Where Do I Find Encore's Automatic Transcode Settings?

I am putting the finishing touches on a 1.75hr, NTSC 4:3, 5.1 (AC3), 2 lead-in AVIs, one Main Menu + 3 Scene Selection Menus (non-animated) and one Play All Playlist Project and have done several +RW burns to check things out. Everything fits nicely on 4.3GB +RW.
Now my questions: everything has been set to DVD-5, and Encore to Automatic. I have looked for the Transcode settings, but cannot find them. I have read through the manual, F1 and Jeff Bellunes Encore Focal Guide, but cannot find what I am looking for now. The Audio and Video quality are good, but I do not mind going to a DVD-9 (DL), if I can increase either. Where do I look to find what Encore chose? If I want to do DL at max. quality and bitrate of 7, do I need to set the Transcode settings of each Video Asset? This project will only play on set-top DVD players, and most are fairly recent models, that all handle DL.
As is, it works OK, but I am wondering how to tell if I can go higher quality at some point, if DL is a viable option. I dont want to just waste a DL, if what I already have is as good as it gets.
I know that the answer has stared me in the eye on many occasions, but I just cannot find, what I think I am looking for.
TIA,
Hunt

Bill.
Try running a sort of "manual Bit-Budget" to see what the numbers say.
DVD5 = 37,600 Megabits.
DVD9 = 68,000 Megabits.
Ideally, we subtract an overhead of 4% to allow for variables.
This gives us the following values:
DVD5 = 36,000
DVD9 = 65,000.
Let us first subtract the Audio.
1.75 hours at 0.448Mb/sec = 2,882.4 Megabits
(0.448 (The data rate of DD 5.1) * 60 (seconds) *105 (minutes) )
This leaves us with (36000 - 3000) = 33,000 Megabits.
I do not know the running tome of the lead-in AVI clips, but let us assume 5 minutes in total.
This gives us 33,000 megabits to fit 110 Minutes of Video.
So.
110 minutes = 6,600 seconds.
33,000 / 6600 = 5 Megabits/second available for film.
This is under 6, so will be a VBR encode with an average bitrate of 5Mb/sec.
For DVD9.
Same Audio.
Same sums except the total megabits for video is larger, so we have
65,000 - 3000 = 62,000.
62,000 / 6600 = 9.3939 Mbits/second for the video is available.
Now, the highest possible allowed rate for DVD-Video - 10.08 for all combined.
For Audio & Video combined it is taken as 9.8 Mbits/second.
On a pressed, or replicated disc this is fine.
On written media we need to be more careful, so we set a peak video bitrate of 7Mb/sec - which although will not fill a DVD9, will present the highest possible compromise between playability on maximum number of players & highest quality.
You may experiment & go as high as 8Mb/sec, but I would generaly not recommend this to written media, DL especially.
There is a chance players will choke due to the higher error rate from the reduced reflectivity available with written media & DL media in particular.
It does give you almost a 50% increase in bitrate on your video.
Minimal is 40% gain in bits.
This will certainly make your film look better.
I think it is worthwhile going to DVD9.

  • How to Change Encore Automatic Transcode Settings?

I normally use Encore CS6 Automatic Settings because I have no idea how big the file will be and Encore automatically does the math for me. I want to change the Automatic DVD setting to Progressive but it is says "Lower Field First" and it is grayed out. How do I change it?

Does PR report the size of both files combined when exporting demuxed? (I don't know.)
Remember that a DVD called "4.7 Gigabytes" is really only 4.38GB. I don't know which version PR reports (GB or GiB). Encore, naturally, reports using one version in one panel and the other in another panel.
For example, in the Encore project panel, it will report a file size as X.XGB. But when it lists the amount of the disk used and free in the build panel, it is reporting bytes with "GB" after it.
Encore uses padding (It says the file will be bigger than it calculates) for bluray, but not DVD. Main point: it is difficult to calculate using Encore's (and probably PR's) stated estimates.
Remember than until Encore (any authoring program) combines the demuxed video and audio streams (potentially multiple audio streams) during the build, it really does not know how big the files will be.
I played the DVD it burned and it also looked all deinterlaced and jaggedy.
I'm still not clear re the field issues in your material.
Are you sure than Encore did not transcode the material again? What did encore say on import in the DVD transcode status column? Do not transcode?

