Where did my memory go? HD showing full but why??

I have an 80GB HD - it's only rated to 75GB which is fine.
The problem is it's showing completely full, but when I look in Finder under Macintosh HD, the 4 folders (Applications, Library, System and Users) only take up 65GB of space.
What happened to the other 10GB - where did it go? I've looked for it everywhere...

80 GB turns out is about 75.2 GB formatted. The reason is ISO. Unfortunately the entire hard drive industry has played this game since the beginning, and ISO has let them get away with it. It is discussed in:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=30065
The other two thirds of lost space, may be taken up by invisible files.

  • Transport shows successfull but why it is not taking effect in test

    Hi all ,
I have changed my dataource and added some Z fields .
But when i transport that to test system, i can not see the effect in test .
Transport shows successfull but why it is not takin effect from the Dev Datasource changes to Test systems ?
    Please give me solution

    Hi,
You can check the version of the data source.
Check this version if shows the latest date and the TR number on which you have transported the data source. If it contains different one then select your one and activate it.
You can actually activate the desired version.
Just go RSO2->Extract structure->utiliteis-> version -> version management.
    Thanks

I did download Lion and everything is fine, but why in app store still stated DOWNLOAD and not INSTALLED, I already did 3 times and it still in DOWNLOAD label

My guess is they changed that to Download for all the people who wanted to or needed to download it again. It's kind of a subset of Installed, now. I don't think it is a great solution, but that is what it is.

  • Itunes says memory on ipod is full but is actually empty

Hi, I hope someone can help me with this:
I recently downloaded itunes 7 as recommended for my Ipod Nano 2nd generation, my ipod is showing, but when i try to sync my library with my ipod it tells me there is not enough space to do this, the memory bar on itunes tells me my ipod is full but in reality it is empty. Has anyone else experienced this? Can anyone tell me how to fix it? Thanks.
    PC   Windows XP

A restore will usually fix this.
See: How to restore the iPod to factory settings.

  • Icloud shows full but only 1.6 gigs used

My icloud shows its full but I'm only backing camera roll which is 1.6 gigs every other app is off.
    What is the problem?
    Please help
    Thanks,
    Gian

The problem could be that you don't have enough storage on the device itself, not on iCloud.  Go to Settings>General>Usage to see how much "Storage" you have available on the device.  Farther down the list is the available storage on iCloud.
Backups also automatically include things like text messages and ringtones which can take up lots of space.

  • Where did my memory go?

I finally got my external hard drive replaced so I decided to do a backup so I could free up some space on my startup disk in order to run Windows. After much toil and hard work I managed to free up an over 20 GB from my startup disk, more than sufficient to partition my hard drive for use with Windows. Unfortunately, when I began the process of partitioning with Boot Camp I received a message telling me my disk could not be partitioned. I used Disk Utility in an attempt to repair the disk, but that option was unavailable. So I reset my computer with the OSX Leopard DVD in the drive as prescribed by another user on these forums to see if that would correct the problem. I was then put through the entire install process for Leopard and given the option to erase the disk or to create a journal or an archive or something containing info from the updated version of Leopard (10.5.2) I was using since I installed 10.5. I wasnt sure what the outcome would be for either option so I went with what I considered to be the safe route and I created an archive. But now when I go to repair the disk, the option is still unavailable, and when I verify the disk im told there are no problems. The worst part is that now when I try to partition my startup disk, it says I dont have even 10GB of space available. After checking I learned that I really only have 8.5GB. What happened to all my disk space? Is it being used up by said Archive? If so, where do I find it and how do I get rid of it ( if I dare to). I also tried to use time machine to go back and restore my computer to the way it was before I reinstalled Leopard, but I dont know How to do that. I can only figure out how to install single items from the various backups displayed. I thought that there would be a way to partition part of my external hard rive to run Windows from there but I didnt see that as an option either. I realize Im asking like 20 questions in a single post, but if any one has any insight that might help me in any of these particular areas I greatly appreciate it. I have done numerous searches in these forums to find answers but to no avail, hence this post.
To make it to the point, first: Is it possible to restore my entire computer using Time Machine to the way it was before I reinstalled Leopard, and if so, how do I go about doing it? And second, can I partition out part of my WD MyBook 500GB external hard drive to run Windows from rather than partitioning out my Macs startup disk, and if so, how do I do that? Thanks.

