Where do I get OS 9 classic???

This may sound a bit stupid or even helpless, but I've been searching all over the applesite to find a place to download OS 9 classic with no luck so far. Please, oh please help me, as I'm longing to play Diablo on my ibook!!

Hi, rubendk -
Welcome to Apple's Discussions.
There is no place from which OS 9 (Classic) can be downloaded. The only downloads available are for upgrades, all of which require a specified version of OS 9 to already be installed on the machine.
More to the point, your iBook G4 is not OS 9 bootable - that means you can not make use of any stand-alone OS 9 Install CD, retail or otherwise; nor would you be able to make use of any of the OS 9 downloads. The installers for all of those will run only when the machine is booted to OS 9.
However, your original disks, the ones that came with your iBook G4, have the ability to install Classic. One or more of these Apple Kbase articles should help you do that -
Article #106294 - Mac OS X: How to reinstall Mac OS 9
Article #60847 - How to Perform a Multiple Disc Restoration
Article #107383 - Mac OS X 10.2, 10.3: How to perform Mac OS 9 clean installation with Restore CDs
Article #42929 - Using Restore Discs with Mac OS X 10.2 or later
Article #151871 - Mac OS X 10.3: Installing Classic
Note that it is only the original disks that came with the machine that can install Classic; a subsequent purchase of a later version of OSX does not have the ability to do that.
Diablo II may not run well, if at all, in Classic. It is one of the many programs that requires direct access to the hardware on the machine, and those do not fare well in Classic (because Classic itself does not have that access).
You might take a look at using the OSX patch that Blizzard has released for Diablo II. You will probably need both the Native OSX Installer and the latest patch for OSX for Diablo II v. 1.11b. Both of those can be downloaded from this Blizzard support webpage -

  • Where can I get an OS-X 10.4 full install (black) DVD?

I've recently been given an old G4 17" iMac with 10.2.8 on it. I would like to upgrade this but only to 10.4 since I need a machine which runs "Classic". Our original Mini cam with 10.4 but I cannot find the install DVD Looking at eBay they seem to be going for upwards of £70!! Can anyone suggest where I could get a copy for a lot less! or even a loan of one? Do such things as local Mac user groups exist?
    Thanks.

Tiger install DVDs are in short supply. Tiger is no longer available at the Apple Store *but may be available for $129 by calling Apple Phone Sales @ 1-800-MY-APPLE (1-800-692-7753)*. For other sources, do a Google search for MA453Z/A (10.4.6), MA190Z/A (10.4.3) and M9639Z/A (10.4) . Also look on eBay. Be sure & buy a retail version (black with silver X) and not a model specific version (gray) (See Can I use another Mac's system restore disc on my Mac? ). Expect to pay (possibly a lot) more than the Apple list price of $129.
Also check these web stores: http://www.lacomputercompany.com/cgi-bin/rpcart/index.cgi?command=dispitem&type= sku&sku=19521 http://www.allmac.com/shop/index.php?cPath=5_10003
After you install the base 10.4.x, update to the final Tiger version 10.4.11. Here's the link for the 10.4.11 combo update http://support.apple.com/kb/TA24901?viewlocale=en_US

When you upgrade the OS, do it via Archive & Install. See About the Archive and Install feature http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1710
Be sure to select Preserve Users & Settings. Also, repair permissions before and after the install.

    Where do I get Rosetta?

    Version:1.0 StartHTML:0000000184 EndHTML:0000004989 StartFragment:0000002572 EndFragment:0000004953 SourceURL:file://localhost/Users/pmacnak/Desktop/Document%202%20Mac%20Pro.doc
The Mac Pro was purchased on eBay as NIB (new in box) with OS 10.6.8 software installed.  Runs beautifully!  I confirmed through Apple support the computer was manufactured in March, 2011 but  no product registration was ever received by Apple, so an initial purchase date cannot be identifed.
Using the supplied install DVD, I have several times tried to install Rosetta, to no avail.  When trying to run a PPC app (MacEnvelope), I do not get a dialogue box requesting whether I want to install Rosetta, or just automatically installing Rosetta.  Instead I get the following dialogue box
"You can't open the application MacEnvelope because the Classic environment is no longer supported"
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

i am trying to update my ibook 10.4.11so i tryed leopard but it said i needed  10.5 anyone know where i can get this from or anyother ideas please help

What is your need to upgrade to Leopard? So you can sync to iPhone, iPad, etc?

