Where do I find upgrades for my imac G4, 800 mhz for OSX?

I have an IMAC G4 that is currently running OS X 10.2.8
I need to upgrade my safari since it mis-reads some pages when using this IMAC. But I can't upgrade safari unless I can upgrade the OS X.
I can find upgrades for 10.3.9 but can't install without upgrading to 10.3.
No where on the apple website is there an upgrade to bring my 10.2.8 into the 10.3. Was this a major upgrade that required a purchase?
My other mac is an ibook, running 10.3.9. Ideas on how I can find this other upgrade for my imac?

Hello Kathy:
OS X 10.2.8 is the last one in that release.
"No where on the apple website is there an upgrade to bring my 10.2.8 into the 10.3. Was this a major upgrade that required a purchase?"
The answer to this question is yes OS X 10.3 is a new release of OS X.
If you are considering upgrading, I would consider OS X 10.4 The new Safari (2.0.1) is faster and has an RSS reader. You can go directly from where you are (10.2.8) to Tiger (OS X 10.4). I would suggest an archive and install if you decide to proceed:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107120.
Your iBook no doubt came with 10.3 installed. In addition to being illegal (according to the license agreement) your iBook install software would probably not work on your iMac. If you wish to get OS X 10.4, purchase a 'family' license. In that way, you may legally install on up to five computers in your household.

I know the above address you offered but those are

As an Oracle trainer, I consider the OBEs to be very important. I doubt that Oracle will get rid of them.
However, it takes time to make them. I suspect that they are created when a new feature needs to be demonstrated and the product management has the resources available.
I just wish they would make the original set from Oracle8i available. They provided some very important basics which have long since hit the archive pile.
I'm sure that some of the ACEs would be happy to upgrade them to Oracle10g/11g level. I know I would be willing to contribute to that effort.

See for yourself which version of ACR is needed for that camera’s RAW files
    http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html
then check your version (Photoshop > About Plug-In > Camera Raw).
Your version of Photoshop does not support that version of ACR.
You could use the free DNG Converter.

The ActiveXViewer is not downloadable from our SAP site. The file is hosted on your web server, and also installed on the system where you have Crystal Reports XI installed.
Look here, C:Program FilesBusiness ObjectsCommon3.0crystalreportviewers11ActiveXControls for ActiveXViewer.cab. Extract the contents and right click crviewer.inf, then select Install.

Where can I find a useful "user guide" I can print for an ipad2

Be green and don't print!  The iPad user's guide is in the bookmarks section of Safari.  But, because you'll be reading it in Safari, you have to be in a wifi area or using the 3G network.  However, you can download the .pdf and open it in the free iBooks reader.  Then you have it with you wherever you go and don't have to be on the internet to read it.

Where can I find which credit card I have on file for iTunes?

On your computer's iTunes you should be able to see your payment info by going into the Store > View My Account (Store > View My Apple ID on iTunes 11) menu option and logging into it.  If you are doing it on an iOS device (iPad, iPhone or iPod Touch) then try tapping on your id in Settings > Store (Settings > iTunes & App Stores on iOS 6) and selecting 'View Apple ID' on the popup.

  • IMac G4 800 mhz internet access via LAN very slow

We have a G4 800mhz running 10.3. Memory is 768K. The only use for this machine is as a music server. It is connected to the internet via LAN; internet access is extremely slow - pages take an incredibly long time to load. Download/Upload speeds are about the same as I see on my Macbook Pro so I don't think it is the connected to the internet. Is there anything one can do to troubleshoot very laggy browser performance?

