Everything worked fine in simulation. I'm wondering about my QT files because when I imported into QT it created one file named 1stCommunionMovie and nine other files named 1stCommunionMovie-av1 thru 1stCommunionMovie-av9. I saved to the desktop because on my first 2 attempts to save to my external HD it took up way too much space, so I transfered the file to the external HD from the desktop. This is only the third time I have used this program so I'm not too experienced and I'm not exactly sure what to look for in my files. I have 1 Track almost 90 mins. all edited in FCP, NTSC, SD, with 4 Motion files, 41 JPEG files, 4 AIFF files, and about 55 mins. of video w/ audio. I used Animation Codec without Compressor to import to QT, which I was told would be fine by a "genius" at the Apple store.
Also, now when I do the simulation I have audio but no video.
Sorry if I seem clueless, I would really appreciate any clues though!

hmm, there's a lot of file-moving-around and different formats and stuff going on here. I almost never bring native QT files into DVDSP, for a number of reasons I can explain later, but for now I can recommend a workflow that will give you realiable compatibility for DVDSP, and use much less strage space than exporting to uncompresseed animation codec files.
Start in FCP, which it sounds like you have.
Select all the sequences in the browser and choose Export using Compressor from the shortcut menu. Choose the appropriate mpeg2 and Dolby AC3 audio export presets for all the items in the batch. Once Compressor is finished, the resulting files will be only as big as they need to be to fit on the DVD (provided you have chosen the right preset for the duration of your video.)
Import the .m2v and .ac3 files as your assets in DVDSP. These assets will not require any re-encoding by DVDSP, and so once your authroing is complete, the build and burn process will go very quickly.
hope this helps-

  • Where did my videos go?

I had to take my iTouch to the Apple store today for a restore. My Macbook Pro was unable to restore after multiple attempts. I brought it home, plugged it in and it was still there - had expected all new factory settings, starting over from scratch. I was also expecting to be bummed out by the NOTES being gone as the Apple store guy said there was no backup for notes. Turns out - notes were still there and restored. What is gone are my videos...where did they go? The videos no longer appear in the iTunes library either. Does anyone know a way or place to find them and get them back on my iTouch? And...am I to assume that the Apple store guy was incorrect? Obviously the NOTES were backed up at some point...??

Use Time Machine to go back to a point where you know the videos were in your iTunes library and restore your library. Don't forget, there are actually two files that need to be restored - iTunes Library and iTunes Music Library.xml.

  • Where did the video lounge forum go?

    hello,
i haven't been here in a while.  a lot has changed.  there used to be a lot of funny stuff and cool off topic threads here in the video lounge.
now it seems to be only a place where people ask for free youtube intros...it's kinda sad in a way.
i guess like bob dylan says: the times they are a changin...
happy holidays and good fortune to all, cheers, j

I think that part of the problem is that when many of us started hanging out in here, there were not a lot of places to read about video related topics, or discuss video related topics.
There were a couple of contests back in the day and we had a lot of fun.
But there are so many places on the web now that deal with video, and so many people who shoot video with their cameras and their phones, that we don't see as many people here probably because there is nothing at all unique about people shooting video.
I had a very popular web site because I collected all of the info that I could into one place. Now you can just Google what you want and there are lots of places that can help you find just the right info or product. So I am retiring my site and planning on using it for my photography portfolio.
In other words, it just isn't the same anymore.
For a while we had a guy who posted lots of stuff every day, but he was not happy and eventually got tired of being told to calm down, so he is gone, or is using a new screen name.and not posting much.
But you never know. Maybe a few new people will start interesting conversations that will entice the rest of us back into participating.

  • Where did my video go and why is it black?

I've noticed a problem and I hope there's a solution for. I recently discovered this morning that my iChat video when I try and view the picture, the screen itself is all black. Also, I updated my software so I know whatever I've got is up to date. How can I get my picture back?

    Do you use Perian ?
It is an System Preferences that add in to the codecs that Quicktime can play.

  • Where Did the Video Go!!!

