Where did my documents go?

Ah! I booted up my iBook today and all the settings (Dock, desktop, screensavers) seemed to have been reset to the way that they were when I first got the computer. My pictures and movies are still there. My Documents seemed to have disappeared. I used spotlight to search for a few of them and it couldn't find them. What happened? I need those documents and the computer is fairly new. I left M$ to avoid things like this.

Did you attempt to rename your Home folder?

  • And where did THIS document go: Portable Product Sheet

Until a few months ago (March 2011, I believe), there was a webpage entitled Portable Product Sheet.  This page is very simple yet they contain very important details about the performance of Cisco appliances.   Then sometime in March or April 2011, someone moved or deleted the webpage.  All there is left is the router performance sheet.
Does anyone know where this very valuable page went?  Can someone from Cisco please restore this?

Thank you for following up with your account manager. It’s important for them to know how much you value this information! Many of these docs may still be available, just not in the single location you found so useful.
There is a creative way that you can access the archived information. Go to the Internet Archive Wayback Machine, enter in the Portable Product Sheet URL, and click the Latest button. You can download the legacy documents from there. Keep in mind, of course, that the versions you get may not reflect the latest information.
    Thanks again,
    Janel

  • HT4910 where did my documents go from .me?

When I moved to icloud I had documents saved in .me...where are they now saved?

They are exactly where they always were, on your iDisk, but the migration process will have signed you out in System Preferences>MobileMe and you will need to sign in again.
You can then mount your iDisk on the Desktop (command-shift-i) and of course you can always access it at http://me.com/idisk .
The contents of your iDisk will be deleted when MobileMe terminates at the end of June, and you should be downloading any files you don't also have on your Mac as soon as possible.

  • Migration from MobileMe to iCloud - where did my documents go?

When I bought the new iPhone 4S, I was instructed to move all of my MobileMe content to iCloud; however, I'm now missing my files as well as my websites.  Can someone please help?  Thanks!

Your files and websites are still on the iDisk: iCloud does not do general file storage nor website hosting.
You can still access them: the migration process has probably signed you out of MobileMe so you will need to go to System Preferences>MobileMe on your Mac or the sign-in location on your iPhone and sign in. On your Mac you will then be able to access your iDisk as before from Finder menu Go>iDisk>My iDisk or on your iPhone from the iDisk app.
Your websites and files will remain on the iDisk until 30 June 2012 when MobileMe will terminate and they will be deleted, so you will need to find alternative hosting before then. This article examines some alternatives:

  • I have pages and now I have lost half my documents where did they go and how do I get them back

I have an IPad and use Pages.  Now half of my documents are gone.  Where did they go and how do I get them back.

If you backup your iPad, then the documents should be in your backup. If you have important documents in any app, you should backup very frequently in the event that something happens so that you can restore them from the backup.
If you use iOS file sharing with iTunes, then the documents might be in your iTunes library.
If you use iCloud with Pages, check in iCloud, com and see if they appear in there. I don't think it is likely that they will be there, if they disappeared from the iPad, but it is worth a try anyway.
In the event that this is some software glitch, try closing the Pages app, reboot the iPad and then launch Pages again.
Tap the home button once. Then tap the home button twice and the recents tray will appear at the bottom of the screen. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the Pages icon. Tap the home button twice.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
If you don't backup, don't use iOS file sharing or don't use iCloud, then most likely your files are gone and you will not be able to retrieve them.

  • I migrated my photos and documents from my PC to my mac mini and now I can't find them where did they go?

I migrated my photos and documents from my PC to my mac mini and now I can't find them.  Where did they go?

    How did you migrate them?

  • My documents and application folders are no longer on the dock, where did they go?

my documents and applications are no lnger on the dock, where did they go, how do I put them back?

Items in your Dock are actually aliases. The original items should be where they always were. The Applications folder is at the top level of your hard drive, and your Documents folder is in your home folder.
To recreate the those items in your Dock, open a Finder window (Finder > File menu > New Finder window.) For your Documents folder, click on the icon on the left of the Finder window that has your username on it next to a house icon. Look for your Documents folder. Drag this folder into the Dock. That places an alias of it in the Dock (the original item remains where it was.)
To get so you can see the Applications folder, click it on the left side of the Finder window, then go to the Go menu and select Enclosing Folder. Now drag the Applications folder from here into the Dock.
That should do it. Best of luck.

  • I just updated to to the most recent version of Pages and now cannot view or open any of my previous documents created before the update.  Where did they disappear to? Can I retrieve them?

I just updated to the most recent version of Pages.  now I can't view or access  any of the documents created in the previous version.  Where did they go? How can I retrieve them?

    Hi cmccloud,
What is the error message you get? If it's telling you to upgrade Numbers but you already have updated, then that means you probably are trying to open the document with the old version, which is still on your Mac, in a sub folder within Applications named iWork '09. Open the document with the Numbers that is in your Applications folder (not the one in a subfolder). It's easy to confuse the two, because the icons are similar.
If you're getting some other error message, could you post specifics?

