Where do I find idvd

I am using imovie and have now completed my first project.  I watched the tutorial to set up a dvd and it said to go to share, and use iDVD.  The option wasn't showing but it was when i right clicked on the project so followed that route.  However I got a message saying Where is iDVD and nothing happened.  Nothing is showing in the app list but I thought this was part of i movie.  I then upgraded my imovies from the app store, restarted and iDVD is not showing.  Looked for a programme in the app store, nothing there.  Where is idvd?

Why is there no iDVD on my new Mac? How do I get it and how do I install it?

Why is there no iDVD on my new Mac?

    UPDATE & ADDENDUM:
But even though you can still buy iLife 11 that includes iDVD 7 from Amazon, Apple now make it difficult to install:
Poster jhb21939 posted this in another thread:
“when I attempted to load iDVD into a new iMac. A notice came up on the screen stating that the 'Authorisation Licence' had expired on 25 March this year (2012).
I contacted the Apple support team and eventually, I was told that the Licence had been withdrawn and could no longer be used.”
In other words Apple are now so adamant that we don’t use iDVD that they have tried to make it impossible to install.
In response, Old Toad posted this solution:
“You can still use it one all of your Macs.  If you get an invalid certificate message just set your Mac's clock to sometime before early 2011 and run the installer.  After you're done reset the time back to the correct time.” He added this comment:
“It began after iDVD and iWeb were discontued and they were dropped from the Apple Store. All I can think of is the certificate was set to expire after a certain time period after the intitial iLife disc was released.
I've been able to use the installer even without setting back the date.  I just clicked on the Continue button and it would work as expected.  For some it would not continue unless the date was set back.”
The latest anorexic iMacs just announced do not even include a CD drive! Proof positive that Apple virtually prohibit the use of DVDs - although the newly announced Mac Minis do include a Superdrive.
Yet, they still include iMovie! Heaven alone knows or understands what you are supposed to do with your newly edited masterpiece - except make a low quality version for YouTube?

  • Where do I find iDVD according to my manual(the missing manual) if I have imovie 11 then I  should have iDVD.my Mac is OS X 10.8.4 can anyone help?

Need help with burning a dve from an imovie I have completed. I cannot find iDVD which i understand I should have with my original package.
    Can anyone help.
    Many thanks

iDVD has been discontinued by Apple and new machines don't include it or even a DVD drive for burning.
If you've purchased the iLife suite on DVD then you can re-install iDVD from it. It is not a part of any OS X.

  • Where can I find iDVD please

I am in need of iDVD toi create a DVD from FCPx, please can you show me where I can download it from the official Apple site

BTW, my 06 and higher isn't quite accurate. You may come across iLife 11 that does not include iDVD. Also, you may find it odd that iLife 06 is pricier than later versions. That 06 edition included the much-loved iMovie 06 HD, whereas the later editions included a totally re-designed iMovie.
And yes, Karsten's tips document is a great resource.

  • Where do I find idvd on lion?

I'm really confused about idvd on Lion.   There's no icon for it.  Also I can't get imovie to share to idvd so I can burn a dvd of my project.  So far I am unimpressed with Lion.  It's confusing and imovie does nothing but crash and error.  What is a heap zone?  and what is a parameter moething or other that prevents my movie to finish sharing so I can get to idvd to burn a dvd???    Please speak English as I am not versed in geek-speak.  I havea new Macbook Pro  2.8GHz Intel Core i7 with 8GB 1333 Mhz DDR3 memory.  My computer is only a month or two old.  I've taken off any programs I'd installed hoping that would help but it made no difference.  Thanks for any help.

The current Apple thinking is that the entire world has access to fast broadband and wants to distribute home movies to friends and relatives via download (iCloud) rather than mailing them a DVD. The fact that in reality not all users do, has so far had no effect on this policy. If you scream and shout loudly enough down the phone Apple may send you a free copy of iDVD. That worked for some, but is now said to have been withdrawn by Apple. Also, you can complain bitterly here, perhaps suggesting that Apple could have provided a choice between using iCloud and burning DVDs:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/
Whilst Macs with a Superdrive continue to be able to burn video DVDs, the software for so doing, iDVD, is no longer included in the iLife bundle that comes with OS 10.7 Lion (which also omitted iWeb) or will come with OS 10.8 Mountain Lion. And it is no longer included in the iLife 11 from the online Apple Store: http://www.apple.com/ilife/. Your only solution is to look on Amazon or eBay and try to get an older version that includes iDVD.
However, the vastly more expensive FCPX can burn a DVD without iDVD or DVD Studio Pro involvement, but lack the themes etc of iDVD. Also, of course, there is Roxio Toast.

