  • How do i get airport utility to recognize airport express?

Airport express does not show up on my list of devices when I start up Airport Utility.  I'd love to use express with my stereo, but I cannot.

If that AirPort Express hasn't been configured, there are two ways to get AirPort Utility to "see" it:  (1) Connect an Ethernet cable between the Express and your Mac.  This works best if you don't need the Ethernet of the Express to connect to another router.  (2) Use the AirPort/WiFi menu bar item to look for a network named in the form "Apple Network xxxxxx".  That's the temporary network that the Express is creating.  If you select that network, AirPort Utility should list the Express.  Once you've configured the Express and restarted it, you'll have to reselect the appropriate wireless network.

Temporarily connecting your AirPort Express to one of the Time Capsule's Etherent LAN <-> ports...as LaPastenagure suggests....is always a good way to setup and configure other network devices.
If you want to configure the Express using wireless, remember that the Express broadcasts a default wireless signal with a name like Apple Network xxxxxx. You must log on to this network first....no password is required....then open AirPort Utility to "see" the AirPort Express.

  • Where do you get more utility boxes like this?

Where do you get thses utility boxes like in this pic?

The short answer is that you create them yourself. Tap and hold an app icon until it starts to jiggle. Tap and hold on one of the app icons that you want to put into a folder and drag it onto the icon of another. This will create a folder containing those two apps. The phone guesses at a name but you can change that. You can then drag more apps in.

  • TS4597 AirPort base station not seen or "An unexpected error occurred" appears in AirPort Utility 6.3 - It did the above steps and cannot get airport utility to allow access to the Airport extreme in order to reconfigure please help

I tried following the article's instructions by going into System Preferences / Network and changing the configure ipv6 tab to Link local only and I STILL am getting the same error. Can someone please advise how to get this ariport extreme back online and configured

I'm in a frustrating predicament with this error, so if folks have any suggestions, that would be greatly appreciated...
A few days ago my internet stopped working as best i know out of the blue (3rd gen Airport Extreme with a couple iPhones, iPad, Apple TV's, Mac's (one with Mavericks) on it).  In trying to fix it, I powered down everything and reset the router.  When the router is initializing (seen through the Airport utility), the internet starts working again on the Mac in which I'm running the Airport utility. (a browser in background loads a previously unloadable webpage).  I'm then left with a screen where the Airport utility is waiting for me to enter set-up info:
If I leave the Airport Utility in this state and don't hit next, my internet works fine on my Mac.  If I set-up this info, however, my internet no longer works (in Airport Utility the Internet globe has a orange circle saying internet disconnected) and I get a screen saying "An unexpected error occured.  Try again."  I've tried toggling a number of router settings, restarting the router, but nothing seems to fix it.
I've taken the router to Apple, where they were able to create a network fine with the router.  I also bought a new AE router, and tried an old AE express router, but all attempts get the same error.  I've also tried using the iOS Airport utility, but that doesn't seem to help.  I've tried the older version (5.6) of Airport Utility run on a non-Mavericks Mac, but that didn't help.
I had a ISP technician come out, but they basically said the plug (we don't have a modem, but just a ethernet plug in our apartment)  in which you're getting the internet from us is working, and it's your router.  They're diagnostics said the router is 'throwing off a bunch of errors.'  That being said, they've confirmed the setting on the AE are okay (as far as they know...).
Any thoughts here?  I'm not especially network-proficient, but searching around has pointed me to potential issues with mavericks, IPv6, and the latest version of the Airport Utility.
    I'm desperate - please help!
    Much thanks in advance.

  • How do I get airport utility to recognise my wdstorage

I have a 1TB my book (WD storage) external hard drive - my iMac can see it and access it on the network but I can't figure out how to get it picked up by airport utility to allow me to set up time capsule back up.

