Where do i find my backups?

I use a EHD for Time Machine, but when I look at my "about" section in Apple Prefs it says I have 53g of backups. I also had 26g of photos so I moved my iPhoto library to the EHD. Now it says I have 79g of backups. It went up by the same number of gigs an my Iphoto library that I moved to the EHD. ***? I don't get it. I just want to find these backups and get rid of them from my macbook HD since I use Time Machine on an EHD. Also when I search for backups in Finder it just shows me Tiime Machine. Please Help.

In that case, open System Preferences > Time Machine, and turn it off. Then, turn it on again. What you are seeing are local snapshots, which are backups created automatically by OS X in the hard drive in case you don't have access to the Time Machine drive.
You can also turn off local snapshots by typing this command into Terminal, but you don't need it:
sudo tmutil disablelocal

    I am still on Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and do not have iCloud in my System Preferences. I have registered with iCloud online and backed up my iphone5 last night to my iMac. Where can I find the backup on my iMac?
    Below is what comes up when I sign into iCloud - where are all the other applications that I need to backup?
    Appreciate any answers to this query?
    Rachel

    Your question is unclear.  If you're backing up to your iMac, (via iTunes, with cable or WiFi), this has nothing to do with iCloud and the backup is stored on your iMac here:
    : ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/

    How do I backup my iphone to a computer when every time I plug it into the computer, it starts syncing it to itunes or trying to download itunes?  How do I back it up and where do I find the backup?

    The backup does not include any itunes content. NO apps, music,etc
    You can transfer itunes purchases from iphone to computer:  File>Transfer Purchases
    You need to copy everything from your backup copy of your old computer to your new computer.

    where can i find the backup files stored on my mac?

    If you are asking about where iTunes stores backup files, see this knowledge base article for the info.
    If a general statement of backups, then then you have to look at each application to see where it saves according to its preferences window.

    5. Click OK.
    Now you should be able to track down your backup file at the location in the following document:

  • Where do I find the backup files when the iPhone is backed up?

    Where do I find the backup files when the iPhone is backed up?
    Thanks in advance.

    On the Mac they're at ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup. But, there aren't files there you can directly use - the backup is actually a SQLite database.
    iPhone Backup Extractor (Google it) is a free Mac utility that can access some parts of the backup.

  • Where can I find this backups?

    Hi! As you see in the picture, my Mac have 80,5 in backups. Recently I run the command "tmutil disablelocal" for stop the auto local store of Time Machine backup but my Mac still store some of those backup. Where can I find those files? I search in "/Volumes/MobileBackups" and the folder doesn´t exist. I'm using OS X Yosemite.
    Thank you for the help.

    When  you disabled it via the Terminal they should have been erased.
    Time Machine Snapshots
    Open the Terminal in the Utilities folder and enter or paste the appropriate command line. Press RETURN and enter your admin password when prompted. It will not be echoed. Press RETURN again.
         To turn them ON: sudo tmutil enablelocal
         To turn them OFF: sudo tmutil disablelocal
    Note that turning them OFF will also delete all existing snapshots.
    For more about snapshots see: OS X Mountain Lion- About local snapshots.

  • HT1386 Where can I find my backup contact list

    We shared an icloud back up with my daughter & she deleted contacts from her phone which ended up deleting my husband's very important contacts. Even on the cloud they are gone. I would have thought it would take more than just one deleting on the phone for the contacts to be completely erased but that seems to not be the case. When trying to restore his phone I can't even get the contacts back. I have spent 3 days trying to do this & find his contacts but no luck.... Are they hidden somewhere on itunes maybe? Where might I be able to find his contacts? Please help!

    When you share an iCloud account any actions taken on one device (such as deleting contacts) are mirrored on all other devices sharing the account.  (That's what iCloud is desiged to do; sync changes to all your devices.)  Unfortunately, contacts are not included in the iCloud backup as they are assumed to be stored in your iCloud account.  If the contacts are no longer on icloud.com, you will have to find another backup source to recover them from.

  • HT201269 where do I find the "backup" option in itunes?

  • Why won't itunes show timestamps of the last year of back ups? Where do I find my backups that aren't listed?

    A couple of days ago my phone died. I put it into recovery and when I tried to restore my data it told me that I had the wrong password. I tried every password that I could think of and then decided to set the phone up as a new phone, thinking that I'd be able to access my old data that way. WRONG!
    I discovered that all my backups from 2014 and 2013 were no longer listed and only my backups from 2012 were listed.
    When I've looked in that mobile app info on my pc no dates from 2013 and 2014 are listed. How do I find my backups that are no longer listed?
    all my accounting apps have been wiped clean and I'm freaking out since I run my own accounting for my small business through it.  I thought that I was safe because I've been backing up to my computer but now that info is no longer listed on itunes.
    any advice on how to recover info?
    I went to my recycling bin and found some of my apps in there and found the apps that were deleted on the day i backed up my files. Any advice on how to get that info back into my phone?

