Where did my music go.

My computer crashed. I replaced the hadrdrive. I logged back into iTunes and behold all my music listings were there, however, there is an exclamation point prior to each song. And when I go to play the song a dialog box says it cannot play the song because it cant find the original song. iTunes summary says I have 922.62MB stored. Where is the music? How can I get the music from my IPod to the computer...........

*How can I get the music from my IPod to the computer...........*
If your iPod is set to update automatically you need to take care connecting to an empty iTunes. You can use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on Windows with iTunes 7.3 or later installed hold down the Shift + Ctrl keys together. This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 20 to 30 seconds depending on your computer: iTunes - Keyboard Shortcuts for Windows
When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that way you can continue to use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default: Managing content manually on iPod
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
The transfer of content from sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:
Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes

TuneJack Windows Only (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod2PC Windows Only
iDump Windows Only
SharePod Windows Only
iPodRip Mac & Windows

Music Rescue Mac & Windows
Floola Mac & Windows
iGadget Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iRepo Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Access Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
TouchCopy Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible - Windows version only)
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

  • Where did my music go?  I uploaded my library consisting of Apple store purchases, CDS's and Amazon purchases.  A small precentage shows up in itunes now

Where did my music go?  I subscribed to aPPLE'S Cloud and uploaded a nice sized library consisting of Apple Store purchases, CD's I downloaded over a period of years, and some MP3 trax purchased from Amazon.  Now, only a few of my songs appear in iTunes.  There is no help that I can find not requiring the time and effort of a PhD candidate to research.  I'm looking for a quick answer -- is the Apple Cloud a fraud and I should get out of it, or am I a dummie because there is a quick and easy fix?

I can't find mine either.  I had around 800 songs and now i have six!

  • Wow . . .  where did all music go?

i am trying to transfer my songs from my iPod onto a registered new laptop. i managed to transfer some of my old library by home network onto this new laptop, but not all of it transferred.
i tried following the instructions provided for tarnsferring music to a new computer but here's the gut-wrenchingly frustrating and convoluted trouble i am having: when i open my iPod from My Computer 1) there is no icon for iTunes. there is one for Music so i figured that was good enough. but, only a fraction of what is actually ON my iPod is in this folder. nonetheless, i transferred it anyway to My Music folder on my harddrive.
then i opened iTunes. i now have only songs i purchased from iTunes from the last month, and not - oh - 98% of my other music. where did it go? i can still see much of my music in My Music folder on my hard drive, but it doesn't show up in iTunes.
why is it so (multiple expletives) difficult to add music from my iPod into a pre-existing music folder on my laptop? if the computer is registered, why can't i see all my music in iTunes from any registered computer i own? what is the point of resgistering otherwise?
    please help. thank you

ah, this is cute. now that i dragged and dropped my other music into the iTunes library interface, and it has begun copying and coverting files (which i had already done quite some time ago), i no longer see music that i have purchased in the last two weeks on this very computer.
all i want is to have the music on my iPod put onto my computer, added to the music i have purchased on this computer.
    why is this so difficult?

  • Where did my music library go?

When I synced my phone on my computer a few days ago it downloaded a new album I had purchased on itunes butttt that ended up being the only thing in my music library now....wth? So I did not turn on the icloud on my phone so it should not be backing up to that...so where is my music? Please help

If it's just your library that's gone, do you still have your iTunes music folder?
If so OK, open finder, go to music, click on your iTunes music folder and highlight then in iTunes go to the top and click (add folder to library) and you should see your library start filling up!

  • Archive and Install or... where did my music go?

Ok, so I had to total brain malfunction and did a Archive and Install when I did the last OS update. So now my user account is gone and hiding inside the "previous system" folder. I'd really like to retrieve iTunes albums, music, movies, playlists, iphone data, etc. Is it possible?
    Thanks!!

Yes - just copy them to where you want them...though I can't figure out why they would be in the previous system folder and not in the new one.

  • I have been purchasing songs on itunes for a year. I just got a new computer and I synched my iphone to it. I had over 100 songs, now I have only 10. Where did my music go and how can I get it back?

I have been purchasing songs from itunes for the past year. I have over 100 songs. I recently got a new computer and I synched the iphone to it. I can't find 90% of my music. Where is it and how can I get it back? I checked itunes under purchased and it only shows 13 songs. Please help.

You can only sync with one computer. When you synced to the new computer it would have erased it and synced what was on the new computer.
You always need to have a backup, an iPhone is not a storage device.
When you get a new computer you need to transfer your library before syncing
If you don't have a backup you may be out of luck
The only thing would be if you're in the US and have access to the iCloud beta to reload purchases

  • HT1689 Where did the music on my phone that is not mine come from and how do I get rid of it?

I have music on my phone that is not in iTunes and I did not download to my phone.  How did it get there and how do I get rid of it?
    Thanks for your help.

Either you enabled the guest user, or you enabled Find My Mac, which requires there to be an active guest account for a thief to log into, so that they'll connect to the internet and allow you to locate it.

  • I consolidated my library, where did my music go?

I consolidated my library, it went to the iTunes folder, but my itunes program library is completely bare.

    I just went through this.
    go to Edit>preferences>advanced tab
and check the path in the "iTunes music folder location" box.
    That's where your music went

  • Where did the music go? iTMS Gifting Question

I have a song/video that I got off the iTMS that many friends have said they would love to have. I would love to gift/share this with them, but when I went to do this the song/video can't be found anywhere.
My Question: Is there a way to find music you know you got off the iTMS in order to Gift it?
I know for sure I got it off the iTMS and I would love to purchase 30 copies to send to family and friends. Here is the song/video in case anyone can find it or would like to point me to where I can get it:
    'Someday' by Flipsyde (3:27)
This is the song/video made for the Winter Olympics not the band's normal rendition. I personally don't care for the unedited version and really think that the video imagery adds to the music. I got the song/video on Feb 7th, 2006, but I can't find it anymore. I will gladly Gift a copy to anyone who can show me where it is and how I can Gift it to my friends.
    Thank you in advance.
    wms out.

Is there a way to definitively tell whether or not something is available
Other than just searching for it as many ways as you can think of, no. Usually making your searches less specific works best, though it will pull up more than you want.
or a mechanism to request that a song/video be put back into circulation?
You can submit suggestions for the iTunes Music Store through the feedback page. But if a track once carried by the iTMS is no longer there (as opposed to being listed but coming up with an "unavailable" error), it's probably because the record company cancelled the licensing, in which case there's probably little or nothing Apple can do.

  • Where did the Music navigation tab in the iTunes store go?

Regarding the iTunes store navigation tabs on the top, why is that I only see tabs for podcasts, iTunes U and app store but not for music, movies, etc? This is really troubling and I wonder whether anyone is having the same problem.

    Not sure.
Go to Malaysia in the itunes store and see.
If there is no music tab, then there is no music store.

  • Help! I consolidated my library! Where did my music go?

I consolidated my library, it went to the iTunes folder, but my itunes program library is completely bare.

When consolidating, all music is stored in the directory set in the preferences.
On a Mac that directory is set in Preferences>Advanced>General.
On a PC it should be something similar.
If you can't find it, I suggest you post your question in the iTunes for Windows forum.
    Hope this helps.

  • HT204088 where did my music go?

    hello.
a while back, I had to reformat my PC. This was all music that I have purchased itjunes have disappeared. So now when I find my songs again I have to pay for them again, which I think is unfair. I have the same apple user to, have gotten a new iphone now in the meantime. I spent a lot of money buying songs earlier but stopped because I have to buy those again. can you fix this up? It is so sad that they are gone.
