Where do I save .doc file on an ipad

I understand that by using pages app that I can open and modify a microsoft word document. But how and where can I save the file as .doc file????

Hi
I have been using Pages Only on my iPad, but need to save files as .doc regularly... Whenever I want to make a .doc file I use the "Save As . . ." option and choose .doc in the format box.
The document itself is kept with my other Pages documents, which I believe may be what you originally asked.
As far as I can tell, on the iPad there is no way to "organize" them, like there is on the iMac or other desktop/laptop. As far as my understanding, the iPad was not intended to be a full laptop - but maybe that has changed as they have added more functionality to the iPad 2.
You can, as others mentioned, email the .doc files to anyone you choose from within Pages.
I hope this helps

  • Pages v4.0 (727) can't open or save .doc files

    Hello everyone,
for a while now I haven't been able to open or save .doc files with Pages. When trying to open a .doc file I get the following message:
"The document "example.doc” couldn’t be opened."
I have tried the following to solve the problem:
    1. run Software Update, which told me there were no updates available
    2. checked my applications folder to see if Pages was in the iWork '09 folder in order for SU to be able to detect updates (it was)
    3. reinstalled Pages from the iWork disc and run SU (which again couldn't detect any updates)
    4. deleted the com.apple.iWork.Pages.plist file from the Preferences folder in the user library on the Macintosh HD
I'd be very grateful if someone could point me towards a solution, I've spent an age on google looking for one and haven't found anything useful so far.
    Thanks in advance

Are you still on MacOs 10.6.1? You should update it to 10.6.8. Use the Combo update here if the Software Update check doesn't work (which it should) http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399
And here you can find the iWork 09 updates. Software Updates should find them!
    iWork 9.0.4
    iLife Support 9.0.4
    You need both.

  • Can you use Easynews to download movies etc to IMac and how and where do you save the files?

Can you useEasynews to download movies etc to IMac and how and where do you save the files?

From your Apple menu at the left end of the menubar, select "About this Mac." You get a window similar to this:
    1) The Mac OS version is just under the big "MAC OS X" line. Post what that says.
    2) We can start to figure out what iMac you have if you post what that the "Processor" line says.
We need to find out because Apple's poor labling choices for this forum, intended for iMacs made before 2006, causes people with newer and much more capable Macs to post here by mistake.
Without some info from you, it's much like your calling an auto mechanic and asking if you can use a certain part without telling him the make, model, or year of your car. Quess what his first question will be? Works the same here.

Where can i save PDF files in icloud?
Wo kann ich in der  icloud PDF Dateien speichern?

    I installed a PDF reader.
It allows attaching pdf files to my iPod and synching with iTunes.
But I don't use iCloud, still. I do all backups local to iTunes library.
However, it should work no matter where or what IF you have files attached to an app that allows files.
When I make changes to files attached to apps, they change and show under iTunes - tried renaming a file on the computer and changed on iPod.

  • Where does iPhoto save imported files????  how do you "save"?

ok this is driving me crazy:
I've imported photos and movie clips from my camera through usb through iPhoto.
Where does iPhoto save these files?
I've opened iMovie to find the movie clip and I can't find it anywhere...
also: after editing a photo in iMovie, how do you "save" it?

    Chris
You’ve a bit of a learning curve ahead of you as you obviously haven’t really understood iPhoto, what it is and how it works. You could do yourself a favour and have a look at the tutorials at http://www.apple.com/ilife/tutorials/#iphoto
    To specific cases:
When you press "done" it doesn't save it (find the photo in its original file and open it with Preview, you'll see it hasn't been saved).
Yes, but it has! You see iPhoto will always preserve your Original file. So when you make edits it carries out these on copy of the file. You can see this in the iPhoto Window. There is no way to make iPhoto edit the original file.
I have opted for iPhoto not to duplicate my photos and keep its own library (to me that doesn't make any sense, my photos are about 15GB, I wouldn't want them to turn into 30GB for no reason!),
    1. The best solution for that it to allow iPhoto to copy the files into the Library and then remove your own copies.
    2. When you go to iPhoto Menu -> Preferences -> Advanced and uncheck 'Copy Files to the iPhoto Library on Import', you are running what is called a Referenced Library. In a Referenced Library iPhoto will not copy the files on import, but rather simply reference them on your HD. To do this
it will create an alias in the Originals Folder that points to your file.
It will still create a thumbnail and,
if you modify the pics, a Modified version within the iPhoto Library Folder.
However, you need to be aware of a number of potential pitfalls using this system.
    1. Importing and deleting pics are more complex procedures
    2. You cannot move or rename the files on your system or iPhoto will lose track of them on systems prior to 10.5 and iPhoto 08. Even with the later versions issues can still arise if you move the referenced files to new volumes or between volumes.
    3. Most importantly, migrating to a new disk or computer can be much more complex.
Always allowing for personal preference, I've yet to see a good reason to run iPhoto in referenced mode unless you're using two photo organisers.
If disk space is an issue, you can run an entire iPhoto Library from an external disk:
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library as an entity from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.
If you're concerned about accessing the files, there are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:
    *For Users of 10.5 Only*
You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Apple-Click for selecting multiple pics.
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
    *For users of 10.4 and 10.5* ...
Many internet sites such as Flickr and SmugMug have plug-ins for accessing the iPhoto Library. If the site you want to use doesn’t then some, one or any of these will also work:
To upload to a site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. However, if you're using Gmail you can use iPhoto2GMail
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
*If you want to access the files with iPhoto not running*:
Create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser
    Other options include:
    1. *Drag and Drop*: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. *File -> Export*: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. *Show File*: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
so the problem still exists, why doesn't it save new photos in my pictures folder?
Because you told it not to. When you run a Referenced Library +you are responsible for File Management+. Remember that bit above where I said
    1. Importing and deleting pics are more complex procedures
You need to put the files where you want them, then import them to iPhoto. Iphoto has no control over any file outside the Library Package. So when it comes to deleting things you’ll need to remove the pics from iPhoto and then go and root them out from your folder structure by hand.
None of this is the case if you run a Managed Library.
or ask me where to save them?
Because that’s not what it does. Check out Image Capture for that.
I'm worried that if I now let it save all my new photos to its iPhoto library (which is basically a virtual library as I understand it)
What do you mean by a “virtual library”?
and in a year's time I change laptops I run the risk of loosing photos as I won't know which photos are were (now I can do a back up to an external drive simply by copying the folders I choose from the pictures folder.
If you run a Managed Library then backing up and migrating are both very simple. You simply back up the iPhoto Library or move it as the case may be. There are many, many back up utilities that will do incremental back ups if the Library: Time Machine, DejaVu Chronosync are several but there are a hundred more. Search on MacUpdate.
If you run a Referenced Library you must +back up the Originals and the iPhoto Library+ (to get your Albums, Modified Versions and so on). Migrating rto a new machine is a bear too, as you cannot allow the path to the files to alter. (See my pitfall no. 3 above.
Worst of all: a mixed Managed/Referenced Library: a recipe for data loss.
My strongest advice to you is to start over with iPhoto. Create a new Library: Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library' and import 100 pics into it and explore it for a week or two. Get to know the ins and outs a bit and se how it works. Then decide if it’s the right app for you. By all means post back if you need more info.
    Regards