  • Automatic transcode settings can't close DVD image in standard 4,7gb size

So I have this feature film of a marriage 1h30m long that Encore refuses to generate an ISO of standard DVD size. The point is, for some reason this project in particular is generating a 6gb image, in the settings that even 2h10m fits standard DVD size. What am I doing wrong? What to do now?
    Encore 5.1

On an automatic transcode, Encore uses what you have already transcoded in the project plus menus, motion menus, etc, and uses settings to fit the rest on the disk. If you transcode some assets early, then others later, Encore will transcode the first ones at higher bitrates and not be able to go low enough to get the others to fit.
I have not tested whether this will actually result in too big for the disk, but I suspect it might.
You could look at the transcoded files in the Encore folders and check them with mediainfo or gspot for bitrate to see if they vary.

  • Where can I find a general information about settings of the PCI-IMAQ-1411 board?

There is many attributes in the properties dialog of the IMAQ channel in the M&A Explorer. For example Mode (Frame/Field), Lock speed (Slow/Normal/Fast/Very Fast), Luma Comb (Disabled/Enabled). Where can I find a comprehensible description of them?

The starting point is the help file. There is a section with the title: "Setting IMAQ Device and Camera Properties". That section provide some explanations about the properties and options to configure your IMAQ cameras.
You can obtain more information by visiting the Developer Zone at the NI website. Look for the Vision section at the Resource Library. The exact address is:
    http://zone.ni.com/devzone/devzone.nsf/webproducts/7d6146d8c67a832e862567f1006c29ee?opendocument
You will find explanations, tutorials and examples about different topics in vision, including configuration descriptions.
Finally, a full understanding of some properties requires knowledge about vision and image processing. A good book about Image Processing in general should be of benefit.

  • "automatic" transcode settings is not filling my DVD capacity

I've put together four AVI files in Encore and every time I go through the "build" process 20 GB worth of material is reduced down to 720 MB (approx).  I always thought that a great advantage in using Encore was that it filled your material to fit the medium.  I'm using a DVD not CD giving me more than 4GB.  How do I get "build" to maximize my project into a single DVD, or DVD image?
    Thanks...

"What version of Encore?"   Encore cs4
"Do you have any material in the DVD-ROM content?  (Look on the build tab.)"  Yes, it indicates 526 KB used for DVD-ROM content.
" Is it "Untranscoded" and "Automatic"?"      Untranscoded.
"In the Project Settings, Advanced tab, what do you have set for the maximum Audio/Video Datarate?"   8.0 Mbps
As no changes were made from my original setup, my results are the same: Format: DVD; Output: DVD Image; Disc Info: 723.2 MB used, 3.96 GB free.  My four AVI files total about 20 GB.  Again, my original question, why doesn't Encore use up another 3 GB to maximize the data available which must produce a better running DVD video than information on a mere 723 MB?
I do thank you for your assistance.  I'm sure that there must be something else I'm missing.

  • Where can I find the critical iTunes files/settings -- transferring data to new HD

Hi -- I recently installed a new internal Seagate 1TB SSHD drive into my MBP 15" Late 2011 to replace the OEM 500GB internal HD.  Did a clean install with OS X Recovery.  So far so good.  But I didn't transfer over the iTunes settings + whatever files are the formats of the music I've imported into iTunes.   (due  to previous space constraints I took the actual mp3 files and put those on an external previously and just left the iTunes version of the files).
I should have all the relevant iTunes files on on backup drive -- that is I transferred all the system files to the external drive.
Would someone please let me know the names of the critical files for iTunes  -- I'd hate to have to start over and import the music and the cover art and all the rest of it!
Also if you could tell me where these files actually reside (i.e. what folders, etc).  Thanks!

  • Transcode settings in Encore CS3 for 24 frames?

Ok so I exported my 3 short films (all 23.976) and then dropped them into encore. Used the "automatic" transcode settings, and burned a DVD. Looks like crap. I found I can make my own preset for transcoding, so what settings should I be using to make the video not jittery and blurry.I tried putting the transcode setting to 23.976, and it sped the video up, and left the audio at the same speed....which doesn`t make sense. My source video is 23.976....so thats not the right way to do it. How do I make a 24 frames DVD?

How do I make a 24 frames DVD?
My own experience with this is that you must create a 24p MPEG2 file with appropriate pulldown flags for use in Encore.  Any other option and Encore will mess up the pulldown.

