where do I find "Appearance" in Mac OS 10.8.2 It is NOT in System Preferences
and
I am having a difficult time locating where I can change cursor size.  Even the Apple Store employees were stumped.  It seems when Apple upgrades software things get moved and they don't tell you where.  Has anyone else experienced this?

    It should be in /System/Library/Frameworks/
10.6 update 3 deprecated that path, and since that Java update (if you've installed it) it would be
    /Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/
    and
    /System/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/

Where do I find help contecting my IPhone 4 to my cars bluetooth hands free system?

Try the owner's manual or your dealer. Some in car systems have updates available to support iOS 4.
It might be hlepful if you gave us a little more information, like what kind of car, what, exactly, you've done to try to get it working and what the problem you're having is.
Some cars have systems that will do things like read you text messages and e-mail. Those features are NOT compatible with the iPhone.

In System Prefereneces, when I am in Desktop and Screen Saver, I am unable to remove folders. I've seen one other report like yours, and I think the issue is caused by a bug, but I don't know what triggers it.
Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, or by corruption of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and  Wi-Fi on certain iMacs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

We have mac os x  10.6.8  I wanted to load iCloud but it is not in system preferences. Does that mean I cannot add it to my imac? If I can, what do I need to do?

You need 10.7.5 or later for iCloud.
Upgrading from Snow Leopard to Lion or Mountain Lion
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99.
If you sign into the App Store and try to purchase Mountain Lion but the App Store says your computer is not compatible then you may still be able to upgrade to Lion per the following information.
    A. Upgrading to Mountain Lion or Mavericks
To upgrade to Mountain Lion or Mavericks you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion or Mavericks (Free) from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 5 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion — System Requirements
         OS X Mavericks- System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) —
                 Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.
    Are my applications compatible?
See App Compatibility Table — RoaringApps.
    B. Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mountain Lion, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service - this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.

  • ICloud is not a system preference on my Mac, OS x Version 10,5,8, What di I need to do? I have iClod on my i phone

I am trying to install iCloud on my mac. Its an old computer. 2009. iCloud is not a System preference. Also i tunes is too old to download songs etc
    What can I do ?
I have all these functions on my i phone 5

The minimum requirement for iCloud is Lion 10.7.5 (Mavericks preferred): the iCloud Preference Pane does not appear on earlier systems - the MobileMe pane appears on Lion and earlier but is now non-functional - you cannot now open or access a MobileMe account.
To make use of iCloud you will have to upgrade your Mac to Lion or Mavericks, provided it meets the requirements. As you are running Leopard you will have to upgrade to Snow Leopard first, provided you have an Intel Mac, which presumably is the case. (However if you have a PPC Mac you cannot run Snow Leopard and cannot proceed further.)
    The requirements for Lion are:
Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
    2GB of memory
    OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
    7GB of available space
Lion is available in the Online Apple Store ($19.99). Mountain Lion (10.8.x) is also available there at the same price (though it's reported to have been removed from sale in some countries so may well cease to be available generally) but there seems little point as the system requirements are the same for Mavericks (10.9.x) - which is free - unless you need to run specific software which will run on Mountain Lion only.
The requirements for Mountain Lion and Mavericks are:
    OS X v10.6.8 or later
    2GB of memory
    8GB of available space
      and the supported models are:
    iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
    Xserve (Early 2009)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
It is available from the Mac App Store (in Applications).
You should be aware that PPC programs (such as AppleWorks) will not run on Lion or above; and some other applications may not be compatible - there is a useful compatibility checklist at http://roaringapps.com/apps:table

  • TS3276 I created 2 Gmail addresses. My Mac recognizes and accept only one name in the System Preferences

I created 2 Gmail addresses. My Mac recognizes and accept only one name in the System Preferences.
When I send a mail with one of the address, the recipient receives it with this address, however, if he replies, the incoming address will be the second one? ? ?

I've never had a problem with multiple email addresses. My ISP's email account has multiple accounts and the same SMTP server, no problem.
I can't speak for GMail as I only have one, and that is my spam email account, so I don't really care what it sends.
I really don't understand your response.
What was "reviewed" and what was "ok" about it?
Their suggestion was to open a different session for each Gmail account.
"Different session." What does that mean?
Gmail is a very bizarre email server. It was designed to be web-based, but due to demand, they made it pseudo-compatible with POP and IMAP.
If you move email out of the Inbox, Mail will reply using the "default" email account, not necessarily the one that was originally associated with the message. Being that Gmail doesn't really have mailboxes or folders, but has tags it calls "Labels," it may have something to do with that issue.

  • Where can I find the downloaded Mac OS X v10.7 Lion?

Just purchased and installed the long awaited Lion (because the previous kittens were growning up ang getting obsolete.. Sorry, my kind of humor... ) and now I cannot find it on my laptop - does anyone know where it is saved once you pay and download it from the App Store?

Apple tell you how to redownload the installer again here:
    Install OS X Lion
If you completed your installation of OS X Lion, your installer may have been removed after your successful first login to OS X Lion. Mac App Store's Purchases page should show Install Mac OS X Lion as being "Installed", and disallow its download, when viewed from a computer running OS X Lion.
To redownload the installer on a computer running OS X Lion, press and hold the Option key while you click the Purchases tab. If the button to the right of the Install Mac OS X Lion item doesn't change to "Install" and allow you to download Lion, use Spotlight to search for "Install Mac OS X Lion" on your computer.
Launch the Install Mac OS X Lion installer you downloaded from Mac App Store. The installer should be in the /Applications folder.
Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the Lion installation. Be sure you install Lion on the external storage device you've connected for this purpose, not your computer's boot drive.
When installation to your external device is complete, you can re-run Install Mac OS X Lion installer and upgrade the boot drive of your computer. A Recovery HD will likely not be created, but if you need to reinstall or repair your boot drive at a later date, you can connect the external drive you just prepared and hold cmd-r while restarting computer in order to boot from the external Recovery HD.