Leopard is no longer available at the Apple Store but may be available by calling Apple Phone Sales @ 1-800-MY-APPLE (1-800-692-7753).
If you can't obtain a retail install DVD from Apple, look on eBay or Google the installer part numbers to possibly find at an on-line store. Here's what to look for:
    MB427Z/A  Leopard 10.5.1 install DVD
    MB576Z/A  Leopard 10.5.4 install DVD
MB021Z/A  Leopard 10.5.6 install DVD (single user)

After you install the base 10.5, download & install the 10.5.8 combo update at http://support.apple.com/downloads/Mac_OS_X_10_5_8_Combo_Update
The DVD should look like this
Caution - Leopard does not support classic mode. So, if you currently open OS 9 apps in classic mode, you won't be able to do this if you upgrade to Leopard.

  • Where can i get a copy of MAC OS X 10.3

where can i get a copy of MAC OS X 10.3 I am refurbishing my Power PC Imac and have misplaced my old disc's..Thanks

eBay.  You should get a "retail" copy (which came on three CDs not one DVD), black with a big silver X.  Don't get a copy that came with a particular Mac model (grey color), unless it happens to be the disc that came with your particular Mac model.
You may want to consider getting Tiger (10.4) instead, if your Mac supports it.  Tiger provides better software compatibility with more recent applications, compared to Panther.
If your Mac is a G4 or G5, 867 Mhz or faster, with at least 512mb of RAM, Leopard (10.5) is also supported.
NOTE:  Leopard does not have "Classic" mode for running Mac OS 9 apps.  Tiger (and earlier) does.

  • I have a broken touchscreen on my P845t-S4310. Where can I get parts?

The online source I found was the display. It didn't include the touchscreen part. Where can I get the part?

    1. Connect an external monitor. If everything else is working fine on the MacBook, you'll have full access to your computer. Or
    2. If the MacBook has a FireWire port, use Target Disk Mode (http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT1661) to mount the HDD and then copy the files to the second Mac. Or
    3. Remove the HDD, put it in a $20 USB caddy, and connect it to another Mac for file-retrieval.
By the way, this forum is devoted to vintage Classic operating systems that Apple retired over a decade ago. More people will see your posts if you put them in a forum devoted to your particular level of OS X (Leopard or above for a 2008 MacBook).

  • Where do I get "Picture Ring" control?

Where do I get the "Picture Ring" control?
I've seen/downloaded numerous examples, and I can make it run without problems; but, my Context Help just shows "Ring - No description available."
I use LV 8.5, and the help on Picture Ring HERE shows that it is part of 8.1. Was it removed?
    Edit:
Can I remove this post? I just found it. I have to be on the Front Panel, and I have to be searching the Classic section. I'm ok with deleting this post now, so others aren't bothered with it. Can that be done?

i've paid for my icloud storage but now need a vat receipt, where can i get one?

Usually Apple sends an invoice to your mail 1-2 days after your purchase.
You may even search the invoice yourself, but I'm not sure if you will find it before 1-2 days.

This is my first mac and the **** hard drive crashed in only 2+ years and of course the waranty is expired.  Can I replace the hard drive with any 3.5" replacement or do I need something special.  And if I do where can I get it?  I didn't see anything specifically for an intel imac at apple store.  I don't want to pay apple to install it, already spent enough money on this disappointing purchase.

any 3.5" Sata drive will do.  I recommend http://www.macsales.com/, or http://www.newegg.com/

  • PI 7.11 - Where can I get the NEW java API's

    Hi,
We use PI 7.0 in productive environment, but we plan a release update to PI 7.11. We have several Java Mappings for PI 7.0 with Java 1.4. So we have to upgrade this also to Java 1.5.
We are using following SAP Java libs:
    - aii_map_api.jar
    - aii_mt_rt.jar
    - guidgenerator.jar
    - sapxmltoolkit.jar
Where can we get the equivalent libraries of the PI 7.11 system. Are there new API's? Is there a documentation where to get this?
    Thx in advance

  • Microsoft - Worst Customer Support ever! Where can I get a decent Microsoft customer support for Windows in the UK?

