Where do I get new Hard Drive???

I currently have 160gb but would like to upgrade, I have read my system can only handle up to 500gb. I can not seem to find anywhere to buy it so that I can add it myself? is ultimately the price will be the determining factor
What is the story with external hard drives? pro's and con's?
This is my first posting, am new to mac's but LOVING them! :):)
Thanks for any help in advance

  • Hp 6310y can't get new hard drive to load windows 7

    model 6310y -- Windows 7 home premium 64 bit
My desktop PC stopped working.  I took it to local computer store and they said it was HD.  I bought new hard drive and tried to install retail Windows 7 home premium 64 bit OS.  I got an error message Code 0x80070002.
I called HP support....they told me I needed their brand of recovery discs because the motherboard or BIOS wouldn't allow me to install Windows 7 on the new replacement HD w/o it being their (HP) discs.  So I ordered them...$17
I bought another new HD and tried to install Windows 7 OS with the HP recovery discs.  This time got Error Code 0xe0ef000e.
I should mention both times trying to install OS on new replacement HD...it got approx 8 to 12 minutes into installation before getting error messages.
I called HP support....this time was told that the retail version of Windows 7 OS should have worked and that I didn't need the HP brand recovery discs when installing new replacement HD.   They offered me to pay $199 and send them my desktop to fix it....all inclusive fix.
Very confused.  I have never encountered anything like this before...I've had mulitple hard drives die over the years and have replaced them myself and installed all the software including OS myself w/o any problems like this.
Memory checked out ok when utilizing the diagnostics f9 key .... it did show problems with HD during one of my many diagnostic attempts
Not sure if its a bad motherboard or built in video card ..... not sure how to find out either....since I can't get the PC up and running
It will boot to blue HP screen & most of time won't allow me to get into f10, f9 or esc screens.
Not sure if its worth paying $200 to fix this or go and buy a new one for around the same price.
any suggestions or help is appreciated
    thanks

    1) A retail OS should have worked.  That particular motherboard's NVidia Sata controller chip had a bad batch. You need to make sure the hard drive is recognized in the BIOS. If not, nothing can be done.
    2) Their brand of recovery disks was wrong, and was acknowledged. What about your $17 ??
If you had either a retail OS, or the recovery Disks that you made, these are acceptable.
The HP version when used with a new hard drive require conditioning "CyberLink Recovery Discs utility resolves an issue where Recovery Discs sent from HP do not work on a new hard drive".

  • Cheapest place to get new hard drive

When buying a new hard drive for my power book G4, where is the cheapest place to do it?
Also the cheapest way to have it installed?
The apple store would cost $500 to $600 they said.
I do NOT want to pay that.
    SS

I installed a new HD on an iBook once and it wasn't that bad. Lots of screws to keep track off, I recomend drawing a diagram on a large piece of paper and placing the screws on it so you remember, and also make sure you have ample time.

  • Had to get new hard drive and need to reinstall iTunes

My very new PC went beserk and I had to get a new hard drive. Everything off the old drive is irretrievable. I have my iTunes library backed up to an external drive (everything is also on my iPod). However, I don't want to have to "count" the new computer as one of the five machines on which I can copy my iTunes library, since it's not technically a "new" computer but just a replacement of my not-so-old one, which was barely 9 months old before it went kaput. Is there a way to reinstall iTunes and my library without getting dinged for yet another transfer of the library? Thanks.

Hi I can't figure out how to post a question of my own, so I'm asking it on this one because it is close to mine.
I just switched from a Sony Viao to a MBP, and tried to transfer my ITunes library from the Sony to my new MBP using a USB stick. I put all the music in my music library onto the stick, it said that it used 4.99 GB, and when I tried to put the music onto my MBP it only added 1.98 GB.
I thought that maybe the music it wasn't transferring was the music I purchased on my earlier laptop, but it transfered a few of my movies that I purchased off of ITunes. Please Help?

  • How do I get my music libraries realigned after getting new hard drive?