Suddenly none of my saved videos mpeg-4 (mp4) will play as other than an audio file in quicktime player (7.5). If I open them with iTunes they play normally and I can play quicktime movie trailers in my browser. What's wrong here? -- Matt

These are the downloads and the settings you need in order to view/hear pretty much everything that the net can throw at you: The setup described below has proved repeatedly successful on both PPC and Intel macs, but nothing in life carries a guarantee!
It is known to work in the great majority of cases with Safari 3.0.4, 3.1, 3.1.1, QT 7.3, 7.4.x and 7.5 and OS 10.4.11.
Assuming you already run Tiger versions OS 10.4.11 and have Quicktime 7.2 or above, and are using Safari 2 or 3, download and install (or re-install even if you already had them) the latest versions, suitable for your flavor of Mac, of:
RealPlayer 11 (which is no longer in beta) for Mac from:
    http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/15540
Flip4Mac WMV Player from http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/wmcomponents.mspx (Windows Media Player for the Mac is no longer supported, even by Microsoft)
    Perian from http://perian.org/
You should read this support page http://perian.org/#support in case you need to delete older codecs.
Adobe FlashPlayer should first be uninstalled using the appropriate uninstaller available here: http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_14157&sliceId=2 and then the latest version obtained from here: http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1ProdVersion=ShockwaveFlash and installed.
(You can check here: http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about/ to see which version you should install for your Mac and OS, but please see my footnote if you are running Leopard.)
In earlier versions than QT 7.1.3 in Quicktime Preferences, under advanced, UNcheck Enable Flash, and under Mime settings/Miscellananeous only check Quicktime HTML (QHTM).
You should also ensure, if you are running Tiger 10.4.11, that you have downloaded and installed all the correct version for your Mac of Security Updates up to and including 2008-003. (N.B. Security Updates require both a restart and a permission repair.)
In Macintosh HD/Library/Quicktime/ delete any files relating to DivX (Perian already has them). However it should be noted that Perian is not an internet plugin and will not play DivX files imbedded on a website. For that you will need the DivX Player browser plugin available from http://www.divx.com/divx/mac/
Now go to Safari Preferences/Security, and tick the boxes under Web Content (all 4 of them) to enable Java.
Lastly open Audio Midi Setup (which you will find in the Utilities Folder of your Applications Folder) and click on Audio Devices. Make sure that both Audio Input and Audio Output, under Format, are set to 44100 Hz, and that you have selected 'Built in Audio'.
Important: Now repair permissions and restart.
You should also consider having the free VLC Player from http://www.videolan.org/ in your armory, as this plays almost anything that DVD Player might not.
There is an additional 'fix' you could try if you are having problems with Flash and Quicktime, depending on which type of Mac you have:
On Intel Macs, make sure that you are not running Safari in Rosetta. You can check this, and change it, in the Get Info window.
On PPC Macs, go to the Hard Disk/Library/Internet Plug-Ins folder, and drag the file 'QuickTime Plugin.webplugin' to the desktop. Quit and restart Safari. If things have improved you can trash that file. If they haven't put it back, as the lack of this plug-in can cause QT content in some widgets to cease functioning.
And now there is an additional kid on the block: SilverLight. Microsoft has created their own version of what a replacement for Flash should be. You can read more about it here:
    http://silverlight.net/
So, if you go to any sites that have been designed for this new Silverlight stuff, you can download the plug-in from here (but make certain that you are downloading SilverLight v.1.0 for OS X (10.4.8 upwards):
    http://silverlight.net/GetStarted/
    FOOTNOTE
    If you are running Leopard:
Some users have mentioned that the latest Flash Player (v.9.0.115.0) conflicts with Leopard, and that they have needed to revert to v. 9.0.47. This can be downloaded from here:
    http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_14266&sliceId=1

  • Where did the Home Video tab go?