You are confusing memory with HD space. Two different things. Memory is RAM. You are concerned with disk space.
In "Previous Systems" folder you will find your previous systems from archive and installs. You may delete them after a successful install. Each previous system is about 10GB and there can be one for each A&I you did.
You restore using TM by inserting your Leopard DVD and rebooting, holding down the "C" key.
Select Utilities from the top menu and the select restore from TM. Just follow the instructions and you won't go wrong.
Bootcamp only partitions your internal drive. You can run Winders from an external disk, but not using bootcamp. You need some 3rd party tools, such as rEFIt.

  • C3 phone memory showing full but phone empty PLEAS...

i have a c3 an the phone memory is says i only have 3mb left yet nothin is on my phone ive tried to hard reset the phone to factory settings but this just lessens my small amount of memory i have got left... when i explore my phone i have nothing in it evan deleted clip arts etc to free spae up... please someone help

I have been having this problem since the latest update a few days ago. I was out using my phone for about 3 hours and it showed that it was still full and all of a sudden it shut down. I restored my phone and it's doing it again as I'm typing. I have to shut down the phone and turn it on again a few times for the battery indicator to show the correct charge.
Another issue that I've been seeing since the 3.0 update is my service indicator constantly showing "searching" even though i can make calls. For this to be corrected I have to either 1. shut down my phone and turn it back on or 2. place it on "airplane" mode then turn "airplane" mode off.

  • Where did the memory space g

I have a Zen Micro 5gb that is a little over a year old. It says it is supposed to hold 2500 songs, yet mine says it is full at 200. How can the memory be less than half of what it should be? Can anyone help me fix this annoying problem? Thank you!

That's the problem with mp3 player song amount listings. They pretty much always use the worst quality bit rate possible for examples. I only have 40 or so on my 6gb, and it's already half full. It also depends on the time. I think they usually use 3 minutes per song to calculate it. Unfortunately, it sounds like you'll need a new player. I want to sell my micro and get something with video and a bigger capacity, and right now, the place where I can get the most money is amazon.com.

  • Where did the memory go?

I have a 30 gig ipod that I just reformatted.  I tried to put files on it and its telling me there is no more room.  The one file that did transfer was around 3 gig.  Where is the other 27 gig of memory being taken up?  When I view the ipod in itunes it actually tells me there is around 24 gig (roughly) available.  However when I try to use it as a hard drive and transfer files to it I recieve an error message telling me that there is no more room available.  I'm really confused.

I believe it is a 5th generation 30 gig ipod.  It was my sons and he broke the headphone jack.  He was going to throw it away.  When I caught him I took it and checked the box in itunes to use it as basicly a 30 gig flash drive.  This has come in handy since I go to school for commercial art and some of the files are quite large.
I was using it on my imac but needed it to move some information between a pc laptop (windows 7) and pc desktop (xp).  In order to do this I had to reformat the ipod using itunes.  An error message came up when I inserted the ipod into the desktop asking me if I wanted to use itunes to reformat.  I checked the box yes and off it went.  Now when you look at the settings on the ipod it says there is 24 gig of memory available.  When you look at properties of the ipod in the pc's control panel it also says there is 24 gig of memory available.  itunes again says there is 24 gig of memory available.  However when I attempt to move files into the ipod from the folder located on the pc desktop it gives me the error message telling me there is no more room available.
Now I know that when you are using a mac and you just delete files from (say a flash drive) if you do not empty the trash at times those files will remain unseen exactly as in this manner.  Once you actually empty the trash the files will fully be gone.  I never emptied the trash on the imac.  I did a total reformat on the pc and I would think that everything was now gone.  It is acting as though the trash needs emptied.  I would have to reformat the ipod to mac again to empty the trash.  I'm really a bit mystified here.

  • Nokia e72 and where did the memory go????

