Where did import from camera go?

I need to import from Camera... It is gone.. where did it go... I archive my video to an external disk and import what I need. The feature seems to be missing or gone.. where did it go?

Following up on Mr Cude's post... you can also access thru the import icon. You will see "cameras" show up in a list along with desktop, HD's, etc.

  • Opened Trial, keeps crashing on import from camera of AVCHD

    Hi
I have a MBP 15" 2.66ghz running 10.6.8 with the NVIDIA GeForce GT 33M graphics card (also has the Intel HD Graphics card). I want to import .mts files from a Panasonic GH2 of interviews and location shots.
I'm basically following a Larry Jordan video: where he opens FCPX, creates an event and imports from camera. He's importing AVCHD clips and I watch as he chooses a folder which comtains ONE folder, titled 'Private'. He clicks on Private, clips appear and he chooses options and clicks import.
I did the exact same thing. Of course, AVCHD folders normally contain 3 folders one of which is named 'Private', but since he choose it I did too. There were 4 clips I selected to import without choosing Optimizing or any of the options on the dropdown. I quickly saw no progress was being made and within seconds the ball started spinning and I had to force close.
So I tried with one file--crashed. Tried choosing the folder with 3 folders including Private and copying one file--crashed. Finder too became dysfunctional and I had to force shutdown and restart several times.
Finally, when I started up FCPX wouldn't open. I had wanted to try transcoding one file. While I wait to give it a whirl:
    Is it the .mts files?
Is it my graphics card or processor?
I checked FCPX Prefs but didn't see an indicator of ram being used, I have 8gb and would allocate all if helpful. Is it likely to transcode with ease?
ps I also have FCS and Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.0.0.

Yep, thx, excellent idea. In sys prefs one can do that--done.
I also did some testing to replicate problem: new user, safe mode. Crashes kept occurring.
WHAT WORKED and has made a demonstrable difference: Unchecking background rendering in prefs and pausing rendering in that little pop-up window that shows background activities while importing.
Immediately, I could import more files, tho so far I've only tried one at a time. Today I will try multiple file imports at same time.
I wonder what else I can do to limit FCPX ******* around while I import?
STILL CAN"T IMPORT long files, 24-min or 30-min files, without it crashing. Tho I come awfully close, 80%+, even 90%+ before stopping. Usually, it says 'import failed" and "try re-importing' and when I do that it crashes. I will try again, if still no success I will consider importing sections of one file. Some interviews are 1 hour+.
WILL EVENT SIZE cause crashes as my ability to import grows. That's what happens with Premiere Pro.
RESTABILIZING FINDER (Can a brother get a hand): Part of the problem post crash is that Finder is affected: Often I have to force shutdowns, attached drives can't be detached, even "Finder not responding". If my FCPX prefs get corrupted the same could happen to some Finder prefs.
FINDER HELP: After what I described, what prefs could I trash or other actions take to help Finder?
Thanks again for your help, Tom!! All the best!

  • Importing from camera - Automatic vs. Manual

I'm importing DV tapes using my Sony DV camera and my imac into iMovie - things are working fine except when my 1 hour tapes finish the import there are sections of the imported video that are fine and other sections that are imported as separate frames. Then it will pick back up again.
I thought this was an issue with time code breaks on the tape but I've read that iMovie doesn't recognize time codes so I'm planning to try the Manual option that the Import from Camera feature offers but until then I thought I would post on here to see if anyone is familiar with this issue -
I can explain further if needed. I'll check back to see responses in about an hour.

Ok, I'm currently importing an hour DV tape from my Sony came to iMovie on my mac. I'll see how it turns out -
I went back and erased the other video files from the my movies folder that I had previously imported because it was taking up alot of space and iMovie was running slow and I noticed in there that it had saved all of these thumb nails in addition to little short clips, and it saved all of the import as hundreds of .mov clips -
so something crazy was definitely going on with the automatic import that i did first.
as I'm watching it import, there are definitely imperfections on the tape as it's from a few years ago and was in some heat from being on vacation when I was taking the video, but the way it imported before couldn't have had anything to do with the imperfections on the tape - or at least there should be some setting where it basically just takes in the video exactly how it plays out on the VCR function on the camera or as it would if you hooked the camera up to your TV and played the DV tape out -
I'm not sure I understand totally what dropped frames are all about, but if iMovie doesn't detect or record or take in time codes then I wouldn't think it would pick up on dropped frames.
    maybe I'm wrong

  • When importing from camera into aperture, photo's are also copied to my desktop, if i delete from desktop i am unable to edit photo in aperture. Must have done something, but what?