  • Where can I find downloads for Mac OS 7-9 (out of curiosity)

I briefly remember that apple offered Operating systems older than Mac OS X for download but I still can't find them. If you knows were to find Mac OS 7-9 please tell me at your earliest convenience.

    Hi, glider -
Can you update Mac OS 7/8 straight to Mac OS 9?
Yes, on those machines rated by Apple for OS 9. You will need to acquire a retail OS 9 Install CD in order to do that - there are no download updates to take any version of OS 7 to any version of OS 8, nor any version of OS 8 to any version of OS 9. Each of those major-version jumps can be made only by using a retail OS Install CD; however, intermediate versions are not needed.
The best way to install a major-version jump is via a Clean Install. Note that a Clean Install (in Mac terminology) will not remove anything; instead, it installs a brand new System Folder, renames the old one to Previous System Folder, installs a new set of utility apps, and little else.

As far as suitability of OS 9 for an older machine, this Apple KBase article lists what OS versions (amongst the OS 8 and OS 9 families) are supported by Apple for which machines -

  • Where can i find iWeb on mac os x?

    Hi buddies,
I've allready download the latest upgrade but it says that I haven't the software yet but It has to be on the computer right? Either way I would have try to find it on the app store but nothing except upgrades.... What am I suppose to do to create my website?? I'm not a webmaster, so I'm looking for something easy and with a lot of choice... Will I have to create it online? and if you think so could you give me some advices?
    Thank you in advance
    Merci d'avance

    Salut Jane -
IWeb is no longer installed on Macs or available on the App Store - Apple stopped upgrading/supporting it. If you want it, look for older boxed versions of iLife (the last updated version with iWeb is iLife '11.)
However, iWeb isn't your only option for simple web design. There are several programs available - RapidWeaver is pretty good. Your web host may also have a simple website builder in their control panel.

  • Where do i find imessage on mac?

i downloaded the lion app thing and i youtubed the i message for mac and it said its called the "new app" but i cant find it.. can anbody help me? -Thanks

HELP! My iMac died after installing iMessages Beta. It asked me to restart the computer, which I did. Then it takes me to the logon screen but after logging on the wheel spins and spins and the apple logo won't go away. I can hear the hard disk restarting over and over.
This seems very serious based  on feedback found on different posts - has anyone had the same problem?
    Any advice apart from this:

  • Where do you find a refurbished Mac Mini other than Apple?

Bare w/ me for a moment.  Here's my situation...
I currently have a 2003 1.25 Ghz single processor MDD.  I got it on eBay for about $200 a few years ago and it looks almost brand new.  Also have about $200 in replacing the hard drive, PRAM battery and adding more RAM to the limit of 2GB.  I love the Mac, but it's been doing the infamous start-up problem lately.  Have read here that the PRAM battery needs replaced, since it was unplugged for a while.  Am in the process of ordering a new battery...
Anyway, if (hope not!) the MDD becomes toast, I can't afford and don't have the time to fix it.  If it dies, I'll need to sell (how much is a dead MDD worth?) or give it to another Mac person that would want to work on it...  I certainly would not put it in the landfill (I try to be "green.")!  It runs Tiger and was thinking about upgrading it to Leopard, but that OS is at least $100 on eBay...  Am getting scared that the MDD isn't going to be reliable and I want to stay with a desktop.  I do not want an iMac because of they're too expensive and hard to upgrade if needed.  Certainly don't want a G5 with all of its cooling etc. problems.  Apple is making it hard on chosing a decent desktop, IMO.  I am a Windows "switcher" and like Mac and its easy way of doing most things.  Certainly don't want to be forced to go back to uh, Windows just because of limited destop choices...!
Anyway, back to the subject matter at hand...
Have looked at used Minis on of course, eBay.  Can't believe that a lot of them are going for ridiculous prices, as a new one from Apple is about $700 (which I think is insane!).  Of course, my budget is limited and most the ones that are in my price range are the G4's.  Have read how "fun" it is to upgrade the G4's etc., and I don't want to even miss with that if I had to!  I can't afford the refurbished ones from Apple.  They're almost as expensive as a brand new one.  Have only found refurblised ones at Power Max, but most of them only have small drives (80GB or less) and less than 1GB of RAM.  Are there any other companies that have refurbished Minis available at a decent price?  I wouldn't be able to afford much more that $350-$400.
Sorry for rambling on, but I maybe getting at wits end, if the MDD croaks!  Just want to see what my possible options are.  Thanks.

when it doubt, purchase applecare. we have been successful in applying applecares to cowboom items
and then having them fix small problems, like a bad wireless card, but your milage will vary. apple wont
applecare ebay items, but best buy is a licensed apple dealer so they might go for it.
we have received scratch and dents from cowboom, but so far apple of course won't remove the
dents or scratches of course, but for other problems with refurbished or reconditioned cowboom items
    applecare has been most generous
ive also noticed that amazon is a good place to buy new mac products, they had a gold box deal on a mac mini server
