root/webapps/ROOT/WEB-INF/classes, however there isn't a "classes" folder in my WEB-INF folder. So I put the helloWorld sevlet in the WEB-INF folder.
Then I type http://localhost:8080/servlet/helloworld in my browser, I get a message from the sever said "The requested resource (/servlet/HelloWorld) is not available".
Could anybody tell me how can solve this prolbem, where should I put the sevelt?

have ones more a look to your book - especially to information about the configuration file "web.xml" which also should be placed in the WEB-INF folder. This file defines which servlets should be found by the server and which request-URL should be mapped to this servlet.
for examples concerning the web.xml file see those already defined in your server. copy one and edit it for your needs. if you really want to understand what else might be configured using web.xml see the DTD for this file - it's pretty good documented!
    hope it helps :)

  • Where Should I put the time capsule?

Where Should I put the time capsule?
I'm using a wireless modem/router provided by the internet company, and both (the TC and the router) are located next to the pc, in the living room . Using this way, I don't have signal in my bedroom. Should I get a signal amplifier?
    Thanks!

It would be better to use EOP adapters (homeplug is another name) or ethernet to locate the TC closer to your room.. you can use another apple router to extend the wireless if you need to.

  • Regarding the Site Definition in Sharepoint 2010

    Hi Forum,
I am working on sharepoint 2010,
I created SiteDefinition through visual studio in Sharepoint 2010, after deploy in sitedefinition.
I got new features to add in that existing sitedefinition. Can you please tell me how to proceed.
I am thinking i can use FeatureStapling or any other way?
please assist me regarding this issue.
    Rama

    Hi Rama,
Feature Stapling  is the great way if the site definition is already in use (and sites have been created).