I have just tried to created the ISO of the operating system I am using for last 5 years, Windows 7 Ultimate.  I remembered that on Microsoft website are quick links dedicated exactly for that purpose. However, when page loaded I've seen this:
The Page or File You Requested Could Not Be Provided
The resource you are looking for has been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable.
HTTP Error 404 - File or directory not found.
If you purchased your Microsoft Windows software from another source, but have the software key provided by Microsoft, you can download the Windows operating
    system from the following website:
    Windows Downloads
When I have clicked on the download link it took me to the webpage which seemed everything going for it.  3-step guide, including  the product code and language. Brilliant! I thought, until after filling all the details I have clicked on 'Next-Verify
Product Key' than I faced a message:
Validating your product key. This may take several minutes. Do not refresh the page or select back, doing so will cancel
    the request.
When finished, a message pop up:  that the language provided is not compatible with the product key - try different language. Interesting, I am using this product last five years but is not compatible with English? I must have been a fairy then
to be able to make it work for all these years. Then it got better.
I have tried it again with a different message in the end:
    System Error
We encountered a problem with the product key you provided.  Please visit the  Microsoft Support Contact Us page
for assistance.  Refer to Message Code 715-123130.
So I have contacted Microsoft.  Contacting Microsoft is an experience itself and half.
Being Microsoft certified, I used the link provided for IT Pros. I click the link provided and the page started loading..... and still loading now....
So I have decided to call the customer support as you would normally do with any other organisation. To actually get to the phone number, illogically placed, took me a few loops around MS website. Once called, I got to speak to very efficient lady on reception
who kindly switched me to the Technical Support. That's going well, I thought.
Once the connection has been made, I felt that MS technical support is based in submarine 3 miles under water in Japanese sea. All I could hear was the very familiar sound of water of modern Voice over IP connection dated back in 2003 and a male voice (but
by the sound of it it might have been a whale) asking me my name. Unsurprisingly, the connection was interrupted several times when I tried to describe my issue I am having, and eventually I was disconnected.
Still not put off, I made another attempt to contact MS customer service. This time I have been talking to a woman, seemed a little bit closer, maybe Bristol waters? Still in the submarine but not so deep. Also here I was asked my name AND surname; then
I have described my intentions and the difficulty I am having in succeeding it. The woman on the phone didn't get at all what I was saying. I had to literally spat out word by word what the problem is. (Luckily, I have many years of experience supporting IT
users over 60 years of age so it didn't take so long to explain it to her.) My thought just was, oh my God, how can she help if she didn't even understand the issue. Then the phone went completely dead for 10 mins. When it came back to life, I could hear clear
sound of fishing boat passing by until a voice, I assume the same woman, apologised for the delay. And now - the best is coming:
    1) I was informed that the website is being tested, under construction and that doesn't work properly.
Comment: How can Microsoft, one of
leading organisation in  technology, do testing of website 'live'? Quite clearly, that is BS.
    2) I was advised to obtain the ISO image from 3rd Party website!!!! On question if she can give me the link to any 3rd party website the answer was NO.
Comment: Seriously, so here we are in 21st Century, dealing with almost the GOD in IT and the recommended solution is - to obtain help for the God's product from UNKNOWN 3rd Party. Brilliant! If this is the case, where Microsoft is exactly heading to???
    3) She cannot tell me when the issue of non-working website will be sorted and I should go and buy the copy of Windows; than I will be able to do the ISO.
Comment: Well, that's what I call a professional advise from Microsoft representative. The fact that I do have the physical copy was totally ignored, the fact that I have been running the system for several years have been totally ignored the whole point
of this exercise (to cut down the time making ISO using Microsoft website) was totally ignored.
When I started asking questions to clarify what has been said I have been continuously interrupted.
To my question whether MS customer service representative have been trained to interrupt customers I have been told that I am talking over her. I asked her name, which she told me but I didn't catch and therefore I have asked if she could spell it. On that
    point she hung up.
Well done Microsoft! And now I want to know just one reason why I should buy your products when the support, in case of problems, is not existent.
Does anyone know where I can get a decent customer service that can resolve my issue better than smudge it ?
    Thank you.

Just having the same issue there, which is real not fun, I have not tried to contact them, but looking at  your experience I am not sure if I should.
My key comes from the back of a laptop o so I guess that would be a W7
OEM, and that could explain why you can't download a ISO from their website, would that also your case ?
Also could it be because we are attempting to get the ISO after the product became EOL ?

Maybe I will give a go with the customer care people and maybe I will get a right answer ;)
    Will keep you posted

We noticed exactly the same issue after applying some SharePoint updates (SP1 + October 2011 CU).  The problem turned out to be that there was an older version (V14.0.4762.1000) of Microsoft.SharePoint.ApplicationPages.dll in the GAC.
This version was being loaded instead of the latest version of the DLL (14.0.6112.5000).
Loading the latest version of Microsoft.SharePoint.ApplicationPages.dll fixed the problem with the List/Library settings page.
I check our Microsoft.SharePoint.ApplicationPages.dll and found that we have version 14.0.6024.1000.
I would like to try replacing it with the latest version to see if that could fix the problem going into library settings.
Does someone know where I can get the latest Microsoft.SharePoint.ApplicationPages.dll for SharePoint 2010?
    David

You would need to extract it from an update. Pre-SP2 SharePoint 2010 is no longer supported, I'd recommend upgrading to SP2 which should take care of any versioning issues.