  • How come all of a sudden when I convert from ExpertPDF to Word, the new Word document is empty!  Another one I tried was all garbled.  Where did the first one go????

I converted to Word from ExportPDF and now my new file is empty??????  Where did everything go??????

    Hi professionalshelley,
Did this occur with a single file?
Please let me know the exact workflow you are following.
Are you trying to access the service from within Reader? If so, please make sure that you have the most current version by choosing Help > Check for Updates (the error you describe can occur with other versions of Reader). If you're accessing it from a website, clear the browser cache and try logging in again. Also, make sure that you're using a supported web browser (System requirements | Acrobat.com).

    really?
    hope this helps someone.

There is no change to this problem after 6 months since the last post. Put simply, and as stated in the previous posts, there is no way to scan a document and receive the image on your PC. If you are working with graphics for any length of time or want to create an image for inclusion as an image in a document or web page using this piece of equipment will not allow you to do so.
Great shame as every other function works well - it cannot be beyond the wit of HP to include a Windows application that enables you to scan an image, receive it in the software you are using at the time (e.g. Outlook, Word, Photoshop...) and use it in your work.
HP Printers several years older than this £1000+ Enterprise printer were able to do this simple job and have done so for a great many years. Just being able to use Microsoft's Fax and Scan would be start.

  • How do I print a mirror image?  Where did the old functionality go?

Within the last several months I was able to print a mirror image of my document to my HP DeskJet F4180 in high resolution. I don't know if it is the new HP drivers, or my new Snow Leopard OS but now I can' figure out how to do it again. I can grab a screen shot in and flip it in Preview but it ends up printing in low resolution.
I have printed mirror images in the past from my PDF applciations and I think from Office 2008 (PowerPoint). I find no documents saved on my hard drive that come up saved as a reverse image so I suspect that I was using a printer feature not an application feature to print mirror images.
    Where did this functionality go?

    Found it!
Use the check box marked Flip Image. Didn't is say mirror before?

  • Where did my book go?

I tapped on a book in my iBook library mad it disappeared and I can't seem to find it

I created a book, and uploaded it to be produced as a hardcover book. Now, I can't find the original file in iPhoto. Where did it go, and can I get the file back from Apple?
I'm not sure what you are looking for
There is not really an original file - and there is not file to get back from Apple - if you want a PDF of the book read this apple support document http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1040

  • Where are my documents?

I just watched all of my documents in Pages disappear on my iPad, now I'm left with a blank new Pages start-up.
Here is what might have happened: I got a new MacBook and downloaded Pages yesterday. Since both of these devices share iCloud, did it replace Pages on my iPad with the new one from my MacBook? If so, WHERE ARE MY DOCUMENTS from my "old" Pages on my iPad? HELP!

No pages on your new Mac is NOT linked to the icloud storage system, hwever if you have connected your iPad to the your new Mac via the USB cable then you may have reset your IPad as a new device in iTunes.
Prior to this did you have the iPad sync'ed with another PC/Mac ?
If so did you back up the IPad on that ?
If you did then you should be able to recover some of the files from that back up.

  • Where has my document gone?

    Please help me!
Two weeks ago I spent a whole day updating and polishing a piece of work. I saved it many times during that day but did not back up to another location after that days work.
Today I wanted to continue this project but I could not find my updated work only the version from before. I have checked asd files and the 'previous versions' section under properties.
The only way I imagine it has been lost is that when I went to shut down I didn't shut down the word separately. I am sure I would have saved it before shutting down just to make sure, but even if I didn't I was saving it as I went through the day. I don't
understand why it isn't there. When I search my computer looking there is nothing in the last modified section- where did it go? Is there anywhere else I might look for it?
I am not a computer wizz, I just have a functional knowledge so please be considerate of this in responding.

    Hi,
Create a new file, can you reproduce the issue that changes are not saved?
Microsoft Word documents can be lost in certain situations. For example, the document may be lost if an error occurs that forces Word to quit, if you experience a power interruption while editing, or if you close the document without saving changes.
You can refer to the kb below, follow the steps such as Search for AutoRecover Files, backup files and temporary files, to find the lost information:

  • When my wife tries to update one of her apps a strange Apple ID pops up. Her Apple ID is correct in settings and in the apple store. What does this mean? Where did the other one come from?

When my wife tries to update one of her apps a strange Apple ID pops up. Her Apple ID is correct in settings and in the apple store. What does this mean? Where did the other one come from?

There is something on your iPhone (a music file, iBook, document or video) that belongs to another Apple ID.  Only your wife would know how that file arrived there.  Your iPhone is asking for the correct Apple ID for all of the files that are resident on the iPhone.
