Where do i find 'storage' on snow leopard ?

Hi.
I'd like to upgrade to Mavericks but not sure how much GB I need from my Internet Provider.
When I tried to download Mavericks, I went way over my monthly allowance and my usage bill doubled !
I now have an icon on my desktop inviting me to install Mavericks, but I'm too scared to go ahead with it.
I also don't know where to find "storage" on my Mac. It's not in the 'About This Mac' window...
As you can see I'm not terribly technical and would find simple instructions the easiest to follow.
Thank you all so much for any forthcoming help !

Buy an iWork 09 DVD from a source such as Amazon or eBay. If you previously bought a version of Pages compatible with 10.6.8 from the Mac App Store, go to the Mac App Store main page, click on Support under Quick Links, contact Apple, and see what they say.

  • Where can I find the free Snow Leopard upgrade for Mobile Me customers?

I stopped by my local Apple Store yesterday and asked about purchasing Snow Leopard for my macbook.  I am a mobile me subscriber and I was told that there is a free upgrade available on apple.com.  I have searched, but cannot find the form to fill out to receive my disk.  Anyone know where I can find the application?
    Thanks!

Sorry, but that offer expired already. Mobile Me has shut down. You can still purchase Snow Leopard from Apple's Online Store - $29.00.

  • Where can I download xcode for snow leopard?

Where can I download xcode for snow leopard?

I am a paid member of the developer program, and Xcode 4.2 for Snow Leopard does not appear in the downloads area. I just joined today and received email confirmation, but perhaps this update to my account has not worked its way through to Apple's back-end yet. Nevertheless, it appears that Xcode 4.2 for Snow Leopard is not available any more to anyone, whether they are paid members or not.

  • How do I upgrade my iCloud storage on Snow Leopard?

    Hi,
I'm still running Snow Leopard on my old Mac Pro due to certain programs that won't run on Lion or Mountain Lion.  I had a Mobile Me account, and then it switched to an iCloud account automatically.  I just got an email saying:
As a thank you for being a former MobileMe member, you received a 20 GB complimentary storage upgrade when you moved to iCloud. Your upgrade expires on September 30, 2013.
When it expires, your iCloud storage will be automatically adjusted to the free 5 GB plan. Note that you are currently using 7.99 GB of storage. If you exceed your storage plan on September 30, 2013, iCloud Backup, Documents in the Cloud, and iCloud Mail will temporarily stop working.
To continue using these iCloud features without interruption, reduce the amount of iCloud storage you are using or purchase a storage plan by September 30, 2013.
My problem is I would like to keep 20 GB of storage, but after going through Apple's support, and iCloud, found that there's no way for me to upgrade my storage since I don't run Lion or Mountain Lion on this computer (to upgrade, it says to go to System Preferences, couldn't find anything on the iCloud website).  All of my storage is from Mail, and I would like to keep the storage there.  Is there any way to upgrade my storage without switching to Lion or Mountain Lion? I don't want to lose this email account.

I have the exact same situation as you mattiger18.  I cannot install Lion or I will disrupt programs that I run on Snow Leopard that are critical for my work.  Apple is not providing a solution for us.  Last time they migrated from Mobile Me to iCloud they lost months of emails and had emails bouncing to my accounts.  They destroyed 8 weeks of my business.  They have done it again.  They have already lost several months of my emails and they are bouncing my business email.  It's outrageous!
I spent thousands of $ on my software and I have no intention of installing Lion or other OS iterations.  It is bad enough that Apple's service patches are crippling some of my applications.  My biggest regret was not altogether getting off of iCloud and setting up all my business email on other email servers like gmail, etc.  It is so outrageous what Apple is doing it is beyond words.  They are supremely greedy and totally uncaring for their customers.

  • Renaming a file in Finder changed with Snow Leopard somehow?

