Where do I find my movie rental after it has been downloaded?
It should be in the Videos App under the appropriate category. In this case "Rentals"

Movies downloaded from iTunes will be in the default Videos App.
Rentals will appear in the Rentals tab there. -

Either in your Downloads folder or your Movies folder or if you installed sometype of software from Amazon to downkload and view these movies in a folder created by that software. So look in your Username folder, your Home Folder for it.

i rented a movie from the itunes store in hd and closed itunes on accident after letting it download and after reopening itunes i am un able find my movie rental. ive searched in my library, movies, etc. and i cannot find it anywhere. i did start it... but i have atleast another 20 hours to watch it before the rental expires.
Doublechecking. Did you download the rental in iTunes for Mac, iTunes for Windows, or an iOS device?

If you rented and downloaded it on your computer's iTunes then it should be in the Movies part of your library - is there a Rentals tab in Movies ?
If on an iPad, iPhone or iPod Touch then it should be in the Videos app. If you can't find it in there, nor via the device's spotlight search screen, then have you got a film age rating set in Settings > General > Restrictions that is hiding it ? -

i downloaded 2 movies to watch on flight, downloaded to computer. Now have iPad with me. I don't see the movies in library/anywhere in iTunes/cloud so tried to re-download, received message that I had already rented. where can I find the movies?
If you rented and downloaded them on your computer's iTunes then did you then connect the iPad to your computer and move them over to it ? If you did then they should be in the Videos app.
Rentals are a one-time only download so they won't appear in the cloud for re-downloading. -
I rented a movie on Itunes last night and I watched half of it before falling asleep. Today I tried to open the movie and watch the last half but I cannot find it. It has been less than 24 hours since I rented it. Where can I find the movie?

Had the same problem and spoke with Apple Support. They had me reset the System Management Controller:
Shut down the computer. With the computer off, on the left hand side of the keyboard press shift+control+option along with the power button simultaneously and release. Wait 5-10 seconds and restart the computer.
This solved my problem and I was immediately able to purchase, download, and play an HD movie from iTunes w/o any error message. -

You don't.
You buy one and only one download of movies. It is your responsibility to back up your purchases.

They would only be stored in your backup. If they didn't restore properly all you can do is try restoring the backup again.

As long as it's been fully downloaded then you shouldn't need to be online in order to watch it.
As to how long you have to watch it, from here :
You have 30 days from the time of rental to watch your movie, and 24 hours (in the US) or 48 hours (elsewhere) after you've started viewing to finish it. Once the rental period expires, the movie will disappear from your iTunes library. -
