Where did my image capture go?

I purchased a macbook in '09. For the past few years I have used a memory card reader to install my photos on my computer, because I couldn't figure out why nothing photo related would work on my computer. Now I see that there is no Image Capture on the macbook, and hardware that is older than the computer require it. I tried reinstalling my applications but image capture is not listed as one of them on either CD. I have version 10.5.8 and the CDs are 10.5.6. What should I do? Or is it listed as something hidden?

I'm not sure where to find Image Capture to install it if it is gone.
Try using Spotlight to check if it is really missing from your mac.
Have you tried to use iPhoto to import your pictures?
In iPhoto > Preferences > General > Connecting camera opens:  select iPhoto.
If you find Image Capture you can use the same Preference above to select it.

  • Where did the image go?

When I right-click on a picture and choose "copy image", where do I go to find this image? Thank you in advance for your help.

OK, you probably think I'm a dummy and you aren't too far off when it comes to Apple.
What I'm having problem with is this, I right-click on a photo and then select "copy image" from the drop-down menu, at this point there is nothing telling me to "paste" and I think that's why the photo is not copied.
I do know how to highlight the http:// and then paste to where I want it to go, but if there is the option of "copy image" in the menu, shouldn't it work automatically?

  • WHERE did "Flatten Image" go in Elements 12 in Mavericks?

I cannot put two images together, one over the other, anymore due to Elements 12 now pasting one on top of the other and no way to separate them. I used to select Flatten Image on the first, and then on the whole pair after I pasted in the second image.

Not sure hat you mean. If you've copied image A and paste it into image B it comes in on it's own layer.
Flatten image is the last option on the Layer menu, and the last option if you right-click in the Layers panel.

  • Where did my image go?

When working on an image in cc using either a selection or the cloning tool the image will disappear and flicker and the background outside the image turns from black to a checkerboard, any help would be appreciated.

  • Where did my scanner go? It disappeared from Image Capture

I've been using Image Capture for quite awhile (since HP didn't upgrade their drivers to Lion probably), and suddently, even though my MacBook Pro is on the same wireless network as the printer/scanner (as they have been) the scanner is not showing up in Image Capture. But I can still print. And my dad is still able to scan from his PC to this same scanner. Any thoughts on how I can get it to show up again and start scanning? It's an HP Photosmart C7280.

    Restart the Mac.
Turn off the scanner then turn it back on.
    Launch Image Capture.
Click Shared top left side of the Image Capture window then click Show then click your printer name.
    It should start scanning.

  • How do I print a mirror image?  Where did the old functionality go?

Within the last several months I was able to print a mirror image of my document to my HP DeskJet F4180 in high resolution. I don't know if it is the new HP drivers, or my new Snow Leopard OS but now I can' figure out how to do it again. I can grab a screen shot in and flip it in Preview but it ends up printing in low resolution.
I have printed mirror images in the past from my PDF applciations and I think from Office 2008 (PowerPoint). I find no documents saved on my hard drive that come up saved as a reverse image so I suspect that I was using a printer feature not an application feature to print mirror images.
    Where did this functionality go?

    Found it!
Use the check box marked Flip Image. Didn't is say mirror before?

  • Where are temporary files created for "image capture"?

    Hi all
I have been using image capture with no problem whatsoever, until recently. I was scanning a big file and while it was saving it or something I closed the lid of the computer and interrupted the scan. Now the scanner can do a preview but is no longer able to "scan" the file that i see perfectly through preview. I think that the problem is that there is a corrupt temporary file somewhere that needs to be manually deleted. If you know where such files are stored or if you have a better idea, please let me know.

You may be on to the correct solution. I've seen this problem with a big printing job that a user had to cancel and then had to "go in" and delete the print job before they could print again. On the Mac, there is something called CUPS (something Unix Printing System) and it has a role in printing and I believe faxing. It "might" play a role in scanning through Image Capture but I'm not sure. Anyway give it a look and see if there is an incomplete scan job in there that you can delete.
Note: this looks like a website URL but it leads to CUPS on your Mac.
    http://127.0.0.1:631/jobs/
This may not be applicable to scanners but it's worth a look.