When importing from camera into aperture, photo's are also copied to my desktop, if i delete from desktop i am unable to edit photo in aperture. Must have done something, but what?

Have a look at your import setting specifically Store Files:
Make sure it is set to where you want the originals to go.
Message was edited by: Frank Caggiano - Don;t empty the system trash. The originals that you deleted from the Desktop are in there and are the only copies you have unless they are still in the camera.

  • Import from camera

Any idea how to import from a camera these days? In Aperture it found the camera automatically and you could select photos and import.
With Photos it seems that if I go to File > Import I can find my camera shown as an external drive but I can't then choose a sub folder so I can't seem to import any photos that way.
The way I'm doing it at the moment is through Finder - dragging and dropping onto the desktop and then importing that way.

Importing from cameras should work just as it did in iPhoto. As LarryHN points out, if it doesn't, let us know exactly what is occurring.
IF you have not yet done so, enable Sidebar (from the View menu). This will list the connected camera under the Devices group. When you select your camera, confirm that the Open Photos... option is checked.

  • Cannot import from cameras

Hi. LR 4.4. Mac OS X 10.9.5. Sudden problem: LR does not find files to import from cameras. I read some similar problems here so: Changed cable. Changed cameras. LR FINDs the cameras and identifies them correctly. But when I hit import, in bottom left corner it says "finding files", circle rotating indefinitely and nothing shows up. I deleted LR preference file. Started new catalog. Strangely, if interestingly, it did then ONCE find 5 of 100 pix on my Nikon D7000, but not the other 95 photos, and still nothing on the Canon Powershot G7X.  It can import from the hard drive. Frustrating! Thanks for any suggestions. ---DG

yes, SS, that's what I'm doing and of course I can't FIND the card reader! Good idea though...

  • Imovie 11 crashes when i choose 'import from camera'.

suddenly, imovie 11 9.0.4 crashes when i choose 'import from camera'. never happened before, always worked fine. driving me crazy! can anyone help? i tried to delete the plists, did disk permissions, etc etc. am running 10.6.8, haven't changed anything except to delete a bunch of old projects.
can i just reinstall imovie from the install disk?
    thank you!

Open console in Applications>Utilities, check the system log for the date/time of the last problem  & the Startup right after that for clues.
    Also look for crash Logs>iMovie.

  • Change import from camera destination default?

    Hi,
Is these a way to change the "import from camera" destination defaults? I typically want to put new imports into new directory, and it would be helpful to specify a default parent directory.
    Thanks. Kent

When I went to the Audio Midi setup, bit showed that the default audio output was already set to 44100hZ. I tried the camera again, no luck.
It is interesting that if I create a new project, it too will open with the filename and then (iSight) in brackets behind it - as if that is some type of preference setting, but I can't understand where it came from.
I couldn't see anything in the article.
    Any other ideas?
    Thanks,
    Cheryl

  • IMovie'08 (7.1) Crashes during Import from Camera

Well, it is hard to say simpler then the subject line of this posting... iMovie'08 (7.1) Crashes during Import from Camera (PANASONIC PV-GS500). I use 24GHz MacBook Pro with 4Gig of RAM. Importing to OWC 500Gig RAID drive, as well as to the internal 200Gig 7200 RPM drive. So it certainly looks like not because of hardware. I tried to remove DIVX and Pearl plugins from QT folder in Library as it was suggested in previous postings to no success. It seems like I am not the only one with this problem here. If iMovie cannot import from camera then what is it good for? By the way, the previous version of iMovie works fine importing etc. Did I just wasted $79.00? Anybody knows the solution? I hope somebody can help.

    FOUND FIX
I found this fix in another thread post. iMovie 7 appears to be bugged, but you can import movies if you download iMovie6 HD. It's apparently free from apple for iLife 08 users.
Here's the link so you can download it.
    http://supportdownload.apple.com/download.info.apple.com/AppleSupport_Area/Apple_Software_Updates/Mac_OSX/downloads/061-3532.20070807.nq3ER/iMovieHD6.dmg
Hours spent trying all sorts and iMovie HD ... just seems to work. Someone suggested that I use an external HD to improve performance. Just make sure you don't use Fat32 because it bombs when the file size gets to 2GB lol. It's a limitation of the Fat32 format. Since you can't access NTFS directly, you're a bit stuffed if you want to use the external HD with you Mac and PC. Either format it for your mac or your pc.

