Where did my backup data go?

I restored my iphone after upgrading its software. When I plugged the phone into iTunes, I set it as a "new phone" instead of my backup. Now I cannot find my back-up data.

Is there any other way to locate data on the Time Capsule hard drive that Time Machine put there? Entering Time Machine doesn't find any backups. Can I use Disk Utility to analyze the TC hard drive? I've tried using the Finder to locate the 800 GB which is supposed to be there.  Should I send the Time Capsule off to a data recovery company, as recommended by AppleCare?
Thanks.

where did this backup window come from on my desktop. To check your S.M.A.R.T status open disk utility and click on your drive and then click on the info icon.

  • Where did my backup go?

So i decided to update itunes and ios on my iphone 4 using my old laptop as my current one kept giving me an error saying the session could not be started.
when i first connected my phone to my old laptop, i specifically did a manual backup and it took quite a while but was apparently successful.  so ahead i go and download itunes and the new ios, install everything and then i get a "an unknown error (-50) has occurred" ARGH! so i click ok, and it wants to restore. except the back up i did is not there?????????? where did it go? have i lost it forever?? the last backup on that laptop was in april, so i've just lost a good 6months worth of apps, data, contacts, messages, pictures etc.
is there any way i can get it back??? please help!!!

See error -50 here >  iTunes: Possible iTunes Store errors
Backups are stored in iTunes / Preferences - Devices

  • Where did Sort by Date go?

It used to have "sort by date" when you search on this site?
    Now it's gone:(
I think it should be put back in cause it gives the most current date compared to sort by relevance
    what do yall think?

convenience, instead of moving away from it? :PSome people think it's convenient to have all of the possible search options shown to them at once. Other people think it's confusing, and they'd just like to have the simple ones shown to them. From the posts I see here I would guess that there are people from both camps on this forum (although the ones who would find it confusing generally can't even find it). Perhaps Sun surveyed their users before making this change, or perhaps some people had a meeting and discussed the problem in the abstract. Who knows?

  • My iPhone 5 was restored from backup, and while it was restoring everything else all my pictures slowly went from 900 to none. where did they go and how do I get them back?

My iPhone has been acting very strange lately and the only way to get it to turn on and function is to restore it. I restored it from a backup of my phone before I restored it. I was mostly worried about my pictures. I was relieved to see them all there,
until the number of photos in my camera roll and other albums began to go down. soon enough, all the pictures I had restored were deleted. where did they go and how can I get them back?

    Hi bluegrandpanash,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If you backed up your iPhone to iCloud before updating the software, first try the steps under "Restore from an iCloud backup" in this article to recover your data:

    Hi, Abril_Perez17.
This may be related to a new feature embedded in iOS7 that shows all purchased music by default.  Go to Settings > Music, then turn off Show All Music.  See if the issue ceases once the feature has been disabled.  This information is located on page 63 of the user guide below.

  • Backed-up my iphone data on itunes and now i dont know where to find it. Where do i go to retrieve my iphone backup data?

I just Backed-up my iphone data on itunes and now i dont know where to find it. Where do i go to retrieve my iphone backup data?

    You don't "retrieve it"
You can restore your iphone from the last backup to put the info back on the iphone.

  • How to backup data when hard drive is failing.

I think my hard drive is failing..
I booted using Install DVD, and got message in Disc Utility that "this drive has a hardware problem that can't be repaired." It mentioned I should backup data and consult apple representative..
I clicked on Macintosh HD under the red physical drive (500.11 GB Hitachi HTS) and did disc repair.
Strangely, the message went away on the physical drive when I finished.  It turned back to black wording and gave green "verified/repaired" messages in the log.
I am still able to boot my macbook, although everything is running slowly... Desktop excel files take 15 mins to open.
Does this still sound like a failing hard drive?
I am trying to act fast and borrowed my sister's external harddrive/ "passport for mac", and it slowly prompted a time machine backup. It is slowly working through "8.34GB of 200.33GB"
I do not really understand what I am doing, but hoping this is the right move. Could someone explain what time machine will do or how it will help?
Is there any chance I will harm her external hd?
I am mostly worried about iPhoto and itunes library, iMovie projects, and important excel spreadsheets on my desktop. Is time machine looking after these concerns?
    Any help greatly appreciated.

    Where is you TM backup?
Where are your external data redundancies?
Now you will need to use very expensive data recovery experts to recover data when you could have had it safely on a $100 worth of 2 external HD.
Mechanical HD failure circumvents using recovery software.......so,  now you backed yourself into a corner and needed expensive data expert recovery.
You took a wrong turn a long while back before reaching this cliff edge.
that wrong term was not having (preferably 2) external HD as a redundant data archive.

  • I did a backup on my iPod touch and it said it worked...but now it won't let me access anything and says "iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode.  You must restore this IPod before it can be used."  I will lose all my videos and pics if I do that

I did a backup on my iPod touch last night and it said it worked...I wanted to make sure my 1100 pictures and videos, mostly of my son, were safe since we rarely use the iPod touch anymore since we bought an iPad...I can't find them or I have no idea how to access them...I do not have a MAC...I have an HP computer with windows...
Now when I try to use my iTunes a message comes up that says my iPod is on recovery mode and has to do a restore to use my iTunes again...so when u click on that it states that pushing that button will restore my iPod touch to its factory settings...which means I will lose all my data...which I CANNOT do bc the videos of my son are some of his first words, first giggles, etc.
Now my iPod is stuck on a screen with a picture of a USB cord and an iTunes icon... and holding the power and push buttons down at the same time does nothing except bring up the apple icon for a moment and then it goes right back to the USB and iTunes icon
When I called Apple they said in order to talk to tech support I had to pay a fee of 19 dollars...which I think is kind of crap...I paid over 300 dollars for this and all I want is somebody to help me access my pics...I have done nothing wrong...this iPod was never dropped and never broke...I did the backup like I was supposed to and now I have an IPod touch that does nothing, and if my library of pics and videos are on my computer, I have no clue where or how to view them or back them up onto DVD....
I'm very upset and frustrated...please help!!!