    Steve M.

  • Image Capture-Where is the take picture button?

Hey everyone. I was going to try out the "Take Picture" feature in Image Capture, but for some reason, the button is not there. Nor is it under the customize buttons option. Does it only let you put it there if you are using a supported camera? Thanks for your help.

Yeah, it wasn't me that said the C-3000Z was compatible it was this guy: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=1587926&#1587926
I quite honestly can't verify this, so take it with a grain of salt. Is your situation similar to mine, where you cannot see the button at all, or is yours dimmed?
If the former, please do me a favor. I believe that the C-3000 and C-3020 are essentialy the same camera. Please open automator, select Image Capture, select Take Picture, and plug in your C-3000. Then under Camera status, it should say if it compatible or not, and you will then solve 2 problems for us. Whether the C-3000Z is compatible with Take Picture, and if your and my version of Image Capture is broken!
    Thanks,
    Max

  • Adding old scanner where Image Capture will see it

I have an CanoScan N1220U flatbed scanner. Canon does not have driver software for this scanner for Intel Macs. I have downloaded a plugin for the scanner that was written for Power PC system X Macs, and I've put it in Photoshop's plugins folder. I can use it to scan with Photoshop provided I run PS in Rosetta mode. Is there some place in the system where I can put another copy of that driver (it's not a TWAIN driver) so that Image Capture will see it and use it? If so, will I have to run Image Capture in Rosetta mode, or can it automatically deal with parts in Rosetta mode, as some programs allegedly can?

Your 1220 was designed when the Mac was system 7, running at 40 Mhz. and a large hard drive was anything over 150 MB. If you are scanning paper, buy a new epson all in one. I trashed my D660U canoscan because it took forever with very limited internal memory. can you spell recycle?

    Hi
    I do
    • In iMovie - select a project
    • Share to Media Browser and as Large (not HD or other res.)
    • Close iMovie
    • Open iDVD and select to start a New iDVD Project
    • Import movie - from Media button - down to the right - and here from Movies

  • Image Capture and Preview "folder not writable" error importing to shared folder

I'm running 10.8.5 on a Late 2012 model Mac Mini. I'm trying to create a folder under my home directory where my wife can import pictures using Image Capture or Preview while logged into her account. I've tried setting permissions on the folder by setting POSIX permissions and ACLs from the command line, and also by setting ACLs using Get Info in Finder, but it seems as though both Image Capture and Preview ignore the ACLs and instead rely solely on the POSIX permissions for everyone/other (even when a relevant group is set). Unless the POSIX permissions for everyone/other are "rwx" Image Capture and Preview both give an error that the import failed, and /var/log/system.log shows errors that the "folder is not writable". I'd like to be able to set this up without making the folder and the files in it writable by everyone. My understanding was that ACLs should take precedence over POSIX permissions, but even the POSIX permissions don't seem to be getting handled properly, because the group is ignored. Any help or explanation of what's happening would be appreciated.
    Here's an example with details:
Suppose we have the users alice and bob. We want to set permissions on the directory /Users/bob/importdir such that Alice can import files from a camera there using Image Capture (or Preview, either would do), but don't want to relax the permissions more than necessary.
We create a group named bob_and_alice
We set the following permissions on /Users/bob:
    POSIX: rwxr-xr-x, owner=bob, group=staff (i.e. default POSIX permissions)
    ACLs:
    0: group:everyone deny delete
    1: group:bob_and_alice allow list,search,readattr,readextattr,readsecurity
    2: user:alice allow list,search,readattr,readextattr,readsecurity
"Get Info" shows "Read & Write" for bob and "Read Only" for alice, bob_and_alice, staff, and everyone
We set the following permissions on /Users/bob/importdir:
    POSIX: rwxrwxr-x owner=bob, group=bob_and_alice
ACLS: (these are already probably more permissive than should be necessary)
    0: group:bob_and_alice allow list,add_file,search,delete,add_subdirectory,delete_child,readattr,writeattr,re adextattr,writeextattr,readsecurity,writesecurity,file_inherit,directory_inherit
    1: user:alice allow list,add_file,search,delete,add_subdirectory,delete_child,readattr,writeattr,re adextattr,writeextattr,readsecurity,writesecurity,file_inherit,directory_inherit
"Get Info" shows "Custom" for both alice and bob_and_alice, "Read & Write" for bob, and "Read Only" for everyone
Alice opens a Terminal and cd's to /Users/bob/importdir. Alice can create and delete files in this directory.
Now Alice opens Image Capture and with our camera connected we try to import a photo to /Users/bob/importdir. Image Capture shows an error dialog with the text "Import error. An error occurred while importing. The item 'foo.jpg' was not imported." /var/log/system.log shows the message: "Jul 20 22:12:34 computer_name.local Image Capture[32804]: Document destination folder is not writable" If instead Alice uses Preview it shows an error dialog with the text "The selected folder is not writable" and /var/log/system.log shows two error messages:
Jul 20 22:23:45 computer_name.local Preview[33280]: Document destination folder is not writable
    Jul 20 22:23:45 computer_name.local Preview[33280]: Encountered error during image import: Error Domain=com.apple.ImageCaptureCore Code=-9934 "The selected folder is not writable" UserInfo=0x7ffda4881f00 {NSLocalizedDescription=The selected folder is not writable}
Now we change the POSIX permissions on /Users/bob/importdir to: rwxrwxrwx
The import succeeds with both Image Capture and Preview
Can anyone explain what's going on here? Is there another reasonable way to do this without, moving this shared directory to /Users/shared?