I got a new hard drive for my laptop and it is working fine. I had backed up my ITunes music from my old hard drive. I put it in the My Documents\Music\...
folder (where it originally was on my old hard drive), downloaded ITunes and then installed it. I would like to have ITunes go through and search all the foldersa and set itself up. How do I do this?
    Let me know.

Open iTunes. Go to Edit>Preferences>Advanced. Click on Change for change the iTunes location. Navigate to the location of the iTunes folder.

  • Where do I get a hard drive

Where do I get a hardn drive for my Mac Pro?

Amazon usually has pretty good prices but their shipping packaging leaves a lot to be desired.
Note, at the present time HDD prices are probably on the rise due to floods in Thailand.  So the longer you wait the higher the prices may become.  Here's some related articles on this:

  • Problem after getting new hard drive

Okay, don’t laugh but I think I am using Photoshop elements 1 and yes it works on windows 7. The systems information does say something about version 6.1 service pack 1. Anyhow it has worked great for no more than I do.
Last week I had to get a new hard drive. Supposedly everything was “ghosted” over from the old to the new.
Now my elements work well until I try to save the edited image. I then get “Could not save as "C:\...\SANYO4b.jpg" because of a program error”.
I uninstalled and reinstalled. Same thing. I searched Google for over an hour and the only thing I came up with to try was to change all my scratch disks to C.
    Still no luck. Any ideas?

“If you right click on the Photoshop elements 1 shortcut and choose Run as Administrator, does the saving work?”  YES!
    Back to this “Permissions” Issue.
when I right click on c drive and go to
    properties-security i get
group or user names (and this info about them)
    authenticated Users- nothing checked
    system- full control
    Administrators (myname-PCAdministrators)- full control
User (my name-PC\Users) only has checked
    read and execute
    list folder contents
    read
The others (full control, Modify, write and special permissions) are NOT CHECKED.
Thinking this might be the problem, when I started to change the “User (my name-PC\Users)”  to full control I got the warning that “changing the root directory of the startup disk can result in unexpected access...etc.”
Could this be the problem and if so should I let those warnings about dire consequences stop me?

  • Where can I get more hard drive sleds?

Hi, I currently swap four internal hard drives on a regular basis for backups. I have one of the supplied sleds that comes with the MacPro screwed to each which leaves me with non spare.
I'd like to get a couple more hard drives so I have in six in total that I'll be swapping around regularly. Rather than repeatedly unscrewing and screwing them onto a different drive I'd like to buy a couple extra sleds so each drive allways has one screwed to it and making swapping drives straigh forward.
Where can I get them at a reasonable price? (I'm in the UK.)
    Thanks,
    Dave.

  • Anyone know where I could get the hard drive replaced in a g3 iBook for a reasonable price? Can ship to whoever. Could also supply hard drive. Thanks!

Boy,this is confusing. I need to know where I can get someone to replace hd in a g3 iBook? Thanks

You could contact a specialist such as they are equipped to handle portable Mac computers and have adequate knowledge, skill, ability and parts usually on hand for most older and newer Macs; including out of warranty.
Been awhile since my portables had an issue, I found good reports on a company in North Carolina and contacted them by email and also by toll-free phone call; then I mailed an ailing iBook G3 there via USPS. The NC company I chose did a good job on the repair and later when I upgraded to a later model, that iBook was still in fine shape and the next owner had a great first Apple experience with it. I was sure to include all software discs and hardware parts, and the box and book with it, too.
While I found the local companies here at the time would only send my computer away to some distant out of state repairer (and not to Apple, as it was out of warranty, etc) then add a 100% premium markup over cost) I read comments online and decided on one company that way, perhaps the most distant from here, in small town AK.
You could check out 'wegenermedia dot com' and contact them by phone, to inquire how to best proceed; they have nearly every part in stock for most portable Macs, and qualified service personnel on staff... While there are a few others, I found from this company I was dealing with the owners and technicians directly.
    Anyway, hopefully this helps somewhat.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • I have tried and tried to repair my Powerbook G4 but I keep getting the error message that the hard drive can not be repaired Can I get a new hard drive, how much, where? Thanks!