Actually a apple time capsule is a broadband, DSL or Cable, wireless router with a built in hard drive and at least the router and wifi ap sections are configured by the apple airport utility. I don't own one but here is a link to the product.
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MD033LL/A/time-capsule-3tb
And a image of the back of it.

Since you are asking about a WD external hard drive, I think you meant to ask about Time Machine, not Time Capsule.   Time Machine is backup software that will work with many kinds of drives.  Time Capsule is an Apple hardware product (it's basically an Airport Extreme with an embedded hard drive).
When you first connected to the WD drive to your Mac (regardless of how connected), you should have been prompted about whether or not you wanted to use the WD drive for Time Machine.  If you didn't get such a message (or if you said NO), open the Time Machine application (in your Applications folder) and after it opens, click Set Up Time Machine.
If you have multiple Macs on your network, and you want to use the WD drive with more than one Mac, ethernet connection is preferable.

  • How do I get Airport Utility to recognise my TimeCapsule when I first connect it?

I have followed the instructions in the setup guide and on the apple website but still my Time Capsule just flashes amber.  When I press 'rescan' in Airport Utility, it says it is unable to locate any wireless devices.
I have connected my ethernet cable from my wireless modem/router to my time capsule and plugged the time capsule in to the power.  Before connecting it to the time capsule, the ethernet cable connected my wireless modem/router to my iMac.  Now there is nothing connecting my iMac to my modem/router.
I am thinking maybe there is something not set up correctly with the Airport and wireless settings on my iMac but I don't know what they would be.  When I got it, I just plugged my modem into the back with the ethernet cable and it worked.  I also have a laptop that I connect wirelessly to the modem.
I have AppleCare for my iMac but I don't think it covers extra hardware like the Time Capsule.  I bought the Time Capsule in August last year from JbHifi so I don't know if I can take it to an Apple store and get them to help me.  Since August last year I have not been able to make it work or connect to my iMac.
    Please help!!!

run another ethernet cable from one of the TC's LAN port's () to your iMac. that should enable airport utility to see the device.
besides, you should really make your initial time machine backup using a hardwired connection. subsequent backups are incremental and can be done over wifi.

  • I have an old Airport Express. How do I get Airport Utility to recognise it?

I have an OLd style Airport Express that I was using with my 2007 iMac and Tiger. Recent upgrade to Mountain Lion.
How do I get the Airport Utility to recognise it so I can set extra stuff?

Here are the AirPort Utility downloads:
    http://support.apple.com/downloads/#airport
Bottom line: I don't believe it's possible to use your old AirPort Express with Mountain Lion.  The current AirPort Utility is 6.3.1.
I'm assuming you have this one (from around 2004):
    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP76
If instead you have this one (from arount 2008):
    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP1
... then AirPort Utility may well support your device.

  • Cannot get airport utility to update

Today I purchased Airport Extreme to replace my router which died. I am on a PC with Windows 7 Ultimate. I downloaded Airport Utility 5.5.3 and it saying I need an update to 5.6.1. OK, so I click update and it closes the program and then nothing. Is it updating? How do I tell if it is updating? Now on to another problem (and maybe this is connected to the first problem), I could not get the utility to recognize the Airport Extreme so I went back to Best Buy with the intention of returning the product only to find I could set it up with my iPhone. OK, I have it set up, but now I want to change the name of the network which can only be done with the Airport Utility which does not recognize my router. It's Catch 22!!! Thank for any help.

This is a Lion issue....AirPort Utility 6.0 is now part of the operating system.....that has been discussed in a number of threads in the OS X Lion support area. Suggest that try over there.
I have not checked recently, but the "fix" mentioned in a number of thrreads (suggested by Apple) was to re-install Lion again. Things may have changed, so you would want to get full details and probably work with Apple directly on this.

  • Cannot Get AirPort Utility to Update/Work

I cannot get the AirPort Utility Version 6.0 to update on my machine. Worse, I can't get the AirPort Utility to work at all now because of the failed update. Any advice on how to fix the problem? I've tried to install the earlier update (5.6) but that doesn't work either...