  • Project Setting - Transcoding Settings question

    Hello all,
I am a bit confused on the Encore settings.    Should I leave them as the default or should I tweak them??    The DVD tests that I have made seem to have a little bit of interlacing during playback in the Sony player that I am using via HDMI to the Sony TV.
When I check "project settings" in Encore it shows:  Transcode Settings:   Codec MPEG 2, 720x480 Frame Rate 29.97  (my project is 23.976fps)
                                                                                                                  Fields : Lower Field First
When I check "edit quality presets"   It shows  Export Settings -  MPEG2 Blu-ray,    1280x720p  23.976
                                                                        Summary:
                                                                        Output:           1280x720 23.976  De-interlaced
                                                                         Source           1920 x 1080  23.98,  Lower
                                                                         Basic Video Settings:
                                                                                                         1280x720,  23.976
                                                                                                          Field Order  None(progressive)
I guess It just seem like there is conflicing info with the Fields and with the Frame Rate.
Is this the way it is supposed to be or do I need to customize the settings?
Thank you in advance for being nice.

    Stan,
Ok..just to clarify.  Sorry for the long delay.
When I start encore and I get the "new project" window,  I select DVD and
under the transcode settings, it shows Fields: Lower Field First.
Is this ok?   I guess I would think it would be None or Progressive
    Thanks
    Ted

  • Error loading transcode settings

I have a finished DV sequence in Premiere 5. I placed Encore chapter points in the timeline. I use adobe dynamic link to load sequence into encore using default transcode settings. Project loads in encore with this error: error loading transcode preset. The timeline plays fine in encore. Timeline is pink color in encore.
    What have I done wrong?
    Thanks

I started a new project and everything seems to be working fine this time. Possibly false alarm...

  • Where we can find the detail infomation about the Value String of automatic

Where we can find the detail infomation about the Value String of automatic?
such as WE06,WE01 and so on.

    Hai,
Value string keys are for SAP internal usage. It is just a pointer to the transaction event key which is necessary for automatic account determination.
Movement types are linked to transaction keys via valuation string in OMWN T-code.
The R/3 System automatically determines the value string assigned to a specific transaction. It depends partly on entered parameters manually and partly on parameters derived internally by the system. The value string contains all posting transactions that are possible for a certain transaction. The program decides which of these posting transactions lead to G/L account postings in individual cases. You cannot define this in Customizing.
Value string WE01, for the goods receipt for a purchase order into stock, contains transactions BSX and WRX.
WE01: BSX, WRX, PRD, KDM, EIN, EKG, BSV, FRL, FRN, BSX, UMB.
    WA14: BSX ,PRD, BSX, UMB
WA01: BSX, GBB, PRD, BSX, UMB
Value string RE05 contains transactions BSX and UMB.
In the standard system, value string WE01 is assigned to goods receipts (and also cancellations and return deliveries) for Standard and Subcontracting purchase order items without account assignment concerning valuated material into stock. In the case of (valuated) goods receipts for purchase order items not subject to account assignment,
post the items to a stock account using the transaction key BSX and make an offsetting entry to a GR/IR clearing account. A price difference posting (transaction key PRD) is only used if the valuated material is subject to standard price control and if the order price (or invoice price) is different from the standard price. Transaction key KDM is required in Inventory Management for purchase orders in foreign currencies because of differences in exchange rates between goods receipts and invoice receipts, unless the material can not be debited or credited because it is subject to standard price control.
The transaction keys EIN and EKG (and possibly FRE – see account determination for delivery costs) are only used in company codes where purchase account management is active (as required in France and Belgium for example).
The transaction keys BSV, FRL, and FRN are only used for the Subcontracting item category.
Value string WA14 is defined for deliveries without charge (movement type 511).
    The following scenarios are possible:
Delivery without charge for material subject to moving average price control → No accounting document
Delivery without charge for material subject to standard price control (and if the posting date is in the previous period – standard price in the posting period = standard price in the current period) → Inventory posting (receipt at standard price) and offsetting entry to price differences account
Delivery without charge for material subject to standard price control, with posting date in the previous period and the standard price in the posting period is different to the standard price in the current period → Inventory posting (receipt at standard price) and offsetting entry to price differences account (posting in the previous period) → Stock correction posting and Revenue/expense from revaluation (posting in the current period)
In the standard system, value string WA01 is assigned to goods issues and other goods receipts. The R/3 System uses an additional influencing factor, account grouping, to differentiate further between the various movements during account determination.
Hope it will be Helpful 4 u.
    Reward Point if Useful.

  • Half my video track missing after automatic transcode in Encore CS3

I'm using the automatic transcode option on a MS DV-AVI file about 2.5 hours long. After transcoding, half the video is missing from the timeline and the project size is less than 2 GB. I can revert the asset back to AVI, and then the video reappears. I've tried re-transcoding several times now, and keep getting the same result.
