Where did my playlists Go?

I had created some playlists which I now have on my standard Ipod. I just purchased a new 3rd gen Nano and noticed that the playlists that were on my syncing laptop are there, in iTunes in name, but the contents are not. The entire set of playlists that I had created are now gone. I have noticed that Apple has released sever new updated to Itunes in the last week so I'm guessing that one of the new versions deleted the playlist contents and that’s why there are so many fixes being released in such a short time. A couple of my friends have also has the same problems.
So, it seems I cannot use the playlist on my standard Ipod to recreate the playlist on the Laptop which contains the library of songs in Itunes.
Is there any way to recreate these playlists based on what is currently on my other Ipod? If I have to do it manually it is going to take a very, very long time, and right now I'm not prepared to do that.
If the folks at Apple are reading this, you need to get your act together and first of all test your software before you release it, and, since you messed it up, give us a way to recover.
I understand that there may be SW out there that will allow one to extract information from and IPod back to a computer??? I would have thought that the sync option would do this for me, but apparently not.
Thanks to anyone who can help here.

  • Where did my playlists go iTunes 12

I did  the restore to factory settings using all the steps to get my 5th generation iPod to work again. It is restored and fully charged. Now have loaded all my music back onto my iPod but all my playlists are missing. All I get is Genius, and On the Go. My iTunes is up to date with iTunes 12. This lists my different playlists on my computer. In iTunes, my iPod doesn't list any playlists.
I thought sync was to sync music to various playlists. Is this not so now?

It depends on how our iPod was set up before you restored it.  If you were using the Manually manage music and videos setting, iTunes was not keeping your iPod's content "in sync" with your iTunes library.  In that case, you manually added playlists to the iPod and manually added songs to those playlists.  So, after doing a Restore (which erases the iPod), those playlists will not be there anymore.  You'll need to redo it manually.
If you used automatic syncing, that means all of the playlists that were on the iPod (before the Restore) are also in your iTunes library (on the computer).  Hopefully, this is your case, because you can easily add those playlists back onto your iPod by setting up automatic syncing again.  In iTunes 12, select your iPod from the device button.  In the iPod's sidebar, under Settings, select Music.  The screen to the right tells iTunes how to sync songs to the iPod.  Check the box for Sync Music (which enables automatic syncing).  NOTE:  If the iPod is currently using the manual setting, setting up automatic syncing will replace its current content.  Any songs on the iPod that are not in your computer's iTunes library will be lost.
If your entire iTunes music library fits on your iPod, you can use the option to sync Entire music library.  All songs and playlists in your iTunes library are synced to the iPod, when you click Apply.  Any changes to your iTunes music library get synced to the iPod going forward.
Otherwise, select the option to sync Selected playlists, artists, albums, and genres.  Below that, under Playlists, select (checkmark) the playlists you want on the iPod.  You can also select from the other lists, as desired.  When you click Apply, iTunes syncs your selection to the iPod.  Going forward, to add or remove songs from the iPod, just update those selected playlists in your iTunes library.  The iPod does not need to be connected.  The next time you connect the iPod (or click Sync if already connected), iTunes automatically syncs the same changes to the iPod.

  • Where did my playlist go? Most recent update seems to have delelted them

We haven't used our iTunes much this summer, but when the latest update went thru, we hooked up the ipod to charge and none of our downloads or playlists are there. Any idea what happened to them and if we can get them back? Thank you in advance for your help!

I had this and just spoke to Apple help desk who sorted it out...
I had three audiobooks and an audio CD i had ripped to iTunes, i updated iTunes to the latest and also iPhone 6 to latest update but still couldn't see them AGGH!
The help desk showed me it was an issue with sharing, so… go on iPhone go into 'settings', go to 'music' scroll down and make sure "Home Sharing' is ON with your apple ID
Then go to computer and open ITunes, and go to 'File" and then 'Home Sharing" and make sure it is ON for the same apple ID
Connect sync and then go to your phone and open music and in the menu at the bottom where  it says '… more' an Audiobooks option should have appeared.
For the ripped audio CD iTunes will have put it in Music (why i don't know!!) so go look there..
It worked for me, i hope it works for you - it was doing my head in!

  • An entire playlist "can't be found"; these titles are also missing from my music/media folder--where did they go?

I had a Christmas playlist that worked until this year. All songs appear on the playlist w/exclamation point. All say "can't be found." They have disappeared from my music/media files. What happened? Where did they go? How can I get them back?

There's not much to go on since we don't know what you've done to your computer over the past year, etc.
Have you used Spotlight to search the hard drive for the files?  Did you perhaps drag them to the trash or a different directory sometime over the past 12 months?
If they are iTunes purchases you can download them a second time.  If they are from a CD you can rip them again.  If you have an old computer backup you can restore them from that.

  • I lost my playlists. Where did it go? How can I relocate them?

i lost my playlists. where did it go? how can i relocate them?

    Canuck,
Make sure you are looking at a playlist in your iTunes library.  Not a playlist folder.  Not on your connected device.    Not your overall Music library.
Make sure all the songs are present on your computer.  Not missing.  And not in the cloud.