I've used an AppleScript for ages to:
    1. choose a file (a screenshot)
    2. prompt for a new name
    3. File is renamed by Finder with new name
    4. compose a command to copy it to another server
It seems Finder is not updating the "alias" to the file since I upgraded to Snow Leopard; this very code has worked for the last few versions of OS X:
set screencap to (choose file with prompt "Choose the screen shot: ")
display dialog "Enter new file name: " default answer "foo"
set newname to (the text returned of result as string)
set newnamepng to (newname as string) & ".png"
    log "newname is " & newname & " newnamepng is " & newnamepng
log "screencap is " & screencap
    tell application "Finder"
set the name of screencap to (newnamepng as string)
    end tell
log "the name of screencap is now: " & screencap
set posixscreencap to the POSIX path of screencap
set scpcmd to "scp " & posixscreencap
    log scpcmd
Here's what happens when I run it:
    tell application "AppleScript Editor"
choose file with prompt "Choose the screen shot: "
    --> alias "Einny:Users:swain:Desktop:Screen shot 2010-09-13 at 2.06.44 PM.png"
display dialog "Enter new file name: " default answer "foo"
    --> {text returned:"newnameforscreenshot", button returned:"OK"}
    end tell
(*newname is newnameforscreenshot newnamepng is newnameforscreenshot.png*)
    (*screencap is Einny:Users:swain:Desktop:Screen shot 2010-09-13 at 2.06.44 PM.png*)
    tell application "Finder"
    set name of alias "Einny:Users:swain:Desktop:Screen shot 2010-09-13 at 2.06.44 PM.png" to "newnameforscreenshot.png"
    --> "newnameforscreenshot.png"
    end tell
(*the name of screencap is now: Einny:Users:swain:Desktop:Screen shot 2010-09-13 at 2.06.44 PM.png*)
    (*scp /Users/swain/Desktop/Screen shot 2010-09-13 at 2.06.44 PM.png*)
For some reason the file alias "screencap" does not get a new name. Any suggestions?

When I run your script, the file name does get changed, it is just that the Finder is not keeping up with the script. There are a few fixes:
    1) add a short delay after the rename (delay 1 seems to be enough)
    2) use *System Events* instead of the Finder
    3) add an update command after setting the name in your FInder tell statement (e.g. update screencap)
Note that an alias will still point to the same file item (even if it does have a different name), but the POSIX path of the alias object does need to be updated before you can use that.

  • Finder function in Snow Leopard

I upgraded to Snow Leopard about a week ago. Yesterday, I opened a finder window and the window and all my desktop icons (including the HD) started blinking rapidly and didn't stop until I quit the finder. It happened again today at start up as I apparently forgot to close a finder window before shutting down yesterday. Any ideas how to make this stop? Is this some kind of preferences problem?

I'd go one step further and make a backup - and probably not over your older backups that may be okay and safe.
Yes, excellent point... I should have mentioned that! If you don't have backups, that should be the top priority.
Lastly, go back to Leopard and research and wait.
Good as a last resort, but to Sox Fan: don't get the impression that this means there's something wrong with Snow Leopard. If you aren't using incompatible software or hardware, there's no reason for Snow Leopard not to work well for you.

  • Using v10.5.8 Where can I get v10.6 Snow Leopard?

I'm currently using Mac OSX 10.5.8 and want to upgrdae to Mountain Lion but need Snow leopard first.
Can anyone tell me where I can get Snow leopard from?

Before you buy anything, first make sure your Mac is compatible.
Minimum specs for Snow Leopard.  Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard -          Read the Technical Specifications
Once you've upgraded you will need to apply the Combo updater for Snow Leopard.          Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1
Remember to repair permissions both before and after each upgrade /update
You can no longer buy Snow Leopard from Apple retail, only as follows.  If you are in North America ...
Buying Snow leopard from Apple.        Last I read, you must call them (1-800-MY-APPLE). It is $29 plus tax for family pack and $19 plus tax for a single.
Based in Europe or otherwise call your National Apple Helpline … http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57
You should also check the minimum specs for Mountain Lion. Apple - OS X Mountain Lion          Read the technical specifications.

  • Use finder like in Snow Leopard

When I was looking for a file in Snow Leopard usually it was enough that I can put the name I have chosen to find it, for example Pitbull and alll the file appeared in the folder with the all name as 14 - Pitbull - Timber.now the only thing I see is Timber but for me it isn't right, sometimes I put the name in the search but it can't find all the file like it used to,the tags doesn't work well for me!! There is a  way to come back at the old search?

Mavericks hasn't changed much in this regard. Spotlight should work in exactly the same way (with a few improvements in search criteria).
It sounds like you just need to reindex Spotlight. There are lots of webpages that will show you how to do this:
Th easiest way is: go to System Preferences > Spotlight, and add your main disk to the Privacy pane, and then remove it.
You mention Tags, but I'm not sure why. If this doesn't fic your problem, please describe how Tags are involved in greater detail.

