It most likely is disconnected or broken if someone has been working on that iMac.
Go to: Apple > About This Mac > More Info and in the Hardware secton select Audio (Built-in) and see if the Internal Microphone is listed there.
If it is, then go to: Applications > Utilities > open Audio MIDI Setup > select Built-in Input and fiddle around with the settings to see if you can get it working.
If not, then you need to have the Built-in Mic serviced and/or replaced.
Alternately there are Mac compatible USB Mic's and iSight Cameras out there that work well with iMac's.

I recently formated my laptop and didnt stop to think that I would need to back up my drivers. The OS was XP home edition but Ive installed XP Pro. I have lost my drivers where in Device Manager theres an exclamation mark under the heading of Other Devices:
Base System device, Ethernet controller, multimedia audio controller, network controller, universal serial bus, unknown device, video controller (VGA compatible)
This laptop is 2nd hand and I dont have any of the back up CDs. ekkkk!
When I try to connect to the net whether is wireless or through a net cable there are no network configuration details. I have also lost my Toshiba software also.
Im in deperate need of help, I would be most grateful for your help!

I dont know if you will be able to order the Toshiba recovery CD form the service partner in your country because you have purchase this as a second hand notebook.
However, on the Toshiba driver page you should find all the necessary drivers and tools.

You have to install the drivers in the right order. Chipset utility and the beginning.

I have noticed that my new MSI laptop has been experiencing strange framerate drops in some games. Dota 2, for example, will drop from 60fps to 9fps, and will not come back up unless I restart client. Assassin's Creed 3 does the same thing, but can be solved with an alt-tab
So I went to look for new Geforce drivers. I was shocked to find that I could not install the nvidia drivers from nvidia.com. wow!
So are we at the mercy of MSI for display driver updates? I did manage to find a driver on MSI.com, but it was actually an older version than the one that came pre-installed with the machine.
So is there anywhere else we can download more up-to-date drivers from??? As this is my first every MSI notebook, I am concerned that MSI is not going to provide timely driver updates.
Please tell me it isnt so.

311.83 is the latest MSI driver. MSI will release a new driver if necessary. It is also quite normal that the nvidia drivers don't work with customized OEM solutions. You can ask MSI for the next release: >>How to contact MSI.<<

I have bought our LENOVO SOLEIL E600A Laptop to my daughter in Shanghai 2005 and now after some virus attack format it all and reload Windows XP and Office 2007 again but then I noted that we have lost the Lenovo's original Driver CD which came with the computer and cannot load now the drivers. Does anybody know from where I can download the drivers for this computer, or is the only way to dig out the used chips by going to my computer>properties>hardware>device manager, write down the devices, and use Google to find out manufacturers' pages for each and try to download all one by one from there?

Do not worry about Linux drivers for your laptop. All needed drivers for most of the machines are on the Linux kernel. Most hardware are recognized by latest kernel. So all you have to do is install your distro and enjoy Linux.
The best way to check if all hardware are recognized is booting up a distro in live mode and test the hardware.
You can make a test with Linux Mint, and install their new and amazing DE called Cinnamon. I'm sure you will enjoy it.

Thanks for your prompt reply. I'm not sure how to connect to the monitor as the only ports available on this model mac are Thunderbolt. The mini display to display cable supplied doesn't seem to work out of the TB port. Do I need to use a Thunderbolt cable + an adaptor?

You won't find them until you are in Windows.
Helps to read even print the guide.
If you have auto run enabled, which is a security risk, the Apple setup.exe will run.
Otherwise, just run that.
Either use your OS X DVD, or use the drivers downloaded by Boot Camp Assistant.

I am a computer technician for a library and I am installing Windows 7 on four brand new Apple MiniMacs with OSX 10.8.1 on them (don't ask). The Mac came with no install Disks and the Bootcamp Assistant only downloads 64bit drivers for windows. I am installing Windows 7 32bit on them and I need the drivers. How can I get them? Can somebody assist me please?

Sorry for the rant. This is what happens everytime I have tried. I actually have a booting Windows 7 partition on here already but it is barely running on the stock/generic windows drivers that are just there to get the OS through install.
I have an OSX 10.6 disk, but it is 10.6.0, and I wasn't even able to make that boot into the Mac installer when I installed OSX on the new hard drive. I had to run my Macbook as a Firewire disk plugged into a Mac Pro and install it from there and update to 10.6.8. I think this was because the 10.6.0 install disk doesn't have drivers for my 2010 revision of the Macbook Pro. I doubt that the 10.6.0 disk has the right Windows drivers if it doesn't even have the right Mac drivers.

Drivers? You need a program to run them such as K-Jams. Then you will need to check your connections from the laptop to the monitor and make sure your settings are correct in System Preferences.