  • My Playlists are empty.... Where did the content go?

I've spendt 100s of hours putting my playlists together so I have the right mix for the right time...
Now there all empty... Where did it all go?
    What happend?
    Was it an update...

There is no way to possibly tell unless you want to provide some pretty specific detail about operations you were performing leading up to your situation. In fact, it's not very clear what your current situation is. Exactly what all is empty? Where did exactly what all go?
The basic relevant fact is that playlist information is stored in the iTunes Library file, which typically resides in the home iTunes folder.

  • Where did the Home Video tab go?

I have a MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2009) running Yosemite 10.10.2 and iTunes 12.1.50.  I also have about 900+ home videos taken by my various cameras and encoded using HandBrake or iMovie over the last 10 years.  30 of these movies have been on my phone for over a year and I regularly watch them.
I updated my iPhone 4 to iOS8.2 last night by doing a restore as if a new device.  This was recommended by a tech at the Apple Store since so much of my phone's  16GB was taken up by the operating system.  After that, I suddenly had more than 3GB more free space.  Yay!
But - right away, I noticed that only 3 of my 30 home videos had synched.  I had those 30 in a special playlist so I wouldn't have to sort through the other 870+.  I decided to remove them from the iPhone and try again, but it didn't work.  So, I decided to remove them from the playlist and add them again.  That's when I noticed that I cannot find the Home Videos tab in iTunes on my Mac anymore.  It was there earlier last night because I had just added new ones to iTunes (visual confirmed they were in the Home Video tab once added to library).  I tried to import all 900+ home movies, and it seemed to do something - but I still can't see them.
I tried to search for "Home Video" in the iTunes help menu - no hits.  I always use "Home Movies Favourites" as the Genre for the 30 I put on my phone, so I tried searching for that in the movie search box.  Nothing found again.  I tried searching for individual file names.  Nothing.
So - where did Home Videos go and how can I get it back?  My files are still on the hard drive, but I have spent hundreds of hours updating the tags in iTunes with irreplaceable info like dates, locations, memories, etc.
Apple - please stop making such drastic changes to iTunes every time we just finish getting used to your other changes!

Hello! I said... I want the ability to input analogue video into my camcorder so I can continue to transfer VHS and input and record video from other sources. The new HD cameras on the market will not allow you to record video from any source except for the lens.
I have HD cable box. I want to record my HD programs from cable (HBO, Starz, etc) to my camera, download the video to my Mac from the camera and then edit them in iMovie and create professional looking movie DVD's in iMovie.
iMovie HD can work with mini DV HD cameras and HD video. I was not aware of a system requirement for working with HD content.

  • HT2905 Display Duplicates is missing from iTunes 11 .. Where did it go?

    Downloaded the Latest iTunes 11.
It looks good, except I can not find the Display Duplicates Function. Where did it go?

Two Windows scripts to make playlists of Duplicates and Exact Duplicates. Use shift-delete to remove selected tracks from the library as well as the playlist.
There is also my DeDuper script if you don't want to do it by hand. Please take note of the warning to backup your library before deduping. See this thread for background.
    Enjoy.

I'm running windows XP and seem to have found a partial solution that does not involve vague half assed directions =P
Open iTunes, go to file, import, and select the latest "Temp" file, I got most of my playlists and songs back that way.
Edit: This file is in the \My Documents\My Music\iTunes folder

  • Where is the playlist for download for Jazzercise?

Where did the Jazzercise Playlist go in iTunes Store?? I can't find any reference to them.

I believe they discontinued all such pre-created playlists a while back.

  • Where did display resolutions go?

I just updated from 10.7.3 to to 10.7.4 on intel 24" iMac.  In 10.7.3, I had a choice of 12 different display resolutions.  In 10.7.4, I have 2 - neither of which I find acceptable, so I reintalled 10.7.3.  Where did my choices go?
And how do I contact Apple directly without having to pay to tell them there is a problem with their update?
I was forced to switch to Lion so I could keep my contacts and calendars synced with all my Apple devices.  Frankly, I've been an Apple user all the way back to the IIe.  I don't like Lion.  I don't like being forced to upgrade - if those items still sync with Windows XP, why can't they in Snow Leopard?  I don't like that there is no easy way to contact Apple support about this.  I don't like the snooty and less than helpful personel at my local Apple Store.  Makes me wonder why I'm still an Apple user.

  • ITunes 8: Where did Importing/Burning prefs go?

Just installed 8.0.0 on the office laptop, out of curiosity. Usually I avoid such early iterations. Where did the Importing and Burning tabs go? They're not in the Preference window anymore. They used to be on the Advanced tab. Now that tab only goes one deep, showing the location of the library. I can't find anywhere the place to change importing and burning preferences.

When burning, after you select the playlist you want to burn and then click the "Burn Disc" button, the burning options will come up in a dialog there. You should be able to select the drive / audio or data CD / gap between songs, all the options that were in the Preferences > Advanced > Burning tab.
For the importing options, you go to Preferences > General > Import Settings... mid-way down the page and this brings up a dialog to select your import settings.