Did you figure out how to fix this?

  • Canon PIXMA 860 and 560 not recognized by Image Capture

I can scan from the printers to my MacBook. And I go to System Prefernces / Printers and Faxes and both are shown as printers and as scanners. I can open from their and scan but when I open image capture it doesn't find any scanners.
I down loaded and installed both the newest canon printer and scanner drivers as well as the newest ICA driver. Still they are not recognized.
    What am I missing?

Just for testing purposes, I removed the canon printer, removed all canon software and updates from my system and then used the original CD that came with my 870 to reinstall the printer and lo and behold, Image Capture started working again for wireless scanning.
Hello and thanks for the feedback.
There are two scanner drivers available for many of the new models of Canon AIOs. There is the ICA driver and the Canon scanner driver.
During my tests on clean builds of 10.6.x I found that my Canon AIOs were able to print and scan via wireless by simply installing the Canon update provided by Apple. This update consisted of the then latest printer driver for many models of Canon AIO and inkjet and the ICA driver. Canon's scanner driver was not included as part of this download from Apple.
The ICA driver is installed in HD > Library > Image Capture > Devices and the package is called Canon IJScanner1. Later versions of the ICA driver also installed another package, Canon IJScanner2. These ICA drivers provide a minimal amount of scanning selections and only appear to work with Image Capture and Preview. Other applications like Canon's own MP Navigator and Adobe Acrobat Pro will not scan with just the ICA driver installed. The Canon scanner driver for the respective model is required.
From what you have said and from my own testing I propose that the original CD did not contain the ICA driver but the Canon scanner driver for the MX870. And with only this driver installed you were able to scan using Image Capture via the wireless. I don't recall ever testing a 10.6 build where only the Canon scanner driver was installed and not the ICA driver (it is present by default on 10.6 but only has older models of Canon AIO's - your MX870 is not there). Had I tested this I believe that I would have been able to scan via wireless using Image Capture.
I also propose that once you installed the Canon v2.4.1 update, which contains a version of the ICA driver package that is also available from Canon web sites, then Image Capture stopped using the Canon MX870 scanner driver and used the ICA driver instead, thus stopping you from wireless scanning.
Right now I am using a new build of 10.6.6 on my MBPro. So that I could print to my MP990 at home and an MG6150 at work I simply installed the v2.4.1 update and have printer and scanner queues in Print & Fax for both. I have not installed scanner drivers for either device and at home with my MP990 Image Capture does not show any device being available, while Preview does show the MP990 once I select 'Import from Scanner > Include Networked Devices'. Also, Acrobat Pro 9 does not show my MP990 being available.
And with regards to the v2.4.1 update, the drivers included are provided by Canon to Apple, just as the other vendor drivers are provided to Apple, to make life easier for us Mac users. The drivers are available individually and get downloaded and installed automatically when the respective model is connected to the Mac and no local driver is present. As for the package including all these individual vendor drivers, this would be created by Apple.