Did you try zeroing the Drve before installing?
      1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
       2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
       3. Click the Erase tab.
       4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
       5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
       6. Highlight the drive, select Partition Tab, then Format type... MacOS Extended Journalled, select the Security Options button, choose Zero Out Data, Erase... after completion hopefully you'll be able to install.

  • Bought OSX Lion on Family pack have purchased new hard drive where can I get OSX lion now

Had a family Pack under Aplle where we shared all updates on OS X one computer has installed new hard drive but no copy available now for OSX lion How do we solve this problem?

Not sure what you purchased as a "family pack", but Lion does not have that option available. However, if you purchase it from the app store, then the license authorizes you to download it as often as needed on any computer YOU own and control. Since it is tied to your Apple ID (the ID used to purchase it), no one else can download it. Even if you gave other family members your Apple ID to use, it would be violating the licensing requirements and be considered software piracy.
If you installed a new hard drive on your computer or another computer you own, it should be available. Since this is a new blank hard drive, you may need to reinstall the original system (Snow Leopard?) and then go back to the app store as you need to have SL installed to download Lion. If you made a bootable clone of the old drive, you could simply clone that back.

  • How/where can I get an operating system disk for 2007mid iMac that I installed new hard drive on

I installed a new hard drive in my iMac 2007mid .Adventurous..
I am told I need the operating system now.   I am behind a few upgrades due to needing the new hard drive..
    suggestions please?

You can install from any full/retail installer DVD. If you have no discs, then you can purchase replacement discs from Apple:
Apple Store Customer Service at 1-800-676-2775 or visit online Help for more information.
To contact product and tech support: Contacting Apple for support and service - this includes
    international calling numbers..
You can also purchase a retail Snow Leopard DVD:
You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store.

  • Installed new hard drive now I can't get OS to install from recovery disks.

I have a HP Pavilion g4. I had to install a new hard drive into my laptop. I ordered the system recovery disks from HP directly. Windows 8 is the OS. I was on the first disk when a box popped up. The top of the box says Reducer. Then theres a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark and next to that it says Copy File Fails. Then under that it says From: E:\PRELOAD\BASE2.SWM<br><br>                              TO: C:\RM\Image\BASE2.SWM<br><br> <br><br>                                 Press OK to retry.<br><br> <br><br>I pressed ok to retry but nothing happens.<br><br>On the screen behind it its blue with a black Recovery Manager box. It says Factory image recovery preparations and theres 3 steps under it. The 1st one is checked and it says Reformatting the Windows partition of the hard drive. The 2nd line also has a checked box and it says Copying files required to restore the hard drive. The 3rd line has the box NOT checked and it says Restoring files to hard drive. Then the progress is stopped at 20%. It went all the way to 100% during the 1st line where its reformatting. Then even though the 2nd line is checked thats where it stopped at the 20%. <br><br> <br><br>Sorry so long but im trying to be as thorough as possible. I havent found any answers and Ive called HP already with no solution. I hope someone can help!! <br>

    Hello @noworries8282 ,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand you're unable to recovery Windows after replacing the HDD in your g4 notebook. Don't worry about writing a long post. It's better to have too much than not enough.
Can you please tell me the size, type, and manufacturer of the HDD you've installed in the notebook? If the drive you installed is smaller than the original drive the recovery can fail as it's built to format and partition the drive for the recovery and operating system partitions at a certain size. Many user's aren't aware of this and experience failures when attempting to recover to new drives, especially when trying to install SSDs.
If you haven't attempted the recovery a second time from scratch please try that when you get a chance.
    Hopefully this helps!
Please click the "Kudos, Thumbs Up" at the bottom of this post if you want to say "Thanks" for helping!
Please click "Accept as Solution" if you feel my post solved your issue, it will help others find the solution.