You should really read the manual.
"How do you restore from backup? "
Restore.  When given the choice, choose to use backup.
"And how can I check to see if the pics and videos are on my computer somewhere first??"
They would only be where you put them.  What program did you use to import them?  Pics/vids taken with ipod are not part of the sync process at all.  You should be importing them just as you would with any digital camera.
If you did not import them, then they are not on your computer.

  • Recovering backup data from a previous version of Rescue and Recovery

    Dear All,
can you please advice how can I restore the system&data (Windows 7)
I created recovery CDs and did the full backup (USB drive)
I changed disk (diagnostic reported warnings for the old one)
    I recovered system from CD
I wanted to recover full backup/image from USB drive, however
after reboot R&R 4 starts and error message "... backup taken with previous version..." is displayed.
I wanted to recover single file (R&R 4.31)  from USB drive, however
error message "The list box identifierwas not found"  is displayed
What shall I do? upgrade R&R to 4.51? downgrade R&R to 4 (where are downloads)? something else? what R&R versions exist for W7?
    thanks in advance.

  • Where Did My Notes Go?

...and how do I get them back?
I used my notes during the day at work yesterday, I've got about 100 of them with varying degrees of extremely important information on them.
    iPhone 4s
I got home and iTunes automatically started - a (I guess) automatic wi-fi backup.  I'm okay with this.
Went to look at my notes later in the evening to get some information and they were gone.  100% erased.
I checked iTunes and it is set to backup to Office One Note (2010) but there were no notes in One Note and the check box to force sync from my computer to the iPhone was unchecked.
The iPhone did not give me any notice that it was deleting any files whatsoever from the phone and did not backup the notes to my computer as it is checked to do so in iTunes.
I did not hard connect my phone to my PC at any point.
I have Notes setup to backup to iCloud.  As they are extremely important to me and were vital for me to get moved from my old Touch to the new iPhone I spent about 3 hours ensuring that they all were moved properly and I could see them before I deleted them from my Touch where they had been for the past 2+ years and never had any issues.
Now - HOW DO I GET THEM BACK?  No 'view your files stored on iCloud' option that I see in iTunes or on my iPhone.  Nowhere to see my backups, nowhere to pull the backups which were made to iCloud.  Is there even an iCloud out there doing anything?  I'm extremely frustrated at this point as much of the data can't be recreated from scratch and the entire purpose of iCloud was to give me peace of mind...  and instead something has managed to steal hours of hard work from me without so much as a 'please'.
I've searched Google on this and tried looking through these communities, and it seems like nobody has an answer about how things get properly restored from iCloud, let alone where things like this randomly disappear to or why.
Anyone have any ideas...  at all?

Unfortunately, we are well beyond that point now. Apple was of no use at all, and the ability for Apple to properly back up Notes to non Apple devices is horrendous.  Apparently because I made the notes BEFORE iCloud, and iCloud didn't have those notes on them, and for whatever reason, was not able to properly sync up, it instead decided to automatically delete the notes from my iPhone.
A 'backup' restoration of my iPhone did not help at all, and in fact, ended up deleting about fifty photos which I will never be able to get back again.
The willingness of Apple engineers to happily delete content off of my phone without any warning, and without my consent has left a very sour taste in my mouth about their intelligence and design process.  You would think that a backup would mean just that, but apparently in Apple speak, backup means that newer files can be thrown away and if it doesn't properly find older files, it can choose to delete them at will.
Really poor thinking (?) on their part with some of these items.
I know I've seen quite a few people that have wished to restore certain items on their iPhone from backups and because they can only restore ALL or NOTHING - they can't get back what they lose.  In my case, the restore just didn't do a thing.

I want to use it for backing up my Mac.
    It's good for that . . .
But also I don't keep all my stuff in my Mac.
    But not for that.
This older and not day-by-day usage files I want to store in the time machine.
You can do that (see below), but how are you going to back them up?   If your only copies are on the TC, when (not if) it fails, you risk losing your only copy of the data.
Is it possible to split TC in two partitions.
No, but there are some workarounds, including making a fixed-size disk image on it to "reserve" some space.  See #Q3 in Using Time Machine with a Time Capsule.
But you still won't have backups of the stuff you put there.
You don't say what kind of Mac you have.  If it's a desktop model, just keep the external HD connected to it, and let Time Machine back it up along with your internal HD.
However, it sounds like you may have a laptop, where that's not going to be convenient.  In that case, your best bet might be to copy the external HD to a disk image on the TC as above, then keep the HD in a safe place.
To finish, when i enter the TC and go through the Time line how can I get a file from there and move it back to Mac hd.
Via the "Star Wars" display, per #15 in Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions.
You might also want to review the Time Machine Tutorial, and perhaps browse the rest of the FAQ.

  • Deleted an app from Itunes 11 - would like to restore it - where did it go?

Deleted an appfrom Itunes 11 - where did it go? not sure if I checked move to recycle or the other option.  sorry to bother everyone about this but Itunes help is opaque and useless, it seems.

Apple states that it keeps your last 3 iCloud backups, which would only go back a few days if you back up daily.  Also, apps are not stored in the backup, only your app data is.  The backup simply notes which apps were on your phone when it was backed up, then downloads them from the App store when you restore the backup.  If the app is no longer available in the App store, it will not be restored to the phone when you restore the backup.