  • Lost software, where can I get Airport express software?

I have lost my software for airport express and need to reinstall it. Where can I get it?

    have you tried here ?

  • How to get Airport Utility display name of connected devices ?

    Hello,
I would like to see what devices are connected on my Time Capsule.
    Usually, Airport Utility  shows:
    - MAC address, IP address and client ID in DHCP tab
    - MAC address in wireless client tab with signal level plotted on graphic
So, it's a little awkward, but you can assume that:
    - wired devices are connected if they show in DHCP tab
    - wireless devices are connected if they show in Wireless client tab. Then you can assume what wireless device it is, using the MAC address as identifier and reading client ID
Usually client ID are plain readable, like "iPhone Bob", "Mac of Sarah", etc...
Sometimes there is a third party manufacturer cryptic info.
Sometimes there is nothing. For example with my Canon printer
With time, i've learned to know what MAC address my devices are, and consigned them in a list; but i found it painful to go to my list of devices and retrieve them with their MAC adresses. I would like airport utility to make this association, like they do for apple devices
    So my question is:
Is there any file that i can edit to associate the Mac address of the device with the name i want ?
I suppose there might be some hosts file somewhere ?
    thanks

I've found an xml config file in ~/library/application Support/Apple/Airport/
    There is a
                                                      <key>hostname</key>
                                                      <string>Canon Printer</string>
missing, that I have added. Now all DHCP devices have disappeared in Airport utility (but are still connected); i guess they will reappear once the dhcp bail has been renewed, (in one day) but that won't change anything, as this xml file is likely an output, not an input.
    I'll keep you posted

  • HT1218 How do I get Airport Utility (6.3.2) to see my Apple Extreme ("g"; firmware 5.7)?

Airport Utility (6.3.2) running OS10 (10.9.2) does not support my Apple Extreme ("g"; firmware 5.7) therefore cannot update firmware.  How do I fix it?

You might want to let Apple know.

Not that it is relevent here, but Windows cannot be used to configure the newer AirPort and Time Capsule.

  • How do I get  Airport Utility to find my TC that is MIA for wireless?

I have an Air and had wireless no problem for a month via TC. Last night TC started blinking amber and TC is not found by Airport Utility for me to troubleshoot. I've done all the disconnecting and connecting to no avail. Called ISP, which is working via ethernet connection to Windows desktop, and they say router is not connected to modem. But it was for a month and nothing was changed. The only thing I did last night was to check and make sure TC was being used as my default backup (after reading the Guide), so could I have done something then?

    Terri,
I know you may have tried some of these before, but note the exact steps below...
*_Time Capsule Has Disappeared From Airport Utility / Amber Light_*
*Reboot ISPs’ Modem & Time Capsule*
If you are using the Time Capsule as your only router then power down your ISPs modem.
Unplug the TC from the wall outlet.
    Wait 10-15 seconds.
Next turn your modem back on first. Let it initialize and acquire an IP address (about 30-60 seconds).
    Re-plug in the TC again.
After it has restarted (30-60 seconds), does it show up in Airport Utilities?
If not try "Rescan" from the File Menu.
If the above doesn't work, then…
    *Cycle Airport Preferences*
    Open Network Preferences.
Click “Turn Airport Off”, wait 10 seconds.
Now click “Turn Airport On”. Close Prefs.
Does it now show up in Airport Utilities?.
If not go to the “File” menu and select “Rescan”.
    Does it appears now?.
If not, unplug the TC, wait 10 seconds, and plug it back in.
Does the TC show up now in Airport Utility?
If the above doesn't work, then…
    *Hard Reset*
Take a look at this KB article. It will explain how to reset the TC:
Make sure you hold in the reset button for at least a good 10 seconds.
Then you should be able to see it. Now follow this KB article to set it up again:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1178
Let us know if this helps resolve your connection issue.
    Cheers!