I don't want to attempt an upgrade again, only to have to turn around and degrade so my activities can work. Furthermore, I'm not sure where to save the Firefox file in my system, since for some reason it doesn't take me right to where it should save.

    Hi
Just bought a CD for my Econs subject, has a lot of pdf files which I hope to load to my iPad.
    1. Where do I save these pdf files on my Mac?
    2. How do I syn such that these files can be found on my iPad so that I can read them?
Please help, details needed as I am not a techie yet
Thanks v much to anyone who can help

You first need to decide which app(s) that you are going to copy the PDF2 to on the iPad - unlike a 'normal' computer the iPad doesn't have a file system, and everything on it has to be associated with an app. Apps that support PDFs include free apps such as Apple's iBooks and Adobe Reader, and paid-for apps such as GoodReader.
For all apps it doesn't really matter where you initially store them on your Mac.
For iBooks you can add the PDFs to computer's iTunes library via File > Add To Library, and you can then sync them to the app by connecting the iPad to your computer and selecting it on the left-hand side of iTunes, and then using the Books tab on the right-hand side of iTunes to select and sync those PDFs.
For other apps it will depend upon what the app that you get supports e.g. via the file sharing section at the bottom of the device's apps tab when connected to iTunes, via wifi, email, dropbox etc.

  • I'm using yahoo email on firefox but cannot download or save doc file attachments

Emails that I have received on my yahoo account contain attachments, saved as word documents or powerpoint or pdf files. Today, when I tried to download these files, the daownloading software could not recognise the file format in any of the files (I tried with twenty different files), and therefore could not download or save the files. The pop up window simply states "Resolving...." and does not change at all.
Please assist me to download file attachments on emails that come through yahoo, when I use Firefox as my browser.

    Hi there,
Please take a look at this article ([[Managing file types]]). Let us know if it worked!

Open the PDF in Safari and then tap it and you should get a bar at the top of it with 'open in iBooks' as an option - tap that and it should be copied to the iBooks app.

Since I upgraded to iOS 5 I have not been able to save PDF fines on my iPad and iPhone . Yet that's want the case before the upgrade. Can some one tell me why...b,se I feel like the upgrade was a step backward than forward..

Thanks for this Griff but it's not the app that isn't responding.  I am in the facebook app (on both iPhone and iPad) and the app is working fine but if people post a video I can't look at the video on the iPhone or iPad.  i always used to be able to but now it keeps coming up with the message I mentioned above.  So I can no longer watch videos from facebook on either my iPad or iPhone.  Here is a screen shot of my phone of what is happening.  As you can see I have full wifi so there is nothing wrong with my internet connection. This is really annoying as I used to be able to watch videos on both phone and ipad out of facebook.  now I can't.  Hope you can help.  regards and thanks Vicki

  • Where is my save images file???

hi everyone i can't find the images saved file my ipad haven't.
Can i create some file because i can not save images from the web!!!

Have you tried closing the Photos app completely ? From the home screen (you can't close an app completely if it is open on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Photos app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar. Also do a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 seconds, after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.
Then try it again - you can either try saving a picture from a webpage by pressing and holding it and then selecting 'Save Image', or you could just do a screenshot by briefly pressing both the home and sleep buttons.
