Where did ibox come from that recently showed up on Firefox on my iMac computer and is it a virus?

inbox recently appeared on Firefox on my iMac computer as a search engine. I don't know where it came from or if it might be a virus? Is inbox a Mozilla program? Should I get rid of it?

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
A Reset is probably working as well for this issue with either the search engines and/or preferences.
See "Creating a profile":
*https://support.mozilla.org/kb/reset-firefox-easily-fix-most-problems
*http://kb.mozillazine.org/Standard_diagnostic_-_Firefox#Profile_issues
When you reset Firefox then a new profile is created and some personal data (bookmarks, history, cookies, passwords, form data) is automatically imported and the current profile folder will be moved to an "Old Firefox Data" folder on the desktop.
Installed extensions and other customizations (toolbars, prefs) that you have made are lost and need to be redone.
It is possible to recover more data from the old profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over the problem.
If the new profile works then you can possibly transfer more files from an existing profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over the problem.

Roger,
The icon is +Sections, not just Sections, as in "Add a Section". When you click that icon you get a section break and and a new section template, complete with preformatted text called placeholder text. The reason "Lorem ipsum" is there is so you can see what the format looks like. The reason that it is Latin gibberish is so you won't get hung up on, or distracted by, what it says. It's just a display of format. Select the "Lorem ipsum" text and start typing your content.

• "Boot OSX" drive, where did it come from?

I have an intel xserve with 1 80gb drive (for booting) and 2 750bg drives mirrored(via software) as my DATA drive.
After I initially set this up, there was one "BOOT" drive and one "DATA" drive on the desktop.
I recently logged into the server via ARD and noticed there was a third drive now, named "Boot OSX".
I, nor any of my staff, installed or created this drive(volume).
It appears to be part of the mirror raid, but where did it come from???

FWIW, I saw this shortly after installing Leopard and initially thought it was an external drive I set up as backup. It was only later that I realized that I didn't have the external drive plugged in when I saw "Boot OSX" on my desktop.
Tonight, I saw it again, googled, and found this thread. Could this have anything to do with Software Update? Software Update let me know I needed to install some updates. I clicked on details and ended up minimizing the application to install them later. After twiddling around with some other things I noticed the "Boot OSX" on my desktop, again. I went ahead and let Software Update "do it's thing" and after a reboot, like the other posters in this thread, it was gone.
So ... as I asked, earlier, could this have something to do with Software Update?

• IPhoto 6 "found" old photos - where did they come from?

When I opened iPhoto 6 for the first time, it updated my iPhoto library just fine. In the process a dialog opened saying it found 134 photos from somewhere, and asked if I wanted to import them. When I said YES, it created a new album and imported those 134 photos into it.
The photos ended up being old photos (2-4 years old) that I thought I had deleted a long time ago, many of my ex-wife during holidays and a vacation 3 years ago! Where did they come from? Needless to say, my new fiancee wondered why I had old photos of the ex! I thiought they were gone.
I used Spotlight to search for "IMG_0...) and found many old photos I had deleted! I do not have an old iPhoto libraray on my PowerBook G4, but the photos were still there in folders, deep inside iPhotos filing system. I deleted all the ones I needed to, all by hand within the Finder.
What happened?

I had well over 2,000 photos recovered... Also ranging from 5 years old to this past month.
There was no clear answer but the photos were recovered in large chunks (300 from December, 400 from March, 600 from January, etc...)..
The entire time I has iPhoto 5, it never worked properly (always crashed) so a lot of these photos clearly were photos not properly saved in iPhoto 5.
However, I don't see them in my main library. How do I move them from recovered to the Library?

Why is it they claim to sell you something they do NOT intend on allowing you access to for the life of your account?
It is not Apple that decides this. Since Apple is just the retailer, they do not own the copyrights to the content they sell on the iTunes store, if the copyright owner decides to remove something from the store that you have purchased Apple must abide by the terms of their licenseing agreements and remove it. Regretablly this also removes the items from your purchase history. This is why it is up to you to download and backup all of your purchases if you wish to maintain your investment.
In the Apple KB article Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore and iTunes Store, and in many other places, it is clearly stated:
It is recommended that you always back up your iTunes library in the event that a purchased item is no longer available on the iTunes Store. For more information about backing up your library, see this article.

• BaseSystempkg folders? Where did these come from?

Hello everyone,
This morning I formatted my hard drive and reinstalled Leopard from my DVD disc. After installing OS X I noticed three folders in my Macintosh folder, BaseSystempkg.146tc7TE9, BaseSystempkg.... I have reinstalled Leopard OS X before and have never noticed these folders. Where did they come from and should I be concerned?

Those folders appear to have been left behind by the Mac OS X 10.5 installer, and can safely be deleted. They were supposed to have been cleaned up after the installation.

Sophos anti-virus found this little bugger (Troj/ByteVer-G) in my Mac. It's a Windows-only trojan stored in the java cache folder. I'd like to know where it came from. I do not download pirated software, I don't click suspicious links on Web pages, I do not receive spam or strange email attachments... where did it came from?

It could have come from some random web site and/or ad.
It could simply be an error on the part of Sophos.
The easiest way to get rid of the problem is get rid of Sophos.

• Wrong IP address. Where did it come from?

I recently started having some slow internet problems and called Time Warner to see what was going on. After some diagnostics it was discovered that they did not support my IP address that was showing up in System Preferences under Network. I do not know where the incorrect IP address came from. I did change about 6-8 months ago to TWC and have updated to Snow Leopard too. Anyway it seems that the only way I can now get the correct IP address to show up the DHCP manual option. The other IP address will not disappear otherwise. Why is this? How come the computer will not automatically detect the correct IP address? How can I correct this? How come all of a sudden this became an issue? By the way I am updated to 10.6.2

Just to follow-up on this and my curiosity.
When Time Warner was trying to diagnose my slow internet it was discovered that an invalid or an IP address not supported by them was showing up in System Preferences - Network. However, they did say the correct and supported IP address was being "seen" by them. They also had me go to the web site whatismyipaddress.com and the correct IP address was there.
OK - now why under network was an invalid address showing up. We tried a restart and still it is the only IP address showing up, the correct IP address does not show up anywhere. The only way to insert the correct IP address was to use the DHCP manual option.
How can I get my computer to get rid of that old address? Could it be from an old provider? I do not know but I am curious. Again, I know nothing of this stuff except what I learned since yesterday.
My setup - my modem is connected via ethernet directly to the computer. I do have an Airport extreme also connected to the modem where I use it for my Apple Tv and Playstation 3. I do have an other ethernet connection running from my Airport to a Directv DVR and/or Panasonic Blu-ray depending upon my needs.
Curious ....