    Additional info:
    Tracks seem to be being corrupted on my G5, generally. If I play them in Quicktime they do the same thing; if I transfer them to the iPod they do the same thing.
    Yet they're all fine on the laptop.
    Maybe a hard drive problem?

  • Where can I find my backup photos?

    I want to find my photos backup file.
    I usually just copy and paste my photos to my computer.
    The itunes always backup, i can find the backup file but with no photos!
    Thanks

    The photos are blob objects in a SQLite database. You need a backup extractor application for your computer to retrieve them. Why don't you just copy the photos from your Camera Roll by using any photo management app on your computer, as described in the 3rd section here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4236

  • Where can I find my backups from Palm?

    I have to do a Hard Reboot to my Treo (palm software) and so I am trying to accomplish a good backup so that I can get all my third party software and information back.  (I am having trouble with my email software shutting my palm software down.)
    How do I know that I have a good backup and where on my computer can I find this??  I have 3 pieces of third party software (one for mileage and one for my lists and one for bible study) AND after we have completed this reboot, how can I reinstall my backup?  Will this bring my phone back with my software and information in that software??  I don't want to lose those 3 pieces software and/or information currently in those software pieces.
    Thank You in advance,
    Linda
    Post relates to: Treo 700p (Sprint)

    We have the software for you to download. The reason why I wanted to see if the data is on the device is it will make it much easier to move the data to the new Desktop. As for the name. As long as you saw this under hotsync on the Treo your perfectly fine.
    Now we need to remove as much as possible of the other version of Palm Desktop. If you have your backups located other than in Sony clie folders we are ready to do the next steps.
    Now I'm going to tell you where to go and what to delete. At some points it might sound vague. That is due to I do not know the Clie software that well and they modified it when they used the software from us. Also there is going to be a place on your computer call the Registry Editor. While in here only delete what is specified. If you do not see exactly that then do not delete. If you have any questions, post back and and ask away. I'm here to help you and get you where you need to be.
    Now the hard part,
    You should first make a copy of your data to have just in case something happens. This step you already done so we can go foward.
    Now you want to uninstall Palm Desktop and remove everything that has to do with Palm Desktop from your computer. Next I would like you to delete the Sony Clie folder that has Palm Desktop in it. Nothing else just that folder. Should be under C:\Program Files\Sony or C:\Sony\Handheld... If you do not know what to delete then do not worry about this. One this is done you will need to delete some registry keys from your registry.
    Word of warning, going here and deleting the wrong thing can cause your PC from starting up, crashing and deletion of programs and data. If you feel you are unsure of your self see if you have a friend that can help you or a PC technician that you can pay to help you. This will show them everything they need to delete. To help against this we need to do a backup.
    Go to start and run type "regedit" without quotes
    Highlight MY COMPUTER, go to File --> export. Should pop up with a Save As box. Current location is fine should be in My Documents. In the file name on the bottom type "backup[todaysdate]" i.e. backup07072008. Next, the hard part.
    Easiest way to make sure your doing the right one highlight the key i.e. palm quick install, and press delete on your keyboard. It will ask you are you sure. Say yes. Do the same thing for all keys below.
    If you make a mistake, stop what you are doing. And call a PC technician. BUT do not turn off your computer.
    The reg keys are as follows (Note: some of theses reg keys will not be here but if they are delete them)
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics\Palm Quick Install
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics\PalmOne File Transfer
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics\Pilot Desktop
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Palm
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Palm, Inc.
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\PalmDesktopAutorun
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\palmOne
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\PalmSource
    * HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\PalmSource or anything else that says palm
    Next reboot your computer
    Then reinstall your palm desktop from the CD and do a hotsync. If it asks you for a username and you synced your device before, put in 'test" if you did not sync before create a hotsync name.

  • Major Blunder! Is there a folder where I can find another backup?

    In my haste to exit Pages, I stupidly said no to saving the document I was working on [it was an existing doc of another title and from another folder]. Now there is no backup of the new doc. I still have the original documents that I started from. Is there anywhere in my finder that I might be able to extract the lost document?
    Cheers

    No. Unfortunately.
    You are still using OSX 10.5.8? Lion offers some protection.

  • I recently used SuperDuper! to transfer my hard drive, setting etc to an SSD to replace in my MBP.  When I placed the SSD in and went to "About This Mac" I came upon this in the Storage section.  My question is where can I find my Backups and delete them?

    I recently used SuperDuper! to transfer my old MBP hard drive and its settings to a new SSD.  Everything went smoothly.  When I opened the "About this Mac" section and looked under Storage it showed this:
    Where are the "Backups" (purple) located? I want to delete these files to free up disk space on my new SSD.  Thanks in advance for all of your guys help!

    These are the "Local Snapshots" Time Machine makes when the actual Time Machine harddisk is not connected/avaiable.