  • Mouse and Finder problems with Snow Leopard

Since upgrading to Snow Leopard I have a weird problem, after a time the mouse will start skipping and the finder becomes very slow to respond, whether it a program is calling up a dialog box, or I go to the apple menu to select "system preferences" or I double click on a HD, it is slooooooow.
Funny thing is that after a reboot, all is well until it isn't, and it progresses, the mouse will skip a bit then more then the finder gets slow and then slower etc... there is no consistency to the duration of onset of problems, and it doesn't matter if I open no programs or 6.
Also, I have removed all preference panes that aren't Apple's and rebuilt the permissions and did a couple of FSCKs (disk appeared to be fine in all cases) I have over 40% free on my start up drive and as you can see below I have 10gigs of ram.
any help would be greatly appreciated.

looking at the system.log in the profiler now, there is a problem, a version of snapz pro and eyeTV (the latter I had sussed out from the console application, odd that the system.log in the profiler didn't mention eyeconnect and the console didn't mention snapz)... I just upgraded both to the latest versions that are supposed to be snow compliant, but only time will tell if this fixed the problem.
    thanks

  • Finder Share Screen Snow Leopard to Leopard Not Working

Trying to use Share Screen from my new Snow Leopard install to a Leopard machine but only getting a black screen. Have rebooted both machines but still get the same result.

    HI,
Must be the heat wave Do this on the Mac running Snow Leopard.
    Try deleting this file.
    com.apple.ScreenSharing.plist
    /Users/YourName/Library/Preferences.
Drag that file from the Preferences folder to the Trash, empty the Trash and restart both Macs.
I'm sure you have File Sharing turned on in System Preferences/Sharing on the SL Mac and Personal File Sharing on the Leopard Mac ??
Sometimes after you do the setup, it helps to restart both machines...
If you haven't done so since upgrading to SL, repair disk permissions on the Mac running SL.
Quit any open applications/programs. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.

  • I have upgraded to 10.6.8 on my macbook pro and find I don't have pages.  Pages in app store is for 10.10 only.  How can I access all my pages files in Snow Leopard?

I have upgraded to 10.6.8 Snow Leopard from Leopard on my macbook pro and now cannot read and write pages.  Pages in app store is for 10.10 and above.  I don't have a pages application. Where can I get pages for snow leopard?

It's been so long since I bought my macbook pro in August of 2010, but I do remember the iwork disk that had pages, numbers, and keynote on it, but I can't find the disk in my closet.  I did not realize that when I took my computer in to the genius bar to upgrade to Snow Leopard, and then to download Yosemite, that I would lose these applications.  I had no reason to open pages when I emptied my hard drive to upgrade to Snow Leopard, so I don't know if I kept iwork when I upgraded to Snow Leopard at the Genius Bar.  I had file vault on with my external drive on, and since removed it before the upgrade, but now all my documents are unable to open on my external drive.  ****.  So now the new problem is how do I undo file vault in a new OS 10.10 when encoded in 6.8?  Can I take my external drive in to Genius Bar?
I bought my macbook pro at Best Buy, but can't remember if iwork came with this computer, or with an older mac I bought.  Can anyone check to see if I have a valid key code, and will insertion of an iwork disc allow me to use pages with Yosmite?

  • How/Where to download Snow Leopard?

I apologize if this has been asked before.
I'm trying to upgrade from OS X 10.5.8 (Leopard) to OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard). I've been putting it off for a long time, and I know my computer can handle at least as high as OS X 10.7 (Lion). But where do I go to download Snow Leopard? The physical copies of it seem to be in short supply (although earlier this year they still seemed to be relatively easy to find). I've searched the Apple Store and the support section, and I can't find a direct download. If someone could point me in the right direction I'd be a very happy man.
    Thanks in advance.

Phone the Apple Store and order a DVD of it.

  • HT3258 where can I buy/ download Snow Leopard OS for my Macbook Pro so I can run PowerPC?

    I need help.
where can I get/ buy/ download snow leopard os so I can run PowerPC..

If you are outside of the USA & Canada, the Apple Store will not ship you Snow Leopard Server.  You must have someone in the USA or Canada purchase it for you and then trans-ship it to you, which, of course, will increase the shipping costs.
Snow Leopard Server for $19.99 + sales tax & shipping costs at 1.800.MYAPPLE (1.800.692.7753) - Apple Part Number: MC588Z/A (telephone orders only).
Another alternative is to purchase Snow Leopard client and install that into Parallels 8:
    http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1365439
This will give you an environment where you can run your PowerPC CDs.
