Where do I hook up the cord?

I just got my ipod nano and the mini manual said that I had to plug the cable directly into the computer and not to the USB in the back. I do not have an outlet on the side for a cable like that.
What kind of adaptor do I need so that I can charge the battery? As well, what is a fire wire and a hi speed USB Host controller. Can I get the latter at an apple store?

It's fine to connect it to the back of the computer (the USB end nto the computer, the other end into the iPod). Not sure where it said to not plug it into the back of your computer as that is fine (assuming you have USB ports there)).

I recently purchased a shutter release remote for my IPAD camera but the cord is only three feet long. I purchased a 3 banded AV extension but it doesn't work. Can anyone tell me what the correct extension cable is and where I can find one? Thanks.

I've never seen this issue, and I handle many iPads, of all versions. WiFi issues are generally local to the WiFi router - they are not all of the same quality, range, immunity to interference, etc. You have distance, building construction, and the biggie - interference.
At home, I use Apple routers, and have no issues with any of my WiFi enabled devices, computers, mobile devices, etc - even the lowly PeeCees. I have locations where I have Juniper Networks, as well as Aruba, and a few Netgears - all of them work as they should.
The cheaper routers, Linksys, D-Link, Seimens home units, and many other no name devices have caused issues of various kinds, and even connectivity.
I have no idea what Starbucks uses, but I always have a good connection, and I go there nearly every morning and get some work done, as well as play.
You could try changing channels, 2.4 to 5 Gigs, changing locations of the router. I have had to do all of these at one time or another over the many years that I have been a Network Engineer.

Where to get an extra power cord for Macbook Pro

I purchased an additional 85w Mag Safe power adapter for my Macbook Pro assuming it would come with both the adapter and the extension cord. However, I only received the adapter with the cable that attaches to the computer. After researching this item it seems that the extension cord is not available, either with or separate from the adapter. This cord was included with the adapter in the new computer box. Does anyone know how/where I can obtain this extension cord to use with my second adapter?

I've had my MBPro for almost four months (love it. A few days ago, I thought I noticed the green light dimmer than usual. It continued to dim for 36-48 hours until it finally disappeared. (I wonder ... Was it an Apple Store that made the original "you have to pay" decision? Maybe someone just didn't understand all the terms of the warranty?)

I can't hook into the Internet

Why can't I hook into the Internet with my iPad mini? I selected it, put in the password, but it says "connection not available." my other devices are hooked into that Internet.

Some things to try first:
1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
5. Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
    •    Launch Settings app
    •    Tap on Wi-Fi
    •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
    •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.
Some Wi-Fi losses may stem from a problematic interaction between Wi-Fi and cellular data connections. Numerous users have found that turning off Cellular Data in Settings gets their Wi-Fi working again.
You may have many apps open which can possibly cause the slowdown and possibly the loss of wifi. In iOS 4-6 double tap your Home button & at the bottom of the screen you will see the icons of all open apps. Close those you are not using by pressing on an icon until all icons wiggle - then tap the minus sign. For iOS 7 users, there’s an easy way to see which apps are open in order to close them. By double-tapping the home button on your iPhone or iPad, the new multitasking feature in iOS 7 shows full page previews of all your open apps. Simply scroll horizontally to see all your apps, and close the apps with a simple flick towards the top of the screen.

Syncing through the cord erased calender on iPhone

Hello! I am trying to fix my boss' problem because he thinks I am a computer techie (since I know more than he and I own an iMac at home, this may be true for him). Anyway, I have to go fix his problem today and I am looking for advice about what to do.
From what I understand at this point, he has MobileMe that has been syncing his iPhone, iMac and MacBook. He recently started hooking the phone up through a cord to the computer (I assume the iMac) and tried syncing that way. As soon as it did, all his calender entries on the iPhone were deleted and some apps he downloaded disappeared as well. His published business calender has not disappeared, but actually seems to have merged with his personal calender so we can see other appointments. Wierd.
I will, of course, first try to manually sync through MobileMe to re-establish the calender. However, if this does not work OR it erases again when he syncs with the cord, I need to know what to try next. Any assistance would be awesome! I so rely on his published calender to know when I will work with him, and if it keep deleting, he won't use it! (Worst case scenario for me.)