New Nokia e72, after the disappointing Nokia E75 i really didn`t expect Nokia to release another unfinished phone!
Dont get me wrong, great Phone the E72, solid hardware, but it has the same memory problem found in other nokia devices. 42 M at start up. Tried to go on the internet with the build in browser, 2 big flash sites like CNN and sadly the memory was down to between 356 K to 1 M, and the phone didn´t react anymore. After shuting down the browser, the E72 had 42 M in free memory again. It's the same story when using Spotify or Youtube.
Is there any one else with the same problem?  What will/can Nokia do about it?
    Best regards

I am using the program PhoNetInfo to check for available RAM.  Find it at http://www.patrickfrei.ch/phonetinfo/index.html.  Not sure if there's an easier solution?  You will need to follow the instructions to have it signed at http://symbiansigned.com for it to work.
As for the main thread, I am using an E73, which is basically the same as an E72.  Memory was one of the shortcomings I knew about when buying the phone, but so far I have hit only one browser "Out of memory" error.  Guess the sites I use either have a mobile version or simply aren't so memory intensive?  But I might look at this problem from the other perspective.  Unless they're loaded with pictures, web sites that trigger "Out of memory" are probably obscenely FAT!  I marvel at the design of certain modern web sites.  It's as if the programmers get paid by line of code, or are in competition to win this year's Rube Goldberg prize, for the most unnecessarily complicated invention.  Try downloading such a web site over a dial-up connection.  In this case, the problem is totally different, but the resulting frustration is the same.  And IMHO, the cause is the same: BAD DESIGN.  Simpler is better for visitors and both cheaper and easier to maintain.
Has anybody tried the Skyfire?  While it likely has some problems of its own, I assume it will work around a straightforward "Out of memory" error...because it's not a real web browser?

  • Disk storage showing full but sum of individual files shows much less used

My MacBook Pro recently gave 'start up disk full' messages. When I check with OminDiskSweeper it shows my HD as 148.3GB used 0.4GB free yet the drive sweep only shows 95.5GB used. When I do the same for my mobile me storage it shows 9.9GB used 0.1GB free yet the drive sweep shows only 38MB used. I am not sure what the 'missing' space is being occupied by and the performance of the macbook has now ground to a halt. Has anyone experienced similar issues and been able to resolve them?

Great thanks. Had 3 accounts established which had replicated stuff from iTunes but not visible to my normal account. Have deleted the other 2 redundant and largely duplicate accounts and got back my 50+GB!

  • Hard driving showing full, but only half the space is used

iMac mid 2011 with 1 TB internal drive
It is being reported I only have 70gb of space left.  From looking at my files, I know I have used about 465gb, I scanned my computer using Omni Disksweep and I could not find anything that appears to be bloating the number to almost double my use.  My timemachine backups were to an external drive, so I don;t think that could be the issue.  How can I determine what is using the other 400+ GB of space?

ODS can't see the whole filesystem when you run it just by double-clicking; it only sees files that you have permission to read. To see everything, you have to run it as root.
    Back up all data now.
If you have more than one user account, make sure you're logged in as an administrator. The administrator account is the one that was created automatically when you first set up the computer.
Install the app in the Applications folder as usual. Quit it if it's running.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    sudo /Applications/OmniDiskSweeper.app/Contents/MacOS/OmniDiskSweeper
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The application window will open, eventually showing all files in all folders, sorted by size. It may take a few minutes for the app to finish scanning.
I don't recommend that you make a habit of doing this. Don't delete anything as root. If something needs to be deleted, make sure you know what it is and how it got there, and then delete it by other, safer, means. When in doubt, leave it alone or ask for guidance.
When you're done with the app, quit it and also quit Terminal.

  • Audio Capacity Bar showing full, but Free Space says 52.30 still...

Kind of hard to explain, but in the Summary View of mu iPod, the Audio Capacity says 1,712,986,856 then some garbled characters, then the Vido says 8.45 GB, photos 196.3 MB and again, free space is at 51.30 (it's an 80 GB video). The bar is all blue, but the iPod isn't full... Anyone see this before? It doesn't seem to be a problem, makes me nervous though. On that note, is there a way to see the size of the files on in iTunes, more like which is the largest, etc? And also on the iPod? I',m wondering if I could do like a du -ks * sort of command on the iPod and iTunes, see what are the big files, make sure it's all ok. Maybe wasted time... Anyway, any help appreciated.
    JP

I just upgraded iTunes to Windows version 7.3.1 and the problem still exists for me. In the summary view, the capacity bar at the bottom is solid blue and the Audio data size displays -1,194,043,981.634. However, the number changes when I click on the capacity bar to display the number of audio songs or number of days. I have a screen shot.
