Where do I put jpgs to show up in desktop choices

I have some Lion desktops I downloaded from the internet. Where do I store them.

You can put them most anywhere you want. I placed a folder for such items in the Pictures folder in my home folder, then place copies of things I might want to display on the Desktop in that folder. If it's more convenient, you can just place such a folder on the Desktop, or at the root level of the hard drive (just drop it into the icon of the hard drive).
Once that folder is created you can use the "+" button under the left pane in Desktop & Screen Saver prefs pane in System Preferences to add that folder to the list. Once added, you can just toggle it open and click on the picture in it that you want to use.

Where do I put my slide show photos

I am working on a slideshow. I do NOT want the photos to be contained in my MobileMe gallery. My host is 1and1. My question is this: do I have to put the folder containing the slideshow photos on 1and1's server, or can I use flickr, etc.
Currently, when I use the following snippet (with MobileMe):

I do not get a slideshow. Rather, I get a 640x480 window showing the gallery page.

Its better to have your photos and slideshow assets, if any, uploaded to the root folder on your server.
Using an iFrame code like you are doing will only bring up the photos and the URL to any one will be the same when the files are on the 1 and 1 server....

There are lots of different ways to create slideshows and you would need to let us know what type you wanted....

You might have one of the 'micro' cards that needs a standard SD adapter - I have a 4GB of one of those in my phone, but it came with an adapter. My camera SD cards are standard size and they fit right into the card reader and show up on my desktop.
Look for an adapter on Amazon.

Where should a put FCP?

I have been reading FCP for dummies, watching tutorials and reading the directions before installing the program. Now that I am about to install I remembered reading or hearing to install it in a certain place.
Should I install the application on my main dirve where the OS and Applications folder is or on a seperate brand new internal drive where I intend to put my video files as I load them from DV tape?
I was thinking it best to do the later but I want some input. If I should put FCP Studio on the newer seperate drive where do I put it? Do I make a new "applications folder" on this drive or just dump it on there anywhere?

Yes, I was taught the same thing about project files. Then I worked for/with some of the folks associated with this group...

They all know what they are doing in a big way, and they were organizing the disks they were traveling from system to system, location to location, in the way I described above. I've working this way for several months without issue. That doesn't mean I won't in the future, though!
OK, captured material.
My client showed up with a UVW-1400 deck, when I was told it would be a DVW-A500. I own a AJA IO with 422 control. No such thing on a 1400. There are conversion options that might have worked, but I was on the side of a mountain in the Adirondacks.
No deck control equals no time code equals you lose your media, you start over.
Happily, I do travel extra firewire drives with me. I backed up my capture scratch every evening, in addition to the project, etc. I incremented the project name each day so I could avoid duplication - in my capture scratch folder I had incrimented folders repressenting my captures from day 1, day 2, etc.
I'm going to look into alternative ways of controling 25-pin RS-223C, from my 9-pin controller on IO. I'm not knowledgeable about this.

The project I refered to was a documentary about my son's kindergarten, that some how went from, vhs, imovie, and an imac to eight days of shooting with an xl-1, buying a media drive and learning FCP 1.2.
It was a difficult day when I learned about the not so nice relationship between Canon DV and FCP.
It was a difficult day when the project would not open.
It was a difficult day when the system drive on the imac started to make the funny little sounds just before it ground to a halt.
No wonder I stepped away until version 4.5!

Probably because you neighbor has no security on his network. Does his network show a lock like

When saving files from the internet, why doesn't Firefox 'know' to put .jpg files in "Photos" and pdf files in "Documents"? IE always saved photos in the "Photos" file and documents in the "Documents" file. Firefox makes me choose every time. Very annoying.

How about if Firefox is programmed like IE in this ONE thing...
When saving files from internet sources, if the file ends in a typical photo extension such as .jpg, .bmp, .tif etc. it defaults to save it in your PHOTOS folder.
When saving anything like a .doc, .pdf etc. it defaults to save it to your DOCUMENTS.
You could still change it to 'desktop' if that if really where you want all your photos and documents... or some other folder that you decide, but DEFAULTS to the LOGICAL folder.
I have carpal tunnel SO bad that even typing this suggestion is painful and having to make the extra click along with moving the mouse EVERY time I want to save something is painful.
ALSO, I shouldn't need a bunch of ADDONS to accomplish this. I tried downloading one and it did nothing. The problem still exists.

i thought it would be put in the pictures folder but at least in my case it is not there! the folder is empty.
I can import pictures and they show in iphoto and frontrow but I would simply like to know where on my harddisk they end up.

No! Don't make anew library it will overwrite your old one.
It's there somewhere, it's just that it's visibility status has changed (why??)
Anyway try the following:
go to http://www.cocoatech.com and download Pathfinder. This is an alternative to the Finder - and it has extra features, among them a View-> Show Invisible Items command. This might help us find it.
Pathfinder is shareware, but you can use it for a trial period without paying.

When I receive appointments by email and accept them they go into the enourage "on my mac" ical calendar which is not synced with mobileme. How do I change where appointments are put ?

I use the mobileme sync services so the ical calendars that are synced are those in the "[email protected]" group.

Actually you can't drag the appointment to ano calendar - its says "You can’t make changes to this invitation., Only the organiser can change this event"
Also if you double click on the received appointment and open the window the only calendars shown that you can select are the 'on my mac" ones, and not the sync'd ones.
Any ideas welcome !!

• Macintosh HD > Users > Shared
• Macintosh HD > Applications (if you're the Admin user).
All users (unless restricted by Parental Controls) have access to those folders.

Do you mean Discussions search? If so, have you reviewed the Search Tips? They're also available from the search page, where one can click "Tips" under the Search Terms field.

The start chapter button is a play the whole movie button regardless of how many other markers you have.
Once a DVD starts playing it continues to the end.
Chapters marker simply gives the viewer a place to start playback whether it be the start, middle or near the end.

Use the ATV sync settings in iTunes to set the shows you want to sync, then they will remain on the ATV hard disk until you remove them from your iTunes library. She will be able to watch the synced content even if your laptop is out of the house.

My ipad was in recovery mode and it went back to the home screen and it found my info on itunes to the point where i can put music on it but it still says connect to itunes

Double check your iPod's sync settings from under it's TV Shows tab in iTunes. Make sure it is not set up to sync only unwatched episodes.