  • Where can I find iDVD to install?

I just want to be sure that iDVD is in iLife '11.... or in another version? I need to burn home movies of the kids!

    Hi
Version no: and title no: differs and are far from logic.
    iDVD 08 (7.0.1) (2008)
    iDVD 09 (7.0.4) (2009)
    iDVD 11 (7.1.0) (2010-10-21) (7.1.2 2011-07-14)
But if You got iDVD 08 (7.0.1) then You only need to do a program up-date and
You'll get 7.1.2 (latest and last one)

  • Where can I find additional iDVD button art

I've got iLIFE 11 installed on my MacBook (Lion), but I don't have any previous versions of iLife. There are very few button options to choose to customize my menus. Where can I find, and how do I import, additional buttons into iLife 11?

Wow! Really, you just can't? How about all the button art from the previous versions? Can those be found somewhere and imported. The iDVD button art from the latest version (came on the iLife 11 disc) is really sparse! Can you "make" your own button art? Thanks for your help.

  • I don't have iDVD on my Mac. Where do I find apps to render my movies into DVD?

I don't have iDVD on my new Mac.  Where do I find an app that will render my videos, so they can be burned as a DVD movie.?

Why is there no iDVD on my new Mac?
Apple insists that the entire world has access to fast broadband (and are prepared to pay for the considerable bandwidth usage) and wants to distribute home movies to friends and relatives via download (iCloud, YouTube, Facebook, whatever) rather than mailing them a DVD. The fact that in reality not all users do, has so far had no effect on this policy. If you scream and shout loudly enough down the phone Apple may send you a free copy of iDVD. Stating that they would return their brand new Mac unless they received a copy of iDVD worked for some, but that is now said to have been withdrawn by Apple. Also, you can complain bitterly here, perhaps suggesting that Apple could have provided a choice between burning DVDs and distributing home movies by other means:
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/
Whilst Macs with a Superdrive continue to be able to burn video DVDs, the software for so doing, iDVD, is no longer included in the iLife bundle that comes with OS 10.7 Lion (which also omitted iWeb) or will come with OS 10.8 Mountain Lion. And it is no longer included in the iLife 11 from the online Apple Store: http://www.apple.com/ilife/. Your only solution is to look on Amazon or eBay and try to get an older version that includes iDVD 7, i.e. iLife version 9 onwards. You should also do this if you plan to buy a new Mac anytime soon, as stocks of iLife that include iDVD will not be available for ever.
However, the vastly more expensive FCPX can burn a DVD without iDVD or DVD Studio Pro involvement, but lack the themes etc of iDVD. Also, of course, there is Roxio Toast, which is the best software for burning anything but again does not offer the flexibility of iDVD.
And if you think Microsoft are any better, their new Windows 8 operating system will not play DVDs, or burn them, unless customers buy an extra upgrade, the company has announced:  http://www.gizmag.com/windows-8-no-dvd-playback/22443/
In other words, computer manufacturers have declared optical media as dead, long before consumers are ready to stop using them, which is fine as long as they offered us a choice, but they won’t even do that. Flexibility and intuitive use of a computer seems to be a thing of the past.

Then use multipel 99 picture slideshows.
You can have up to 8 or 9 slideshows per menu.  If you add a sub menu reduce that by 1 and add 8 more to the sub menu.  The top menu can have links to up to 8 or so submenus (depends on the theme) and each submenu can have up to 8 or so slideshows.
However, converting a very large slideshow to a QT movie as Terence suggested does not envoke the 99 slide limit in iDVD.  It just becomes a single video/movie file.  So you should not have a problem with exporting at the large size, 720 x 540,
and dragging the resulting file into the iDVD menu being sure to avoid any drop zones.

  • Where can I Find More SlideShow Themes?

I have been searching the store and Google looking for more Aperture slideshow themes, can anyone point me in a direction where I can find more?

I now have the same questions for iMovie and iDVD. I am having fun and creating some very cool videos for my clients, but need a larger selection of themes for all the applications.
How about making some available in the new store? Giving a starter set and then offering more in the store would be a good $$ model.

  • Where can I find explanations for all the export options?