  • Where did my pics go ??? Transferred pics from memory card to Mac Pro and lost pics on memory card and unable to find on Mac

where did my pics go. Transferred 40-50- pic from camera memory card to Mac via  slot; lost pics on memory card and unable to find anywhere in Mac. May have gone to Open Office as Data . Is that possible and if so can I get pics back or if not so ,where could they be????

First place to check is in the iPhoto library. If the images were imported there then they will be visible in the previews created.
The physical location of image files in iPhoto is quite buried in folders within folders. So, if you want to copy them then select all of the ones needed from the previews and copy from iPhoto to a new location, preferably a new folder in the Pictures folder.
The other app that might have transferred the files is Image Capture. It would download files from cards or cameras. Launch this app and look in the preferences to see the default location of transferred files.

  • Image Capture + Rotate per EXIF + iPhoto = Bad

My image intake workflow starts by importing with Graphic Converter, then renaming withi 'A Better Finder Rename' (rename images to a "datedescriptionimage#"), then review and major edits in GC then import into iPhoto.
A recent release bug in GC, however, forced me to use OS X Image Capture. That's bad news with EXIF auto-rotate and iPhoto.
Image Capture has had a bug for several years -- with my Canon camera it duplicates the EXIF orientation tag when it auto-rotates on import. This confuses iPhoto 5.04 -- iPhoto re-rotates portrait images a second time (interestingly the thumb nail is upright) and so the image ends up rotated 180 degrees. I was sure this bug must have been fixed in Tiger. Wrong.
The malrotation is bad enough, but if one includes these double-tagged images in a batch that's mailed, Mail.App hangs until it finally times out with an AppleEvent error. It takes about 15 minutes to time out, during which time one watches the spinning pizza of death.
I fixed my Image Capture mangled images using a Graphic Converter feature that was added a while back on my request. This feature fixes corrupt orientating tags and resets them to the current orientation (so first get the image oriented correctly, then run this).
First I told iPhoto to restore all image to original. Then I did something quite risky (I have backups), I quite iPhoto, deleted the Library root .jpg cache files, then used GC to navigate the images I'd imported in their iPhoto directories. I located all the mangled images, reoriented them, and ran the EXIF repair utility. I then fired up iPhoto. (I tried removing the thumbnails, but iPhoto doesn't regenerate these as one would expect, instead it hangs and eventually shows blank images -- I think this is a cause of the broken thumbnails bug -- iPhoto should just regenerate them.) In cases where the thumbnails were mal-oriented I forced a thumbnail rebuild by editing the image then restoring to Original.
After this fix I was able to mail the images without any trouble.
iPhoto is in such bad shape I wonder if Apple shouldn't do rewrite from the ground up -- maybe an app that would only run in Tiger.

Yes, I understand that (technical) distinction, but Image Capture has worked fine for me with earlier Canon cameras. If this was just support for iPhoto and Aperture it should be labeled as such, but the actual documentation for the 10.5.4 updates says "Includes additional RAW image support for several cameras" and the document describing Raw support says "Mac OS X Leopard provides system-level support for digital camera RAW formats from the following cameras.
    Products Affected
    Mac OS X 10.5
Supported by Mac OS X 10.5.4 or later
Canon EOS Digital Rebel XSi / Kiss Digital x2 / EOS 450D"
The key language here is "system level support" - which I had assumed included importing the raw images. Image capture recognizes the XSi and moves the jpegs just fine - it's not clear to me why raw files would be any different.
Anyway, as others in this thread have mentioned, just using a SDHC card reader works fine - and is faster. You just have to remove the card for the transfer.