  • Import from Camera Screen - cut off

    Folks,
I am trying tom import from my Sony DCR-DVD201 camcorder. I can import fine, but the "Import from Camera screen" is cutoff and black for the first 3/4 of the screen -- I can see only the very bottom edges of the video clips.
I can still import, but is there a fix/setting for this issue?

i have this bug too. resizing the window, and then hitting play will show the whole window. i have a Panasonic HDC-SD7. it works, but a very annoying.

  • Originals auto modified on import from camera

I discovered that iPhoto has modified a lot of my pictures when importing from camera. Not only vertical photos (bacause of auto rotate I believe) but also landscape. Mostly photos with high contrast or too dark/too light photos are modified and enhanced. This makes me angry! I usually export photos to modify in PS and this way I do not work with the original! I suppose the modified version is not lossless.
I can't find out how to turn off this auto modifying.
    Any suggestions?

    hansik:
Are you aware that you can have iPhoto use PS as the default editor? The edited version is saved in the Modified folder and the originals never get touched. The only caveat is that you do not change the extension or file name. If you need to do either then you do a Save As to the desktop and then import as a new file.
Are you concerned about the thumbnail size increase due to HD space issues? There is a way to have your source files on an external HD and only have aliases, thumbnails and the modified files on your PB. My 27G (15,600+ files) of image files on my second HD are represented by a 1.75 G iPhoto library on my boot drive. When the external drive is not connected the library is still operational on a limited basis: you can view thumbnails, create, delete and move album folders, add comments and, with some hassle but doable, add keywords. You can't edit, work with books, slideshow, etc. or anything that requires moving thumbnails. Once the HD is remounted the library is fully functional again. Great for laptops with limited space.

  • Hang during import from camera or media - HELP!

iPhoto hangs during import from camera or media reader. Works for 20 or more photos, then hangs. No response at all. Must force quit. After restarting the import, it will go further the next time, then hang again. And again. And again. Eventually the import completes. After that, all is OK until next import. VERY FRUSTRATING. Especially with 8GB media cards. ARRGH!
I've tried rebuilding iPhoto library (all options). Using iPhoto 7.1.5 on OS X 10.5.6. 4GB ram, intel dual core.
Help me Obe-Wan. You're my only hope.

    LarryHN wrote:
Once you get your photos use your camera to reformat your media card - problems like this can be caused by a flaw in the card format
And it is better to use a card reader to import yoru photos and after they are safely in iPhoto use your camera to reformat your card - this assues no data loss and keeps your card format fresh
    LN
I usually use the media reader. After the imports started hanging is when I tried importing direct from the camera to see if it made a difference. No difference.
I've reformatted the media. No difference. Still hangs on first import after reformat. Multiple media cards, all same result. Tried different USB ports, same result. Tried different media readers. Same result.

  • Why does the "Import from Camera" selection open up iSight instead of my camera?

My Sony Cyber-Shot is connected my iMac through the included USB. About an hour - two hours ago I clicked on the Import from Camera option and it showed my videos recorded using my camera, but now when I click the option it opens up the built in iSight instead. Can someone please help me? How can I get it to open up my camera video files instead of iSight?

I don't have the Sony, but on my Canon you have to have the camera in "play" mode and when you plug in the usb the camera asks to what do you want the camera to connect. You choose "computer." In other words, it makes a difference in what order you connect things.

  • "Import from camera" doen't work

I want to import movies from mi iPhone 4S and the "import from camera" option doesn't work. When I click de button (or pressing cmd+I, or going to archive > import from camera) the arrow turns to the colored beach ball of death and the aplication doesn't response.
Any solution? If I import videos from archives there's any problem, but I want to import videos from my iPhone 4S

Yes, I tried with iMovie 11 and it works perfectly, I can import videos from my iPhone 4S without any problem. But with Final Cut Pro X I got this problem
I don't know what to do, I tried to repair permissions, erase the events folder... And nothing, the problem stills there
I can use iMovie and then import from Final Cut, but it's a double work. I want to use this option in Final Cut

    ps
i got a backup for the files but even if they are on the mmc, when camera is connected fcpx doesn't see them. if i try to import a new shoot it works!!

Thx a lot Salty. As you suggest I found other staff on support pages. I deleted AVCHD structure and kept only .mts... Now what I need to do is to convert those files with handbrake or similar tool in .mp4 or .mov to make them digest to FCPX.