[ Re-posting this from the iPhoto & iDVD branches ]
When I export a slideshow in iPhoto 9, choose 'Custom export' and then hit the 'Options' button, a dialog pops up with Video & Sounds options that can further be explored. In the Video section, I can click on the 'Settings' button, amongst others, to reveal lots of things that can be tweaked (Compressor Type, Motion, Data Rate & Compressor).
Where can I find help and explanations of what all these settings do, when to change them, why they should be changed, to what values and what effects these all have on the overall output?
Apple has a user manual for FCE4 on their web-site and I recognise some of these iPhoto slideshow export settings from similar dialog boxes from within FCE4. Does a user manual for iPhoto 9 exist also? I can't find it on Apple's web-site.
It has been suggested to me that these are all standard QT settings/options - hence the re-post to this forum.

It's always been up to each user to find all of the "hidden gems" in any OS software. Most of us experiment, test, try, fail and try again with all the options. Along the way we learn what works, what doesn't. I've played, poked and prodded QuickTime Pro for the last ten years and even wrote a "book" about it. I have over 200 bookmarks to resources and links that help me sort things out.
    Onto some answers:
    1. on your list is actually a three part question. Since you probably can't burn a true "HD" DVD we'll leave that part out.
You can easily "share" your iPhoto files with iDVD and burn in SD 16:9 format. You need to learn nothing about the compression options as iDVD will do all of the work. The Web based file formats (from the same source file) are an easy "trick" in QuickTime Pro.
QuickTime Pro includes an export option "Export for Web" that will make up to 4 "versions" of your source file and even write the html code for you to copy/paste into your Web pages. It creates up to 4 versions (iPhone, iPod, Desktop and cell phone) with just one export and writes html page code that can "read" your connected visitors "speed" to serve up just the right file for the device.
Your number 2 question is answered by your SD DVD media device. Can't make a sow's ear into a silk purse. But you could use QuickTime Pro export options to create a "true" HD file and display it on your HD TV. If your HD TV includes HDMI connections (and all should) you could either connect your camera directly to the TV (via cables) to display the "raw" video captures or use iTunes (free) application to export HD video to an appliance like Apple TV.
My "book" (a downloadable PDF) does include an explanation about nearly all of the QuickTime available codecs but it's probably not needed for your particular workflow. The built-in preset exports are all you probably need to use.
Compression type = file format (AVI, MP3, MOV, etc.).
Motion = frame rate allows you to change the source frame rate to meet the restrictions of your delivery media (nearly always adjusted to reduce file size for Web delivery). E.G source is 30 fps and delivery is 15 fps (reduces file size).
Key frames = "special" frames of the video that either "predict" or "optimize" for the delivery media format. The Export for Web feature of QuickTime Pro defaults should be all you need.
Quality slider = is "optional" but usually defaults to "medium". In most cases this is best left at the default setting.
Dimensions = file size dimensions. Well crafted, H.264 video codec QuickTime files will look very good when displayed at up to twice the file export dimension. This means you can display a Web based 640X480 file at "Full Screen" size (display resolution) without much degradation of video quality. Older codecs will not look as good when doubled in size.
Preserve Aspect ratio = just what it says. Widescreen source = widescreen display.
    De-interlace source = http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deinterlacing
Hope this helps you sort things out.
Data rate = the amount of compression (data limit)

  • I can not find Idvd on my iMac, and I have Apple USB super drive

Where can I get IDVD from, I can find updates but not the original file. I bought my iMac last year with the Superdrive but was never given the IDVD programme

If iDVD was not preinstalled on your Mac you'll have to obtain it by purchasing a copy of the iLife 09 disk from a 3rd party retailer like Amazon.com: ilife 09: Software or eBay.com.  Why, because iDVD (and iWeb) was discontinued by Apple over a year ago.
Why iLife 09 instead of 11?
If you have to purchase an iLife disc in order to obtain the iDVD application remember that the iLife 11 disc only provides  themes from iDVD 5-7.  The Software Update no longer installs the earlier themes when starting from the iLIfe 11 disk nor do any of the iDVD 7 updaters available from the Apple Downloads website contain them.
Currently the only sure way to get all themes is to start with the iLife 09 disc:
This shows the iDVD contents in the iLife 09 disc via Pacifist:
You then can upgrade from iDVD 7.0.3 to iDVD 7.1.2 via the updaters at the Apple Downloads webpage.
Follow this workflow to help assure the best quality video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.