You may need to turn to Activity Monitor (or "AM") in Applications > Utilities to see if a runaway background process is eating up processor cycles. If you've not run AM before, on first launch its "Show" window defaults to "My Processes." That will tell only part of the story. Change it to "All Processes"to get the full picture.
Now highlight the "%CPU" column to sort by processor usage. Best to check with no user apps running other than AM. Let AM percolate five to ten seconds to let it finish its first poll. What you are looking for are any processes that are using 15 percent or more of "%CPU" with nothing running other than AM. If you find one, post its name here and we can advise how to deal with it.
However, don't get your expectations too high that a process has gone rogue. Part of it is simply a lack of speed by today's standards. I recently upgraded a friends iMac G4 800 from Panther to Tiger so it could run the latest browsers and it was still terribly slow compared to my PowerBook G4 1Ghz running the same level OS. The iMac 800 has a slow logic board bus (100mHz).

  • Is it possible to swap out an imac g4 (800 mhz) motherboard with a mac mini

recently i found an old imac G4 (800 mhz) and i brought it back to its former glory, however ive noticed its preformance to be laggy and inefficent, so ive been considering getting a mac mini. but i dont want to leave the design of the imac G4, so is it possible to take out the imacs motherboard and such and make it a moniter to use in a mac mini?

No.  The heat and cooling mechanisms are different.
But you can use a Mac Mini temporarily in Target Disk Mode for extra storage, as long as you don't setup the extra storage to try to boot the Mac Mini.  Partitions allow you to select what you will boot on a Mac, if you have the right machines.  Note, new Mac Minis are formatted differently than the iMac G4 can support for reading.   An older Mac Mini G4 could double as external storage for the iMac G4 via Target Disk Mode.  Target Disk Mode does not transfer the processing power of the other machine, it merely makes the storage available.  And also the optical drive.

  • IPod Touch 32 GB and iMac G4 800 Mhz

Will an iPod Touch successfully connect and function properly with an iMac G4 800 Mhz. I need it to work with no problem. I know it requires a USB 2.0, but it only has 1.0 or 1.1 I believe. Thanks! Please only post with experience regarding this configuration. I already know the..."Well, yeah it will connect and run a little slower". I know this, but is it damaging the either unit???

You are correct, it will run slower, but also be advised if you have a lot of music you will have to sync it a little at a time, and if you update it, and it is a large update (say like the upcoming version 2.0) it will probably not update on your machine. Same problem with both; the USB chain will timeout.

    (1) Check any webcam's specs for compatibility with the minimum requirements for system hardware, Mac OS, and the applications software you intend to use to operate your webcam. Failure to meet the minimum requirements for any system element can keep your camera from working.
    (2) External iSight is a great camera, but they are getting old as electronics go, and you have no idea how the one you buy now has been used or treated by its previous owner(s).
I suggest that you buy locally and test any external iSight you are considering on your Macbefore you pay for it. That way you know whether it will work before you buy, and a local seller may be able to answer questions, if any, about connecting and using iSight. If you need help with how to make sure an external iSight works, see "How to test your iSight to ensure it is functional":
      http://www.ralphjohns.co.uk/EZJim/EZJimpage4.html
If you consider buying an external iSight sight-unseen, I strongly suggest that you (try to) get a written guarantee that you can have the iSight examined by your Apple Authorized Service Provider and can have a refund or exchange if the iSight doesn't pass his checks.
Even *if the external iSight you are considering is advertised as an NOS* (new, old-stock) iSight, it may not be covered by Apple Warranty. If the seller is not providing you service guarantees or warranty, you may be want to check Apple's iSight Service: Frequently Asked Questions, especially if you cannot test the iSight before you buy to be sure it is working.
    (3) If you want to consider Firewire webcams, there are a still some new Firewire cams available:
    • other unibrain Firewire (IEEE-1394) cameras: http://www.unibrain.com/
    • iSweet may still be available: http://www.welovemacs.com/isweet1.html (page down)
Be sure to ask vendor about system requirements mentioned above.  To avoid disappointment, also check whether the device comes with connecting cables and has an integrated microphone.
    (4) The full range of camera alternatives is discussed in this Discussions User Tip:
      http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2018211
If your G4 has room, you may want to consider adding a USB 2.0 card to your G4 Tower so you have the option to consider the new UVC webcams that require USB 2.0. When connected via USB 2.0, UVC cams can work with Mac OS X later than 10.4.8 without additional driver software.
    Mac Pro Quad Core (Early 2009) 2.93Ghz Mac OS X (10.6.4); MacBook Pro (13 inch, Mid 2009) 2.26GHz (10.6.4)
LED Cinema Display; G4 PowerBook 1.67GHz (10.4.11); iBookSE 366MHz (10.3.9); External iSight; iPod touch 4.1

  • Where do I find a qualified PhotoShop Plug-in filter developer for a freelance project?