I have a MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2009) running Yosemite 10.10.2 and iTunes 12.1.50.  I also have about 900+ home videos taken by my various cameras and encoded using HandBrake or iMovie over the last 10 years.  30 of these movies have been on my phone for over a year and I regularly watch them.
I updated my iPhone 4 to iOS8.2 last night by doing a restore as if a new device.  This was recommended by a tech at the Apple Store since so much of my phone's  16GB was taken up by the operating system.  After that, I suddenly had more than 3GB more free space.  Yay!
But - right away, I noticed that only 3 of my 30 home videos had synched.  I had those 30 in a special playlist so I wouldn't have to sort through the other 870+.  I decided to remove them from the iPhone and try again, but it didn't work.  So, I decided to remove them from the playlist and add them again.  That's when I noticed that I cannot find the Home Videos tab in iTunes on my Mac anymore.  It was there earlier last night because I had just added new ones to iTunes (visual confirmed they were in the Home Video tab once added to library).  I tried to import all 900+ home movies, and it seemed to do something - but I still can't see them.
I tried to search for "Home Video" in the iTunes help menu - no hits.  I always use "Home Movies Favourites" as the Genre for the 30 I put on my phone, so I tried searching for that in the movie search box.  Nothing found again.  I tried searching for individual file names.  Nothing.
So - where did Home Videos go and how can I get it back?  My files are still on the hard drive, but I have spent hundreds of hours updating the tags in iTunes with irreplaceable info like dates, locations, memories, etc.
Apple - please stop making such drastic changes to iTunes every time we just finish getting used to your other changes!

Hello! I said... I want the ability to input analogue video into my camcorder so I can continue to transfer VHS and input and record video from other sources. The new HD cameras on the market will not allow you to record video from any source except for the lens.

  • Mini player for video podcasts? Where did it go?

I am having problems with the newest version of iTunes (11.1.2). Before, when I wanted to relegate a video podcast to the corner of my screen where it was viewable but didn't take up all of my screen space, I would click on the small rectangular miniplayer icon and get that - a small version of the video playing in the upper left hand corner of my screen.
Now if I double-click on a video podcast to launch it  it takes up much of the screen. Clicking on the miniplayer in that window goes to the grey rectangular miniplayer used for music, and in fact starts playing either a radio station (where did that come from?) or some other music. Not even the sound from the video podcast. Reverting back to the square shaped miniplayer with the program icon doesn't change that. There doesn't seem to be a way of playing a video podcast in a small window. The right button on top switches between full screen view and most-of-the-screen view. In older versions of iTunes that used to evoke the miniplayer, and video podcasts would shrink to a small view in the upper left hand corner of the screen.
Is there any way to solve this problem? I often want to watch video podcasts while also doing something else and the current screen-hogging doesn’t let me do that.
MacBook Pro 13" late 2009 running OSX 10.6.8. iTunes 11.1.2

Well, upgrading to ITunes 11.1.3 didn't solve the problem. It helped, in the sense that now I can get the square mini player and a still image of the video podcast, and the sound from the podcast works, but the image doesn't move.
I tried trashing the iTunes Preferences, hoping perhaps one was corrupt, but that didn't solve the problem either. I am now wondering if this is an OS glitch. While iTunes runs on OSX 10.6.8 (SL), which is what I use, it has problems, which perhaps don't appear in more recent OSs.
Can anyone confirm that on a machine running OSX 10.6.8 he/she has iTunes 11.1.3 with the mini player successfully running video podcasts?
    thanks

I added an SSD to my 27" 2011 iMac.  Although Sahidus is absolutely correct, it is much easier to add an SSD replacing the optical drive, it wasn't that bad to add it using an entirely seperate cable using SATA-III.  To me it is worth the extra hassle to install a SATA-III SSD.  This is where you are going to get maximum performance.
Although it appears complicated, if you go slow, the procedure to install an SSD drive isn't too bad.  It takes at most 3 hours, as long as you are prepared and have all the parts and tools.
    http://www.btobey.com/learn/imac-ssd-install.php
This describes how I did it.  Now I get awesome data performance from my iMac!
I think the 21.5" may be more difficult to find where to place the SSD.  But im sure it is possible.  Just be creative.

I had 1200 photos on my iPod - now I have 32. I connected my iPod to my new iMac - where did the rest of my photos disappear too? HELP!!! Originally they were on another PC not a Mac. My other PC died.
Could some one explain if I can retrieve them? Thanks. PS

Thanks for the input. I lost 1200 photos then I hope I put them on a disk somewhere. Otherwise, I am up the creek w/o a paddle. (sigh).
By the way, I LOVE my new iMac - so chic and cool! It is amazing!