You needed to have at least one unique entry on the computer before you synced. Then you would have gotten the option to merge.
Assuming you have been syncing you iphone regularly, you could try restoring from the last back up that itunes made. This may restore your info.

Where are my Apps from the cloud on iMac?

My son just got an iPod and I wanted to try to download my apps that are in the cloud to my IMac so the he can put them on his iPod. BUT, when I hook up my phone like to sync and select APPs, I only see the Apps currently on my phone. I can not see all the APPs in the cloud?

Where are you looking ? The Apps part of your Mac's iTunes library will only show the apps that you have on your Mac - unlike the Music, Movies and TV Shows part of your library the 'show iTunes in the Cloud purchases' tickbox on the Store tab in iTunes > Preferences (command-comma) doesn't appear to work for apps.
You can redownload apps (if they are still in your country's store) on your Mac's iTunes via the Purchased link under Quicklinks on the right-hand side of the iTunes store homepage
Or you can copy the apps that you have on your phone back from it via File > Devices > Transfer Purchases (that only copies the apps, not their content).

To troubleshoot this issue where your MacBook Air will not power on, I'd like you to please reset the SMC as directed below.
Resetting the SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own
Note: Portable computers that have a battery you should not remove on your own include MacBook Pro (Early 2009) and later, all models of MacBook Air, and MacBook (Late 2009).
Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Note: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.

Where do I read in the documentation the list of the system properties?

Yep. Sounds stupid. But it's true. I read in all these forums where and how to set the truststore and so on but it would be beautiful to understand it my own.
1. First I read setting the -Djavax.net.ssl.trustStore in the VM arguments.
2. Then I find out the the -D is just for setting something like a static property.
3. Next I want to read about the system properties. Who, what and where the Java tries to get this system property. I do not find it.
What I find is great help in these forums and solving this kind of problems seems easy... I googled and the only place I found info about this is in a boulder.ibm.com site:

I have to admit that it is documented. Yes. But I didn't expect to find that in middle of a guide. But more in a reference or in a specification document. It's inside the "Customization" and in a table, yes... But it's a guide!!
I like Java but something to worry about is the "too many - too less" documentation. Documentation is not clear enough and all the hundreds of options you have can make the programming with Java no good. It would sound like a good thing have a lot of choices and hundreds of places to look info for but I am a bit disappointed with that. It's not clear enough to find the right info.

Okay, Let's assume that Apple is indeed THAT foolish.......How does one get the photos from the phone to the PC and still use them?

The photos are still on your phone, and if enabled in your Photo Stream. They are not automatically transferred to your computer when syncing.

I have an Action that places guides at 50% (50pc) vertically and horizontally to give me the exact center of an image file, or you place them manually with View > New Guide.
After doing that I would place the circular select from that center point using Shift and Alt (Opt) and get it more or less where I wanted it. Then change the selection into a work path.
You can use Free Transform to reshape and position that work path by selecting it in the Paths panel.
Then place your text, and if you still need to fine tune, use Free Transform again, but on the Type layer.
You could also use Free Transform to reshape the BG graphic to make it round.

My MacBookPro 10.7.5 had been streaming tv thru the mini port/HDMI cable. Suddenly it stopped working. My tv screen is now black. I have tried restarting the computer with the cord connected. The computer is otherwise working.

I had been streaming tv with my MacBookPro 10.7.5 for several years using a cord from the mini port to the HDMI plug on the TV. Suddenly it stopped working. My computer otherwise works fine but there is my computer screen image is no longer being transmitted to the tv. The tv is black. I have it on the correct input.