I need to hire a programmer (freelance) to develop a PhotoShop plug-in filter. I'm in the SF Bay area, but unfamiliar with the industry. I know I need someone skilled in C++, algorithms, PhotoShop SDK and Mac platform. I just don't know where I should be looking to find a qualified person or company.
A web search for PhotoShop programmer doesn't bring up what I need. A Craigslist search under Computers didn't come up with anyone with PhotoShop Plug-in experience. Sites like Freelance.com, GetACoder.com, etc., provide few responses and all are "off-shore".
Where should I search for a programmer (Preferably Bay Area) for my project?

    Maybe I can assist you,
    Leave email address or something.

  • Where do I find the "Puzzle Piece" icon in garage band for Ipad 2?

I Recently downloaded the "Garage Band" app for my Ipad 2. I began a new song, with two sections - section A and section b. Every time I try and play the song, it only plays one section, depending on which one I scrole to.
I Looked up this problem on the internet and saw that someone had a similar problem. I eventually found instruction to click on the "Puzzle Piece" icon in Garage Band and that there would be instruction to do so from that icon. Problem is, I cannot find the icon in this app, any where.
Can anyone describe where I can find this "Puzzle Piece" icon, either with words or a screen shot Of the app?  Thanks!

Tap the "+" icon (the song section button) at the topRight of the timeline;  then tap "All Sections".

  • What Speed Memory for a 3.06 Ghz 24" iMac?  800 Mhz or 1.066 Ghz?

What speed memory should I have in my iMac 24" 3.06 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo?
It seems to have come with 800 Mhz memory, but the Bus Speed is 1.07 Ghz.
Shouldn't it be able to use 1.066 Ghz memory??? Or is it not really up to 1.07 Ghz? The serial number is: QP8390YD0KM.
    Thanks, Jim.

Some of the previous iMac models had bus speeds that did not match the RAM speed, by design.
You should use this OWC web store page.
    http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/apple/memory/iMac
Just click on your specific iMac model and read the specs on one of the compatible RAM modules.
You can also find your iMac model here

    and read the profile page.

  • Imac G4 800 MHZ Hard Drive

I'm looking to upgrade my HD to 500gb+. I read somewhere that there is a way to make the computer recognize all of the available space, instead of capping at 250gb. Is there a way to put a 500gb+ hd in a imac g4 800MHZ? Thanks

Some of the older computers can see or use larger disk drive
sizes; support in some was limited officially yet some users
have found their machines could support larger than the early
limits of 128GB in the iMac G4 700/800 computer. The later
iMac G4 800 officially supported larger drive capacities; yet
some brands of hard disk drives may have their own issues.
A helpful downloadable free database for general specifications
can be obtained from http://mactracker.ca - and it is advised.
Partitioning schemes help allow use of larger and otherwise
not supported capacities of hard disk drives in these machines
since that lets you install a system on a supported size section
and the other sections can be used for other systems, or other
applications; or storage. Boot volumes, including OS9 support
may require keeping to appropriate formatting and installation
of additional drivers early in the process of pre-OS preparation.
There may be additional advantages to having a partitioned
HDD within a computer capable of supporting only one hard
disk drive; since some utilities can be run from a booted section
and repair another one on the same drive, for example.
{Issues and other answers apply when putting an iTunes library
or iPhoto library on another partition or other drive, one that is
    not the boot drive readily accessible to the applications directly.}
    In any event...
    Good luck & happy computing!
